Hot-Blooded: To an absurd degree. Again, this is the man who challenged the leader of an invasion fleet to a one-on-one fistfight.
Guile Hero: Surprisingly, he does have his moments. The fistfight thing only worked because he knew that said invasion fleet consisted almost entirely of people who put Honor Before Reason, for instance.
Platonic Life-Partners: Has essentially zero romantic interest in Sam. Subverted in later chapters. Their daughters are major characters in the sequel.
Reasonable Authority Figure: Always willing to listen and help out with whatever seems to be bugging his men.
Samantha Wellings
The Lancer: She's been Jager's lieutenant ever since the Empire invaded Gallia. As a bonus, she's also a literal lancer.
Platonic Life-Partners: Displays basically no romantic interest in Jager, but will still follow him to the ends of the earth. See Jager's entry of this.
Sarcastic Devotee: She's fiercly loyal to Jager, but that doesn't keep her from needling him every chance she gets.
Action Girl: Quite possibly the best fighter in the squad.
Broken Bird: She's a Darcsen who grew up in the Empire, where she was heavily discriminated against. Her skills and taciturn disposition come from her past membership in a resistance group.
Combat Pragmatist: Has absolutely no concept of fair play. One of her first onscreen fights had her pull a man through a window, stab him, and immediately throw a grenade back through that same window to kill everyone else in the room.
Ship Tease: With Jager. Happens again in a later chapter even though Jager and Sam are a couple by that point. In front of her DAD, no less.
Stealth Hi/Bye: Routinely manages to sneak up on Jager, which is no easy feat.
Genius Sweet Tooth: When she's on a rush she takes the normal Darcsen talent of engineering and kicks it into overdrive.
MacGyvering: Her first act in the war was to escape an Imperial raid on her village by making a potato cannon, smoke grenades, and fixing a broken truck, within the span of ten minutes, from one walk through a second-hand scrap heap.

Imperials
Karla
Lady of War: Graceful, noble, and incredibly deadly.
My Country, Right or Wrong: Despite her affection for Jager and her ties to Gallia, she fights for the Empire.
