Recap / All Hail King Julien S 02 E 07 Election

Go To

It's time to feed the Gorch, a legendary creature that lives in the cave that needs to be fed so that it doesn't come out and attack everyone. When Julien accidentally throws Mort in the cave instead, the gang goes down to rescue him only to discover that the "Gorch" is an elderly lemur named Doc Sugarfoot who has been trapped there with his tail pinned under a rock since the days of King Julien the Terrible.

After letting him free, the kingdom becomes fascinated by his advanced age and charming aphorisms and Doc Sugarfoot quickly rises in popularity to the point where he even begins overshadowing King Julien. After a brief fight, Doc Sugarfoot convinces the kingdom to hold an election to determine which of them should be king of the lemurs.

Tropes

  • Adipose Rex: Doc Sugarfoot has a similar extra large build to Uncle King Julien, which foreshadows the reveal that Sugarfoot is also a Julien King himself.
  • Deus ex Machina: Doc Sugarfoot is crowned king and promises his rule will be terrible and there is nothing anyone can do to stop him, and then he is abruptly struck by lightning and killed
  • The Dreaded: Given that his epitaph is "the Terrible", you know King Julien the Terrible is someone to be feared.
  • Election Day Episode
  • Foreshadowing: Doc Sugarfoot is an extremely old Ring-Tailed Lemur from the time of King Julien the Terrible. The fact that he refers to King Julien as "Young Julien" foreshadows the reveal that Doc Sugarfoot IS King Julien the Terrible.
  • No Name Given: King Julien the Terrible is only ever referred to by that title, leaving it up in the air if he was simply King Julien XI, or if he goes further back than that.
  • Older Is Better: A lot of Doc Sugarfoot's popularity seems to stem from him being the oldest lemur anyone has ever seen.
Horst: He's so old. And old people know stuff, yeah.
Willie: He smells dusty so, he's gotta be really wise.
Pancho: Think of all the great stuff he's seen by not being dead. I mean, Wow.
  • Screw This, I'm Outta Here: Hector is old enough to know what Doc Sugarfoot really is, and packs to leave the kingdom to get away from him.
  • Too Dumb to Live: Even after Doc Sugarfoot's Dark Secret is revealed, he still convinces the kingdom to vote for him anyway.
