Go To

The Exchange is a crossover of Glee and The Inbetweeners, first published on FanFiction.Net in 2010. In the fic, Simon Cooper and Rachel Berry undertake a long-distance student exchange. While Simon and Jay ingratiate themselves with New Directions, Rachel attempts to do the impossible, setting up a Glee club at Rudge Park.

Followed by a sequel, Highway 30, which adds The Big Bang Theory into the crossover. In this instalment, Simon finds he's the long-lost cousin of another Cooper and takes a road trip across the country to meet him for the first time.

Tropes appearing in the Exchange

  • Artistic License - Exchange programs: It's unlikely such a long-distance exchange would take place, and very unlikely the Rudge Park glee club would be flown over for a competition.
  • Blatant Lies: Jay, naturally. He gets called on his more than usual.
  • Crossover Ship: Simon and Santana, Neil and Brittany.
  • Go-Karting with Bowser: Will and Donovan join Rachel's glee club together. This doesn't thaw their hatred for each other.
  • Odd Friendship: Kurt and Jay.
  • Red Oni, Blue Oni: Jay spends most of the story being as much as a pest as usual, caring less about embracing another culture than getting laid. Simon is laid back, makes friends and enjoys Lima.

Tropes appearing in Highway 30

  • Critical Research Failure: In-universe. Neil and Britanny have heard of Al Capone, and want to meet him, not realising he's been dead for more than sixty years.
  • Advertisement:
  • Eagle Land: Simon sees the Midwest as a type 1.
  • Emancipated Child: How the Inbetweeners got to move to America alone. Mostly runs on - Law.
  • Long-Lost Relative: Sheldon and Simon are cousins. Provides the impetus for the trip.
  • Road Trip Plot
