The Great One says your planet will be purified before the next moon. You... are quite lucky.

During a visit to Yellowstone National Park, Ben accidentally unlocks a new alien form, a large armadillo-like species. He initially does not like the new form, as it seemingly has no abilities except rolling around and is clumsy when simply walking. Unfortunately, a giant alien tick lands in the park, followed by three disciples, and attaches itself to the ground, and begins mutating and draining the very planet itself! Now Ben must try to figure out how to destroy the giant tick and eventually discover the value of his new alien form.

Tropes

  • Bizarre Taste in Food: Even Gwen is disgusted by Max's tastes including live worms, immediately deciding to have Ben get her a burger as well.
  • The Cameo: In a quick montage, Ben uses his various aliens to try and stop The Great One such as Four Arms, Upgrade and Ripjaws but none work.
  • Contrived Coincidence: Ben discovers a new alien form that just happens to be the only one that can stop the Monster of the Week. Said form is from a species that was a previous victim of it.
  • Eldritch Abomination: An alien monster of unknown origin that resembles a gigantic tick. It eats planets by rooting into their core, mutating the landscape in the process, metamorphosing as it drains it dry.
  • Foreshadowing: After Ben turns into Cannonbolt, Max wonders just how many more aliens there are in the Omnitrix.
  • How Do I Shot Web?: Ben initially has no idea what Cannonbolt's ability is and stumbles around trying to figure it out.
  • Kill It Through Its Stomach: The tick's shell is impervious to everything Ben throws at it, but when Cannonbolt proves immune to its acid, he rolls into its... lungs? And rips it apart from the inside.
  • Lightning Bruiser: Cannonbolt's armor is impenetrable and when rolling, he can move at high speeds and has immense physical power.
  • No Ontological Inertia: After the tick is defeated, the world just sort of ripples back to normal from having been drained nearly dry. Nobody even questions this.
  • No-Sell: The Great One is impervious to every single one of Ben's old aliens.
  • Not So Above It All: Gwen initially looks down on Ben trying to use XLR8 to head out to the city for food instead of following along with Max's insistence that they can live off the land. Once Max shows them what he means by eating a live grubworm, she immediately tells Ben to get her a cheeseburger as well as she helps him fiddle with the Omnitrix.
  • Planet Eater: In the form of a big tick.
  • The Reveal: It turns out that the Omnitrix has more than just ten alien transformations.
  • Rolling Attack: This is Cannonbolt's only power, but as Ben soon discovers, it's all it needs to cause some serious damage.
  • Shout-Out: While trying to figure out what his new form can do, Ben tries making some hand gestures to release some sort of energy blast, including the Spider-Man web shot gesture.
  • Wham Episode: Ben unlocks a new alien, revealing that there are more than just 10 in the Omnitrix.
  • Wham Shot: After the green light of the Omnitrix fades after Ben tries to turn into XLR8, we see that he’s turned into a new alien we’ve never seen before.
  • What Kind of Lame Power Is Heart, Anyway?: Ben feels this way at first since all Cannonbolt can do is roll around and is clumsy on his feet. Subverted when he puts it to use later and he realizes how much ass it can really kick. It goes on to be one of his most used forms in the series.
