Basic Trope: A neighbor that is perpetually foul-tempered.
- Straight: Old Man Bob often finds the antics of Alice and Charlie, two children who are his neighbors, very annoying.
- Exaggerated:
- Old Man Bob literally does nothing but disapprove of what Alice, Charlie, and anyone else is doing.
- Old Man Bob's entire family often reprimands Alice and Charlie for everything they do.
- Old Man Bob has declared war (symbolic, if not actual) on the rest of the neighborhood over every persnickety little thing he hates about them, from being allegedly too noisy to having flowers with too bright colors to having too many children to keeping the window blinds close so he cannot see if they are looking at him. He is on a first-name basis with the county's SWAT Team from all the times he has called the police.
- Downplayed: Old Man Bob only reprimands Alice and Charlie for fairly understandable reasons.
- Justified:
- Inverted: Old Man Bob is perpetually happy, which Alice and Charlie find annoying.
- Subverted: Though Old Man Bob is often shown looking rather grumpy, he is later shown to actually be pretty nice in his first introduction.
- Double Subverted: Until they realize all of Old Man Bob's "elderly wisdom" is just condescending insults.
- Parodied: Old Man Bob often appears out of nowhere to reprimand Alice and Charlie, regardless of where they are.
- Zig-Zagged: Old Man Bob's personality changes depending on the episode.
- Averted: There are no foul-tempered neighbors.
- Enforced: "We should give Alice and Charlie a neighbor that doesn't like them. That's a common sitcom trope."
- Lampshaded: "I don't know what in Heaven's name I did wrong, but ever since I waved hi to Old Man Bob five years ago, the man keeps acting like I was Dennis Mitchell wrecking his stuff."
- Invoked: ???
- Implied: Alice and Charlie say at one point early in the story that Dennis the Menace (US) resembles their lives quite closely, even if they are nothing like Dennis Mitchell.
- Exploited: Jim keeps ruining Old Man Bob's stuff and putting the blame on Alice and Charlie.
- Defied: Old Man Bob decides having a hate-on for his neighbors is not worth the effort - he's too old for that kind of shit.
- Discussed: ???
- Conversed: ???
