Characters / The Interface Series

Go To

The cast of The Interface Series, spread across several narratives.

    open/close all folders

The Investigator's Narrative

    The Investigator
The protagonist of the very first narrative, who is investigating the strange phenomenon of "flesh interfaces".
  • Mr. Exposition: They mainly serve less as a character and more of a vehicle to explain the flesh interfaces, or at least what little is known about them at the time, to set up the other narratives.

The CIA Researcher's Narrative

    The CIA Researcher
A researcher in the CIA conducting experiments with the flesh interfaces.

The SS Officer's Narrative

    The SS Officer
A concentration camp officer who encounters Dr Engel.
  • Nazi Protagonist: He is a worker within a concentration camp, and the Nazi part of the story is told from his point of view. He is of the unrepentant Villain Protagonist type who fully buys into the Nazi ideology.
  • Villain Protagonist: He's a Nazi camp officer. To drive this in, one of his first acts is to stomp a baby's head and then shoot the mother dead.
  • Would Hurt a Child: One of his first acts is to stomp on a baby's skull.

    Dr. Engel
A strange doctor assigned to the camp.

    The Nameless Jew
A nameless, overweight Jewish man always seen with Engel.
  • The Dog Bites Back: After presumably suffering a lot of abuse as Dr. Engel's slave, he finally snaps and kills him and his fellow scientists. He then makes an honest plea to the SS Officer to stop Mother's plan and save humanity.
  • No Name Given: He is only called "The Jew" by the SS Officer. Given his status as one of Nazi Germany's undesirables, it's likely that none of the camp workers would ever bother to learn his name because that would humanize him in their eyes.

The Cat and Alice's Narratives

    The Cat

    Alice

The Watcher's Narrative

    The Watcher

    The Crone

Ben and Karen's Narratives

    Ben

    Karen Castillo

    Zhenzhen Sobakin

    Corey Lancer

The Author's Narrative

    Nick
The writer of the posts himself. A struggling alcoholic, he finds it hard to fight his addiction as his life is falling apart.
  • Flat-Earth Atheist: He is a very staunch atheist who has a distaste for Alcoholics Anonymous and their religious approach to treating alcoholism. Even though he spent much of his childhood with an Eldritch Abomination heavily implied to be Satan, who taught him some supernatural powers.

    Shawn
An anti-Semetic Black Jew and friend of Nick.
  • Boomerang Bigot: An African-Jewish-American who goes on tirades against the African-American population while also stating, in his first post, his approval of The Holocaust.

Other

    Mother Horse Eyes/Q
An ancient entity that is the antagonist of the entire series. She is something that lies in the world beyond the flesh interfaces. As we learn more about her, we find that she has controlled humanity through their DNA for ages, and she wants to assimilate humanity into herself. In the main timeline, she is experimented on by the Nazis and becomes Q, an artificial intelligence-organic being hybrid that gains control of the Combined Governance Corporation and uses it to subjugate humanity. In Nick's timeline, she is a humanoid entity he seems very familiar with.
  • The Assimilator: Q wishes to fuse all lifeforms into one. The ending makes it ambiguous whether she manages to pull it off or simply destroys the earth out of spite.
  • The Bad Guy Wins: In the main timeline, she wipes out most of humanity after assimilating as many of them as she can, with the few survivors in space being too apathetic to form a resistance. The one in Nick's timeline is never clarified as the story ends just before the final confrontation, but it's unlikely a single human can possibly defeat a powerful Eldritch Abomination.
  • Big Bad: She is an Eldritch Abomination responsible for manipulating all of human history and pre-history, and is responsible for all the horror in each time period. In the main timeline, she slowly establishes a totalitarian rule over the planet, keeping everyone in virtual reality prisons, while in Nick's timeline, she is his main tormentor and the one driving him into his alcoholism.
  • Satan: While never explicitly said, it is implied that Mother, the Eldritch Abomination villainess, is in fact the Devil. She is an ancient being from before prehistory who is said to have guided and shaped humanity through their DNA. She is mentioned in a post on a thread discussing Lucifer, and the post is titled "I-20 West with The Devil on our ass", wherein the forces of Mother/Q are pursuing Ben and Karen. In an earlier post, a Korean references the Devil and how the Devil "came here". The very religious Shawn also refers to the "evil one" tempting him in the same cave where Mother is said to dwell. At one point, she tells Nick to command stones to become bread, which is a direct quote from Satan in The Bible- and her reaction to Nick reading the Bible itself is pain and bleeding to the point of her body falling apart. She also seems to rule over a strange realm on the other side of the flesh interfaces, possibly Hell.
