Go To

After finding a bag of coffee beans in the Cove of Wonders and discovering its amazing abilities to boost his productivity, King Julien introduces his "Brown Julien" to the entire kingdom hoping to create a super efficient kingdom that never needs to sleep, but instead gets everyone hooked on caffeine, which causes trouble when the coffee runs out and Karl is the only one who can provide more.

Tropes

  • Blatant Lies
Clover: We know you stole the boombox, Willie! Give up, you're surrounded!
Willie (From inside hut): Whaat? I'm not even in here!
    Ted: He's bluffing!
    Clover: You think?
  • Call-Back: Karl had previously mentioned that his family's business is eating and excreting coffee beans. Here, Karl is explicitly getting his poo coffee from his family's coffee bean farm, which he has access to while his brother Bruce is on vacation.
  • Continuity Nod: Clover and Ted are seen working together to bust a criminal. Ted had been previously mentioned to be Assistant Captain of the Ringtail Guard and thus Clover's number two in "Eat Prey Shove".
  • Curb-Stomp Battle: Clover easily dispatches Karl’s rat minions.
  • "Flowers for Algernon" Syndrome: Coffee causes Mort to become super smart, and also British for some reason, but he is back to his old self once it wears off.
  • G-Rated Drug: Karl's evil plan is to make the kingdom dependent on coffee, and take control by being the sole provider.
  • Innocuously Important Episode: "Smart Mort" is introduced as just a particularly weird caffeine high, but what Smart Mort actually is will be expanded on and have great importance to later episodes.
  • It Tastes Like Feet: Maurice remarks that the dark roast coffee tastes "like fossa burps".
  • Leaning on the Fourth Wall
Julien: I require a tool for my beans!
    Timo: Huh?
    Maurice: It's his show baby, I'm just a co-star.
  • Long List: Julien's to-do list scrolls all the way down the cliff.
  • Must Have Caffeine: It doesn't take long for the entire kingdom to become completely dependent on coffee.
  • Sadistic Choice: Julien hesitates before deciding to shoot Karl even though Mort will likely also be hit, but his poor aim leads to him inadvertently taking a third option.
  • Takes a Third Option: As Julien is about to shoot Karl with his own ray gun, Karl takes Mort hostage and dares him to shoot them both. As Julien's aim wavers, he accidentally shoots the coffee plants, ruining Karl's plan.
  • Unreadably Fast Text: Visible entries on the royal to-do list include:
    Rampant crime
