The Fire Has Burnt Out is a fix-it and AU fanfiction based on Warrior Cats by Erin Hunter. It aims to improve the general world of Warrior Cats, add proper genetics, and fix things that annoy the AU's creator.

This series provides examples of:
- Adaptation Dye-Job: Several characters have a different appearance than in canon due to genetics.
- Adaptational Villainy: Hawkfrost is a notably worse cat than in canon, since he neglects his mate and kits and practically wothips his father.
- Adaptational Sexuality: Several characters are LGBT+ despite canon never mentioning the subject. A notable example is the main character, Sandstorm, having a female mate, Princess.
- Adaptational Ugliness: Ashfur receives a large burn scar on his face and side after he's pushed into a fire by Squirrelflight.
- Adaptational Angst Upgrade: Applies to multiple characters, namely Hawkfrost (see above), Ashfur (tries to kill the three because Squirrelflight left him), and Clear Sky (who is the only founder in the Dark Forest).
- Adaptational Karma: Several characters end up in the Dark Forest rather than Star Clan, like in canon, most namely Ashfur and Clear Sky.
- Adaptational Late Appearance: Rusty doesn't show up to begin the story.
- Adaptational Early Appearance: The story begins with Sandpaw, who is the new main character but doesn't appear for the first chapter in canon.
- Adaptational Backstory Change: Scourge is in charge of Blood Clan and the cats of Twolegplace for a long time, which isn't addressed in canon.
- Adaptational Alternate Ending: Ashfur's arc ends with him getting a big burn scar, being murdered, and going to the Dark Forest.
- Artifact Title: "The Fire Has Burnt Out" refers to Firestar never joining Thunder Clan and the general sad tone of the early concept. The story has since changed to focus more on improving the series and is a lot happier.
- Animal Religion: Like in canon, the Clans believe in Star Clan and the Dark Forest.
- Career-Ending Injury: Double-subverted with Cinderpelt. She's capable of being a warrior even with her twisted leg, but she chooses the path of a medicine cat due to bonding with Yellowfang.
- Fix Fic: The storyline has expanded to cover many plots that the creator thought needed to be better.
- Outliving One's Offspring: Featherkit, Dappletail's son, snuck out of camp and was killed by a fox. His body was never found.
- Spared by the Adaptation: Snowkit, who in the books is taken by a hawk, grows into an adult named Snowheart in this AU.
- What If?: The AU explores what would have happened if Sandpaw was the subject of the first arc's prophecy instead of Rusty.
