Basic Trope: A character who is overconfident in and brags about their fighting skills, but lacks anything in the way to try and back it up when pressed into an actual fight.
- Straight: Bob is a braggart who brags about being a badass and tries to prove it by attacking Marcy, only to get his ass kicked by her when he fights her.
- Exaggerated:
- Bob is a megalomaniac who considers himself to be omnipotent, only to get curb-stomped by a newbie.
- Bob is such a shameless braggart and so heavily goads people into fighting him yet when he gets hit just once he gets a Villainous Breakdown, complete with Inelegant Blubbering and crying for his mommy.
- Downplayed:
- Bob is a capable fighter but tends to be over his head at times.
- Bob is a capable fighter but he's Overshadowed by Awesome.
- Justified:
- Bob is the weakest or least talented member of his group, and he knows it, but he wants to prove his peers how tough he is by going after someone stronger than him.
- Bob hasn't adjusted to the fact that he's no longer in a tiny pond
- Inverted:
- Bob is the World's Strongest Man but is deferent to the point of being an Extreme Doormat.
- Smug Super
- Cowardly Lion
- Parodied: Bob always acts and talks loud but is ultimately a Harmless Villain.
- Averted:
- Bob can back up his bravado with his strength.
- Bob isn't a braggart.
- Enforced: "We need an egomaniac who can talk hits but can't take nor dish any."
- Lampshaded: "You again? Haven't I kicked your ass enough times?"
- Exploited: Emperor Evulz goads Bob into fighting him by taking advantage of his ego, knowing well that he can easily trounce him.
- Defied: Bob knows that he's weak and decides not to take on someone that he has no hope of winning against.
- Played For Drama: Bob frequently getting into fights despite being trounced at every time ultimately kills him.
