Recap / Arrested Development S 5 E 3 Everyone Gets Atrophy

Go To

Lindsay's run for congress reunites the family again, except for Michael who happens to come back at the wrong time, George Michael who disappeared from the family's radar but ends up coming back from Mexico, and Buster who everyone forgot about.

Meanwhile Maeby's attempts to sabotage Lindsay's campaign as her manager do more good than harm, and George Michael goes through a brief regression to his childhood before facing the reality of his current situation in life.

The Arrested Development episode "Everyone Gets Atrophy" provides examples of:

  • Calling Me a Logarithm: Inverted. Lindsay is flattered being called "puta" which she believes means "young".
  • Everyone Is a Suspect: Pretty much enforced. After Michael asks his family where Lucille Austero is, everyone stays quite for unnecessarily long while exchanging worried gazes and looking guilty before Lucille Bluth says no one knows and everyone changes the subject quickly.
  • Good Cop/Bad Cop: When Buster turns himself in after 72 hours, his naivety quickly makes him the prime suspect in Lucille 2's disappearance. The cops decide they don't even need to pull the good/bad cop trick on him.
  • Power Hair: Maeby's grey wig is done in this style.
  • Prison Rape: Implied in the last scene when Buster's cellmate pulls at him.
  • Running Gag: Buster falling from the ledge of the armchair first when Lucille and later when GOB gets up from it.
  • Springtime for Hitler: Maeby does everything in her power to sabotage her mother's congressional campaign, from having her mock a reporter with a speech impediment to allowing another reporter to record her sexually harassing him - and in spite of it all, her mother's poll numbers consistently go up.
Maeby: I mean, she just keeps polling higher. What am I doing right?
  • Strange Minds Think Alike: Both Michael and his son imitate the window cleaner when they return to the model home at different points.
