Go To

The seventeenth episode of Buzz Lightyear of Star Command, not counting the pilot movie. Brain Pod 13 defects from Zurg, so Zurg calls on bounty hunter Shiv Katall to bring him back, dead or alive. Buzz goes after Shiv alone, much to the dismay of his teammates, who decide to intervene. But little do they know that Shiv is actually Buzz in disguise.

Tropes associated with this episode include:

  • Bittersweet Ending: The rangers are successful in rescuing the brain pod but the Shiv Katall identity is dead and the rangers have to find new ways to help future defectors.
  • Borrowed Catchphrase:
Mira: Give it up, Shiv. Or I'll blast you to infinity and beyond!
  • Couch Gag: In the CGI intro before the opening sequence, Buzz does the "Staying Alive" Dance Pose when he lands in front of the TV.
  • Curb-Stomp Battle: Shiv wipes the floor with the rangers. Of course, it helps that it's Buzz in disguise, and Buzz knows how to deal with them.
  • Defector from Decadence: Once in a while, Zurg's minions would defect from their Evil Emperor, leading Shiv (Buzz) to go in and smuggle them out.
  • Foreshadowing: Shiv's reluctance to destroy the rangers already tells the audience that he's actually Buzz.
  • Legacy Character: Before Buzz, Nebula used the Shiv Katall persona.
  • Mass "Oh, Crap!": The rangers and the patrons instantly go pale when Shiv arrives.
  • Nice Job Breaking It, Hero: Team Lightyear's (specifically Mira) insistence in investigating Shiv Katall leads to them inadvertently ruining an ongoing operation to help defectors from Zurg escape.
