"You have just dined, and however scrupulously the slaughterhouse is concealed in the graceful distance of miles, there is complicity."

Dominion is an Australian documentary film released in 2018 by animal rights activist, Chris Delforce. The film is centred on a realistic stance about animal agricultural practices to educate public perceptions about animal agriculture by presenting graphic footage filmed with hidden cameras and aerial drones. The film focuses on 6 topics: farmed animals, wild animals, companion animals, entertainment animals, fur animals, and animal experimentation.

It is available for free at the filmmaker's website.

Not to be confused with Jurassic World Dominion.

Provides examples of:

  • Artistic License – Animal Care: The meat industry section only shows the worst slaughterhouse in scenarios and the narrator talks about these as if they are common practice. In reality, these would be counterproductive.
  • Ass Shove: When artificially inseminating a cow, a dairy farmer shoves his left arm in the cow's anus to hold her cervix in place.
  • Cruel and Unusual Death: The documentary uses real footage of shelters, slaughterhouses, and similar to illustrate what animals go through. Some highlights:
    • Chicks being ground up alive.
    • Cows and sheep getting their throats slit while conscious.
    • Animals drowning in scalding tanks.
  • Gorn: It is an extremely brutal and graphic film.
  • I'm a Humanitarian: The chickens are debeaked to prevent them from cannibalizing each other.
  • "It" Is Dehumanizing: Why the narrator often speaks of animals as "he or she".
  • Men Are the Expendable Gender: Male calves are slaughtered in the dairy industry and male chicks are ground up alive in hatcheries.
  • Mercy Kill: Subverted. Captive bolts were designed to kill an animal with as little suffering as possible, but as the documentary shows, it does not always work as intended.
  • Obliviously Evil: The workers don't realize the stress, pain, and fear they're causing to the animals.
  • Outliving One's Offspring: What happens to cows in the dairy industry if the calf is born male.
  • Slashed Throat: How animals used for meat are slaughtered.
  • Static Stun Gun: How pigs are rendered unconscious before slaughter.
  • What Measure Is a Non-Human?: The animals are horribly mistreated just so they can be exploited by humans.
  • You Have Outlived Your Usefulness: Dairy cows are sent to the slaughterhouse when they stop producing milk.
