    Volume 1
  • Chapter 1 - 'Ruby Rose! Hunting Duelist!'
    • Ruby's encounter with Torchwick is a continuous display of how much of a Teen Genius she is. First by making a duel anchor out of her aura to keep him from fleeing, then by using her Seed Cannon spell and summoning a bunch of Plant-Type monsters to take out nearly half the criminal's life points before he even gets a turn. And when Torchwick gains the upper hand, she shows she's capable of Synchro Summoning by busting out Black Rose Dragon.
    • Black Rose Dragon's summoning is a particularly awesome moment, with its summoning chant being a mix of Akiza's from Yu-Gi-Oh! 5Ds and the lyrics of Red Like Roses.
Ruby: Red like roses fills my dreams and brings me to the place you rest. The cold flame envelops the entire world. Thus, kindly scatter and bring me victory. Black flower, bloom! Synchro Summon! Black Rose Dragon!
    • Credit to Torchwick, he went move for move with Ruby the entire duel. Even after Black Rose Dragon nuked the field and Ruby had Monster Reborn ready to bring it back, he had another monster ready to be summoned. It's debatable whether Cinder's arrival to break up the duel saved him from Ruby, or Ruby from him.
  • Chapters 2 & 3 - 'Race with the Champion'
    • It's Yang vs. Pyrrha in a Turbo Duel. That alone is the definition of Cool Versus Awesome.
    • In this story, Pyrrha's Red Baron of 'The Invincible Girl' refers to how none of her tournament opponents in the last four years had ever gotta her life points below half. Yang does so before the duel's first chapter is over.
    • Noticing her opponent isn't enjoying the duel or going all out, Yang encourages Pyrrha to not be depressed by her reputation as 'The Invincible Girl' and go all out in enjoying the match. Pyrrha responds by doing just that, forgoing summoning her usual ace Heroic Champion - Excalibur (that Yang had anticipated and had a counter ready for) to instead summon Number 86: Heroic Champion - Rhongomyniad. The new monster easily blows through Yang's Hot Red Dragon Archfiend and wins Pyrrha the match.
  • Chapters 5 & 6 - 'Black Rose vs. Blue-Eyes'
    • Ruby calling out Weiss for being unwilling to use her Xyz monsters. While Weiss has reason to hesitate due to Jacques teaching her Xyz Summoning through Training from Hell, Ruby points out that none of that is her monsters' fault and she shouldn't take out her justified issues with her father on them. She also points out that Weiss has no right to the leadership position they're dueling over if she isn't going to duel with everything she's got.
  • Chapters 7 & 8 - 'Fools and Keys'
    • Astral, while possessing Jaune, duels Cardin and Xyz Summons Number 39: Utopia.
Astral: With order and chaos bound to your shining wings of valor, rise like the dawn to banish light and darkness! Messenger of Hope! Xyz Summon! Number 39: Utopia.
      • Astral then uses its effect and Double or Nothing! to make Utopia strong enough to destroy Cardin's Battleguard General, which has 4000 attack points.
  • Chapter 14 - 'The Docks - Rainbow on a Sunny Day'
    • Ruby pulls off an FTK against two White Fang grunts.
    • Sun, in his first turn alone, is able to pull off a combo that results in Ilia having to discard her entire starting hand.
      • Ilia, in turn, is able to summon her ace monster, Amazoness Augusta, to make a comeback and pull off an OTK.
  • Chapter 15 - 'The Docks - Dark Fears, Light Wonders'
    • Penny dominates the two-on-two duel of her and Ruby vs. Torchwick and Perry. Roman in particular starts to view her as The Dreaded when she unleashes the first Link Monsters on Remnant and caps off the match by summoning Cyberse Clock Dragon with 7500 ATK, the highest attack points seen thus far in the story.

    Volume 2
  • Chapter 17 & 18 - 'Magic and Mysteries'
    • Astral demonstrates how skilled he is after forging several support cards for Utopia by performing a Chaos Xyz Evolution to summon Number C39: Utopia Ray in his duel against Weiss and Ruby to bring Weiss' life points from 4000 to 0 with a single attack.
Astral: Chaos built upon order to forge power beyond light and darkness! From the peak of reality, descend on determined wings of will! Reincarnated Messenger of Hope! Number C39: Utopia Ray!
      • Astral later tops this when he uses Shining Draw to create Rank-Up-Magic Limited Barian's Force and subsequently summon Number C39: Utopia Ray V.
Astral: Crimson conqueror who unifies chaos and order, release the code's eternal seal and in one flash blow away light and darkness! Descend and arise! Rank Five! Number C39: Utopia Ray V!
    • Astral has summoned Utopia Ray V, and for a moment it looks like he'll beat Ruby too... but then Ruby activates a trap card that switches his monster to defense mode, letting her use a combo to bring forth an Evil Thorn and tribute it to deal 300 points of damage to him when he only has 50 LP left.
  • Chapter 19 - 'Blood-Soaked Bull vs Sun Dragon of Hell!'
    • Taiyang stops Adam from attacking Blake and Yang any further before challenging him to a duel.
      • After Adam summons Great Shogun Shien to attack the two girls, Taiyang uses his magic and barehands to destroy the monster before trapping Adam in a barrier with his Signer magic.
"Absolute Power Force," the hunting duelist calmly declared.
The crimson light burning over his arm blazed. His fingers closed and he crushed the samurai's helmet and head in his hand, the aura body crumbling to fragmented shards.
    • Adam gets both Shi En and Great Shogun Shien on the field at once, the former allowing him to cancel one of his foe's spell or trap cards per turn, while the latter limits the foe to one a turn, effectively cutting Taiyang off from using any Spell or Trap cards.
    • Taiyang uses Double Tuning to Synchro Summon Red Nova Dragon to finish Adam off.
Taiyang: The king and devil now merge here! Give the roar that created heaven and earth! Burn hotter than the sun and answer to me! Synchro Summon! Red Nova Dragon!
  • Chapters 20 & 21 - 'Exams - Take a Chance'
    • It's revealed that the limitation of there being only one Extra Monster Zone was something created by the Brothers during a fight against the "Great Invader" by altering Remnant's "Master Rule", and that by creating Link Monsters to bypass this Penny has literally done something that should be impossible.
    • While Jaune's attempt at XYZ Summoning fails and blows him back, he manages to get back up and continue the duel.
    • Jaune attacking Mercury to bait him out and reveal which of his facedowns is Backfire, allowing him to use Mystical Space Typhoon and destroy it.
    • Mercury has nearly defeated Jaune, only for him to try and XYZ summon again... and succeed, summoning Gagaga Cowboy and using his effect to win the duel.
  • Chapter 22 - 'Exams - The Storm to Come'
    • Coco lives up to her team's reputation as the best in Beacon, having at least six different decks that she's mastered. Best seen by the fact that she wins her duel with Nora by turning her Black Luster Soldier's own power against her with Harpie Phoenix Formation.
    • Ren managed to win his promotional duel quick enough to arrive at Nora's on her first turn. Shows he more than deserves his Obelisk Blue uniform.
    • Nora's apparently been working hard to learn how to Synchro Summon the one card her mother left her, and it's implied the only reason she hasn't succeeded is because the monster in question doesn't want to be summoned. The card in question? Thor!
      • On that note, Nora's failed summoning of Thor emits lightning and enough force to shatter the protective forcefield around the arena, on top of worrying both Coco and Doctor Oobleck. Nora, who was in the epicenter, gets right back up and laughs the whole thing off, nonchalantly saying she's dealt with it before. This also earns her Coco's respect the second year calling her by her actual name.
  • Chapter 23 - 'The Cat in The Cradle'
    • Blake finally works up the will to use her Fusions on her own terms, busting out Beast-Eyes and Brave-Eyes Pendulum Dragon to turn the tide against Yatsuhashi.
  • Chapters 24 & 25 - 'Ruby vs. Penny'
    • Pretty much the entire duel, as Ruby's attempt to get promoted all the way to Obelisk Blue result in her dueling Penny, who has been ordered by Ozpin not to hold back so as to draw out Ruby's magic. Specific highlights include:
      • Ruby having a fantastic first turn, playing through Penny's surprise use of Infinite Impermeance to ultimately get her opponent down to only two hundred life points by the end of the first round.
      • Penny strikes back by maneuvering around Ruby's defenses to summon Shootingcode, Transcode, and Excode Talker and nearly wipe out the Silver-Eyed Signer's entire field, at the same time revealing that her Link Monsters' lack of defense mode make them immune to Ruby's usual battle position changing tactics.
      • Ruby crystalizes a card she forged just last night and summons Baronne de Fleur, which Yang's POV reveals is connected to their mother Summer Rose, as she used Chevalier de Fleur.
  • Chapter 26 - 'The Investigation Begins'
    • Yang easily intimidates Junior and his goons for information, as they remember what happened the last time she was there.
    • Pyrrha shows up on Argus Chariot to save Blake from Ilia and demonstrates how she earned her reputation. On her first turn, she Xyz summons Number 86: Heroic Champion - Rhongomyniad with four Overlay Units, making it immune to battle destruction, doubling its stats, ensuring that her monster is protected from all other card effects, and preventing Ilia from Normal or Special Summoning on her first turn. On her next turn, she uses Sales Ban on her own monster, preventing it from losing any more Overlay Units, thus keeping all the previously mentioned effects aside from restricting Ilia from summoning monsters.
    • Ilia shows that she shouldn't be underestimated by using a combo to ensure that Amazoness Swords Woman's effect would deal 3000 damage to Pyrrha.
  • Chapter 27 - 'Invincible'
    • Pyrrha deems Ilia a strong enough opponent that she summons her Over One Hundred Number.
"I release the unappeased soul placed aboard the ark! Infinite in distance and unbound by death, a paragon of virtue to rise above the abyss where no light can reach and fulfill the duty to shepherd a new age! Xyz Summon! Rank Four! Number 101: Silent Honor ARK!"
    • It's revealed that Ilia is also in possession of an Over One Hundred Number and uses it against Pyrrha's own Over One Hundred Number.
"Angel of chaos with your heart frozen by tragedy! Let your frigid blade slice through the hatred that never wanes and make the monsters of order bleed for their sins! Show them how you smile! Xyz Summon! Rank Four! Number 103: Ragnazero!"
  • Chapters 28 & 29 - 'I Burn'
    • Yang is able to restart her heart after the shock collars activate by using her Semblance.
    • Despite Clear Wing Synchro Dragon refusing to be summoned and Junior rigging the underground duel against her, Yang is able to defeat Banesaw.
  • Chapters 30 & 31 - 'Dark Threads'
    • Ruby is able to hold her own in her first ever duel against a Dark Signer.
    • After learning that winning would result in Junior losing his soul, Ruby decides to Take a Third Option by beating Lil' Miss Malachite and using her magic to prevent Junior's death. When it seems like her efforts won't be enough, Astral lends a helping hand to ensure Junior's life is saved.
  • Chapters 32 - 'Starving'
    • Cinder demonstrates how strong she is by absolutely crushing Ruby, and that's when she's holding back her Fusion Monsters as she's dueling in front of witnesses.
  • Chapters 33 & 34 - 'Burning the Candle'
    • Yang shows Blake that she could've ended their duel on her second turn if it wasn't interrupted.
  • Chapters 35 & 36 - 'The Innocence of Youth'
    • Yang is finally able to summon Clear Wing Synchro Dragon, albeit through hardlight manifestation rather than aura manifestation.
    • Clear Wing and Odd-Eyes work together to forge Remnant's first Synchro Pendulum Monster.
Blake and Yang: Dragon with different-colored eyes! Gain shining wings and fly to the summit's garden of ecstasy! Synchro Summon! The dragon with joyous eyes shining with furious destruction! Level Eight! Odd-Eyes Wing Dragon!
  • Chapter 37 - 'I'm the One'
    • Emerald and Mercury demonstrate how well they've prepared for the best duelists Beacon has to offer by shutting down all of Coco and Yatsuhashi's plays.
    • Coco and Yatsuhashi reveal that they have more tricks hidden in their sleeves when they perform a Rank-Up Xyz Evolution and summon a Superheavy Samurai Link monster respectively.
