Due to being a canon-welded work and the work's nature being a Prequel of In Another World with My Smartphone, all Chrono Crown spoilers will be unmarked!

Gollems, mechanical dolls created by an ancient civilization, have existed ever since the dawn of time after the ancient civilization was destroyed. In the present, Gollems are still with people and have used them for a multitude of purposes including battling, gaining the nickname "Gollem Users". Norn Patolakshe, a small teenage girl, as well as her Gollem, the Black Crown Noir, have arrived in the Royal Capital of Silesca, in the hopes that she can find Elluka Patolakshe, a renowned Gollem engineer and her lazy, immature sister, and reunite again after leaving for unknown reasons. But Norn would eventually find herself in a series of events that would turn her own world upside down.

Chrono Crown (クロノクラウン) is a 2015 web novel created by Patora Fuyuhara, the author behind the In Another World with My Smartphone novel series. While it is now an Orphaned Series, which sadly was on permanent hiatus and only completed up to 22 chapters, most of Chrono Crown's elements have become the subject of Canon Welding to the much bigger In Another World With My Smartphone story, thus making most characters that appeared in this story canon characters all along.note

Unlike In Another World With My Smartphone which is an isekai story as its MC Touya was from Earth, Chrono Crown is not the case as it takes place in a purely fantastical world with Norn being from the Reverse World.

Chrono Crown Tropes

  • Bad Boss: Zalem puts into this trope as he is no short of abusing his own Gollem Paladin for not being able to defeat Noir during their battle in Arc 1, Chapter 11, instead treating his Gollem as a mere tool. Lampshaded by Norn during their battle.
Zalem: "What are you doing that doesn't make any sense...I, the user, want it! Of course the Gollem will follow suit!"
Norn: "...Even that skinhead guy thought of his Gollem as his partner, but you seem to only see it as a tool."
  • Canon Welding: Of the case for In Another World With My Smartphone, where most if not all of the characters including Norn and Noir and the setting itselfnote  are merged into the bigger Smartphone universe. The backstory of Chrom Ranchesse, the creator of the Gollems in the ancient civilization before its destruction, have also been merged into the much bigger backstory of Smartphone's ancient past revolving two worlds including Touya's new world and the Reverse World and the Phrase invasion that happened 4000 years ago. The only character that did not strangely appear in Smartphone is Colette and her Crown Gollem Hayate, as they are instead respectively replaced by Luna Trieste (Colette's Corrupted Character Copy) and Viola (Hayate's Suspiciously Similar Substitute).
  • Frame-Up: In Arc 1, Chapter 7, after Norn and Noir uncovered the dead body of the skinhead man as well as the destroyed remains of his Gollem, the royal army's vice-commander Zalem Trant and his guards proceed to arrest her for the crime, despite the fact that Norn was innocent to the crime and was not the one behind it. Arc 1, Chapter 9 reveals who the exact culprit is: Zalem himself. He was the one who concocted the whole frame-up to blame Norn for the serial killings, when in reality he's actually behind all of the killings once Norn and Colette exposed him.
  • Nice Girl: Colette Ewein. Unlike the grouchy, short-tempered Norn, Colette is the antithesis to her, being a nice companion to her without a fault. Exemplified in Arc 1, Chapter 9 when she rescues her from being falsely accused of the serial killings, regretting for the fact that she caused Norn to be falsely imprisoned by Zalem after she and Hayate suddenly left during the end of Arc 1, Chapter 7.
  • Older Than They Look: Norn is fourteen years old but her stature makes her looking more of a child than a teenager. This is largely due to her using Noir's Crown ability that her physical age slowly regresses.
  • Orphaned Series: The story was only finished with a total of three arcs and twenty-two chapters total, leaving the story having many unresolved plot threads. However, due to Canon Welding of this story's elements to Smartphone's, the elements of it remain alive ipso facto and the existence of the Reverse World is one of the novel's major story arcs.
  • Phantasy Spelling: Golems in this story are spelt as Gollems.
  • Power at a Price: The Crown Gollems' abilities are often egregious for having side effects that using them for prolonged periods of time can and will wreak havoc to a person's well-being, even leading to a person's death.
    • Chronos Noir's ability allows Noir to grab items from alternate timelines, but at a hefty price of the user's physical age regressing by inch.
    • Blood Rouge's ability increases its fighting abilities significantly, but it comes at a huge price for the user since it requires the user's blood to activate it. And too much usage of it can and will lead to death. In Smartphone, overusing its Crown Ability is what it led to the death of Nia Belmott's father.
    • Distortion Blau's ability allows the user to create warp-spacing barriers and warp reality itself. However, the user requires to sleep, with the sleep duration being directly proportional to how much the ability is often used.
  • Prequel: Of In Another World with My Smartphone as the story takes place before the LN's Chapter 276 (Volume 10) when the Reverse World is firstly introduced.
  • Red Baron: "Chronos Noir" for Noir.
