* FrameUp: At Robyn's campaign party, Tyrian is hidden in the crowd. When Watts kills the lights, Tyrian massacres several people while Watts manipulates the security footage to make look like Penny did it. When the lights come on, Tyrian is gone and Penny is standing on the stage with her blades drawn. Although Ruby sees Tyrian before the lights go out, and is able to tell Ren and Nora who really did it, everyone else believes that it was Penny.

Villain Exit Stage Left misuse (it's for when villains escape after being defeated); Unwitting Instigator Of Doom misuse (the kiss doesn't have anything to do with what happened); Shipper On Deck misuse (Nora and Ren are using Blake and Yang as a proxy through which they debate their own relationship); Oblivious To Love misuse (Ren isn't oblivious to Nora's feelings, he states he's too worried to act on it); Unresolved Sexual Tension misuse (if there's a Big Damn Kiss, it's not 'unresolved'); Spanner In The Works misuse (the trope is for when someone blunders into screwing up the plans, not for a villain who successfully executes his plans); Not What It Looks Like misuse (this is a trope that's usually played for humour, it's not for when someone has been deliberately set up, that's Frame Up)

* AndThenWhat: Ren points out that, for all the heroes have been focused on whether or not to tell Ironwood about Salem's immortality, they still don't have a plan to actually beat after the world finds out she exists.

In one fell swoop, they created additional unrest in Mantle, framed Penny (and by extension Ironwood) for the attack, and the whole thing was a distraction so that Watts could hack the election results without anyone noticing. In one fell swoop, they created additional incite unrest in Mantle, framed Mantle that rests entirely on their understanding of how Penny (and by extension Ironwood) for the attack, behaves and the whole thing was a distraction so that fights. While Watts could hack the election results without anyone noticing. The only thing that didn't go according electronically manipulates everything from a remote location, he uses technology and security of footage of Penny's fighting style to plan was Ruby recognizing guide Tyrian's massacre of people at Robyn's event. He allows Penny to see Tyrian as just long enough for her to draw her swords before removing her ability to see him. When Tyrian attacks Fiona and Robyn, Penny rushes onto the true perpetrator, thus giving Ironwood warning stage to help them. Tyrian mutters that Salem's goons have infiltrated she's exactly where he wants her and departs, his job done. When Watts restores the lights to the room, there are multiple dead and dying individuals, and Penny standing on the stage with all her swords drawn, looking like the culprit. Their tracks are then covered by the Grimm that swarm in to attack Mantle and are actively working against him.due to the heightened negative emotions.

When she sees Tyrian approach Robyn, she knocks the Huntress out of the way of his apparent strike. However, Tyrian retreats, and when the lights come on, it looks like Penny assaulted Robyn.
* ObliviousToLove: During their argument, it becomes evident Ren is still somewhat oblivious of Nora's feelings, as while he thinks their argument is still about Blake and Yang's relationship, Nora has made it obvious she's also referring to their own relationship. It takes Nora giving him a BigDamnKiss to get it through to him.

* ShipperOnDeck: Nora thinks that Yang and Blake have become more then friends.
* SpannerInTheWorks: Watts, Tyrian and Jacques throw a huge one to the heroes. Watts rigs the election at the very last second to hand victory to Jacques, then cuts the power in the building Robyn's rally was held. Tyrian then murders a number of Robyn's supporters before the power's restored (and narrowly misses killing Robyn herself), and Watts successfully frames the attacks on Penny and uploads it to the public. Only Marrow and the heroes present have any clue about what just happened - and Mantle promptly gets swarmed by Manticore Grimm as the episode ends.

* UnresolvedSexualTension: Finally acknowledged in-universe for both Bumblebee and Renora. Ren and Nora argue over whether Blake and Yang have feelings for each other, but it soon becomes clear they’re talking about their own relationship.
%%* UnwittingInstigatorOfDoom: Nora kissing Ren led to Tyrian being able to go and kill people without Ren being able to sense him.

Both Sides Have A Point misuse (it's for someone who is struggling to make a decision because both sides of the argument are making good points; it's not an audience trope). Cassandra Truth misuse (the situation was so dangerous, they had to get out of there — they didn't explain what actually happened beyond a couple of vague and rushed 'didn't do it' comments). Curb Stomp Battle misuse (this wasn't a battle or a fight of any kind; it was an ambush massacre); From Bad To Worse shoehorn (the Penny frame and Jacques winning happen at the same time). Handshake Substitute misuse (it's not a situation where a handshake would be the normal or expected gesture); Hero With Bad Publicity misuse (it's not this episode where that will come into play — the right trope is already on the page: Frame Up). Hope Spot misuse (the volume hasn't created a situation where a Hope Spot would kick in, what's in play here are people in-universe thinking Robyn's result is a Foregone Conclusion). Cleaned up Lampshade Hanging for misusing potholed tropes and covering the scene inacurrately (Ren isn't saying feelings are unrequited, he's saying that one is read to act on their feelings while the other is too worried to do so). Lesser Of Two Evils misuse (if Ironwood had to choose between Robyn and Jacques, it would be this trope; as he's just commenting on something that's beyond his control, it's not this trope).

* BigDamnKiss: Nora gives one to Ren at Robyn Hill's political rally to snap him out of a depressive episode.
* BlackmailBackfire: Subverted. The early election results make everyone think this to be the case for Jacques, but there's another step to Watts's plan...

** Ironwood worries about Robyn winning the election as while she's better than Jacques she's still all too likely cause problems for his plans. Ruby tries to convince him that she could be brought in on said plans, which could win him an ally and also help with tensions in Mantle.
** Marrow and Robyn get into a debate at the party. Marrow is right about how such an event could easily become a powder keg and it's implied that he's actually right about Robyn and her group breaking the law. Robyn makes a valid defense that the law in Atlas isn't equal to everyone and that societal corruption is rather prevalent in the kingdom, which Marrow fully agrees with, but points out breaking the law is still a bad precedent moving forward.
* CassandraTruth: Ruby, Penny, and Marrow all profess Penny's innocence after Tyrian's attack is blamed on her, but neither Robyn nor her supporters want to hear any of it.

* FromBadToWorse: As if Tyrian causing a massacre to happen wasn't bad enough, he and Watts subsequently frame Penny for causing it, turning her into a pariah. The combined negativity from said massacre, Penny being the believed culprit, and Jacques winning the election attracts swarms of Manticores into Mantle.
* HandshakeSubstitute: When Marrow ask why Ruby is at the rally, she answers that she's hangin' out with Penny before initiating a fist bump with her. Unfortunately, Penny, being made of metal and being very enthusiastic about it, quickly makes Ruby regret it.
* HeroWithBadPublicity: As a result of Watts's machinations, Penny becomes one. The ending further implies that Robyn has extended her hate towards Penny's allies just as much.
* HopeSpot: Things seem to be looking up, with Robyn still leading in the polls, Nora finally giving Ren a BigDamnKiss, and Ruby getting to hang out with Penny and Marrow. Then Ruby spots Tyrian amidst the crowd InTheHood, and before she can warn anyone in time, Watts cuts the lights. Tyrian than proceeds to massacre many of Robyn's supporters as Watts rigs the election so that Jacques wins, as well as hacks Penny's optics so she can't see Tyrian.
