Alice (The Non-Return)
is an Alice, Girl from the Future fanfic written in Russian by S. Chekmayev and A. Las. With no updates since circa 2000, it's regrettably a Dead Fic and likely to remain so.
This Alternate Universe Fic starts where One Hundred Years Ahead ends. It is revealed that the unsanctioned time-traveling has caused a temporal catastrophe, so Alice and the pirates are stuck in the past all over again. The pirates immediately plan to have a new go at taking the mielophone. Meanwhile, back in the 21st century, the staff of the Institute of Time tries to prevent the collapse of time itself.
Tropes present in the fanfic:
- Adaptational Badass: Rat is a Living Lie Detector and instantly knows when someone is trying to deceive him. In canon, although it's not easy, he can be tricked (a shining example thereof is A Million Adventures).
- Adaptational Wimp: Alice is much more Prone to Tears and passive than her canon counterpart.
- Bloodier and Gorier: You'd bet. The first two chapters feature an extremely gruesome murder of Nikolay Nikolayevich, which quickly shows that this fic won't be half as bright and fluffy as canon.
- Cool Old Lady: Maria Mikhaylovna, Yulia's grandmother, is extremely lively and energetic and excels at multitasking.
- Heel–Face Turn: Fima is generally skeptical about helping Alice again and plans to hand the mielophone over to the pirates should they find out it's in his keeping. However, by the last published chapter, he realizes he won't be able to betray his friends.
- Killed Off for Real: Lampshaded. When Alice tells her classmates that the pirates have killed Nikolay Nikolayevich, the children are shocked as they realize the fun adventure part is over.
- Last One's Ploy: Brought up in the space pirates' dossiers. While it's allowed to kill Jolly U if he resists arrest, the same isn't permitted in the case of Rat, since the latter is likely The Last of His Kind. Rat should only be paralyzed to be given a brain correction later.
- Ominous Knocking: At one point, Yulia and her classmates hear someone knocking on the door (while everyone else who lives in the apartment has keys and there's a doorbell anyway) and grow increasingly unsettled and scared. Yulia suggests calling the police, but Fima points out that "Help! Someone knocked on our door!" won't be taken seriously. It turns out it's their good friend Alice, but with news of a catastrophe and a horrible murder.
- Only One Me Allowed Right Now: If two iterations of the same object come together in the same time moment, a timequake and potential temporal storm will ensue.
- Teeth-Clenched Teamwork: Rat and Jolly U quietly despise each other but work together against the forces of the law.
- Time Crash: A timequake and then a temporal storm begins due to unsanctioned time travelers causing mayhem in the past. Since the fic is Cut Short, we aren't fully shown what it entails, but we already learn that it causes the deaths of several hundred professional time travelers whom the storm throws away into a period before time itself began.
