Leadership
The Uniter
The leader of the Defiled and the one who has turned them from a large collection of savages into a cohesive army. He is later revealed to be Zhen Shi, who survived his reported death and decided to conquer the Empire.
- Dark Secret: Zhen Shi is this to the Imperial Clan. Only members of the Imperial Clan know that he is an Imperial Scion.
- Entertainingly Wrong: After fighting Rain in the Void in Chapter 806, the Uniter comes to the conclusion that Rain is too inexperienced to be a reincarnation, and assumes that his more esoteric abilities are a result of drawing power from the Elemental Spirit in his soul.
- Fallen Hero: He was once (arguably) a good man who wanted to help the Empire become stronger and defeat the Defiled. Now he leads the Defiled in their attempt to destroy the Empire.
- Grand Theft Me: He can do this to those who's wills are weak enough, allowing his to either completely dominate their consciousness, or look into their memories.
- Mad Scientist: He made numerous experiments in his quest for knowledge, leaving behind mountains of corpses.
- Split Personality: He is actually a Natal Soul created by the first Emperor.
Gen
A young peasant boy who became Defiled after getting into a confrontation with Rain.
- Compelling Voice: He has a Talent for Oration, which he uses to break the wills of defeated enemies, causing them to become Defiled.
- Dishing Out Dirt: He is said to have the Blessing of Earth, but he has yet to use it.
- Extra-ore-dinary: With his two Primal Blessings, Gen is able to use the Auxiliary Blessing of Metal.
- Grand Theft Me: Gets possessed by a Natal Soul of Zhen Shi.
- Playing with Fire: He has the Blessing of Fire.
Goujian
The Confessor, the man who started the Purges. He joined the Defiled after he failed to let go of his grudge against Falling Rain for killing his favored Disciple.
- Meaningful Name: He gave himself the name Goujian, which means "Hooking/Weaving/Ensnaring Sword", as an allusion to both his favored weapon and his self-imposed Holy Duty of finding and ensnaring those who've succumbed to Defilement.
- You Are What You Hate: He eventually became one of the Defiled he once hated. He rationalizes it as seeing the Truth and believes that by joining hands with the Uniter's forces, they can cleanse the Empire of its rot and create a better society.
Divinity
Zhu Chanzui
A Bristleboar Ancestral Beast who is infamous for his gluttony and lust. He is later discovered to be Defiled and supplying the Defiled with a new weapon, Anathema.
- Dirty Coward: Rain believes he's one, as he only fights when he has a massive advantage. The moment there is an uncertainty that could mean even a chance of defeat, he runs away, such as Ping Ping, an Animal Divinity showing herself to defend Rain.
- The Hedonist: He loves to have sex and eat food, so much so that he's infamous for his gluttony and lust.
- Meaningful Name: Zhu Chanzui translates to "Gluttonous Pig", which is fitting for an Ancestral Bristleboar whose prime concern is his appetite, both for food and sex.
Demons
Demon Bei
The Demonized form of Bei.
- Stealthy Teleportation: Is capable of this thanks to having Space Blessing.
- Undying Loyalty: To Gen.
Tribal Defiled
The most common defiled. They are the ones who come from outside the Empire and live in inhospitable conditions. Vivek Daatei
A Defiled Chieftain that fought Rain before becoming a Demon.
- Smug Snake: He had wild ambitions of taking over the Empire and overthrowing the Uniter.
Vithar
A Defiled Chieftain.
- Arch-Enemy: Of Huu. He is the one who killed Huu's mount and uncle.
