* InsidiousRumorMill: One of the ways the player can eliminate one rival for her ''sempai'''s affection is to start a vicious rumor mill leading her to being bullied to death.

** Many of the female characters are [[BuxomIsBetter extraordinarily well-endowed]]. Yan-chan can be too if you mess with her model.

** The Guidance Counselor was specifically designed with sex appeal in mind. Her character model is [[BuxomIsBetter very busty]] and [[HartmanHips gifted in other areas as well]], with a very short pencil skirt, shirt unbuttoned halfway down, pantyhose, and heels.

** [[PunnyName Mai Waifu]] is a girl with long [[RoseHairedSweetie pink hair]] and [[BuxomIsBetter large breasts]] who, according to Student Info, has many admirers. However, she has sworn her heart to an independent game developer overseas, ([[BlatantLies who isn't YandereDev, really]]). She's a reference to a [[https://twitter.com/YandereDev/status/654759197846802432 twitter conversation]] where the Dev claimed to be a pink-haired Japanese schoolgirl with large breasts in real life.

* TotallyEighteen: The game comes with a disclaimer that all of the characters are 18 or older regardless of what the game itself says, or even what [=YanDev=] has said in the past. This was done, at least in part, to get around laws that ban depicting sexualization of or violence against minors (most notably in Australia).

** The bright atmosphere, slice-of-life structure, and calm music constantly playing in the background certainly suggest that this is your standard DatingSim… and then we meet our VillainProtagonist, find out [[MurderTheHypotenuse what she's]] [[KillEmAll capable of]], learn [[TraumaCongaLine the backstories]] of some of the characters, and discover scattered hints at a dark, perhaps even supernatural conspiracy…

* KillEmAll:
** Quite literally in this case – the "Mission Mode"[[note]](mid-November 2016)[[/note]] builds added a debug command in the main game to "Kill All Students". Pressing it leads to ExactlyWhatItSaysOnTheTin… and also takes out the teachers.
** If you manage to kill ''everyone'' in the school (barring those you just can't kill such as Info-Chan and the Headmaster) without Senpai noticing in the first day, a special ending will play where Yan-chan kidnaps Senpai all to herself without competition.

** VillainProtagonist Ayano [[KillEmAll can murder]] and [[VideoGameCrueltyPotential bully her classmates]].

** Comes with the territory. Just how much is up to how the player does things. It's just as possible [[RemovingTheRival to dispatch your rivals non-lethally]], however, as it is to just get the [[KillEmAll Genocide Ending]].

* ZettaiRyouiki: Ayano, most of the rivals, every member of the Student Council except one, and a significant number of the other female students wear thigh-high stockings, enough that it could be considered [=YandereDev's=] personal AuthorAppeal.

[[spoiler:The succubus in the Void Room has breasts that move up and down as she breathes.]] Many fans have expressed hope/desire that if the game gets enough of a budget for new character models, there will be jiggle. [=YandereDev=] – known to be a lover of large bouncy breasts – stated that he tried to implement it on the current character models, but the results fell into the UnintentionalUncannyValley. * TwoGirlsToATeam: Most clubs have three male members and two female members. The only exceptions are the Gaming Club (which has three female members and two male members), the Gardening Club, The Light Music Club, the Student Council, the GangOfBullies (all of which are female), the Sports Club and the Delinquents (both of which [[TheSmurfettePrinciple only have one girl, their respective leader]]). This shows up yet again in 1980s mode, with the sole exceptions being the Light Music Club, which is all-female, and the Student Council, which is all-male.
* TroubledFetalPosition: In the case of ghe Basu sisters, as well as Osana and Raibaru, killing the person they are the closest to (or otherwise removing them from their life) will result in them sitting in a position with their knees pulled to their face.

** Using mods [[https://youtu.be/n-aWYb3R11g?t=6m or rapid-fire teleportation in the debug builds]] to glitch into the Info Club room results in Info-chan shouting at you to "GetOut" before resetting the week.

** The player normally can't enter Info-chan's room, as the doors are locked. If the player hacks to enter, Info-chan will angrily say "Get. Out." before crashing the game.

** [[TooDumbToLive Nobody in their right mind]] would [[HoistByHisOwnPetard walk into their own electrified booby trap]]. If you do so, [[SurprisinglyRealisticOutcome you get electrocuted into a coma]].

* SurprisinglyRealisticOutcome:
** As nice of a person as Senpai is, [[EverybodyHasStandards even he has his limits]]. If he sees Yan-chan being creepy (such as openly fawning over him for too long or being visibly insane) or catches her red-handed, he'll never accept her and it's GameOver.
** Seeing as she's a rather small teenage girl, Yan-chan cannot physically overpower adults, so trying to murder [[BadassTeacher a teacher, who are all trained in self-defense]], will go [[CurbStompBattle about as well as you may expect]]. This also applies to trying to take down trained martial artists. Yan-chan will have to significantly boost her Physical Education stats before she can do that. And even then, [[DumbMuscle if Yan-chan has no idea what she's doing]] [[note]]illustrated through a minigame akin to ''VideoGame/{{Hitman}}''[[/note]], they still overpower her through technique.
** If a lot of students die, the game will become more difficult – people's lines-of-sight will increase, they'll react more quickly to Yan-chan's actions, and they'll generally become more paranoid. Murder as many as you like, but don't think that it'll go unnoticed by the school.
** Being late will affect Ayano's Study Points. The tardier she is, the more the available study points will decrease, progressively dropping from five (on-time) to a minimum of one. Doing certain activities (like torturing a prisoner or reading manga at night) will make her arrive at school an hour later than normal, which isn't technically late, but you pretty much have to go straight to class.
** While [[LaughingMad laughing insanely]] will restore Yan-chan's SanityMeter, people do react to this, so she has to be careful when and where she does it.
** You can spread rumors about a student, and people will bully them so much that [[DrivenToSuicide they may even commit suicide]]. Doing this will make you less popular as well, because most students (aside from the Bullies) frown on malicious gossip, and you'll get a reputation as a rumormonger.
** Students ''will'' notice if you're acting suspicious, giving you a reputation penalty. You have the option to "apologize," which makes Ayano come up with an excuse, but it only lessens the penalty. They'll also talk if they see you commit a murder and get away with it, which steadily decreases your reputation.
** If you try to take photos of certain people, they will be suspicious of you and wonder why you're trying to take their picture. Others, mainly the Social Butterfly personalities, will just smile and pose for you.
** If you plant a lost ring in someone else's bookbag, but then forget to report them for the "theft", they'll just return it to its owner, who will make sure not to lose it in the future, preventing you from trying this tactic again.
** If you steal the test answer sheet (to copy it and plant the copy on a rival to frame her for cheating), but then fail to return the original to the Faculty Room before the end of the day or report "cheating" to the guidance counselor, the teacher will realize something's up and keep her answer sheets under lock-&-key for the rest of the game, preventing you from trying this tactic again.
** As mentioned above under PoliceAreUseless, despite finding Ayano's behavior suspicious, they will let her go if there isn't enough evidence to convict her, mostly out of fear of causing a scandal and embarrassing themselves for trying to arrest a seemingly innocent girl.
** Some [=NPCs=] have the "Spiteful" persona. This means that when they see Yan-chan murder someone they don't like, they approve of her actions and promise to stay silent. Afterwards, however, they want nothing to do with Yan-chan and refuse to speak to her, as they don't want to be pinned as an accomplice. When these students are with at least three other living students and see Yan-chan commit murder, they ''will'' join the others in stopping her, as self-preservation outweighs their hatred for the murdered student (after all, they too are in danger from Yan-chan).
** The Headmaster knows about [[spoiler:Yan-chan's mother]] and so has his suspicions of the girl even if he doesn't have immediate evidence. Give an excuse to act upon his suspicions, and he will do so. If Ayano tries to attack him, he will [[spoiler:pull out a taser and fry her into a coma]].
** When sent to the Guidance Counselor, coming up with a weak excuse, using the same excuse twice, or [[EscortDistraction flirting with her]] will get you suspended. Misbehaving too many times will get you expelled. Threatening the guidance counselor will ''instantly'' result in expulsion. [[TooDumbToLive Did you really think threatening an authority figure would go well?]]

* TimeStandsStill: The Witch Mode allows Ayano to stop time after calling "Time Stop!", which stops time, and starts it up when calling "Time Start." However, items like the school gate can still be activated and move. Colors are inverted when time is stopped.
* TooAwesomeToUse: Wearing a mask and using the edge of the rooftop are very powerful aids to getting away with murder. The mask will conceal your face, meaning that you can commit murder in front of witnesses and get away with it as long as you're not aprehended or Senpai doesn't see you (in which case he will run up to you and rip off the mask), and the rooftop railing is a place to push students over the edge, which kills them without producing any fingerprint or DNA evidence. However, both of these will only work once. Murdering while wearing a mask will result in masks being banned, and a railing death will result in a ten-foot-high fence being erected (if the school determines that the person died from falling off the building; if that doesn't appear to be the case, or Yan-chan managed to hide the body, then the railing stays as it is).

* TrashLanding: Notable aversion. Yan-chan can position a dumpster just so, so that a student she pushes off the roof will land in it. [[SurprisinglyRealisticOutcome they still die.]] (The reason for doing this is that it makes it possible to hide the body by covering it up with more trash.)

** Raibaru Fumetsu — Budo's mentor and [[TheRival Osana's]] unofficial bodyguard — takes this UpToEleven. ''Any'' attempt to attack Raibaru, murder someone in her presence, or carry a corpse past her '''[[CurbStompBattle will]]''' [[CurbStompBattle end]] with Ayano firmly pinned to the ground and her arm broken in at ''least'' two places. Her Strength stat is listed as 9 (higher than any other student in school), and bumping up another student's stats to match hers will give them the same abilities.

** [[spoiler:Snap Mode begins with Ayano literally shattering the GameOver screen, and goes UpToEleven from there. The view is entirely red and black. None of the normal HUD elements are present, replaced by short commands. Running is replaced by an OminousVisualGlitch skipping you forward, and murder animations are sped up the more you kill. If you take too much time without finding a knife and then killing Senpai, the screen will fill with static and you'll be teleported to your target.]]

** How the game started in the original intro. As befitting the cliché, in the game proper, you can give Yan-chan a slice of toast constantly hanging from her mouth... or if that's not enough, [[UpToEleven an entire toaster.]] There's also a "No Running In the Halls" poster at school that features an anime girl with a piece of toast in her mouth.

* UncannyValley: An InUniverse meta variation occurred not with people, but with clothes. [=YandereDev=] mentioned that, prior to a programming breakthrough in May 2016, he could add assets ''not'' associated with the "Aoi" model to the game – other articles of clothing, for example – but they would glitch when the characters moved. He gave the example of wearing a pair of pants that would not move with the body of the person wearing them, and that it gave everything an unnatural and eerie feeling.

*** Using an EasterEgg like [[VideoGame/FZero Falcon]] [[VideoGame/SuperSmashBros Mode]] or Manga/{{One Punch|Man}} Mode on someone will send them flying (their bodies will be grossly contorted for a couple of frames the instant the punch connects). If you're inside, chances are the body will hit a wall or floor, at which point the corpse will get stuck and spaz out.

Grabbing the weapon bag and the bookbag by Ryoba's locker, getting the car battery from the storage room and hiding it inside the bookbag, filling a bucket with water, grabbing the fire extinguisher and hiding it in the weapon bag, pouring the water in front of the school's entrance, [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_tE2uTHvIfQ wait until a student steps on it, and throwing the car battery so that student is electroucted to death]], with only one other student witnessing the murder rather than the dead body. Upon seeing the student dropping dead, the Journalist runs out of the school and calls the police. Then Hatsune waits until Kaguya sees the body, flees the school alongside Jokichi (who had ran away before her), and simply just kills Kaguya with the fire extinguisher, with zero witnesses whatsoever. Even better, Hatsune found ''yet another way'' of killing Kaguya without having to kill another student. By grabbing a fire extinguisher, hiding it inside a weapon bag, getting close to Kaguya and Jokichi, wait until the Journalist is close enough, interrupt their conversation, quickly go to the western wall of the entrance to distract the gym teacher, quickly running to Kaguya and catching her attention yet again by showing her the fire extinguisher after she has been separated from Jokichi, quickly close the school's gate to force any other students to take the alternate door, wait until Kaguya is about to cross it and killing her with the extinguisher. Because Ryoba freezes in place after she has killed someone in the school's walkway so the Journalist can aprehend her she's stuck in place... but that's precisely what Hatsune exploits: the gym teacher notices the dead body, but doesn't aprehend Ryoba, and the Journalist ''is stuck inside the school's gate''. After this Hatsune just waits until the day ends and esentially gets away with murdering Kaguya. [=YandereDev=] tried to fix this exploit by stopping the game from preventing Ryoba from running if she kills someone while the Journalist is far away from her instead of freezing her in place altogether.
*** For the June 20th, 2022 patch, Hatsune repeats the same stragety as before, but now crouches after the gym teacher sees Kaguya's body, with the Journalist ''still stuck in the school's gate''. She procceeds to get in trouble with Joze, the member of the Student Council that patrols outside the school, and gets sent to the Guidance Counselor to end the day quickly. Hatsune then found a quicker way to do this, by simply just walking away and pulling out the fire extinguisher from the weapon bag so that Joze sends her to the Guidance Counselor way faster than before.
