Nightmare Fuel / Quest for Camelot

Go To

  • The creation of the Ruber's metal henchmen can be fairly unnerving, especially if you've just heard all about the Cybermen.
    • Ruber uses the same potion from earlier to attach Excalibur to his hand in the last third of the film can also be unnerving, even if you watch the entire progress for 20 seconds. It even shows Ruber writhing in pain as the process happens.
Ruber: Prepare for the dawning... OF A NEW AGE!!!
    Kayley: No!
  • The Griffin is also rather scary with it's huge size and venom green eyes.
    • The first time you see him is where he breaks into the main tower in Camelot, plunging it into darkness. The music gets really terrifying as the Griffin eyes Arthur menacingly before he bites his arm and takes Excalibur.
    • Reportedly he was toned down because his original presence in the movie was too terrifying for children.
  • The scene where Ruber and his men break into Juliana's home, by firing several flaming arrows, breaking down the doors, and set some of it ablaze. Also, when Ruber reveals himself to Juliana, his evil grin on his face will terrify some viewers.
    • The lead-up to the invasion. Kayley's in the chicken coop collecting eggs, but then in comes Ruber as we can see his shadow looming over Kayley and the rooster.
  • Ruber threatens to kill Kayley if her mother doesn't take him to Camelot. His Slasher Smile, the way he decapitates a torn section of the tapestry that depicts Kayley and how he says "I think you'll find you won't be ABLE TO RESIST!", doesn't help at all.
    • The Swedish dub is even more frightening, which features Tommy "the-best-voice-in-sweden" Nilsson as Sir Ruber. Nilsson's take on the voice is different from Oldman's original, playing up Ruber's confidence and also the humor. But when Kayley tries to strike Ruber with the mace only for him to catch it with his hand and say "she won't get hurt", Nilsson speaks the line with contained rage which really sells the threat in totally different way. Nilsson also does his typical basso profundo voice which suits the character design much more than Oldan's tenor.
  • At the end of "Ruber", Ruben conjures an image of Camelot's standard (three interlocked rings). Suddenly, one of the rings turns into a snake like being that devours the other two rings as Ruber laughs.
  • The thorn hands in the Forbidden Forest count, where they snap at the Griffin, grabbing hold of his wings.
  • The scene where two of Ruber's minions chase Kayley in the Forbidden Forest is really scary.
  • The scene where Ruber repels several knights who are attempting to restrain him from attacking Arthur is a bit unnerving. Especially with Ruber killing Sir Lionel with one blow from his mace.
  • The scene where Ruber kills a dragon with a single punch. Awesome as it is, it still shows just how dangerous Ruber is.
  • The final battle itself becomes spooky where Ruber attempts to kill Arthur with Excalibur in a maniacal fit. Also, he attempts to kill Kayley and Garrett afterwards when they intervene in his plan where they encountered close shaves: Kayley ducked out of the way from Ruber's attack when he swung Excalibur at her, and Garrett could have been wounded by Excalibur, but Ruber sliced his staff instead, making him incapable to use it.
    • Shortly afterwards, even Ruber's death could be intense to some younger viewers where the stone's magic begins to violently react on the potion tainted on Excalibur and himself, where the process brutally disintegrates him into smoke and nothingness. Ruber's final dying act is simply to laugh. Which is incredibly creepy.
