** Hector confides to Eliwood in their B-Support that he had a bad dream about Eliwood's son being romantically involved with Hector's daughter and asks Eliwood to make sure that doesn't happen, alluding to Roy and Lilina's relationship in ''The Binding Blade''. The thing is, this all took place ''years'' before Roy and Lilina were even born, and when we see Hector ([[SuddenSequelDeathSyndrome briefly]]) in ''The Binding Blade'', his last request is for Roy to take care of Lilina, showing that he's mellowed out after getting to know Roy for real as [[NiceGuy an upstanding young man]] [[LikeFatherLikeSon like his father.]] And while some interaction ''does'' shows up in ''VideoGame/FireEmblemHeroes'', Roy's romance (or not) with Lilina is only slightly hinted and although Hector knows, he doesn't mind.

** It seems Peach may not be able to live down what happens in the end of ''VideoGame/SuperMarioOdyssey''. Many paint her as [[spoiler:an UngratefulBitch for rejecting Mario ''and'' Bowser's proposals, leaving them in tears and seemingly ditching them on the moon while hijacking the Odyssey]], even though Peach can be heard calling out "[[spoiler:Let's go home!]]" with Mario and Bowser following her command, and [[JustifiedTrope in her defense]], she only really rejected their proposals due to their brash methods of proposing to her literally amounting to them shoving flowers in her face. Conversely, this also puts Mario and Bowser at blame for acting very selfish in regards to their affections for Peach. Unlike her, however, they're in the process of living that down, though Mario will have to carry the stigma of [[JustFriends getting friendzoned]] for a long time despite Peach's rejection not being anywhere nearly as terminal (this very game shows in the postgame that the two are still on good terms, and the ShipTease is resumed in the ending of ''VideoGame/SuperMarioMaker2'').

** At the start of ''VideoGame/FireEmblemEngage'', Alear, a Divine Dragon who has awakened from a 1,000-year slumber, is heading to Lythos Castle with their stewards Vander, Clanne and Framme, when some undead foes called the Corrupted appear, resulting in Alear ordering her party to flee until Clanne and Framme's attacking the Corrupted forces Alear to fight. This, along with Alear's fear of the Corrupted, resulted in some players bashing Alear as a coward, despite the fact that Alear rarely displays any sort of cowardly behavior. In fact, not only was there no good reason to engage with the Corrupted in that situation, but there were so many that only Lumera's arrival saved Alear and their companions.

*** The game itself suffers from this when it comes to some of the supports, since many of the ones involving the Lythos and Firene cast are relatively one-note and uninteresting. The supports get more interesting once the cast of the other nations join, but unfortunately, that's also when the player starts having more units than they have deployment slots, and getting units that tend to outdo early game units (e.g. Alcryst compared to Etie), making it harder to see many of the supports.

About fanon exaggerating aspect of characters. In-universe, RL, and non-characters don't count. Any YMMV can't be played with.

* ''VideoGame/KnightsOfTheOldRepublicIITheSithLords'':
** In-game example: The Jedi Exile is there when the planet Peragus is destroyed (depending on the player's choices, s/he could even be responsible for it in attempting to destroy their pursuers). Regardless of whether or not the Exile is actually responsible, it seems everyone and their Twi'lek dancer is reminding them about it. On one occasion where you're allowed to pick a line about how it wasn't the Exile's fault, the character's response is that of course it was, since the Exile chose to go to Peragus. Sadly, there is no option to comment on how the Exile ''didn't'' choose to go to Peragus and was only even anywhere near there because s/he was drugged and rendered unconscious by an assassin droid hired by that same character in the first place.
** The Exile was also responsible for the destruction of Malachor V in the backstory; some characters seem to extrapolate this and Peragus and come to the conclusion that blowing up planets is some kind of regular habit for her/him.
** An out-of-universe example happens with the Disciple. He's already a bit of TheScrappy, since his DistaffCounterpart on male playthroughs has a much more developed backstory while his own story was rushed in at the last minute, and he's the non-preferred member of the quasi-love triangle between himself, the Exile, and Atton. He has a major moment of {{Sarcasm Blind}}ness on Nar Shaddaa, which is all that most players seem to remember apart from being a "Jedi fanboy". This leaves out the fact that he was smart enough to figure out Revan's ''real'' plan for the galaxy, that he makes several criticisms of the Jedi, and the one he's fanboying is the one they ''kicked out''. Nor does he accept [[spoiler:the Council's decision that she's a menace to the Force]].
* Francis has this in ''VideoGame/Left4Dead'' during the Crash Course campaign. Ever since Zoey shot the (infected) helicopter pilot that got them away from Mercy Hospital and they wound up crashing, Francis will take every moment he can get to remind Zoey of what she did.

* ''VideoGame/Superman64'':
** Aside from its reputation as one of the worst games of all time, gameplay-wise it is mostly known as "that game where you fly through rings". There is actually a bit more to the game than that, including punching enemies, navigating mazes, blowing away tornadoes and, of course, {{Escort Mission}}s. Not that that's saying much, given the horrible controls that make most people give up on the game in frustration.
** Creator/TitusSoftware existed from 1985–2005 and developed many games, one of them being ''VideoGame/{{Prehistorik}}'', but most people only remember them as "that company that developed ''Superman 64''"[[note]]Most of the poor decisions were in fact because of [[ExecutiveMeddling ridiculous mandates]] by Creator/WarnerBros and [[Creator/DCComics DC]] e.g. the virtual world setting came about because they didn't want Superman to hurt "real" people, and in fact Titus' E3 1998 demo showed a very different game that looked and played ''superior'' to the "[[ObviousBeta finished]]" product before Warner/DC mandates screwed them over[[/note]].
** The game has doomed Superman's video game legacy as an unofficial mascot of TheProblemWithLicensedGames. Its poor critical reception ensured that [[FranchiseKiller a new]] ''[[FranchiseKiller Superman]]'' [[FranchiseKiller game would not be made for a long time]]. It doesn't help that later ''Superman'' games have also suffered from TheProblemWithLicensedGames.

* Apart from being the first FBI Director to be fired, William S. Sessions has a more niche realm of notoriety: if you went to an arcade in the late '80s and '90s, you couldn't come and go without happening across the "Winners Don't Use Drugs" screen during a random game's attract mode. And because his name appeared on the screens more often than not, particularly on games made before 1993, Sessions became the face of the gaming front for the War on Drugs.

But what's not understandable is that the Mysidians keep cursing Cecil and his party even after he's become a Paladin, purged himself of darkness, started fighting alongside them, revealed to be TheChosenOne, and has saved the world no less than twice.

to:

*** The people of Mysidia are still portrayed as UngratefulTownsfolk among ''Final Fantasy'' fans for their behavior. Cecil attacks Mysidia at the beginning of the game under the impostor King Baron's command, realizes that the excuse of JustFollowingOrders doesn't cut it, and that he needs to be better than that. When Cecil returns later in the story, everyone in Mysidia hates Cecil while he's walking around in Dark Knight armour. Some people berate him, others scream in fear, and some of them even [[BalefulPolymorph [[ForcedTransformation curse Cecil with status effects]]. Considering what Cecil did last time he was there, this reaction is understandable. But what's not understandable is that the Mysidians keep cursing Cecil and his party even after he's become a Paladin, purged himself of darkness, started fighting alongside them, revealed to be TheChosenOne, and has saved the world no less than twice.

** Charizard is never going to escape mockery from the fandom for being a fire-breathing dragon that isn't a Dragon-type, even after it got a Mega Evolution that makes it part-Dragon. Even moreso when ''VideoGame/PokemonSunAndMoon'' made ''Exeggutor'' of all Pokémon a Dragon-type without needing to Mega Evolve. Charizard will also never be allowed to forget that, despite having a badass appearance and desirable battle stats, it also has a crippling weakness to Stealth Rock. Stealth Rock damages Pokémon as they switch in - specifically, with Rock-type damage, which Charizard takes ''[[ElementalRockPaperScissors four-times damage]]'' from. Charizard enters the battle, and then dies instantly. Oops.
** Yungoos and its evolution Gumshoos, the Ratatta-esque line of ''Sun and Moon'', will forever be known as the Pokémon who look like UsefulNotes/DonaldTrump.
** Parasect is best known in the fandom as the Pokémon that's useful only for countering Alakazam, and little else. It didn't help that its Spore-Leech Life combination was the hardest hit that could land on a Psychic-type Pokémon in Gen I due to a type effectiveness glitch involving Ghost-type Pokémon.
** In some cases, a Pokémon's infamy could have been taken into consideration for removal when Dexit infamously happened with Gen VIII[[note]]Ironically, most of the below examples would be added into the game via its expansions, with Porygon and Kadabra being added in Isle of Armor and Jynx being added in Crown Tundra.[[/note]]:
*** Jynx is almost certain to be forever overshadowed by the controversy that [[UnfortunateCharacterDesign its original blackface-esque design]] generated, with the Virtual Console release of ''Yellow'' altering its sprite, anime episodes with the old design being edited or cut entirely, and Jynx's lack of prominence since then.[[labelnote:*]]To the point where Gen IV gave Electabuzz and Magmar (who form an unofficial FireIceLightning trio with Jynx and got pre-evolutions alongside it in Gen II) evolutions, but Jynx didn't get anything, and even the entire trio was among the Mons jettisoned in Gen VIII[[/labelnote]]
*** Porygon and its evolutions will never live down being the focus and namesake of the [[Recap/PokemonS1E38ElectricSoldierPorygon infamous anime episode]] that sent hundreds of children in Japan to the hospital with seizures and other ill-effects because of EpilepticFlashingLights. This incident caused the show to go on hiatus for a few months and nearly snuffed out the still-fledgling franchise. The series was able to recover eventually, but the episode was banned from ever being rerun (even after it was edited to tone down the dangerous flashing lights), and no members of the Porygon family were ever shown in the anime again. Nintendo clearly still remembers the fallout from the "Porygon Episode", because its entire evolutionary family was unavailable in Gen VIII. This is in spite of the fact that, in the episode, Porygon didn't even cause the flashing lights; they were instead caused by an anti-virus program sent by Nurse Joy that targeted both the heroes and the villains, with the most infamous shot being from Pikachu blowing up two of its missiles with an electric shock.
*** Kadabra is best known for triggering a lawsuit from Uri Geller over similarities between names and alleged abilities. This got Kadabra ExiledFromContinuity in phases: first, the Trading Card Game booted it, then it hasn't appeared at all in the anime since 2005, a ''VideoGame/PokemonRanger'' game featured Abra and Alakazam but not Kadabra, and ultimately the entire Abra line was among the victims of Dexit, and the scuttlebug was that the prior claims by Geller factored into its initial exclusion from Gen VIII. Perhaps not coincidentally, its return in the Isle of Armor indicated that Geller was ultimately coming to terms with his bad reputation among the fandom and finally apologized for causing the franchise so much trouble, culminating in the return of Kadabra to the TCG.
*** Chatot is best known for being banned in tournaments due to vulgar trolls and its selling point being nerfed as a result. Unlike the above three, Chatot never even appeared in Gen VIII's ''expansions''.
