    Job
A wealthy and blessed man of God who one day finds himself on the receiving end of one of the most intense and brutal Secret Tests of Character ever. After losing everything he has to find a reason to go on living while keeping his faith in the Almighty, a task that will definitely not be easy as ever more miseries begin to pile up in the tortured remnants of his shattered life.
  • Butt-Monkey: Arguably one of the biggest Played for Drama cases in not just the Bible but all of literature in general. The story begins with him losing his family and wealth and just goes on from there.
  • Death Seeker: He becomes this after suffering through countless misfortunes and afflictions in a very short amount of time. It's hard to blame him.
  • Outliving One's Offspring: A particularly brutal example. His seven sons and three daughters all die when their house collapses on them.
  • The Pollyanna: For a while. Then what had happened to him took its toll on him, leaving him gloomy. He resumed his former disposition after God's speech humbled him.
  • Riches to Rags: He starts out as one of the most wealthy men in the world and slowly loses everything including his family, fortune and even his health.
  • Undying Loyalty: No matter how senselessly cruel and miserable his life becomes he manages to keep his faith in God through it all.

    Eliphaz, Bildad & Zophar
Job's trio of "friends" whom he spends the majority of the story arguing with.
  • Hypocrite: They accuse Job of being too talkative despite having plenty to say themselves.
  • No Sympathy: Their main flaw is that they have little to no actual sympathy for Job's predicament and just make things worse by blaming him for his own misery.
  • With Friends Like These...: All of them are supposed to be Job's friends but rather than try to cheer him up over his extreme misfortune they instead blame him for his own suffering and don't try to do anything to actually help him.
