** It's also worth mentioning that when the show first premiered, Time Warner, Cartoon Network's parent company at the time, were in a dispute with Dish Network that temporarily led to that and other Time Warner-owned networks being removed from the channel. * QuietlyCancelled: Despite the utter failure of "Rise of Lyric", the cartoon did well enough to get a second season as well as another game attempt with "Fire & Ice". However "Fire & Ice" didn't do well enough sales-wise and, combined with ''Cartoon Network'''s atrocious scheduling for the show (the first season was put in an early morning slot and the second got bounced to their "Boomerang" channel, a channel that very few have), once the second season finished it's run, there has been no word since from Sega if the show would continue. Considering a new Sonic series, ''Sonic Prime'', was announced for Netflix. Many took it that meant ''Sonic Boom'', both the show and franchise, were done.

* ActorAllusion: When Sonic communicates with the team to assure his landing, Tails replies with "Roger". Knuckles [[ComicallyMissingThePoint doesn't know who "Roger" is]], but Sonic, with his voice temporarily lowered to what is presumably his voice actor's normal range, replies that Tails was referring to [[Creator/RogerCraigSmith himself]].

** Lyric was stated to be a darker and more foreboding villain than Eggman. That part is mostly true, but at best he's a GenericDoomsdayVillain.

* GenreKiller: ''Rise of Lyric'' was the first attempt at a more exploration-based ''Sonic'' game since ''VideoGame/SonicUnleashed''... and considering the game's reception, very likely the last as well. Notably, Sonic Team head Takashi Iizuka said in a 2017 interview that the chances of the franchise ever revisiting the ''VideoGame/SonicAdventure'' style of gameplay are fairly minimal. However, the darker storyline of those games was revisited in ''VideoGame/SonicForces'', to mixed results.

* KeepCirculatingTheTapes: Subverted for all but one issue. Archie collected issues 1 through 7, as well as issue 11, across two trade paperback releases. Issues 8 through 10, which were all parts of the ''Comic Book / Sonic the Hedgehog/Mega Man: Worlds Unite'' crossover event, were instead collected into said crossover's own dedicated graphic novel collections... every issue except issue 10, that is, as the third and final instalment ended up going down with the entire series when SEGA pulled the plug. To make matters more difficult, for obvious reasons, all of these graphic novel collections are now out of print, and even if new ''Sonic Boom'' reprints were to come about, the legalities surrounding the aforementioned crossover renders a reprinting of that coveted tenth issue as much less likely.

** Creator/CartoonNetwork barely promoted the show and, as with ''WesternAnimation/TransformersRobotsInDisguise'' and ''Anime/{{Pokemon}}'', stuck it in the Saturday morning 7am/6am slot, when not many people are awake. However, not only was the show renewed for a second season, reruns received a much better time slot on Creator/{{Boomerang}}, where it ended up moving to anyways. Make of that what you will. Keep in mind that Boomerang is not carried by major cable systems such as Comcast, Charter, and Cox.

* TrollingCreator: Alan Denton, a writer of the show, is very much aware how dead (and mostly unavailable) Boomerang is to many that the ratings are pretty low...so he takes ''advantage'' of it by getting way too many philosophical conversations and one too many GettingCrapPastTheRadar because he knows very well not many children will get it (since not many can normally see the show anyway) and he can ''get away with it all''. This has gone on to making the show very much infamous and enjoyable.

* FranchiseKiller:
** Despite the abysmal sales of ''Rise of Lyric'' and ''Shattered Crystal'', they pressed on with one more game, ''Fire and Ice''. Sales-wise, it sold just as poorly, if not moreso, and ended up being the last game in the short-lived spinoff series.
** ''Rise of Lyric'' and ''Shattered Crystal'' arguably did this to the entire ''Boom'' sub-franchise before it even got going. While the cartoon did manage to keep the ''Boom'' side going for a few years after and was reasonably successful, it was clear even that wouldn't be enough to shake off the games' abysmal (or in the case of ''Crystal'', below-average) reputation and the wider shadow it ended up casting onto the entire sub-franchise as a whole (Given that ''Fire and Ice'''s trailer received tons of dislikes and mass backlash from the fandom when it was first unveiled at the time due in part to ''Rise of Lyric'' and it's terrible reception, even if it's not a sequel to the game, but to the more well received ''Shattered Crystal''). Despite attempts to keep the brand alive via the cartoon and a sequel to ''Sonic Dash'' themed around ''Boom'', by late 2017, Sega would ultimately drop the sub-franchise entirely to focus on the main Modern and Classic Sonic brands instead.
