Basic Trope: A person insults another person's weight.
- Straight: Alice calls Bob fat.
- Exaggerated: Alice says that Bob is so fat he'd break the scales.
- Downplayed: Alice calls Bob chubby, but in a playful way.
- Justified:
- Alice is mean and Bob is insecure.
- Bob's weight has become a hindrance in his day-to-day life and in his day job. Since Bob doesn't respond to anything but insults, Alice simply does what's needed to have him understand.
- Inverted:
- Bob is Fat and Proud, so Alice insults him by saying he is rail thin.
- Alice calls Bob fat as a compliment.
- Alice calls Bob skinny as a compliment.
- Bob makes fat jokes about himself.
- Bob makes skinny jokes about himself.
- Subverted: Alice looks Bob up and down and says Bob has lost weight.
- Double Subverted: Then she said he's still fat.
- Parodied: Morbidly obese Bob calls Hollywood Pudgy Alice fat. She's utterly baffled by his egregious display of Hypocritical Humor.
- Zig-Zagged: Alice calls Bob fat, but takes it back when he threatens to beat her up for it. But then she makes fat jokes about Bob to Carol and Dave.
- Averted: Nobody jokes about weight.
- Enforced: The jab is used to set up An Aesop about how either you shouldn't insult a person's weight, or that being fat is O.K.
- Lampshaded: "Insulting my weight, huh? You have nothing substantial to say then."
- Invoked: Hollywood Thin
- Exploited: Alice calls Bob fat specifically to enrage him into attacking her... so he can fall into the trap she's just set up.
- Defied: Alice is going to call Bob fat, but he's a Big Beautiful Man, so she doesn't.
- Discussed: "Why are people so worried about being fat, and if they aren't, they think it's funny?"
- Conversed: "Why do the characters in this show call that guy fat all the time? He ain't so fat!"
- Deconstructed: Bob is seriously offended by Alice's rudeness and gives her a beatdown.
- Reconstructed: She runs away. Bonus points if Bob is a Determinator, and he actually exercises a few pounds off trying to administer his beatdown to Alice.
- Played for Laughs:
- Bob thinks being called fat is funny, and they both joke about his weight.
- Alice only insults Bob's weight after running out of or being unable to come up with a better insult.
- Played for Drama:
- Bob has insecurity issues, or eating problems, as a result of constantly being called fat by Alice.
- (Continued from Reconstructed) Turns out Bob is an Acrofatic. Alice is gonna get it no matter what.
