Tropes:

  • Abusive Parents: Mr. Leonhart would force Annie to train every day so she could be selected as a Warrior and he could earn a comfortable life as an honorary Marleyan, getting to the point of being physically abusive towards her. Only later, once Annie is about to leave on her mission, does he have an Heel Realization and understands that he indeed loves Annie as a daughter and begs her to return.
  • Amnesiac Hero: Falco doesn't remember what happened in the last few episodes and isn't aware of having turned into a Titan.
  • And I Must Scream: Annie reveals to Hitch that despite freezing herself for the last four years she was fully conscious inside her cocoon with only the sounds of Armin and Hitch talking to her breaking up the monotony of her days.
  • Blatant Lies: Mikasa asks Floch what happened to Hange and Levi. Floch replies that Zeke killed them both. Even assuming Levi might have died from his injuries, Hange escaped and is very much alive.
  • Boom, Headshot!:
    • Floch kills one of the volunteer soldiers in this fashion.
    • It's implied Mr. Leonhart was killed like this by a Liberio gatekeeper, but this isn't confirmed on screen.
  • The Bus Came Back: At the end of the episode, Hange returns, bringing an injured Levi along with her.
  • Chocolate Baby: Annie reveals to Hitch that she is this. She was abandoned by her mother, a Marleyan woman, after cheating on her husband with an Eldian man and getting pregnant with Annie.
  • Defiant to the End: Discussed. After Floch kills one of the volunteer soldiers, he reflects on how it would be better for the remaining soldiers if they just submitted and accepted that their homelands are going to be destroyed, instead of trying to resist and get killed because of their pride.
  • Given Name Reveal: In-universe example. When Gabi and Kaya bid each other farewell, Gabi reveals to Kaya that her real name is Gabi and not Mia. Kaya reacts by saying that Gabi is a weird name.
  • History Repeats: Defied by Armin who goes out to stop Connie from feeding Falco to his mother in order to avoid another war with Reiner and Pieck, reasoning that even if Eren's plan succeeds it won't matter if the Eldians on Paradis kill themselves with another Nine Titans war.
  • Male Gaze: We're treated to some rare fanservice with a closeup on Annie's crotch after Hitch flips her over.
  • Mrs. Exposition: Annie explains her backstory to Hitch, letting the audience know it too as a result.
  • Only in It for the Money: Mr. Leonhart motivation to raise Annie, before his Heel Realization. He wanted her to become a Warrior so he could live a comfortable life as an honorary Marleyan.
  • Rage Breaking Point: Armin finally lets loose of all his built up frustrations when Mikasa asks what they are going to do about Eren, ranting about everything that's going wrong right now on the island, and tells her that he doesn't have time to think about how bleak the Eren situation is. He immediately regrets snapping at her and says that Erwin wouldn't have yelled at her like that.
  • The Stoic: Annie became this as a result of her childhood of abuse at the hands of her adoptive father. She only becomes Not So Stoic when she sees that Mr. Leonhart regrets the way he treated her and that he really cares about her as a daughter.
  • Survivor's Guilt: After Armin snaps at Mikasa he muses that Erwin wouldn't have done that and admits that he still feels that it was a mistake to save him.
  • Surprisingly Realistic Outcome: The walls crumbling and the horde of fifty-metre Titans marching across the island flatten huge swathes of land and cause what may be thousands of deaths.
  • Tyrant Takes the Helm: With the Military's upper brass dead and the few remaining members of the old guard being purged the Jeagerists have fully taken over as the power of Paradis and are now in the process of cementing their position a such.
