Iron Kissed
is a Miraculous Ladybug Alternate Universe fanfic by MiniMinou. Though it shares many themes with the author's Prince Charming, the two stories are not related.
Iron Kissed contains examples of:
- Cold Iron: Iron is anathema to the Fae. Its touch burns them and breaks their glamours, and injuries from iron weapons are lethal.
- Deal with the Devil: Gabriel agrees to give Lady Nightmare his son in exchange for the throne. In his defense, he was completely plastered at the time, and didn't even know he was talking to Lady Nightmare.
- Dream-Crushing Handicap: Alya wanted to be a hunter, but she's severely near-sighted. She knew that if her family found out they'd reassign her to being one of the "civilian" members who raise the next generation and intermingle with mundane society, so as her vision decayed she compensated by training her ass off in secret until she could convince her family that she was merely inept rather than half-blind. Even so, she was one of the last to recieve a talisman, and when she did it was the Moth Brooch, the primary power of which is the ability to empower others as champions stronger than itself. Ironically enough, the Moth Brooch actually restores Alya's vision while she is using it, and prolonged use has slowly been restoring her sight even in her civilian form.
- Emotion Eater: The fae of Destruction feed off mortal suffering and misery, while their counterparts of Creation are sustained by mortal happiness.
- Extra-Strength Masquerade: In the distant past, the Fae apparently laid a powerful glamour over the world that makes it nearly impossible for mortals to believe in the existence of the Fae unless they see them with their own eyes.
- The Fair Folk:
- The Fae of the Nightmare Courts, dark creatures that feed on mortal misery and despair and torment humans in order to cultivate the pain they crave.
- They do have more benign counterparts, Fae who are instead sustained by joy and happiness, but even those are not all good. Most live in a state of benign neglect, reveling in their own joys and leaving the mortals to their own devices. Only a few bestir themselves to protect and aid the humans.
- Glamour Failure: The touch of iron shatters Fae glamours, forcing them into their true forms.
- Healing Magic Is the Hardest: Alya mentions that healing is among the rarest of magical talents. That Marinette manifested healing magic in addition to formidable combat abilities is considered an exceptionally impressive feat.
- Impostor-Exposing Test: As mentioned above, iron is anathema to the Fae, and even a Changeling cannot hold their glamour if touched by iron. Cat Noir, on the other hand, is "Iron Kissed" and does not lose his glamour if he touches iron. He has used this twice to "prove" that he is who he is pretending to be (once on purpose, and once by accident).
- Jackass Genie: Lady Nightmare disguises herself as a prostitute and gets Gabriel blind stinking drunk in order to con him into saying that he would trade his firstborn for the throne.
- Light Is Not Good: The fae of Creation. Although they do not harm humans, few bestir themselves to protect them either.
- No-Sell: Both Nino and Marinette have a natural resistance to fae glamours.
- One Hero, Hold the Weaksauce: As a transformed human rather than a true Fae, Cat Noir can touch iron without being harmed or losing his glamour.
- Possession Implies Mastery: Justified: A champion instinctively knows how to use his or her new powers, because those powers are the expression of their fundamental nature.
- Support Party Member: While the butterfly pin does grant enhanced physical abilities, its true power is the ability to empower others as champions stronger than itself. For this reason, it tends to be a bit of a "consolation prize" among the Cesaires' stock of talismans.
- Unfinished, Untested, Used Anyway: Justified with the Moth Brooch's champions. A champion's first transformation will set their powers and form for all subsequent transformations, and it's based heavily on their exact circumstances and mental state at the moment of change. So for best effect, a champion shouldn't transform until the actual moment of need.
- Voluntary Shapeshifting: A Changeling's main power. While most Fae can use glamours to look like pretty much whatever they want, Changelings are among the few capable of actually altering their physical form.
- Words Can Break My Bones: Marinette's champion power. Her transformed form has a fan with five magical feathers, each of which can be expended to cast a single one-word spell ("Reveal", "Blind", "Heal", etc.)
