Funny / A Storm's Lullaby

Go To

  • The very premise of the comic, seeing badass Tempest Shadow struggling to take care of a young filly when the position of Parental Substitute is unexpectedly thrust upon her.
  • Tempest's deadpan expression upon Lullaby splashing her with water as she jumps into the lake.
  • As Tempest and Thistle argue over what is best for Lullaby, due to Tempest refusing to permanently stay and be part of a family with the two of them, she at one point says she will do anything else besides stay with them. When she ends up ordering Thistle to ask her for something, Thistle takes advantage of the opportunity by telling Tempest to kiss her. Tempest ends up caught in her promise, but keeps her word and shares a passionate kiss with Thistle. Also counts as a heartwarming moment between the two.
  • The morning after arriving at Thistle's cottage, Tempest tells Thistle how the two of them are Just Friends, despite the moments they have shared together, bringing Thistle to tears. Right as Thistle begins to say how she will give up pursing Tempest and stop kissing her, Tempest suddenly pulls Thistle into a deep hug, telling her she wants to be "friends with benefits with her". Seeing Tempest be the one to embrace Thistle is funny enough, but the look on Thistle's face as Tempest glomps her is what sells it.
  • As Tempest and Thistle start to get comfortable together, including sharing another kiss together, out of nowhere Tempest suddenly pulls away from Thistle, bringing their moment to an end, declaring that she can tell Lullaby is crying. This is despite nothing being shown on-screen to indicate this. Tempest is becoming more and more like a mom each day.
  • Lullaby innocently states she thought that Tempest and Thistle were going to get married soon. When they explain they aren't actually a couple, Lullaby says she thought that when two ponies live together and kiss a lot, it means they're a couple.
Thistle: It's not - wait, w-when did you see us kissing?
Lullaby: In the lake and in the forest. Can I have more juice?
  • At night after putting Lullaby to sleep, Tempest is eager to resume where she and Thistle previously left off, only for Thistle to say they can't in the same room as Lullaby and to follow her to another room. Considering Thistle was the eager one to start a relationship with Tempest previously, it is quite the Swapped Roles now.
  • Tempest forces Lullaby to face her fears of thunder storms. After some Tough Love, Lullaby becomes brave enough to not hide from it, while Tempest secretly uses her magic from her broken horn to stop the storm. This gives Lullaby a massive ego boost, believing she stopped the storm herself and can now control the weather to her will.
  • Thistle tries to show Lullaby her own room, saying it is healthy for fillies her age to sleep on their own (and sometimes mommies need time to themselves).
