Go To

Basic Trope: A smaller hero defeats a bigger, usually stronger, villain in a fight.

  • Straight: Bob fights and defeats Jason Bloodspiller, despite the latter being twice his size.
  • Exaggerated:
  • Downplayed: Jason is only a few inches taller than Bob, and is only slightly stronger.
  • Justified:
  • Inverted:
    • Jason defeats Bob.
    • Bob is taller than Jason.
    • Jason is bigger but weaker, while Bob is smaller but stronger.
  • Subverted:
    • At first, it appears that Jason is taller than Bob, but it turns out he's wearing stilts and in reality he is shorter than Bob.
    • It at first appears that Bob is gaining the upper hand, but Jason eventually defeats him.
  • Double Subverted:
    • It's actually revealed that while Jason may be shorter than Bob, he sure as hell isn't lighter; he's nearly 500 pounds of unstoppable muscle!
    • ...but then Bob pulls a Heroic Second Wind and beats Jason.
  • Parodied: Jason is a 50-foot-tall giant, but Bob sends him flying with one Megaton Punch.
  • Zig Zagged: Jason keeps recovering no matter how many times Bob knocks him down.
  • Averted: Bob and Jason never fight, nor do they meet.
  • Enforced: The author wants to write An Aesop about how size does not matter in winning.
  • Lampshaded: "Wow, that guy was like twice his size!"
  • Implied: Bob and Jason exchange a Held Gaze before the scene cuts away. The next time we see Jason, he is lying on the ground, injured.
  • Invoked: Bob tells Jason to Bring It.
  • Defied: Emperor Evulz stops Bob and Jason from fighting, knowing beforehand how strong Bob is for Jason.

Back to David Versus Goliath to watch that chump rock that fat bastard's shit in.
