  • Pixie immediately welcoming Brutus to the house, and offering to share her bed and bowl with him. It's both adorable and hilarious.
  • Just how patient Brutus is with Pixie. He understands that while she’s naive to the point that he can get annoyed by it, he does appreciate it and takes great pains to hide the nastier side of the world from her, and quickly calms himself when he does grow annoyed with her antics.
  • Brutus's reaction to Pixie's "scary" Halloween costume.
Pixie: Did I scare ya?! DID I? DID I? DID I?
    Brutus: (slight smile) ...Yes.
  • Crossed with awesome. During one Halloween strip, Brutus pieces together from Pixie's description of the movie she's watching that she's innocently stumbled onto A Nightmare on Elm Street (1984). He instantly smashes the television so the sight of Freddy Krueger "catching" one of his victims won't scar her for life.
  • Brutus watches Pixie "capture" Randal with a So Proud of You half-smile.
  • Pixie meets a spider, and compliments him on his web. He's surprised that she's not afraid of him; she replies, "Why would I be? You seem very nice." The spider is so happy that he blushes and cries a single happy tear.
  • Brutus teaching Hugo to stand up for himself when Randal keeps stealing bones from him, showing that he isn't just protective of Pixie, he's protective of anyone who needs it.
  • Pixie shows Brutus her "really cool" trick of kicking over a highlighter pen. Brutus has a Beat Panel in which he digests the matter, and then assures Pixie that it's "the coolest thing I've ever seen."
  • Brutus giving Randal a chance to redeem himself by fetching a feather from a tree for Pixie.
  • One collaboration strip gives the audience a look into Brutus' inner monologue for his first day at his new home (originally seen primarily through Pixie's eyes.) Despite initially thinking he was going to hate living with a civilian pet (especially a cat), he warms to Pixie immediately after meeting her.
    Brutus: This is acceptable.
  • Randal climbs inside a jack-o-lantern to eat the interior and frightens Pixie, who thinks the pumpkin ate him. She runs away...and returns with a fork to poke the monster with as she demands it spit Randal out. Even Randal, who took advantage of Pixie's naivete to prank her, finds it touching. It's possible Randal could have had an Kindness epiphany if Brutus hadn't shown up angry at him for scaring Pixie and basically told him to move along.
  • Brutus makes an attempt to get along with Randal and actually apologizes for his more aggressive moments, acknowledging that the raccoon hasn't been making as much trouble lately as he used to. (Though he does still toss Randal over the fence when the raccoon pushes his luck by booping him on the nose and suggesting that he won the dog over with his natural charm.)
  • In this strip, a Jerkass rabbit hits Pixie with a thrown pinecone, and everybody shows up to teach him the error of his ways. Even Randal!
  • Brutus is lying on a hillside with Pixie asleep on him. Initially he looks slightly grumpy, but then he cracks a slight smile, takes in the serene surroundings (including the sunset) and says, "Could be worse."
  • Similarly, the sound of thunder triggers Brutus' PTSD - but Pixie is able to snap him out of a flashback by asking if she can sleep with him, as she's scared of the thunder, clambering onto his back to sleep.
Brutus: Don't worry. It's just thunder. We'll be fine.
  • Though "Too Fast" is mostly a Tear Jerker, when Brutus is done finally explaining his tragic backstory to Pixie, she simply cuddles up to him as they sleep together. None of her usual cute remarks, no attempts to make him stop being sad. She knows how hard this is for him, and is going to be by his side throughout. It shows how much she's grown since the first time she asked about war.
  • The epilogue to the "Mutant" storyline, where the young stray dog whom Pixie and Brutus helped get medical attention when he was suffering from mange is brought back a bit later, now well-fed and healthy with all his fur grown back... and is revealed to have been newly adopted into their family.
