"This...not so bad"
Just because it's a wholesome comic about a retired military Dog and an adorable little kitten doesn't mean it can't scare the living shit out of us.
  • Brutus snarling at Randal to prevent him from resisting Pixie's "arrest." From his backstory, it's clear he must have been scary once upon a time, but understanding that isn't the same as seeing him baring his teeth with a Death Glare and a warning growl, looking practically feral.
  • Pixie being snatched by an eagle. So much that Brutus goes full blown Papa Wolf on the eagle, even when the Eagle already made peace with Pixie and didn't see her as food.
  • An abstract case for when Pixie points out that anything can look like a face after pointing toward a power socket looking like a sad face. After that, both she and Brutus look at an upside down jacket on a nearby couch. Look at it hard enough like they did and you too will understand why they were disturbed.
  • Dexter and Brutus try exposure therapy in order to stop Hugo from fearing Bees. Dexter tells Hugo to move closer to the bee, in which he responds with "This...not so bad." It goes pretty well until there we see a realistic, extreme close-up of the bee. This causes Hugo to run away at the speed of light,
Dexter: How does such a big dog move so fast?!
    Brutus: Adrenaline.
  • "The Long Story Parts 1 and 2". Mister Wrinkles is taken hostage by a snake who threatens to "pump his blood full of venom" (of which a drop could kill a hundred cats) if his friends don't get her some dinner. Brutus' response? Telling the snake to actually bite him to prove if she's actually venomous or not. Granted, it turns out she wasn't dangerous at all — she just got lost in the woods and was afraid no one would help a snake find food — but it takes a few strips to find out.
  • This Strip reveals why Hugo has an irrational fear of birds. When he was young, he wandered over to a chicken coop where an angry Hen attacked him and pecked his eye out in the process.
    • Not helped by Mister Wrinkles saying that the eye wasn't necessarily pecked out, but damaged to the point where it had to be surgically removed.
  • Too Fast. Especially when it shows Brutus being shot and his handler Sergio's corpse bleeding out. It's quite depressing and realistic, and you thought that this comic was supposed to be wholesome.
  • Brutus hearing thunder triggers flashbacks to being in a gunfight with his former handler, complete with crouching and pitiful expressions as he relives the trauma. Thankfully, Pixie arriving snaps him out of it.
  • The "Giant Mutant Vampire Rat"... except it then delves into Tear Jerker with the revelation that it was really just a stray pup infected with mange.
  • "Good One" is a Halloween episode where Pixie and Brutus are a fire elemental and an ice elemental respectively. Pixie is splashed by water by a passing car and Stripped to the Bone, fortunately setting her bones on fire brings her back like nothing happened. Brutus prevents it from happening again by using his ice breath to freeze the puddle but causes a car accident in the process.
