** The Piantas in ''VideoGame/SuperMarioSunshine'' also suffer from this due to their lack of hesitation in arresting Mario on suspicion of dirtying Isle Delfino, despite that the ones who hold it against him are limited to a few of them scattered throughout Delfino Plaza. The majority of them throughout the plaza and the game’s other areas aren’t shown to bear him any ill will for his supposed crimes, yet the Piantas as a whole are usually written off based on the actions of only a few.

* Matt Furniss is a composer who was active throughout UsefulNotes/The16bitEraOfConsoleVideoGames, and contributed to many well-regarded soundtracks across multiple consoles and home computers. He also, as a joke, included [[https://tcrf.net/Mad_Professor_Mariarti a hidden message]] in the files for the UsefulNotes/{{Amiga}} game ''Mad Professor Mariarti'' in which he called the reader a [[PrecisionFStrike fucker]] and threatened to break their legs if they tried to hack the game. Guess which of these things he's more well known for across the internet.

** Yoshi is often thought of as a mindless monster who eats people, gets ridden on all the time, and [[PokemonSpeak speaks like a Pokémon]]. However, the earlier games have shown that he is kind, intelligent, and perfectly capable of speech, and ever since the [[UsefulNotes/NintendoGameCube GameCube]] era, he has stood in a pose that makes him practically impossible to ride.

** One has to really pity Dhaos. He was a fairly badass villain with a reasonably understandable motive and tragic backstory, but thanks to the UsefulNotes/GameBoyAdvance port of ''VideoGame/TalesOfPhantasia'' having poor English voice acting, he is never '''ever''' going to live down reacting to Edward D. Morrison's Indignation with a poorly delivered "What the heck is that?!" Apparently that's all he can ever say or do. Dhaos and Indignation in itself is also a case as, yes, in his original game it did force him to retreat and in the first boss battle with him it can end the battle early if his health is low enough, but in the fandom its gotten to the point where it apparently can kill him in one hit. In most games he's in (As well as his expy [[VideoGame/TalesOfEternia Sekundes]]) it only merely does a lot of damage to him and will only trigger a special scene if his health is low enough (for example, see Rita's Thunder Blade on him in the [=PS3=] version of ''Vesperia''.)

** There was a period of time where Nintendo hinted at Luigi having a dark secret, as well as having him be mind-controlled into a FaceHeelTurn by the main villain of ''VideoGame/SuperPaperMario'', spurring on a deluge of fanfics and [=ROMhacks=] painting him as being driven to villainy by his jealousy of Mario, despite his portrayal in later games as a ReluctantHero who very much loves his brother and would rather just stay at home and let him save the day instead (his battles with King Boo were because the ghost kidnapped Mario).

to:

** Mario also gets a hard time from some fans, mainly Luigi fans because of Luigi's status in the franchise, but mostly because of his victory scene from Mario Power Tennis, where Mario ends up stepping on his brother's foot, which is heavily disliked because of what happens, people often talk about it, and it's also part of the ''Mario is Mental'' theory. Luigi is very popular with the fanbase, possibly even more than Mario, but in-universe, [[StuckInTheirShadow he's overshadowed by Mario even though they are just as heroic]], [[SuccessfulSiblingSyndrome he's much less popular than him in the Mushroom Kingdom, struggling to stand out from him]], he [[DudeWheresMyRespect doesn't get the same amount of credit as Mario for what they do]] and [[ButtMonkey he is the designated butt of the joke when it comes to the franchise's humour or with people getting his name wrong and not remembering it]]. Because of this, he is nowhere as respected as his brother, no matter what he does, being treated as a borderline NoRespectGuy by several characters, including many Toads, who treat him rather coldly and are unimpressed by him. Not all Toads think this of him, but many don't think that he is a true hero. Luigi's status in the franchise causes his fans to feel for him and be defensive of him, and especially with the combination between this and the scene from Mario Power Tennis, some accuse Mario of being a [[BigBrotherBully bad older brother who dominates and humiliates Luigi to make him seem inferior on purpose]], wants to be in the spotlight all the time, which got worse from 2013, not only because of the "Mario is Mental" theory, but many animations, fanworks and videos on Youtube like the Dorkly animations have the tendency to portray Mario as an unlikeable jerk who often doesn't give a flying fig about his brother, making comments and jokes at his expense at best, which most characters in the franchise do, and being an abusive brother at worst. Because of this, many Luigi fans hate Mario and blame him for how Luigi is treated. However, this is a load of misconceptions. While he is competitive with Luigi and teases him a bit on occasion, those are minor things, and in the scene fo Mario Power Tennis, Mario compliments him and what happens next is more him teasing his brother than being unlikeable. Mario is also one of the few characters in the franchise that is consistently respectful of Luigi, is protective of him, often rescued him when he's in danger, and the brothers love each other deeply.
** There was a period of time where Nintendo hinted at Luigi having a dark secret, as well as having him be mind-controlled into a FaceHeelTurn by the main villain of ''VideoGame/SuperPaperMario'', spurring on a deluge of [=ROMhacks=], mainly of ''VideoGame/SuperMarioWorld'', and a lot of fanfics and [=ROMhacks=] painting portraying him as being driven to villainy by his jealousy of Mario, despite his portrayal in later games Mario. However, he's generally portrayed as a ReluctantHero who very much loves his brother and would rather just stay at home and let him his brother save the day instead instead, but he loves him very much and is loyal and heroic despite not being as outwardly brave, putting his life on the line when he's in danger (his battles with King Boo were because the ghost kidnapped Mario).Mario). And no, Luigi doesn't whine about his inequality of fame compared to Mario, he barely even complains about it in the course of the entire franchise, if at all, and he's not the kind of guy that would betray his own brother just to be respected by everyone else. Also, the ''dark secret'' turned out to be a reference to the fact that he is overshadowed by Mario, that's all.

to:

* ''NeverLiveItDown/{{Persona}}''

* ''Franchise/{{Persona}}'':
** ''VideoGame/Persona2'': [[BigGood Philemon]]. He's doing his best as the antithesis of Nyarlathotep, guiding the heroes to unlock their potential. However, fans will not forget that he ''dared'' make the bet with Nyarlathotep about humanity's prevailing feature, which causes all the horrible things that happened in ''Innocent Sin'', thus they forget all his 'deeds' to genuinely help the humanity to fall into Nyarlathotep's designs, and is always going to be a [[JerkassGods Jerkass God]] that deserves to be punched in the face by Tatsuya. [[spoiler:In fact, had Philemon not made that bet, then Nyarly probably would've turned the entire world into his bitch, given that he's free to do as he pleases whereas Philemon can only observe.]]
** ''VideoGame/Persona3'':
*** [[DumbMuscle Akihiko's]] unhealthy obsession with training and protein-based products, the latter having only been referenced ''once'' in the game. Even with the demeaning nicknames given to him and the rest of the ''VideoGame/Persona4Arena'' cast, his portrayal as an incredibly [[BloodKnight battle hungry]] protein junkie in that game is so in-your-face that it's the most memorable parts about him now. Never mind the circumstances that lead to such an obsession which he had supposedly ''curbed'' [[spoiler:after witnessing his best friend get shot in front of him]], and never mind that he was actually rather keen and intelligent either; both fan perception ''and'' his ''[=P4A=]'' portrayal make it seem it's as if he never had that resolve in the first place, and he's only marginally smarter than Kanji. Then ''Persona Q'' [[{{Flanderization}} Flanderized]] him ''even more''.
*** Yukari Takeba from the same game will always be seen by fans as [[spoiler:the girl who TookALevelInJerkass and tried to risk dooming the world just to see the protagonist again]] after her actions in The Answer, despite the fact ''she develops out of this mentality''.
*** There is a massive amount of the the fanbase that will ''never'' forgive Ken Amada's actions during [[WhamEpisode October 4th]], when he [[spoiler:confronts Shinjiro alone on the anniversary of the day Shinjiro killed Ken's mom (which happens to be the battle with the Strength and Fortune Shadows), and during the confrontation, Takaya attacks and wounds Shinjiro, before moving to kill Ken, only for Shinjiro to [[HeroicSacrifice take the bullet]] and die from his wounds minutes later]]. Despite later scenes showing him [[spoiler:mourning Shinjiro's death]], ''Ultimax'' showing him move on with his life and ''Persona Q'' even solving his gameplay-related issues.
** ''VideoGame/Persona4'': For the most part, Dojima is a surprisingly competent detective in a case in which the normal rules don't apply due to the TV Dimension, trusts the protagonist a great deal, and tries to be a good father to Nanako. A good portion of the fanbase, however, mainly focuses on his actions on November 5, in which [[spoiler:after the protagonist gets a second threatening letter (the protagonist didn't show Dojima the first one), Dojima takes the protagonist in for questioning, leading to his daughter getting kidnapped]], and conclude that he's none of those things.
** ''VideoGame/Persona5'':
*** Haru is one of the nicest characters in the entire game, if not the nicest character. However, her comments for when Joker cheats on her (aka her stating she will crush her Valentine's Day chocolate for him) and having some...[[http://imgur.com/RyLQbr2 interesting]] [[http://imgur.com/dtoiVwZ dialogues]] [[https://youtu.be/4XeEoQuMlSY?t=5m10s in]] [[https://youtu.be/pm0X_EYIfVY?t=3m58s Mementos]] caused her to be treated as a MemeticPsychopath among the fans.
*** Ryuji tends to use a NoIndoorVoice in which [[SurprisinglyRealisticOutcome nearly got the Phantom Thieves into trouble by being caught]] twice (once in Kaneshiro's arc where Makoto overheard him, and another in a sushi bar where the Phantom Thieves had to make a quick excuse). However, fans tend to treat like he does that on a regular basis. It is also noteworthy that there were other times where the Phantom Thieves had their identities unintentionally be known to other people that had nothing to deal with Ryuji's NoIndoorVoice.
*** "For real?!" is often associated with Ryuji. While he does say it quite a lot, he is not the only character that does this. Ann and Futaba also say it quite a lot.
*** There's also Morgana, whose apparent sole purpose is to [[ScrappyMechanic force you to go to bed early when you don't want to]]- on days you've been to the Metaverse or on certain story days (the former of which can be bypassed by getting a massage from Kawakami if you max out her confidant link). Oddly enough, Sojiro, who refuses to let you leave Yongen-Jaya[[note]]Which only has a few stat-boosting activities and one of the nighttime Confidants- Sojiro himself[[/note]] until early May, or even go outside Leblanc for the first couple weeks, doesn't get blamed nearly as much.
*** Akechi only mentions pancakes ''once'' over the course of the original game, which, admittedly, becomes a plot point[[note]]What he said is less important than the fact that he responded to something Morgana said, with Akechi's remark proving that he'd been to the Metaverse long before he supposedly went there for the first time in the autumn.[[/note]]. The fandom took it and ran with it, treating pancakes as his TrademarkFavoriteFood. A Mementos conversation added in ''[[UpdatedReRelease Persona 5 Royal]]'' reveals Akechi actually developed a ''dislike'' for pancakes after that single comment brought his defeat.
*** Yusuke gets some hate over trying to get Ann, a victim of sexual harassment, to pose nude for him. While his behavior isn't appropriate, he wasn't trying to sexually harass Ann; he simply never imagined there was anything sexual about having a beautiful girl pose nude for him. In fact, if the player proposes having Ann pose nude for him during Yusuke's Confidant, Yusuke says he's moved past that.

* ''NeverLiveItDown/FinalFantasy''

* ''Franchise/FinalFantasy'':
** ''VideoGame/FinalFantasyII'':
*** Firion was an orphaned kid who became one of the key fighters for the rebels, helped overthrow TheEmperor, killed him when he came back to life after taking over the underworld, and in ''VideoGame/DissidiaFinalFantasy'' is a hot-blooded, badass rebel who exhibits mastery of ''Final Fantasy II's'' ''entire'' battle system. But he gets seduced by one Lamia Queen, and no one--not even the staff who threw in two {{Mythology Gag}}s in ''Dissidia'' for it--will let him forget it. In addition, thanks to ''Dissidia'' Firion will forever be associated with the so-called "wild rose" and his dream of filling the world with roses.
*** Several people will remember Guy for speaking beaver. He only said it once in game and that's what he is best known for.
** ''VideoGame/FinalFantasyIV'':
*** Some people don't like Rosa much for the fact she's a DistressedDamsel, being sick with desert fever then getting kidnapped shortly after you cure her. Once you rescue her she stays by Cecil's side for the rest of the game, even when he tells her to stay behind because it's too dangerous.
*** Kain gets {{Brainwashed}} ''once'', with a period between the Tower of Zot and Sealed Cave where Golbez loses the signal and has to retune it. Somehow that apparently translates into HeelFaceRevolvingDoor even though he only leaves and rejoins ''twice''.
*** In the sequel ''VideoGame/FinalFantasyIVTheAfterYears'', Kain is evil again and Rosa spends most of the plot on the sidelines after fleeing from Baron before Kain kidnaps her. The other characters even wonder "Has Kain been brainwashed again?" [[spoiler:Actually no, it's his EvilCounterpart[=/=]EnemyWithout, the true Kain is known as the Hooded Man and is completely good]]. Rosa, unfortunately for her, has no such redeeming plot point. Could also be seen as PanderingToTheBase--the other female character of the original game, not counting Porom, is Rydia, who is much more popular with the fans than Rosa. While Rosa spends most of the game out of action, Rydia is promoted to main female lead.
*** The people of Mysidia are still portrayed as UngratefulTownsfolk among ''Final Fantasy'' fans for their behavior. Cecil attacks Mysidia at the beginning of the game under the impostor King Baron's command, realizes that the excuse of JustFollowingOrders doesn't cut it, and that he needs to be better than that. When Cecil returns later in the story, everyone in Mysidia hates Cecil while he's walking around in Dark Knight armour. Some people berate him, others scream in fear, and some of them even [[ForcedTransformation curse Cecil with status effects]]. Considering what Cecil did last time he was there, this reaction is understandable. But what's not understandable is that the Mysidians keep cursing Cecil and his party even after he's become a Paladin, purged himself of darkness, started fighting alongside them, revealed to be TheChosenOne, and has saved the world no less than twice.
** ''VideoGame/FinalFantasyV'':
*** Bartz has a few comedic moments of [[{{Malaproper}} malapropism]], other goofiness, and harangues a turtle without realizing it's Sage Ghido so that the Ghido mocks his intelligence for the rest of the game. After he was [[{{Flanderization}} flanderized]] from "simple" to "simple''ton''" in ''VideoGame/DissidiaFinalFantasy'', fans act as though even Bartz in the original game is always acting like a dope when, in truth, he gets his share of OnlySaneMan moments.
*** Lenna being a poison magnet is a running joke among [=FFV=] fans. It's mainly the fact that two of the three instances are of her ''own volition'' that gets people. However, context says that the first time Lenna gets poisoned is out of desperation to get a Hiryuu to eat a cure for its own illness since she's a FriendToAllLivingThings, knowing the cure is poisonous to humans. But the fandom generally portrays Lenna as TooDumbToLive or that she's always getting herself poisoned.
** ''VideoGame/FinalFantasyVI'':
*** Terra is sometimes remembered as an ActualPacifist, or as someone who despises violence so strongly that she'll refuse to fight even if there's no other choice. This is based on her scenes when she's found in the World of Ruin, where she struggles with her [[MamaBear growing feelings of maternal love for some orphaned children]]. However, that same game also shows her [[CharacterDevelopment growing through this mental block]] and becoming a MartialPacifist instead, using her strength to protect the people she cares about. Terra's characterization in the ''[[VideoGame/DissidiaFinalFantasy Dissidia]]'' series turns her into a straight-up ApologeticAttacker, despite the crux of her character development in ''VI'' itself revolving around getting over this.
*** Ask most people what they think of when they think of Sabin, and they'll remark that he "suplexed a train".[[note]]This is from a [[GoodBadBugs bug]] that doesn't make the Phantom Train boss immune to Sabin's Suplex attack, meaning that, in-universe, Sabin can lift a train off its track, throw it into the air, and slam it back down. [[AscendedGlitch It's been kept in re-releases since it's so popular]], though.[[/note]]
*** Locke's sidequest in the World of Ruin revolves around him trying to find the Phoenix magicite to bring his dead fiancée Rachel back to life. Due to some of the language used during the quest, Locke came off to a few players as a bit creepy and clingy, and being incapable of letting go. But the way some fans hold this over his head, one would think Locke was a [[ILoveTheDead necrophiliac]].
** ''VideoGame/FinalFantasyVII'':
*** Despite resolving the majority of his issues and becoming a confident leader by the end of the game, Cloud Strife will always be known as an angsty, [[ContemplateOurNavels navel-gazing]] introvert. Likewise, Aerith has been painted so heavily with the AllLovingHero brush that most people forget that she was a spunky, energetic, flirty young woman who fell in love with a [[LovingAShadow shadow of her first boyfriend]] and frequently caused problems by running off on her own. Interestingly, this creates something of a HypeBacklash, in that Creator/SquareEnix is often accused of [[PanderingToTheBase pandering to the extreme version of this]], and stated in creation materials for ''Anime/FinalFantasyVIIAdventChildren'' that they characterized Cloud as angsty because they thought fans would be more familiar with such a depiction.
*** The cross-dressing mission to get in Don Corneo's mansion. Even though it's optional, ''WesternAnimation/RobotChicken'', in a sketch about gay video game characters, included Cloud crossdressing and getting in a hot tub with other men in speedos.
*** Cloud is also misblamed as the cause of a trend of "emo" protagonists in ''Final Fantasy'', sometimes even every brooding RPG protagonist from the release on ''FFVII'' on, and every time any character is actually depressed for any reason Cloud tends to get blamed for it. Yet out of all the main ''Final Fantasy'' games, only [[VideoGame/FinalFantasyVIII Squall]] could be considered "emo" in any sense of the word, they both had good reason to be like that, they are not the first of ''Final Fantasy'' protagonists to feel perpetually miserable for one reason or another, and most of the subsequent Final Fantasy protagonists are actually pretty chipper most of the time.
** Though not as negative as some examples here, Zidane in ''VideoGame/FinalFantasyIX'' will always be famous for that one scene--"Ooh, soft!". As well-known among fans of the game as that scene is, groping Garnet really was an accident and he apologized afterwards. He may be a ChivalrousPervert, but he's more the former than the latter.
** If there's one thing Tidus and Yuna from ''VideoGame/FinalFantasyX'' will always be remembered by, it will be the infamous laughing scene. What many fail to realize is that the laughter was ''supposed'' to sound forced. Even the other characters wonder [[YoureInsane what is wrong with them]]. Even Square Enix can't resist mocking this; nearly every {{Crossover}} Tidus appears in will feature at least one laughter joke.
** In ''VideoGame/FinalFantasyXII'', Vaan asks Fran how old she is, which is insensitive and the entire party chews him out for it, but under the circumstances isn't a bad question (the scene just before implies Fran is over fifty years old, and that Viera live far longer than humans). Additionally, some AlternativeCharacterInterpretation posits that he asked her ''that'' question rather than asking her about her possibly [[spoiler:painful past in her HiddenElfVillage]]. Then in ''VideoGame/Dissidia012FinalFantasy'', his opening quote to Shantotto, Prishe ''and'' Ultimecia is to ask how old they are, ''and'' he asks the same about Cosmos in a storyline scene.
** In ''VideoGame/FinalFantasyXIII'':
*** Lightning punches Snow on two separate occasions - in extreme circumstances and while under an enormous amount of emotional stress, likely because it was a) heavily featured in the trailers, b) "awesome," and c) what many players wanted to do at that point, fanfic features her decking Snow full-force at the drop of a hat. They also tend to forget that she [[DefrostingIceQueen defrosted]] a lot over the course of the story, and she is told point-blank by Fang (whom she also hits) that punching people to relieve her emotional stress is a ''bad thing'' that solves exactly zero of their current problems, and she noticeably stops doing so when she realizes the truth in that statement. ''Dissidia 012'' responds as it has with its other characters by portraying her as the fan view of her as super stoic and hostile.
*** Hope will forever be known as the [[{{Wangst}} whiney]] Mamas Boy with [[YouKilledMyFather a revenge complex]]. However, his journey to overcome his irrational and adolescent desire for revenge (a coping mechanism for seeing his mother die before his eyes and not understanding why) is his ''[[CharacterDevelopment main character arc]]'', which resolves about halfway through the game.
*** Snow himself is [[TheScrappy hated]] for supposedly having a hero complex and being obsessed with Serah (you know, ''his fiancée''). But one of the first observations made about Snow in-game (by Vanille) is that he's "all-talk", and it very quickly becomes clear that Snow is talking big to cover for deeper insecurities.
** ''VideoGame/FinalFantasyXIV'':
*** Minfilia is a leader of a group of talented individuals where said talents can help deal with the primals and the empire. Because Minfilia gets captured twice and lacked the ability to fight back, people flanderized her into someone who gets kidnapped all the time like [[Franchise/SuperMarioBros Princess Peach]] while barking orders at the player character. This is ignoring how in both kidnappings, Minfilia refused to give her captors what they wanted, knowing she could be killed for it, and the fact that Minfilia is the only one willing and able to do the boring political paperwork behind the scenes while the talents of the player character and the rest of her people can be put to good use where they're needed.
*** Similarly, Alphinaud once dove right into the GloryHound and tried to get the city state leaders to do what he suggested for the betterment of Eorzea. After some really nasty things went down because of him, he ate a huge slice of HumblePie and tried to better himself by listening to everyone and actively supporting his allies in the field. Despite his CharacterDevelopment, people will only remember him for his pre character development days.
*** Aymeric gets a ton of flack after he shouts at the Warrior of Light and Alphinaud to [[spoiler: toss Nidhogg's eyes into the ravine below the Steps of Faith]]. This would later bite everyone in the ass due to [[spoiler: the Ascians retrieving the eyes and giving them to Ilberd, which he summons a primal with]]. While nobody in the story could have known any of the events afterwards could happen and Aymeric does regret his mistake, many fans still won't let Aymeric live it down.
*** The Moogles in ''Heavensward'' are extremely hated by fans due to how incredibly lazy they are and that they don't even try to hide this, sending players out to do pointless fetch quests. Even though their beast tribe quests introduced later have Moogles that are willing to help out and the ones who don't get hit with LaserGuidedKarma, many people's views on the Moogles are forever soured.

!!The rest:

* ''Franchise/FireEmblem'':
** The series itself is pretty well known for having lots of BrotherSisterIncest (And [[FlirtyStepsiblings other]] [[KissingCousins kinds]] of incest). There's a legitimate point to this, given that the Jugdral Chronology has ''lots'' of incest (one pairing as a major plot point, a few more strongly implied, and multiple incestuous pairings that players can set up themselves), but ''[[VideoGame/FireEmblemGenealogyOfTheHolyWar Genealogy of the Holy War]]'' is the only one where it has a bearing on the main plot.
** ''VideoGame/FireEmblemTheBlazingBlade'':
*** Erk is most definitely annoyed by Serra and isn't shy about telling her so. In his B support with Priscilla, he makes a few comments on the stress of having been Serra's escort. Fanon took this to mean he genuinely hates Serra's guts and will loudly bash her to anyone within earshot.
*** Legault's flirtations with Heath in their supports result in a lot of fangirls forgetting the other, more plot-driven aspects of his character. Also, Heath is ''not'' the only person Legault flirts with, either.
*** MysteriousWaif Ninian has only broken down in tears ''twice'' through the story, and each time ''for very good reasons'', yet fans treat her as if she cried every single time she opened her mouth, and use it to bash her for [[RealWomenNeverWearDresses being "weak"]] or standing in between Eliwood and [[ActionGirl Lyn]] (who has ''also'' cried in canon). It took her appearance in ''VideoGame/FireEmblemHeroes'' to shake off some of her stigma.
*** Eliwood's declaration that he has no love for war led to at least half the fandom either bashing him as a "pansy-ass pussy" or painting him as a NervousWreck who flails/cries/goes into cardiac arrest at the sight of blood.
*** Hector confides to Eliwood in their B-Support that he had a bad dream about Eliwood's son being romantically involved with Hector's daughter and asks Eliwood to make sure that doesn't happen, alluding to Roy and Lilina's relationship in ''The Binding Blade''. Fans took this as Hector being a ''very'' BoyfriendBlockingDad in the future who will do many not-nice things to anyone trying to court Lilina, especially Roy. The thing is, this all took place ''years'' before Roy and Lilina were even born, and when we see Hector ([[SuddenSequelDeathSyndrome briefly]]) in ''The Binding Blade'', his last request is for Roy to take care of Lilina, showing that he's mellowed out after getting to know Roy for real as [[NiceGuy an upstanding young man]] [[LikeFatherLikeSon like his father.]] And while some interaction ''does'' shows up in ''VideoGame/FireEmblemHeroes'', Roy's romance (or not) with Lilina is only slightly hinted and although Hector knows, he doesn't mind.
*** ChivalrousPervert Sain says "oh, beauteous one" exactly ''one time'' within the course of the game, but some parts of the fandom treat it like his CatchPhrase.
*** Lucius has been mistaken for a woman exactly ''once'' ([[ViewerGenderConfusion in-universe at least]]), even though his feminine looks are commented on by several characters.
*** Most fans remember Priscilla for is either her crush on her brother Raymond or her "endless stream of unhappy endings with men". Some have even speculated that she's meant to be "the Literature/MadameBovary of Elibe", completely ignoring that her solo ending ''is'' happy on its own, and that she and Erk can be genuinely happy together. Not all her male supports are romantic, either (Oswin and Lucius, anyone?).
** In the Jugdral Chronology, the protagonist of the first part, Sigurd, does quite a bit in the first half. At the same time, it's unlikely he'll ever shake [[spoiler:the fire jokes]], due to [[spoiler:his final fate]] [[ItWasHisSled being one of the most well-known aspects of the game]].
** In ''VideoGame/FireEmblemTheSacredStones'':
*** Eirika will never live down giving the Sacred Stone of Renais to the Demon King-possessed Lyon, allowing him to destroy it. Most of why she's such a BaseBreakingCharacter comes from ''that scene alone''. It doesn't help that she got called "gullible and naive" in one of her DLC cameos in ''Awakening''.
*** Innes tells Eirika he'll prove himself worthy of her love in their A level support. Fanfics pairing Eirika with someone else turn him into a competitive JerkAss who sees her as nothing more than a prize to be won. And fans who support Innes as Eirika's favored suitor use Seth's A support with Eirika (in which he first tries to distance himself from her, but later confesses his own love) to accuse Seth of being sexist, creepy, and possessive of her. The DoubleStandard [[DieForOurShip is obvious.]]
** Ike from ''VideoGame/FireEmblemPathOfRadiance'' and ''[[VideoGame/FireEmblemRadiantDawn Radiant Dawn]]'' is known solely for his line in ''VideoGame/SuperSmashBrosBrawl'': "I fight for my friends!" Not so much the line itself, but for the less than stellar voice acting.
** Ever since a certain base conversation in ''Radiant Dawn'', you'd think all Soren ''ever'' did was cry in Ike's arms.
** ''VideoGame/FireEmblemAwakening'':
*** Cordelia has plenty more reasons than "boo hoo why won't Chrom love me" to be sad, but to some fans she's nothing more than said love. Quite a few of her support conversations ''do'' mention Chrom, including some of her S supports, but she still has a few that bring up her other issues.
*** There's actually [[GoodShepherd a lot]] [[DarkAndTroubledPast more]] to Libra's character than DudeLooksLikeALady and StupidSexyFlanders, but since those two are the subject of his recruitment conversation and a support with Virion shown before the game was released, those are all fans tend to remember.
*** In regards to ''all'' the Children Characters, the fandom ''loves'' to focus only on [[DarkAndTroubledPast their traumas and experiences]] in the BadFuture, therefore reducing them solely to their [[TheWoobie woobie traits]], ignoring their surprisingly complex personalities.
*** Inigo will never live down saying "I want to be manhandled!" [[HoYay to Gerome]] in their supports. The line actually has a very different meaning in-context: he's jealous of [[AllGirlsWantBadBoys all the attention Gerome gets from girls]] and wishes the ladies would fawn over ''him'' that way.
*** Because of her {{Stripperific}} clothing and childish demeanor, Nowi is forever "dragon loli", with fans completely ignoring her backstory and personality and the actual depth of her character beyond her appearance.
*** Some fans judge Henry entirely by the localization changes to his supports with Olivia, ignoring the other aspects of his character that aren't all that different from the original Japanese version.
*** Hearing what fans say about Olivia would make you believe she only exists to "heal Henry's broken heart" or "be the girl who has a sudden FourthDateMarriage with Chrom if you hook them up". Never mind that Olivia can marry guys other than Henry and Chrom.
*** Sadly, this is actually ''canon'' for Yarne, who has a reputation as the scared little bunny boy who runs away all the time. Which, granted, he does, but he has [[LastOfHisKind reasons for doing so]].
*** Frederick's naked poster of Chrom. It ''is'' a hilarious moment and the HoYay ''is'' there, but that alone set off many a fangirl proclaiming his ultimate gayness for Chrom and ignoring the other aspects of his character. There's another subset of the fandom that find his S Support with Cordelia to be uncomfortable due to its shades of EntitledToHaveYou, and to them Frederick is only remembered as "that guy with the worst S Support in the game." Ignoring all of his other hundred plus supports.
*** Lucina makes one comment about joining Chrom in the mixed baths and has one (admittedly poorly-handled) support set where she shrieks at the female Avatar (if she's not her mother) for [[MistakenForCheating supposedly flirting with Chrom.]] This gets her branded as [[IncestSubtext being in love with her own father]] by a good chunk of the fandom.
*** To some sects of the fandom, the Female Avatar is defined by her awkward BelligerentSexualTension supports with Chrom, even though she can marry other guys (and can marry Chrom without going through these supports [[GuideDangIt if you know how his auto-marriage works]] ''and'' actually apologizes to Chrom in their A-Support), and the Male Avatar is defined by the fact he can romance his best friend's daughter and sister. (Albeit the former is LessDisturbingInContext due to TimeTravelRomance.)
*** Fandom seems to believe that Nah is nothing but a bitchy TinyTyrannicalGirl who forces all her eventual boyfriends into marriage via threatening them to eat them alive. The only support chain where she does so is Inigo's; in the others she is ''at most'' kinda bossy, but never to such a degree. (She's pretty gentle to male Morgan and Yarne, her bossy tendencies are PlayedForLaughs with Laurent, her bugging Gerome is treated as playful rather than mean-spirited.)
*** Tharja seems to be almost entirely known, both in the game's fandom and out, as the Avatar's StalkerWithACrush. Many of these portrayals seem removed from the context that she's normally a gloomy, anti-social loner, and the doting {{Yandere}} she acts like whenever the subject of the Avatar comes up is meant to be seen as out-of-character for her. It's to the point that even some of her detractors seem to forget her other questionable character traits, like using her family as guinea pigs for dark magic to the point of turning Noire into a NervousWreck. Unfortunately, even many of her ''official'' appearances in later ''Fire Emblem'' games ignore most of her character and fixate on the way she acts toward the Avatar.
*** Chrom is mentioned as having ''maybe'' eaten an unpeeled orange ''once'' in Gaius and Olivia’s B support. Ask fans, and you’d not only think that’s all he ever eats, but also that he canonically doesn’t know how oranges are actually meant to be eaten.
** ''VideoGame/FireEmblemFates'':
*** Soleil is bisexual but largely prefers women; however, she can only S support with men (all the boys in the Japanese version, Forrest and the male Avatar in English). While it's a valid reason for fans to be disappointed, a lot of them are screaming about how homophobic the game is after reading her poorly-written support chain with a male Avatar. All while conveniently ignoring the fact that the kids aren't as tied to the marriage mechanic as their parents, and it's just as easy to leave Soleil unpaired and at A support with another girl. Many have outright ''boycotted'' the game over this.
*** Once the above controversy wore off, fans started to see Soleil as a "predatory lesbian stereotype" due to her constant flirting and C-B rank supports with Ophelia. Admittedly, some of her support chains don't handle her flirting well, but some have even gone so far as to say she should be kept away from women, never mind that she ''does'' apologize to Ophelia and has more traits to her than simply chasing girls.
*** Oboro's initial character description was two things: her hatred for Nohr and her feelings for Takumi, the prince she serves. More aspects of her personality were revealed over time (i.e her TeamMom tendences, her love of fashion in general, etc.), as well as the translation of her supports that explain her hatred of Nohr and [[spoiler:have her working on it by supporting and potentially marrying two Nohrian guys in the ''Birthright'' path, and fully overcoming it via supporting with other two Nohrian guys and a Nohrian woman more in ''Revelation'']], but some only remember those initial traits. Also, her feelings for Takumi aren't mentioned often outside of her supports with Takumi himself (obviously) and Hinata (Takumi's other retainer who already knows about her crush).
*** Azura is the [[MrExposition Miss Exposition]] of ''Fates'', so she explains a lot of plot points over the course of the game. This includes two of the game's more controversial ones (namely [[spoiler:the throne of Hoshido being required to expose the fake Garon's true form, resulting in Hoshido's invasion during Conquest]] and [[spoiler:the curse of Valla preventing anyone from mentioning it by name]]), and this colored the fandom's opinion of her quite badly, with some even ''blaming'' her for those contrived plot points.
*** The introduction of the child mechanic was somewhat rushed, and the explanation for the children is clumsily handled and contrived, but the child characters themselves are fleshed out and well-developed. Unfortunately, this isn't enough to stop a lot of the fandom from bashing them and defining them by the clumsy mechanic rather than as characters, or from turning on the parent characters and denouncing them as abusive and neglectful. The fact that this is addressed in-game doesn't mitigate the fans' anger.
*** [[HotBlooded Ryoma]], [[SugarAndIcePersonality Leo]], and [[JerkWithAHeartOfGold Jakob]] are especially big targets of this: Ryoma for having hit his son Shiro in the Japanese version of the game/yelling at him in English (plus hiding the fact that he's royalty), Leo for chewing out his son Forrest for his WholesomeCrossdresser ways, and Jakob for being competitive with his son Dwyer and calling him out on his laziness. Fans who bash the fathers for these instances conveniently ignore the fact that Shiro ''does'' point out that Ryoma made a mistake and that Ryoma tries harder to be a good dad, Leo ''apologizes'' to Forrest and spends their entire support chain trying to be supportive and encouraging while still firm, and that not only does Jakob care for his son, but that Dwyer himself ''is'' lazy and surly and responds to Jakob just as competitively.
*** Takumi is a BaseBreakingCharacter, and his detractors treat him as though all he did was yell at and hate the Avatar before going BrainwashedAndCrazy in ''Conquest''. Some also find it hard to forgive his shooting of Elise [[DisproportionateRetribution for speaking up for Corrin]] in Cheve. (Never mind that he was, as before, not himself at the time[[labelnote:Explanation(Spoilers)]]Players may notice that unlike in the previous battle, where the Hoshido royal boss theme plays while fighting him, "Puppet's Feast," the Vallite boss theme plays while fighting him in Cheve, indicating he has been possessed by Anankos[[/labelnote]].)
*** Even though [[SignificantAnagram Rhajat]]'s [[StalkerWithACrush Tharja-esque traits]] were ''somewhat'' amped up in the localization, she still has far more to her character than that. Her detractors, however, stubbornly ignore this fact in order to keep bashing her, "forgetting" that her non-Avatar supports give her several PetTheDog moments and a genuine desire to make more friends.
*** Leo's feelings for Camilla, among some sectors of the fandom. Due to ''[[AllThereInTheManual The Making of Fire Emblem]]'' stating that his behavior towards Camilla in their support indicates a past crush on her, some fans believe he never got over it and that it defines him and his relationships with the women he can marry. This despite the fact that these feelings are never mentioned in the present, and Leo is completely capable of falling in love with women despite not being completely flawless around them.
*** Kiragi is a sweet and helpful {{keet}} who shows some CuteAndPsycho traits ''in a DLC stage (that was also never released outside Japan)'', and only around a few of his possible mothers (Rinkah, Camilla and Azura). Naturally, the fandom has made him a full-blown CreepyChild who does nothing but cackle psychotically.
*** Much like Sigurd, Flora will also never escape the [[spoiler:fire jokes]], due to the scene in ''Birthright'' where she [[spoiler:kills herself via self-immolation]].
** ''VideoGame/FireEmblemGaiden'':
*** Conrad from the remake has gotten several nasty posts aimed at him on Website/{{tumblr}}, accusing him of being a "woman beater" due to ''one scene'' in which he delivers a GetAholdOfYourselfMan on Celica. Never mind that Boey calls him out on it, Conrad feels bad afterwards, and he ''never does it again''.
*** Rinea from the same game is remembered for one of two things: either being Berkut's [[WetBlanketWife wet blanket fiancée]] who constantly calls out his violent streak, or the constant memes surrounding [[spoiler:her death scene, which involves her getting set on fire]], just like [[RunningGag Sigurd and Flora]] before her.
** ''VideoGame/FireEmblemThreeHouses''
*** The game brings us yet another immolation victim in the form of [[spoiler:Bernadetta]], who is burned to death at Gronder Field on some routes. At this point, if any ''Fire Emblem'' character is set on fire, that'll be what they're remembered for. It's worth noting that [[spoiler:Bernadetta]] doesn't actually seem to take damage from the fire, so it's unclear as to whether [[spoiler:Edelgard was really willing to sacrifice her classmate.]] In fact, the fire being called down onto the ballista will only happen if [[spoiler:Petra or the Empire General who replaces her]] is defeated, and it's most likely that players will have defeated [[spoiler:Bernadetta or the Empire General who replaces her]] first.
*** Leonie and Cyril have a lot of traits that make them unique and have some well-developed supports with other characters. Unfortunately, because of Leonie's admittedly disliked support with Byleth and Cyril's aloof personality, they've been exaggerated by the fans to be utterly obsessed with Jeralt and Rhea respectively, basically ignoring any other traits or supports they have. Making things worse in Leonie's case is that her A-support with Byleth gives a JerkassRealization and a genuine apology, but true to this trope, [[AccentuateTheNegative the fandom doesn't really acknowledge it]] because of how bad her first impression was to many (fans of hers argue that her B-support being locked until after [[spoiler:Jeralt's death]] was the writers ''really'' screwing her over). Cyril has it even worse, considering his relative popularity compared to Leonie as he lacks the same amount of focus Leonie gets until late enough where people will have no reason to use him. In his case, it doesn't help that players who choose the Black Eagles will have less opportunity to see his better traits, as depending on your choice in Chapter 11 he's either [[spoiler: unrecruitable and an enemy who will stand with Rhea even at her worst]] or [[spoiler: joins with no fanfare in Chapter 12, giving the player little opportunity to use or build supports with him.]]
*** Similarly, Dedue gets a lot of flak due to supposedly being obsessed with Dimitri, to the point where some fics try to "fix" him by heavily downplaying his relationship with Dimitri or separating them altogether. To be fair, he does have a couple support conversations and several monastery dialogues that focus on Dimitri... However, he also has several support chains that either barely mention Dimitri(e.g. his supports with Mercedes mainly focus on Duscur culture) or ''don't mention him at all''(e.g. his supports with Annette), and his S-support with a female Byleth has him outright leave Dimitri's service to focus on his marriage to her. It's also made clear that the reason Dedue is so loyal to Dimitri in the first place is because he was one of the few people who [[BecauseYouWereNiceToMe treated him kindly despite his Duscur heritage]].
*** Leonie also gets a lot of flak for her C support with Marianne, in which she responds to Marianne's gloomy and self-deprecating behavior with a backhanded apology and a refusal to spend any more time with Marianne. While this was hardly Leonie's best moment, she does apologize to Marianne in her next support, and generally isn't this abrasive with her classmates.
*** Some people can't get over Alois and Gilbert due to how their S-support ranks are [[BaitAndSwitchLesbians misleading]] and blaming them for the game's dual-male options. Even though they are well-rounded characters and their supports with Byleth still are sweet even if they aren't romantic, since they offer Byleth their UndyingLoyalty regardless of gender, they still get harsh treatment from some fans.
*** Rhea's infamous lap pillow scene with Byleth at the end of Chapter 10, in which she [[spoiler:cradles Byleth's head in her lap as the latter regains consciousness after the battle, in which Byleth's consciousness merged with Sothis]] due to its framing, atmosphere, execution, and creepy implications, has had many fans painting her as a MemeticMolester, also not helped by the fact that [[spoiler:romancing her is also possibly romancing your grandma who is also your daughter.]]
*** Ingrid gets a lot of criticism for her xenophobia towards the people of Duscur, despite the fact that it only comes up in-game during her supports with Dedue, plus one monastery conversation, both of which are exclusive to Azure Moon (as that monastery conversation is replaced in the other routes by her praising the bountiful resources of Garreg Mach) — meaning that if you play any other route first and recruit her, it's still possible to miss it entirely. Additionally, those same supports see her coming to regret her hostility towards him and apologizing to Dedue for her behavior. It's made clear that Ingrid never had all of the information regarding the Tragedy of Duscur, she was younger and more impressionable when it happened, and it's only because her fiancé Glenn Fraldarius died in the Tragedy that she's facing constant pressure from her father to accept an arranged marriage that will support the Galatea family financially — but none of this matters to the fans who write her off derisively as a xenophobe. Ironically, [[OlderThanTheyThink this wasn't the first time that Intelligent Systems wrote a character that dealt with being a bigot]]; they previously did it with [[VideoGame/FireEmblemPathOfRadiance Jill]], and she got over it enough to become a fan favorite, but she never (or at least just rarely) had a NeverLiveItDown phenomenon, unlike Ingrid.
*** Sylvain’s [[ChivalrousPervert playboy antics]]. While it’s not particularly difficult to view him as a shallow philanderer due to the fact that it’s his most prominent character trait, he’s also another character that falls in line with there being more to him than that meets the eye. Looking deeper into his supports and his actions over the course of the game would reveal that [[spoiler:his laid-back behavior is merely a front he puts on to mask his insecurities and to keep others from having high expectations of him. Not only is he shown to be [[HiddenDepths one of the most intelligent and reflective characters]] in the story,]] he is also far more dark than he initially lets on.
** ''VideoGame/FireEmblemEngage'':
*** At the start of the game, Alear, a Divine Dragon who has awakened from a 1,000-year slumber, is heading to Lythos Castle with their stewards Vander, Clanne and Framme, when some undead foes called the Corrupted appear, resulting in Alear ordering her party to flee until Clanne and Framme's attacking the Corrupted forces Alear to fight. This, along with Alear's fear of the Corrupted, resulted in some players bashing Alear as a coward, despite the fact that Alear rarely displays any sort of cowardly behavior. In fact, not only was there no good reason to engage with the Corrupted in that situation, but there were so many that only Lumera's arrival saved Alear and their companions.
*** The game itself suffers from this when it comes to some of the supports, since many of the ones involving the Lythos and Firene cast are relatively one-note and uninteresting. The supports get more interesting once the cast of the other nations join, but unfortunately, that's also when the player starts having more units than they have deployment slots, and getting units that tend to outdo early game units (e.g. Alcryst compared to Etie), making it harder to see many of the supports.

** In ''VideoGame/KingdomHeartsBirthBySleep'', Terra has the unfortunate tendency to meet villains before meeting heroes whenever he travels, and those villains take advantage of the fact that he doesn't know they're evil to manipulate him. Usually, he figures it out partway through and foils their schemes, and in the one case he did majorly help a villain, he was ''mind-controlled'' into doing it. However, he has garnered a reputation among the fans for being easily duped and believing anything a villain says, cheerfully helping them out to the detriment of everyone else. His trust in Xehanort is also held against him, despite the fact that at that point in the timeline, ''nobody'' knew Xehanort was evil, and he was still a [[VillainWithGoodPublicity highly respected Keyblade master]].

** Zelda is known for being kidnapped constantly and being a helpless damsel-in-distress, and saving her is the plot of every game. This is not the case. Zelda admittedly has been kidnapped, enchanted, turned to stone and whatnot for half of the games she's been in, but even in those games, her capture is usually just ''part'' of the villain's scheme. The main goal is the Triforce or some other powerful relic, and she's captured precisely ''because'' she's a powerful mage who would cause a lot of trouble if getting rid of her ''wasn't'' Step 1. For example, ''VideoGame/TheLegendOfZeldaBreathOfTheWild'' has is indeed trapped by Ganon for the whole game... but she's so powerful that he's trapped as well and [[SealedEvilInADuel they've been engaged in a century-long standoff]].

** The infamous "Samus breaks down crying after seeing Ridley" scene in ''VideoGame/MetroidOtherM'' is what fans usually bring up to mock the game or showing the game's worst bits. While it is universally agreed upon that the execution of Samus's PSTD reaction towards Ridley was executed badly, it doesn't even last that long and she quickly gets over it, though fans would make it sound like she never stops crying about her nemesis.

** *** Eliwood's declaration that he has no love for war led to at least half the fandom either bashing him as a "pansy-ass pussy" or painting him as a NervousWreck who flails/cries/goes into cardiac arrest at the sight of blood.
** *** Hector confides to Eliwood in their B-Support that he had a bad dream about Eliwood's son being romantically involved with Hector's daughter and asks Eliwood to make sure that doesn't happen, alluding to Roy and Lilina's relationship in ''The Binding Blade''.
** *** ChivalrousPervert Sain says "oh, beauteous one" exactly ''one time'' within the course of the game, but some parts of the fandom treat it like his CatchPhrase.
** *** Lucius has been mistaken for a woman exactly ''once'' ([[ViewerGenderConfusion in-universe at least]]), even though his feminine looks are commented on by several characters.
** *** Most fans remember Priscilla for is either her crush on her brother Raymond or her "endless stream of unhappy endings with men".

** In ''VideoGame/FireEmblemTheSacredStones'', Eirika will never live down giving the Sacred Stone of Renais to the Demon King-possessed Lyon, allowing him to destroy it. Most of why she's such a BaseBreakingCharacter comes from ''that scene alone''. It doesn't help that she got called "gullible and naive" in one of her DLC cameos in ''Awakening''.
** Innes tells Eirika he'll prove himself worthy of her love in their A level support.

*** At the start of Alear, a Divine Dragon who has awakened from a 1,000-year slumber, is heading to Lythos Castle with their stewards Vander, Clanne and Framme, when some undead foes called the Corrupted appear, resulting in Alear ordering her party to flee until Clanne and Framme's attacking the Corrupted forces Alear to fight.

However, he also has several support chains that either barely mention Dimitri or ''don't mention him at all'', and his S-support with a female Byleth has him outright leave Dimitri's service to focus on his marriage to her. It's also made clear that the reason Dedue is so loyal to Dimitri in the first place is because he was one of the few people who [[BecauseYouWereNiceToMe treated him kindly despite his Duscur heritage]].
