** VideoGame/TheLegendOfZeldaBreathOfTheWild has Mipha and Sidon, the children of the Zora king. Mipha is TheQuietOne, generally keeping her feelings to herself and filling the WhiteMagicianGirl role after battles, while Sidon is a WarriorPrince with an energetic and sociable personality. Impa and Purah are another pair; Impa is a fairly serious and reserved character who focuses on the spiritual traditions of Sheikah culture and who has a granddaughter, while Purah is an energetic and showy character who focuses more on the scientific traditions of Sheikah culture and who doesn't seem to have started a family of her own (implied based on dialogue with people in Hateno Village to be because she is a ChildHater).

*** Rauru and Mineru of the Zonai. While both were wise and benevolent, Rauru was a more warm and extroverted guy who used light-based magic, while Mineru was a bookish and introverted woman who preferred to work on the Magitek Constructs in her study. This may be why Rauru was the one in charge of Hyrule despite Mineru being the older sibling.
*** Sophie (an AscendedExtra from Breath of the Wild) is a girl from Hateno Village who is a ShrinkingViolet with a slumped-over posture who used to awkwardly greet visitors to Ventest Clothing from behind the entrance door and is implied to have never left her hometown. Her older sister Cece is a very flashy and wildly-gesturing Fashionista who had been travelling abroad (which is why you never saw her in the previous game) researching clothing styles and only came home to turn Hateno Village into a new fashion hub.

* VideoGame/SoulSeries: Sophitia and Cassandra Alexandria are a baker's daughters in Ottoman Greece, and being the GorgeousGreek is practically the only thing you can honestly say they both have in common. Cass? She's a sarky bitch - "Were you looking forward to winning? Ohhh, I'm sorry!" It also comes down to their fighting styles: Cassandra is a rushdown-grappler hybrid who can put you in a lot of pain if you let her close in, Sophitia is more of a defensive block-and-punish character with balanced stats.

This even reflects in their preferred types, with Ryme specializing in the special-oriented Ghost-type and Tyme using the physical-oriented Rock-type.
* In Literature/The39Clues, we have Amy and Dan Cahill. Amy is painfully shy and a bookworm, while Dan is goofy and more daring and has is more into math. However, they make a great team.
* Literature/AirAwakens: Half-brothers Prince Aldrik and Prince Baldair. A dark-haired and dark-eyed sorcerer, secretive and often nasty to people, and a blond-haired, blue-eyed warrior, open, direct and loved by the people.
* Literature/TheAnderssons:
** Ida Sofia and Mandi are PolarOppositeTwins and a perfect example of RedOniBlueOni already as four-year-olds. Ida Sofia is the introverted and cynical BookWorm, Mandi is more extroverted and naive and BookDumb.
** Ida Sofia and Greta have a case of TheGloriousWarOfSisterlyRivalry. Ida Sofia is the straight-laced intellectual, while Greta is an impulsive TheFashionista.
** Eric and Otto are SensitiveGuyAndManlyMan. Eric is meek and sensitive and becomes a confectioner. Otto is tough and more austere and becomes a military officer.
** When it comes to Cecilia and Hannes, they develope a full-blown SiblingRivalry. Cecilia is very much pushed into getting a High School diploma, whether that is what she wants or not. Hannes has dyslexia and could hardly get a passing grade in Elementary School, so he thinks that he's TheUnfavorite. But if you ask Cecilia, he is free at least to get a job and make money and go anywhere he wants. They are constantly jealous of each other and are even divided by their different tastes in music: Cecilia's upbeat rock'n'roll vs Hannes's moody jazz. It is only gradually, that they can start to approach each other again.
** Åsa and Saga are a TomboyAndGirlyGirl pair. Åsa is a TheFashionista, who becomes a fashion designer. Saga is the OutdoorsyGal, who is more interested in becoming a farmer like their parents.
* Literature/ArnTheKnightTemplar:
** Arn is a deeply devout, highly trained knight. His brother Eskil is a worldly merchant, fond of silver, food, beer, and salty language. However, Arn points out that the two aren't that different while Eskil has made his name as a financial and political power-player in their homeland, Arn has been a castellan in the Knights Templar, and the big man in one of their most important trading posts in Outremer, meaning that he has played politics at the top level in the Kingdom of Jerusalem, and while not on Eskil's level, he still has a decent grasp of the realities of commerce and logistics.
** Cecilia is portrayed as a generally good-hearted woman, in huge contrast to her mean shrew of a sister, Katarina, who managed to separate Cecilia and Arn for more than twenty years for selfish reasons. And unlike Arn and Eskil, who always got along despite their differences, Cecilia could not forgive Katarina for what she did to her and Arn, and it seems like the two sisters never saw each other again. And to further highlight how the different they were, Cecilia was of course always a faithful wife to Arn (after they could finally get married, that is), while Katarina was caught cheating on Eskil (because yes, Arn's brother was pretty much forced to marry her for political reasons). But she got banished to a convent for the rest of her life as a punishment for her infidelity, so she would at least not be a KarmaHoudini for that one.
* In Ayn Rand's Literature/AtlasShrugged, we have Dagny and James Taggart, and Hank and Philip Rearden. Both sets of siblings hold polarized world views and that in turn shows us that blood is not ThickerThanWater.
* Literature/TheBabySittersClub:
** Claudia and Janine. Claudia is a BookDumb fashionista and an extrovert while her sister Janine is book-smart, nerdy, and introverted.
** Abby and Anna. Anna is musical, bookish, and introspective while Abby is an athletic, noisy ClassClown. About the only things they have in common are that they both have scoliosis (although Abby didn't need it corrected by a brace while Anna did) and poor eyesight.
** Karen is a bratty and talkative GenkiGirl. Her brother Andrew is very shy.
** One book is based around the club babysitting for twins Marilyn and Carolyn whose mother insisted on dressing them identically and treating them as one person, despite their completely different interests and personalities. In later books, Carolyn has short hair, wears trendy clothes, and likes science, while Marilyn wears her hair longer and likes to play the piano.
* In the Literature/CalLeandros series, Cal and Niko Leandros. Niko is the older, responsible, hard-working, polite, always-serious, MasterSwordsman vegetarian BadassBookworm, for whom everything has its place, while Cal, the younger brother, is bad-mouthed, snarky, gun-toting, hot dog-loving, addicted to the TV and so lazy Niko considers his room a bubonic plague-infested minefield. It even extends to their looks, with Cal being an EeriePaleSkinnedBrunette and Niko a DarkSkinnedBlond.
* And in the Literature/CircleOfMagic series, we have Daja's students, identical twins Nia and Jory Bancanor. Nia is shyer and quieter, with woodworking magic, while Jory is louder and more outgoing, with cooking magic. They actually get along quite well, though.
* In Literature/Discworld, this is Enforced by the LawOfNarrativeCausality: since her sister Lily is an ObliviouslyEvil FairyDevilmother, "Granny" Esme Weatherwax has no choice but to be a GoodIsNotNice witch. It's particularly galling because she knows that she would be very good at being a WickedWitch, and unlike her sister, actually recognize and enjoy being evil.
* Flonne and Ozonne of the Franchise/Disgaea novels. Flonne is a nice, Cloudcuckoolander flaky, Moe adorable and optimistic Otaku LoveFreak, while Ozonne is grumpy, rude, Bifauxnen boyish and snarky Money Believer. They can't walk a step without arguing with each other.
* Piccarda is first introduced in Literature/TheDivineComedy by an off-hand reference to her brother, a hideous glutton who is disfigured for his sin in Purgatory. In contrast, Piccarda is a nun who renounced worldly desires and was rewarded for that in Heaven with divine beauty.
* Literature/DoctrineOfLabyrinths:
** Felix and Mildmay were separated as kids and raised in very different environments. Hence Felix is an arrogant, charismatic, extremely powerful wizard with the speech and bearing of an aristocrat, while Mildmay is an awkward, self-effacing, functionally illiterate cat burglar who looks and talks like a street thug. They also have elements of FoolishSiblingResponsibleSibling going on, with Mildmay as the far more grounded and street-wise of the two, and Felix being bratty and temperamental with no common sense. Both have extremely poor mental health, although Felix is notably more unstable.
** Stephen Teverius is dour and pragmatic, and is generally respected if not especially well-liked. His brother Shannon is a fun-loving CampGay who has plenty of admirers but isn't taken very seriously.
* In Literature/TheDresdenFiles, Mab and Titania, the Queens of Faerie, are almost complete opposites. Mab is utterly ruthless and pragmatic, making her decisions entirely on cold logic, whereas Titania follows her heart. The only personality trait they have in common
* Literature/TheEmpiriumTrilogy: Ilmaire is a gentle, even-tempered scholar while his twin sister, Ingrid, is a hotheaded warrior.
* From Literature/EndersGame: Ender's brother Peter is the aggressive, masculine Yang to their sister Valentine's passive, feminine Yin. Peter was rejected from Battle School because he was too prone to violence, while Valentine was rejected because she was too compassionate. Graff tells Ender he has to find the balance between these two emotions in order to be an effective commander.
* Princes Peter and Thomas in Literature/TheEyesOfTheDragon by Creator/StephenKing. Peter is fit and raven-haired like their mother while Thomas is chubby and sandy-haired like their father.
* Literature/Fablehaven has Kendra and Seth Sorenson. Kendra is cautious and thoughtful, Seth is arrogant and brave to the point of stupidity. spoiler: Plus, as revealed in later books, Kendra is fairykind and a friend to light creatures, to the point of glowing herself to those capable of seeing that spectrum, while Seth is a shadow charmer and a friend to dark creatures, able to hide in the shadows. This doesn't stop them from working together brilliantly, though.
* Literature/Flawed: Eldest sister Juniper is awkward, cynical, BookDumb and rebellious; Celestine is popular, intelligent, law-abiding, and logical. It was said that they were very close and very much alike as children but drifted apart as they got older.
* Because they both reacted in very different ways when Alderaan and their family was destroyed, Tash and Zak Arranda of Literature/GalaxyOfFear ended up diverging more. Both are curious kids, but Tash is more withdrawn, empathic, and thinks she has to take care of her brother, who has become more of a daredevil.
* Annie and Lila Little Hawk in Literature/GivesLight. Annie is thoughtful, quickwitted, feisty, and good at cooking and crafts. Little sister Lila is a glutton, a precocious flirt, and a mouthy brat.
* Literature/TheCurseOfCampColdLake from the Literature/Goosebumps series has Sarah, the protagonist, who is the socially awkward sibling to her brother Aaron's much more level-headed attitude who is much more social.
* In Literature/GrandmasterOfDemonicCultivationMoDaoZuShi, most of the siblings act as a Foil to each other.
** Jiang Cheng is stern and easily irritable while Jiang Yanli is kind and gentle. They take after their mother and father respectively.
** Lan Wangji is stoic and aloof while Lan Xichen is friendly and approachable.
** Wen Qing is fierce and direct whereas Wen Ning is shy and nervous.
** Nie Mingjue is a BloodKnight warrior who prefers fighting to poetry and politics. Nie Huaisang is weak at cultivation and prefers gentlemanly pursuits and .
** Jin Zixuan is the only legitimate son of Jin Guangshan and despite his arrogant exterior, he is honorable and kind once you get to know him. His half-brother Jin Guangyao is an illegitimate son who clawed his way to their father's good graces and
* Most sibling relationships in Literature/HarryPotter follow this to some extent:
** Sirius who hates his pureblood-obsessed family and eventually runs away from home. His brother Regulus was proud to be part of said family but Harry eventually learns that Regulus was more like Sirius than anyone would have guessed.
** Their cousins, the Black sisters also count. Bellatrix who is fanatically devoted to Voldemort, Narcissa who is sympathetic to the cause but loyal to her family than him, and last but not least, Andromeda. Not only did she not become a Death Eater, but she also married a muggle-born wizard, produced a daughter who became an Auror, and helps out the Order of the Phoenix, though she's not officially a member herself.
** Harry's mother Lily who was a muggleborn witch and her sister Petunia, who is perfectly normal, thank you very much.
** Bookish Cloudcuckoolander Dumbledore and his BookDumb, down to Earth brother, Aberforth. Although like Sirius and Regulus, these two are more similar than they seem on first glance.
%% Administrivia/ZeroContextExample * Long lost siblings from Literature/Havemercy, mostly because of their wildly different upbringing.
* Katniss and Primrose Everdeen in Literature/TheHungerGames. Katniss is tough, a tomboy, a hunter, has difficulty connecting with people, and resembles their father. Prim, meanwhile, is delicate, sweet, well-liked, a healer and FriendToAllLivingThings who resembles their mother. Despite this, the two are incredibly close.
* Literature/InCryptid has several pairs:
** Elsie and Artie are a succubus and an incubus, respectively, and as different as night and day. Elsie, who has some control over her pheromones, is an outgoing, colorful lesbian, while her brother, who has PowerIncontinence over his LivingAphrodisiac abilities, is a Hikikomori whose only real friends are his sister and cousins.
** Verity and Antimony are a TomboyAndGirlyGirl pair in some ways, though it can be difficult to tell whether Verity is a GirlyGirlWithATomboyStreak or a TomboyWithAGirlyStreak. Antimony is much less friendly with strangers than her sister, though once she becomes friends with someone they're her TrueCompanions. She also complains that Verity doesn't think through the consequences of her actions, like when she .
** A twist with Antimony and James, who didn't grow up with her but who she adopted as a brother when they were both adults (after seeing his bad family situation). Antimony is HotBlooded, appropriate for someone whose specialty is PlayingWithFire, while James is AnIcePerson in both power and personality.
* Literature/InTheSnowsOfHaz: Esmine is cold, analytical, and creepy, while his sister Selette is a sweet and friendly kid.
* Literature/TheInheritanceGames:
** Zara and Skye are presented like this, apparently splitting their father Tobias' most notable traits between them. Zara is shown to be a no-nonsense business woman while Skye is shown to a free-spirited OpenMindedParent.
** Grayson is serious, responsible, and a bit uptight. His half-brother Jameson is rebelious, reckless and treats almost everything like a game.
* In Literature/TheLandOfStories, where Alex is an overachieving "A" student and an optimist in love with fairytales, Conner is extremely lazy in school and a sarcastic skeptic.
* Henry Palace and his sister Nico in Literature/TheLastPoliceman and its two sequels are highly contrasting in that he's quiet and straitlaced while she's rebellious and rambunctious. He's also philosophical about the coming end of the world, and she's determined to avert it somehow.
* The Izzies from Literature/TheMerlinConspiracy by Diana Wynne Jones play with this trope. At any given time, the two girls will take on polar opposite traits; for example one being rude and aggressive while the other is shy and fainting. Then, at random times, they'll switch roles. Twin girls in a magical family where only one can be selected to inherit the family's magic, this is their way of fighting back by making themselves completely indistinguishable.
%% Administrivia/ZeroContextExample * Every sibling pair in Literature/TheMoomins
* Isabelle and Alec Lightwood from Literature/TheMortalInstruments. Isabelle is not averse to showing off her beauty, is generally nicer, and like Jace, always rushing headfirst into demon-slaying. Unlike her, Clary notes that Alec is shyer, easier to guilt, and tries everything he can to downplay the good looks he shares with his sister. .
* Literature/Overenskommelser by Creator/SimonaAhrnstedt:
** Sofia Löwenström is a nearly flawless good-hearted ProperLady, while her brother Edvard is a serial abuser of women and a sadistic sociopath. They only have one thing in common: They are both good-looking. It becomes very clear that Sofia has taken after their ExtremeDoormat mother, while Edvard has taken after their Domestic Abuser father.
** Their father Wilhelm and his brother (Beatrice's father) also seem to have been very different from each other. Wilhelm has no good memories at all of his more intelligent and liberal-minded brother.
* Xiaohui wants to share Literature/Palimpsest with as many people as possible. Her brother puts a lot of effort into keeping any hint of Palimpsest off public forums.
* Literature/Persuasion features radically different Eliot sisters, Anne being friendly, pleasant, and down-to-earth, and her two sisters being selfish hypochondriacs.
* Literature/Phenomena has Alk, a responsible Bookworm and swordsman, and Ilke, an Adorable ActionGirl with ice powers. Their only likeness is that they both are kind and quite badass.
* Literature/Power: Donna is popular and interested in things like fashion and boys. Omishto, meanwhile, is an unassuming and the target of abuse and bullying; in addition, Donna was given a "modern" English name, while Omishto was given a tribal name.
* Also in Austen, Literature/PrideAndPrejudice contrasts intelligent, aware, Elizabeth with her pretty but vain and shallow sisters Kitty and Lydia, who are also compared to Jane, who is beautiful but also extremely sweet and loving, and all of the sisters are compared again with Mary, who is plain, austere and studious.
* Elinor -- the sense -- and Marianne -- the sensibility, an archaic word for romanticism, in Literature/SenseAndSensibility.
* Literature/TheSilmarillion:
** Fëanor and his younger half-brother Fingolfin. Fëanor is a ruthless, arrogant jerk whose actions end up cursing the Noldor and threatens Fingolfin when he thinks they will usurp his place as their father Finwë's heir. Fingolfin is more honourable and heroic and wants to reconcile with his brother.
** Fëanor's third son Celegorm to the oldest son Maedhros. Celegorm is a notoriously cruel Elf, who is possibly the worst of his brothers, showing himself prepared to engage in kinslaying, trying to force Luthien into marriage, and urges Fëanor's sons to wicked deeds. Maedhros comes across as more reasonable and though still an AntiVillain for his pursuit of the Silmarils tries to make up for his wicked deeds. This may be seen when Celegorm has Elflings Eluréd and Elurín abandoned in the forest to starve, at which Maedhros tries to find them but is unable to.
* Literature/ASongOfIceAndFire:
** Most prominently seen with sisters Sansa and Arya Stark, who are each other's complete polar opposites and, as such, never get along. They even look completely different (Sansa has the Tully look inherited from her mother's side while Arya has the Stark look inherited from her father's side.)
** Interestingly, their older brothers Jon and Robb have this too (Jon has the Stark look like Arya, while Robb has the Tully look like Sansa) but, in contrast, Jon and Robb are extremely close as brothers.
--->Jon was slender where Robb was muscular, dark where Robb was fair, graceful and quick where his half brother was strong and fast.
** Also, the vicious Joffrey Baratheon and his gentler little brother Tommen.
** Also, the Baretheon brothers:
*** Stannis (plainer, stricter, more honourable, and not good with people) and Renly (flashy, charismatic, handsome, a SleazyPolitician) Baratheon.
*** Stannis is also this to his older brother King Robert Baratheon, a drunken BloodKnight, charismatic, ReallyGetsAround, but barely rules.
*** The same can be said for Robert and Renly-both are charismatic, but Robert was a serial philanderer while Renly was, to all accounts, devoted to his lover. On the other hand, Robert was a great warrior while Renly was enthusiastic but indifferent at best (Stannis isn't as good as Robert but still a seasoned fighter; his talents lie in being among the best strategists to ever live).
** The Lannister siblings:
*** The twins Jaime and Cersei Lannister seem to be very similar in A Game of Thrones, but when they start getting [=PoV=] chapters and character development in the later books, they move towards this trope. It's particularly in terms of how much morality (and sanity) they retain in any given situation.
*** Jaime and Tyrion are highly contrasted as well. Jaime is tall and handsome, Tyrion is a hideously deformed dwarf. Jaime thinks with his feelings and is a skilled swordsman, Tyrion is incredibly manipulative and fights with his wits. It was said that Jaime was the only one who gave a crap about his younger brother, in fact.
*** Staying within the Lannisters, Tywin Lannister was born to lead, Kevan Lannister born to follow. Luckily for them, they were born in the right order.
** Doran and Oberyn Martell are the SensitiveGuyAndManlyMan combination.
** In the grey-and-black Yin-Yang category, large, muscular EmotionalBruiser Antivillain Sandor Clegane and his huge unrepentant rape-and-murder-machine brother Gregor.
%% Administrivia/ZeroContextExample.** It would be hard to name a pair of Targaryen siblings who weren't like this-often to the benefit of their regime. Visenya and Rhaenys, Maegor and Aenys, Viserys I and Daemon the Rogue Prince, Aegon II and Rhaenyra, Aegon III and Viserys II, Daeron I and Baelor the Blessed, Daena the Defiant and Elaena, Aegon IV and both Aemon the Dragonknight and Queen Naerys, Daemon Blackfyre and Daeron II, Baelor Breakspear and Maekar I, Daeron the Drunken and Aerion Brightflame, Aerion Brightflame and Aegon V, Jaehaerys II and Daeron; just for example.
* Literature/SongOfTheLionesss Alanna and Thom. Alanna is a HotBlooded tomboy who enjoys fighting and friendship and (at first) fears her magic. Thom is a bookworm who wants to be the most powerful mage and shuns friendship because he thinks it's beneath him.
* The Franchise/StarWarsExpandedUniverse has Jacen and Jaina. Oddly, Jaina is more masculine than her brother.
* In Literature/SuperPowereds:
** Angela and Shane Desoto have both inherited their powers from their grandfather : Angela got HardLight and Shane got LivingShadow powers. Angela is a year ahead of Shane at the HCP. While both strive to be the best they can be, Angela is the lively one, enjoying all aspects of being in college (i.e. a party girl). Meanwhile, Shane is focused exclusively on his training at the expense of everything else. His best "friend" is his sparring partner. His sister has to practically force him to go to parties and social outings. To be fair, Angels is the best in her class for all four years, so she doesn't skimp on training either, but Shane feels that she could be way more powerful if she devoted more of her time to improving her abilities. However, Angela was influenced by a late Hero and a friend of her grandfather's, who convinced her to live her life to the fullest because it could end at any time.
** To a smaller extent, this can be said about [[spoiler:Phillip and Charles Adair (AKA Globe and Alchemist). Phillip is older and has always been kind, while also winning the SuperpowerLottery. Meanwhile, Charles may have started out as a decent man, the desperation of trying to help his Powered wife led to him becoming cold and distant to his daughter and ruthless in his business endeavors. He also had no qualms about tricking his brother into killing his best friend and then trying to kill Phillip when the latter found out the truth. Contrast Vince and Alice's childhoods. Vince was homeless and got taken in by Phillip as his own, growing up in love and being taught how to be a good man. Alice was mostly raised by Charles's staff and trained to be a socialite, frequently crying herself to sleep. Vince had nothing, and Alice had everything. Which one of them was happier?]]
* The Literature/SweetValleyHigh franchise is based on this Trope with its protagonists -- identical twin sisters no less. Elizabeth is serious, bookish, a good student, a writer for her High School newspaper, kind to all people in school (her closest friends aren't in the "popular" people club), always tries to help people, has two steady long-term boyfriends during high school, and her clothes are pretty but modest. In contrast, her twin Jessica is a scheming, gossipy, mostly superficial, and frequently lying BrattyTeenageDaughter who only hangs with the popular people, is on the Cheerleading team, goes after boy after boy, and dresses sexy and very fashionably At least that's how the twins are represented; there are Alternative Character Interpretations that Elizabeth is a self-righteous, whiny BitchInSheepsClothing, and Jessica is more spirited, more honestly showing her true self, and at least sometimes feels sorry / apologizes for her actions.. And in each episode, they bicker over their differences but make up in the end.
* "Literature/TalmaGordon": The Gordon sisters. Jeannette is described as tall, dark, and stern, and Talma as a fairylike blonde, sparkling in smiles.
* In the Literature/TanteiTeamKZJikenNote series, there's Aya and her sister Nako. Aya is mildly introverted and constantly worrying, while Nako is energetic and carefree.
%%* Connor and Grace of Literature/Vampirates.
* Literature/WarriorCats:
** Squirrelflight and Leafpool: Leafpool is calm and patient, while Squirrelflight is hot-tempered and hyper. One character even compares them to water and fire when talking about their differences.
** Sparkpelt and Alderheart: Sparkpelt is confident and boisterous, Alderheart is a gentler worrier. Sandstorm tells Alderheart at one point, "Sparkpaw believes she's solved every problem, and you believe you've caused every problem. You're two sides of the same leaf."
%% Administrivia/ZeroContextExample** Bluefur and her sister Snowfur in Bluestar's Prophecy.
* Literature/Wicked: The introverted, atheistic, and blandly dressed Elphaba is the older sister of the sociable, highly religious, and relatively fashionable Nessarose. Their differences are lampshaded repeatedly when Nessa is introduced.
* In Yulia Voznesenskaya's children's book series Yulianna, the trope is invoked when twin sisters are separated when their parents get divorced. Brought up after her mother's death by GrannyClassic, Anna is quiet, pious and obedient. Yulia, thanks to BumblingDad and BitchInSheepsClothing stepmother, is spoiled, arrogant and headstrong.

* Literature/TheAnderssons:
Hannes has dyslexia and
gentle]] he could hardly get a passing grade in Elementary School, so he thinks that he's TheUnfavorite. But if you ask Cecilia, he is free at least bring warring armies to get a job and make money and go anywhere he wants.
* Literature/ArnTheKnightTemplar:
** Arn is a deeply devout, highly trained knight. His brother Eskil is a worldly merchant, fond of silver, food, beer, and salty language. However, Arn points out that the two aren't that different while Eskil has made his name as a financial and political power-player in their homeland, Arn has been a castellan in the Knights Templar,
peace, and the big man in one of their other so wicked he could make the most important trading posts in Outremer, meaning that he has played politics at the top level in the Kingdom of Jerusalem, loving family destroy each other. Their names even reflect this, meaning respectively "friendly one" and while not on Eskil's level, he still has a decent grasp of the realities of commerce and logistics.
** Cecilia is portrayed as a generally good-hearted woman, in huge contrast to her mean shrew of a sister, Katarina, who managed to separate Cecilia and Arn for more than twenty years for selfish reasons. And unlike Arn and Eskil, who always got along despite
"hostile/enemy one." To highlight their differences, Cecilia could not forgive Katarina for what she did to her and Arn, and it seems like the two sisters never saw each other again.
* Literature/TheBabySittersClub:
* Literature/DoctrineOfLabyrinths:
** Felix and Mildmay were separated as kids and raised in very different environments. Hence Felix is an arrogant, charismatic, extremely powerful wizard with the speech and bearing of an aristocrat, while Mildmay is an awkward, self-effacing, functionally illiterate cat burglar who looks and talks like a street thug. They
"Efnysien" also have elements of FoolishSiblingResponsibleSibling going on, with Mildmay as the far more grounded and street-wise of the two, and Felix being bratty and temperamental with no common sense.

* Elinor -- the sense -- and Marianne -- the sensibility, an archaic word for romanticism, in Literature/SenseAndSensibility.
* Literature/TheSilmarillion:
* Literature/ASongOfIceAndFire:
* In Literature/SuperPowereds:
* Literature/WarriorCats:
You're two sides of the same leaf.
means "not Nysien."
%% Administrivia/ZeroContextExample** Bluefur * OlderThanDirt: The Sumerian sun god Utu and her his brother Nergal, god of plague.
* CainAndAbel. Abel loved God and gave him the best of his flocks as part of a sacrifice, while Cain's heart was not really into serving God and he murdered Abel out of jealousy.
* Myth/EgyptianMythology: Osiris was a just, compassionate, and wise ruler, while Set was hard-hearted, self-centered, and violent, killing his brother for the throne of the Earth.
* Izanagi and Izanami of Myth/JapaneseMythology. They both started out as creator gods, but while Izanagi remained one, Izanami sadly became a vengeful one who has vowed to kill a thousand people ever yday. By contrast, Izanagai has vowed to create 1,500 people everyday.
** Their children embody this trope, as well. Amaterasu (the sun goddess) cared greatly for both the humans and the other gods. Tsukuyomi (the moon god), however, was far more critical; this became more apparent during their argument concerning their
sister Snowfur in Bluestar's Prophecy.
* Literature/Wicked: The introverted, atheistic,
Ukemochi's cooking. Tsukuyomi was disgusted by Ukemochi's way of preparing food, and blandly dressed Elphaba is the older sister of the sociable, highly religious, and relatively fashionable Nessarose. Their differences are lampshaded repeatedly when Nessa is introduced.
* In Yulia Voznesenskaya's children's book series Yulianna, the trope is invoked when twin sisters are
killed her for such low standards. This act angered Amaterasu so much that she separated when their parents get divorced. Brought up after her mother's death by GrannyClassic, Anna is quiet, pious from Tsukuyomi out of spite.
* From Guatuso mythology we have Chirrinhque
and obedient. Yulia, thanks to BumblingDad Colúrinhé. The former is the perfect example of antisocial behavior, unruly even towards his relatives, one day he murders a man from another family and BitchInSheepsClothing stepmother, is spoiled, arrogant hides in the jungle. The relatives of the victim eventually capture and headstrong. torture him horribly before killing him. The latter is so good, the Gods order Chirrinhque to bring him to the place of punishment located in the sky and show him the torments he suffers there, afterwards, he is allowed to introduce heavenly fruits into earth and, years later, he is taken by the Gods in body and soul, effectively sparing him the trauma of death.

* The [=McGill=] brothers from Series/BetterCallSaul. Jimmy was a low-life conman who was still likeable for his roguish charm while Chuck was a law-abiding lawyer, upstanding profesionally, but struggles to be as likeable as Jimmy. The latter contrast is revealed to be a source of resentment from Chuck, who secretly hindered Jimmy's attempt to go straight as a lawyer because he doesn't want Jimmy to his equal in the former one. In the present, Jimmy goes back to committing crime even as a lawyer, but is self-aware enough to know what kind of a person he is while Chuck continues to do petty, vindictive, but legal actions towards Jimmy, all while believing he is morally flawless.
* The Booth brothers from Series/Bones -- Booth the elder likes his comfort zone while Booth the younger is flashy and much more upwardly mobile. Dr. Sweets observes that this dichotomy is not atypical spoiler: in victims of childhood abuse. Seeley took on the role of serious protector while the younger Jared took on the role of attention-seeking trouble-maker, both in response to their father's physical abuse of them and their mother. One episode was essentially an in-universe AlternateContinuity short-story being written by Dr. Brennan. In this version, the brothers' personalities remain largely the same, except their roles as protector and trouble-maker are switched with Seeley as a flashy nightclub owner and Jared as a straight-laced police detective.
* Captain Ray Holt and his sister Debbie from Series/BrooklynNineNine. Ray is TheStoic and very closed off emotionally, while Debbie is extremely loud, vivacious and affectionate.
* Pablo and Marcelina Guerra from Series/Carrusel. Pablo is a loud ThePrankster. Marcelina is a ShrinkingViolet.
* Series/CriminalMinds:
** There's also SiblingsInCrime Mason and Lucas Turner. Lucas is huge, overweight, easily confused, violent, and either autistic or mentally handicapped. Mason is short, cold-blooded, highly intelligent, quadripalegic, and unlike DumbMuscle Lucas, fully aware of what they're doing.
** James and Lara Heathridge. James is dominant, physically strong, and is the one who does the actual hunting and killing. Lara is submissive, emotionally fragile and physically handicapped. Also, while they are both delusional, James believes he is on a mission to kill the brides of the devil, while Lara, by the end of the episode, is strongly implied to believe she herself is a bride.
%% Administrivia/ZeroContextExample** Aaron Hotchner and his brother, who appears for exactly two episodes and is only a major focus in one. Perhaps their prominence in the series is another way that they're opposites?
* Series/CSINY:
** Don and Sam Flack. Don is a straight-laced police detective while Sam, his sister, is a recovering alcoholic and has a felony record.
** Danny and Louie Messer. Older brother Louie was a member of The Tanglewood Boys mafia-ish gang for quite a while, whereas Danny took the straight route and became a cop before moving to the crime lab.
** A three-episode arc in Season 7 involves Chief Carver and his sister, whose drug and alcohol abuse led to her abusing and neglecting her three children, often deserting them for days at a time. Carver eventually takes them in and raises them as his own, although they are old enough that they still called him "Uncle."
* Series/Dexter: Dexter who is morally ambiguous, and his brother who is...not.
* Series/DowntonAbbey: Cora is kind, well-mannered, cultured, dresses in SimpleYetOpulent style and has slotted right into life in the English aristocracy. Her brother Harold is a crass, boorish borderline caricature of a NouveauRiche Eagleland American who loves flashy clothes, yachts, and short-term relationships with women half his age. It is, perhaps, telling that their mutual greeting after not having seen each other in years is a wave and a "hello".
* Series/LosEspookys: Renaldo is polite and respectful to his mother, though he maintains his independence and doesn't just go along with whatever she says, and he knows what he wants out of life and pursues it with all his heart. His sister Beatriz, who is about 15 years younger than him, is rude and bratty but will cave into their mother's demands as soon as she meets any resistance, and she tends to latch onto new dreams with great enthusiasm only to lose interest just as quickly.
* Series/Firefly: The Tams. Simon is cooler and calmer and more disciplined, and River is more sensitive and (for obvious reasons) more erratic. On the other hand, she is physically more powerful.
* Series/GameOfThrones:
** Arya and Sansa -- TomboyAndGirlyGirl.
** Robert acts before he thinks, longs for the good old days of killing things, and cheats on his wife with numerous whores, many of whom have produced bastards. Contrast with Renly and Stannis. Renly thinks before he acts, prefers council meetings to hunting, and seems to be faithful to one man that he trusts and listens to. This is also in play with Renly and Stannis. Renly is snarky and fun, beloved by the smallfolk and his bannermen alike, has both a lover and a wife that he loves (albeit in different ways), is willing to break the rules, wants the crown because he desires power and thinks he could do a good job, gets things done with diplomacy, and is somewhat flighty and prone to impracticality (staging a tourney when he'd need all his knights in fighting shape for a war). Stannis, on the other hand, is dour and overly serious, has no social skills and only one friend, has a strained relationship with his unwanted wife, is devoted to rules and laws, only wants the crown out of duty and legal right, gets things done via law or conquest, and is logical and pragmatic.
** Joffrey with both of his siblings; he's a sadistic psychopath, while Myrcella and Tommen are perfectly sane, decent and normal -- in fact, kind and gentle to a fault. This makes Joffrey and Tommen both awful kings for different reasons.
** Kevan is far nicer than his brother, as demonstrated by his relief in seeing Tyrion back safe and sound in "The Pointy End" -- a stark contrast to Tywin's own reaction.
** White-blonde hair and a disproportionate sense of entitlement are pretty much the only traits Daenerys shares with her brother.
** Euron is everything Balon was not. Euron, for all his faults, is brave, proactive, cunning, and willing to make alliances, fight beside his men and actually go out and pay the iron price.
** Euron is also this with Aeron. Euron is a bombastic, arrogant, flamboyant pirate. Aeron is a cold, stoic, solemn Priest.
* On Series/GraceAndFrankie, Brianna & Mallory and Bud & Coyote. Brianna is a tough businesswoman with no desire to even be around kids, while Mallory is a housewife and mother of four. Bud is a responsible lawyer, whereas Coyote is a former professor who had problems with drugs and alcohol, and is now a substitute teacher.
* Series/HankZipzer has the outgoing, funny and creative Hank versus the serious, intellectual and know-it-all Emily.
* Series/Heroes: Hiro and his older sister Kimiko, with Hiro being idealistic, child-like, and bored by the prospect of being a businessman like his father; Kimiko is intelligent, motivated, and ambitious in regards to taking a place within the family's company.
* Subverted by the Stinson brothers in Series/HowIMetYourMother: Barney is white and straight, James is black and gay, but otherwise they are identical.
* Series/KamenRiderGhost: Ganma royal family has Adel, the clean-cut coldhearted pragmatist devoted to the cause and Alain, the obliviously evil PsychopathicManchild confused about emotions and the whole reason behind their kind's crusade. DecadentCourt antics definitely don't make their relationship any easier.
* Series/LegendHeroes: Emotional, self-admitted IdiotHero Liu Bei and stoic, pragmatic Tsundere Gongsun Zhan. He gets them in trouble, is the cause of their PerpetualPoverty and always acts with his heart. She manages the finances, runs the dojo and always thinks in ways of practical life. Liu Bei adores Zhan as his CoolBigSis. She loves him as much as one can love their (somewhat) AnnoyingYoungerSibling.
* Series/LosEspookys has the brainy, practical Úrsula and her ditzy sister Tati.
* Series/Lucifer has Lucifer and Amenadiel. Lucifer is the fun-loving rebel, while Amenadiel is their father's loyal soldier (at least at first). Amenadiel is initially dismissive of humans, but he eventually discovers he enjoys living on Earth and finds life in Heaven to be boring, something Lucifer has known all along. Their middle brother Uriel is cold and calculating, having the loyalty of Amenadiel and Lucifer's moral flexibility. Two of their other (female) siblings are shown, although not long enough to get a good sense of them. Azrael, despite being TheGrimReaper, is actually pretty kind and misses Lucifer. Remiel is more similar to Amenadiel's original personality, but they come into conflict when Remiel comes to Earth to .
* Series/MadMen:
** Anna Draper, widow of the real Don Draper is free-spirited and warm. She has a sister who is sour and uptight.
** Seen also in the Draper children. Sally is aggressive, sometimes a tomboy and sometimes a bully. Bobby is sensitive and quiet.
** Matthew Weiner & Co. must love this trope, as it shows up with PluckyOfficeGirl Peggy Olson and her devout Catholic housewife sister Anita and the sexy, somewhat liberated Megan and her whinier, devout Catholic sister.
* Series/Numb3rs: Don is more "Jock-like" and Charlie is more "Geek-like".
* Elliot and Darlene Alderson from Series/MrRobot. Both are hackers, have revolutionary goals and are more than a bit unhinged (though Elliot definitely surpasses Darlene in that regard) and that's it for similarities. Elliot suffers from social anxiety disorder, hates being touched and is usually very quiet. Darlene is TheCharmer and FemmeFatale, ReallyGetsAround and is incredibly loud and abrasive.
* Jake and Ben Brockman in Series/Outnumbered. Ben is outgoing, wild and wrecks chaos throughout the family, Jake is quiet, serious and often acts as a peacemaker. One of their teachers doesn't even believe they're related.
* Series/Poirot: Susannah and Rosamund in After the Funeral. Blond-haired Susannah does work for the Church, plans to go to Africa with a charity mission and tries to placate her BigScrewedUpFamily. Dark-haired Rosamund is a bohemian, flighty actress who fights over her uncle’s inheritance with her relatives. However, the initially shown contrast is eventually a bit blurred: Susannah can be pretty insensitive at times (), while Rosamund .
* Franchise/PowerRangers
** Vrak and Vekar from Series/PowerRangersMegaforce, two villainous royal brothers, have different approaches in destroying and conquering Earth. Vrak is the cold, manipulative type; while Vekar is compulsive and is not afraid to throw temper tantrums when things don't go his way.
** Sisters Vida and Madison from Series/PowerRangersMysticForce. Vida is aggressive and tomboyish, while Madison is quiet and girly.
* Aunts Lily and Vivian in Series/PushingDaisies are both eccentric shut-ins, but the similarities end there: Vivian is gentle, flighty, and more emotional, while Lily is sharp and snarky, clever, and keeps her soft streak well-hidden.
* Series/ResurrectionErtugrul has Ertugrul and Gundogdu. While the former is typically calm, composed, and perfectly capable of executing his plans in secret, the latter is often loud-mouthed, critical of his younger brother, and prone to having meltdowns. .
* Series/SchittsCreek has David and Alexis. David is dark-haired, insecure, intellectual, pretentious, neat, introverted, has multiple phobias, is prone to worrying and gets depressed while Alexis is blond, confident, anything but book smart, resourceful, rarely feels emotion, extraverted, brave, upbeat and adapts easily to new situations. The siblings bicker a great deal, but they love each other and will stick up for each other
* J.D. and Dan in Series/Scrubs are FoolishSiblingResponsibleSibling, with J.D. being the responsible one and his brother being an immature unsuccessful BasementDweller who mooches off of J.D.
* Justin and Harris Pembleton in Series/SeriouslyWeird. Justin is easygoing, charismatic, popular and is the BigManOnCampus within a few days of starting at Draper High. Harris is an obnoxious, pompous, insufferable, know-it-all NeatFreak who pisses off almost everyone he talks to.
* From BBC's Series/Sherlock, the Holmes brothers are portrayed this way. Sherlock is easily bored and has a tendency to be incautious and oft-dangerously short-sighted when in pursuit of a solution to whatever mystery happens to take his fancy. Mycroft runs a shadowy government agency and is much calmer and more collected than his dramatic, wild brother. This is in contrast to the characters of the original books, where Sherlock was driven and really cared about what he called "his art," while Mycroft was terminally lazy and probably could have been even greater than his brother, if he didn't find the idea of "legwork" detestable.
* Identical twins Katie and Emily Fintch from Series/Skins at least in their first season. Katie is the leader, dresses like sex-on-legs and ReallyGetsAround ("I haven't not had a boyfriend since I was seven"). Emily is eternally in her shadow, dresses slightly more conservative, and falls in love and is monogamous. There is also the tiny little fact that Emily is a closeted LipstickLesbian and Katie is a raging homophobe whose favorite target is the girl that Emily has fallen for.
* Series/StarTrekTheNextGeneration:
** Jean-Luc Picard is TheCaptain, an explorer and adventurer, while his brother Robert is TheDutifulSon who stayed to work the family vineyards and disdains most modern technology.
** Worf is very different than both his adopted and biological brothers. Worf is the dutiful, rule-following paragon while Nikolai is rebellious and impulsive. With Kurn, he is stoic and a bit hidebound while Kurn is a BoisterousBruiser who has no problem drinking and brawling with his enemies before meeting in combat.
** Data has this going on with both of his android brothers, Lore and B-4. Data is TheStoic, TheSmartGuy, unfailingly polite, and highly ethical; by contrast, Lore is TheSociopath, and B-4 is an idiot.
** Downplayed with the Duras sisters, Lursa and B'etor. Although they're ambitious and double-dealing, Lursa, the elder sister, tends to act more straightforward while addressing their enemies, while B'etor isn't above acting flirtatiously towards them.
* Series/Supernatural:
** The Winchester Brothers contrast in many ways. Dean is loud, boorish, slutty and is a BigEater in a nutshell. But he goes quiet when hurting, turns all his angst in on himself and his whole life is wrapped in Sam and his family. Sam is mostly celibate (because of that pesky CartwrightCurse), is never shown eating and tends to be the quiet one while Dean takes control. But he gets louder and more dangerous when he's upset and his main Fatal Flaws are Pride and self-absorption. And he's far more independent than Dean, showing signs of wanting to flee the nest, and, unlike Dean, would probably be able to go on permanently with his life if deprived of his family and hunting. The sex scenes (Dean in "Route 666" and "Heaven and Hell," and Sam in "Heart," "I Know What You Did Last Summer," and "Sex and Violence") show a difference between them too. Sex is fun for Dean; he doesn't mind being pushed down on the bed and letting the woman have her way with him. But for Sam, it's violent, kinky and he has to be the one in control and dominating. Sam and Dean's relationship is a parallel for Michael and Lucifer's, who are ying-yang brothers themselves.
** It's made clear that Sam and Dean's differences stem from their contrasting roles in the family. Dean was forced to be his father's obedient soldier and his brother's caretaker while Sam seems to have been allowed some measure of freedom and innocence. It's revealed for example that a lot of Dean's mannerisms were inherited from his father, thus making it also very likely that Sam's personality is a deliberate attempt to distance himself from his family.
%% Administrivia/ZeroContextExample** Castiel has this with his brothers Gabriel and Balthazar.
* Charlie and Alan Harper from Series/TwoAndAHalfMen. One drinks, gambles, attracts the hottest women like moths to a bulb and lives in a nice house overlooking the beach, while the other doesn't drink (on his best days, anyway), is socially awkward, and is hopeless with women... Oh, and he's also divorced, has a kid, and lives off his brother.
* Series/UltramanRB: Katsumi is the ComicallySerious realist. Isami is an excitable genius in serious need of a CloudcuckoolandersMinder, usually supplied by their sister or, more begrudgingly, his brother.
* Series/TheUmbrellaAcademy has plenty of this between the adoptive super siblings:
** Luther and Five. Both have strong leadership qualities and are considered the most mature. Except that Luther is mostly a GentleGiant who tries to find peaceful solutions to situations, Five on the other hand is a murder happy pint-sized (thanks to messed up TimeTravel) AntiHero who will make any sacrifice to save the world. Also while Luther relies on SuperStrength and SuperToughness, Five utilizes a TeleportSpam as a TimeMaster.
** Diego and Klaus. Both are reclusive and street smart but Diego is TheCowl seeking out crime as a HotBlooded vigilante whilst Klaus is a laid back drug taking NonActionGuy. Both spite their adoptive father Hargreaves but while Klaus has grown past him, Diego was very affected by his father's cruelty to point of developing a stammer.
** Allison and Vanya, the two sisters. The former is incredibly extroverted having become a glamorous actress; the latter is severely introverted (thanks their father's emotional abuse) having grown up to be writer and violinist. .
** Luther and Diego. Both are headstrong and butt heads when it comes to the leading the siblings, but Luther where is straightforward and naive Diego is stealthy and cynical. Luther also wears his heart on his sleeve, while Diego keeps his grief bottled up. Luther also works better up close with GoodOldFisticuffs while Diego with his ImprobableAimingSkills works best from a distance with his throwing knives.
** Klaus and Ghost Ben. Both are easy going and have/had gruesome powers but whereas Ben is brave and believes in doing the right thing, Klaus is cowardly and cares more about himself. Also while Klaus has trouble getting along with his siblings, Ben cherishes them despite being unable to talk them ISeeDeadPeople besides Klaus.
* Series/TheVampireDiaries:
** Damon is the snarky, hotheaded, impulsive pragmatist SociopathicHero to Stefan's milder, thoughtful, (sometimes) idealist FriendlyNeighbourhoodVampire.
** Vicki, a troubled girl addicted to drugs and Matt, a down-to-earth, normal NiceGuy.
** Elena, a friendly, relatable GirlNextDoor and her angsty TroubledButCute younger brother Jeremy. This was most prominent in early seasons, but averted later on the show, especially after Elena turns into a vampire.
* Dick and Beaver on Series/VeronicaMars. Dick is loud, stupid, sex-obsessed and borderline-sociopathic. Beaver is quiet, smart, reclusive and .
* The twin brothers in the "War Zone" episode of Series/TheCloser. One is a dedicated soldier with a spotless record, the other killed a kind old man and a little boy over a six-pack of beer.
* Series/WizardsOfWaverlyPlace has Alex (a mischievous, prankish, lazy, reckless manipulative bitch) and her older brother, Justin (a calm, collected, studious, mature BadassBookworm, bordering on MadScientist -- mad because of Alex).

One episode was essentially an in-universe AlternateContinuity short-story being written by Dr. Brennan. In this version, the brothers' personalities remain largely the same, except their roles as protector and trouble-maker sixteen years apart, don't have too much in common, other than they are switched with Seeley as a flashy nightclub owner and Jared as a straight-laced police detective.
* Captain Ray Holt and his sister Debbie from Series/BrooklynNineNine. Ray
both weird. Goldust is TheStoic and very closed off emotionally, while Debbie is extremely loud, vivacious and affectionate.
* Pablo and Marcelina Guerra from Series/Carrusel. Pablo is a loud ThePrankster. Marcelina is a ShrinkingViolet.
* Series/CriminalMinds:
James is dominant, physically strong,
ambiguously bi, has an electric shock-induced speech impediment and is the one human embodiment of movie criticism, dressing and painting himself like a giant academy award. Cody is a narcissistic dandy who does once became convinced the actual hunting whole world was ugly and killing. Lara resolved to wear a (see-through) mask and put paper bags on everyone's head.
* Wrestling/McMahon and Wrestling/McMahon, Wrestling/VinceMcMahon's kids, especially ever since Shane started getting characterization beyond OverlordJr. Whereas Shane
is submissive, emotionally fragile willing to step into the action and physically handicapped.
* Series/CSINY:
* Series/GameOfThrones:
Euron, for all his faults, is brave, proactive, cunning, and willing to make alliances,
fight beside his men and actually go out and pay the iron price.
* Series/MadMen:
* Franchise/PowerRangers
* Series/StarTrekTheNextGeneration:
With Kurn, he is stoic and a bit hidebound while Kurn is a BoisterousBruiser who has no problem drinking and brawling with his
enemies before meeting in combat.
* Series/Supernatural:
Both are headstrong and butt heads
when it comes to the leading the siblings, but Luther where is straightforward and naive Diego is stealthy and cynical. Luther also wears his heart on his sleeve, while Diego keeps his grief bottled up. Luther also works better up close with GoodOldFisticuffs while Diego with his ImprobableAimingSkills works best from a distance with his throwing knives.
** Klaus and Ghost Ben. Both are easy going and have/had gruesome powers but whereas Ben is brave and believes in doing the
family's honor whether to defend them or right thing, Klaus is cowardly their wrongs, and cares more about himself. Also while Klaus has trouble getting along is otherwise a level-headed businessman who looks out for his personnel and tries to do what's best for the company as a whole, Stephanie is a spotlight-seeking, insufferably smug and petty tyrant who verbally cuts down all the talent around her with his siblings, Ben cherishes either biting condescension or scathing demonic fervor and lords her family's name as well as her gender over everyone and invokes them despite being unable on a constant basis to talk them ISeeDeadPeople besides Klaus.

** Vicki, a troubled girl addicted to drugs and Matt, a down-to-earth, normal NiceGuy.
** Elena, a friendly, relatable GirlNextDoor and her angsty TroubledButCute younger brother Jeremy.
level-headed OnlySaneMan of the team. This was most prominent in early seasons, but averted later on the show, especially after Elena turns before Scott transformed into a vampire.
* Dick
Big Poppa Pump and Beaver on Series/VeronicaMars. Dick is loud, stupid, sex-obsessed and borderline-sociopathic. Beaver is quiet, smart, reclusive and .
* The twin brothers in
the "War Zone" episode of Series/TheCloser.

** Their children embody this trope, as well. Amaterasu (the sun goddess) cared greatly for both the humans and the other gods. Tsukuyomi (the moon god), however, was far more critical; this became more apparent during their argument concerning their sister Ukemochi's cooking. Tsukuyomi was disgusted by Ukemochi's way of preparing food, and killed her for such low standards. This act angered Amaterasu so much that she separated from Tsukuyomi out of spite.
* From Guatuso mythology we have Chirrinhque and Colúrinhé. The former is the perfect example of antisocial behavior, unruly even towards his relatives, one day he murders a man from another family and hides in the jungle. The relatives of the victim eventually capture and torture him horribly before killing him.

* Toys/MilkyWayAndTheGalaxyGirls has Uranus and Neptune. Older sister Uranus is a studious bookworm while the younger Neptune is a very laid-back surfer.
* Toys/MonsterHigh: While not exactly siblings, Jackson Jekyll and Holt Hyde are total opposites who share a body. Jackson is quiet and introverted, while Holt is loud, outgoing, and a part-time DJ. They even have a Yin-Yang symbol as their motif.

* Film/AMaSoeur: Elena is the conventionally attractive knockout who idealizes romance. Anais is the awkward kid sister, but at times shows more maturity than Elena and is not as gullible.
* Creator/MaryKateAndAshleyOlsen often play this role in their movies: either TomboyAndGirlyGirl (with Mary-Kate usually being the former and Ashley the latter) or FoolishSiblingResponsibleSibling (with Mary-Kate usually being the former and Ashley the latter), although they occasionally switch.
* Film/BlackMass: Whitey Bulger is a notorious crime lord, murderer, and all-around sociopath. His brother Billy is not only a straight arrow, but he's also a politician and an 18-year member of the Massachusetts state legislature.
%% Administrivia/ZeroContextExample* Ian (Ewan [=McGregor=]) and Terry (Colin Farrell) in Creator/WoodyAllen's Film/CassandrasDream. Even just visually, the contrast between the brothers is striking, looking nothing alike except for being drop-dead gorgeous.
* Film/Deewaar has calm, humble Ravi and emotional, prideful Vijay. This is reflected in the different ways they help others: Ravi turns down a job so a man who needs it more can get it, whereas Vijay beats up the racketeers extorting his fellow dockworkers.
* The sisters Houseman in Film/DirtyDancing -- flirty, BrainlessBeauty Lisa and naive, studious Baby.
* Like Harry Potter mentioned below, most of the sibling relationships in Film/FantasticBeasts fill this role:
** The Goldstein sisters. Tina is a down-to-earth, career oriented cop who is a bit prissy and is a stickler for rules. Queenie is a flighty flirt who has a menial job (although this is partially due to her being a mind-reader that people can't trust) and doesn't put much stock into staying within the law. They even dress very differently, Tina wears neutral, comfortable clothes while Queenie wears lots of pink and skirts. However, they are very close.
** Newt and his brother Theseus also count. Newt is fine with living his life on the outskirts of Wizarding society and being seen as an oddball for doing what he loves but Theseus is gregarious and a prominent Auror who tries to get Newt back into polite society and to get off the fence in the brewing political tension.
** The series also brings back the relationship between Dumbledore and his brother Aberforth which is explained fully in the aforementioned Harry Potter section.
* Film/GiantLittleOnes: Ballas is a jerkass who never admits he initiated sex with Franky, rather telling everyone it's the opposite and leads them in homophobia against him. Natasha, however, is a very sweet girl who dates Franky and is shamed herself as a slut after she'd actually been raped, handling this with cool grace. They also have opposite hair colors-Ballas' brown, Natasha is blonde.
* Hotblooded Santino and cold-hearted Michael in Film/TheGodfather.
* Film/TheGoodTheBadAndTheUgly has Tuco, who is a HotBlooded bandito, and his brother Pablo, who is TheStoic and became a priest.
* Film/InHerShoes: Rose, the elder sister, is the serious and responsible lawyer. Maggie is the free spirit who can't hold down a job and turns to alcohol and men for emotional support.
* Film/InTheCut: Half-sisters Pauline and Frannie. While Pauline is free-spirited, outgoing, and loves being in relationships, Frannie is more reserved and cautious. Pauline is also more traditional than Frannie in that she’d like to get married and start a family.
* Film/IntoTheForest: A downplayed example. Eva is more emotional, while Nell is more rational.
* Jason's Lyric: Jason is serious, responsible and dutiful. While Joshua is short-tempered, a troublemaker and easily fall in with gangsters.
** Lyric is the innocent sister who has a decent job as a waitress. Her brother, Alonzo "A-1", is a vicious gangster.
* Zach and Gray in Film/JurassicWorld. Zach is tough, aloof, cynical and (at least initially) unimpressed with the park and thinks it's for little kids. Gray is nice, optimistic, energetic, and is a die-hard dinosaur fan who loves the park.
* Carefree, irresponsible David and frustrated TheDutifulSon Albert in Film/TheKingsSpeech.
* In Film/LaPielQueHabito (The Skin I Live In), we learn that Robert and Zeca are brothers, with one child being bright and obedient and growing up to be a famous doctor, and the other going off to deal drugs at age seven and turning out as a killer and robber. However, by her own admission, [[spoiler:they are both monsters, they just expressed it in different ways]].
* Franchise/MarvelCinematicUniverse:
** Thor and Loki. In Film/Thor, the eponymous character starts as a BoisterousBruiser who takes in the attention without realizing how destructive and reckless he is. Loki is the opposite, being quiet and preferring to use trickery and illusions. By Film/2012, By Film/ThorRagnarok,
** Thor and , who is even more murderous and vindictive than Loki. In Film/ThorRagnarok, she makes her youngest brother look like a model citizen by comparison, and she's, in Thor's own words, "The worst."
** In Film/BlackPanther we have T'Challa and Shuri, he's a physical powerhouse and tactician while she's a TeenGenius whose quick with a HandBlast. T'Challa is also very stoic and mature while Shuri is jokey and even outright crass.
** Film/GuardiansOfTheGalaxy has adoptive (fellow abductees) sisters Gamora and Nebula, apart from the former being green and the latter blue both are cyborgs but Gamora is compassionate while Nebula is merciless. spoiler: Inverted in Film/AvengersEndgame Nebula thanks to CharacterDevelopment is a completely compassionate and heroic while thanks to TimeTravel Gamora is cold and introverted lacking the development she gain over the course of the Guardian of the Galaxies movies.
** Film/AvengersInfinityWar has Ebony Maw and Cull Obsidian, the latter is a TheBrute who smashes his problems, while the former is a EvilSorcerer who uses careful and deadly methods to achieve his goals.
* In Film/Nope the main characters are siblings OJ and Emerald Haywood. OJ runs the family ranch after the death of their father and has a natural affinity for horses, but is soft-spoken and vastly prefers horses over people. Em on the other hand is outgoing and vivacious with a mind for business, but is flaky and only helps with the ranch in her spare time.
* Downplayed in Film/ThePrestige with [[spoiler:the Borden twins. We don't see much of them as individuals, but one is a family man who loves their wife and daughter and recommends just letting the rivalry with Angier die. Meanwhile the other is more aggressive, loves their assistant/mistress and sneaks into Angier's performance to learn how he performs "The Transported Man".]]
* Film/Scanners gives us the telepaths Cameron Vale and . The former is reserved, methodical and loyal. The latter is emotional, bloodthirsty and manipulative. This was probably done on purpose to contrast their separate motivations for helping their own kind.
* In Film/SecondhandLions, both Hub and Garth are old men who had many adventures in their lives, but in the end, Garth is the more calm, bookish one who could sit back and relax while Hub was looking for adventure and had no trouble beating up five punks after getting out of the hospital.
* Film/SlumdogMillionaire: Jamal and Salim; Jamal is a quiet and studious boy who followed the law (even in the CrapsackWorld that is the Indian slums) and tried to stick with his friends no matter what, while Salim was always more boisterous and eventually fell in with gangsters and shunned Jamal up until the very end.
* According to their Tech Specs, Skids and Mudflap from the Film/TransformersFilmSeries are this... with the caveat that they're both quite stupid. Skids merely believes he's the smart one.
* Film/Sweetie: While Kay is repressed and paranoid, Sweetie is the exact opposite—wild and uncontrollable.
* Film/WhiteWolves II: Legend of the Wild: Mason is a cocky paraglider, while his brother Jeff is a nervous ExtremeDoormat.
* Film/XMenFilmSeries:
** Film/XMenDaysOfFuturePast: Eleven years after Film/XMenFirstClass, Charles and Raven have not only become estranged but also polar opposites in almost every way, especially in regards to ideology and diplomacy. Her as originally believed, though.
** Film/XMenApocalypse: Although Charles and Raven are on better terms than in Days of Future Past, they still strongly disagree over how humans in general treat mutants. He believes the world is gradually becoming more tolerant of their kind, but she has seen with her own eyes that there's still a lot of oppression. This article uses the metaphor of Xavier being a peaceful dove and Mystique is an aggressive hawk.
--->Charles: I have plans for this place. I mean to turn it into a real campus, a university. Not just for mutants, either; for humans, too. Living and working, growing together.\\
Raven: You know, I really believed that once. I really believed we can change them.\\
Charles: We did.\\
Raven: Just because there's not a war, doesn't mean there's peace. You wanna teach your kids something, teach them that, teach them to fight, otherwise they might as well live in this house for the rest of their lives.

%%* Steve and Hailey in WesternAnimation/AmericanDad.
* Franchise/AvatarTheLastAirbender:
** Katara and Sokka. The latter is sarcastic, cynical and TheSmartGuy, while the former is the open, idealistic TeamMom.
** The HotBlooded Zuko and the cool, manipulative Azula are as different as red and blue. While Zuko learned the basics of firebending, like breathing techniques, Azula is a ChildProdigy who focused on the more glamorous aspects, like blue fire and lightningbending. Zuko ultimately learns to value his friends, while Azula tried to control them with fear, .
** The series also contrasts Iroh, who raised his nephew Zuko like a son, and Ozai, who mistreated and banished him.
** Mako and Bolin grew up on the streets, but while Mako is a broody, dark, TroubledButCute firebender devoted to winning the probending league and protecting his little brother, Bolin's a boisterous, fun-loving, earthbending ladies' man.
** Tenzin's daughters Ikki and Jinora. Jinora is a well-read ShrinkingViolet and the Girly Girl to Ikki's garrulous, high octane Tomboy personality.
** Tenzin has this relationship with his older siblings, Kya II and Bumi II. When they were children, Tenzin was very serious, while his siblings were rather rambunctious. In the present, Tenzin is serious (usually), bald, burdened with a large responsibility, and monk-like while Bumi is "a wild man" in the armed forces of the United Republic with a head full of AnimeHair; meanwhile, Kya is unmarried and traveled all over the world to "find herself" (which Tenzin saw as abandoning her family), while Tenzin settled down and had a large family. Tenzin and Kya are also elemental benders with deep spiritual ties, while Bumi is a BadAssNormaluntil Harmonic Convergence, when military man/walking disaster area.
** Between Korra's father Tonraq and her uncle Unalaq. The younger brother, Unalaq, is ambitious, focused on spiritual concerns, and feels driven to lead his people, while the older brother, Tonraq, is unambitious, focused on physical strength, and decidedly non-spiritual.
** Lin and Suyin Beifong. Lin highly values law and order, never wanted children and is generally very cold, serious and bitter. Suyin, on the other hand, was a teenage rebel, and still does not like authority too much, but highly values family, having five children of her own, and appears to be rather warm and open toward other people.
** Desna is the OnlySaneMan as he becomes concerned about his father's EvilPlan, while his twin sister Eska is the more abusive psycho towards Bolin.
** Suyin's children: Huan is the EmoTeen, Wei and Wing are BashBrothers, Opal is sweet and honest, and Bataar Jr. is, well, TheDragon to his fiance Kuvira, let alone being a jerk towards his mother, who considers him as a BlackSheep of the family.
** Noatak/[[spoiler:Amon wants to take over Republic City out of a genuine desire to bring equality between benders and non-benders.]] His brother Tarrlok is purely interested in gaining political power for himself. Their approach is also markedly different; Tarrlok is a politician using the crisis to more or less legally consolidate power, while is a terrorist advocating the violent overthrow of the government
* Finn and Jake from WesternAnimation/AdventureTime. Finn is an optimistic and off-the-walls energetic BadassNormal, and his adopted brother Jake (who’s also a dog) is a super-powerful but lazy couch potato with a more realistic view of life who tags along on adventures mostly to make Finn happy
%%* Ben and Gwen on WesternAnimation/Ben10. Cousins, but close enough.
* The Belcher kids on WesternAnimation/BobsBurgers. The eldest daughter Tina is anxious, soft-spoken, and self-effacing, although boy-crazy. The youngest daughter is a snarky LargeHam and proud schemer. Between them is the lone son Gene, a scatterbrained CheerfulChild.
* Huey and Riley in WesternAnimation/TheBoondocks. Riley is more foolish and impressionable, tends ot act rashly and desperatly wants to be a "gangster", while Huey is responsible, levelheaded, and deeply contemplative.
%%* Carl and Chloe in WesternAnimation/CarlSquared.
* The Interesting Twins From Beneath The Mountain in WesternAnimation/CodenameKidsNextDoor; "Sister" is domineering and driven by emotion, while "Brother" is more reserved and rational. To drive the point home, the birthmarks on their faces are literally the two halves of Yin and Yang.
* Danny and Jazz in WesternAnimation/DannyPhantom. Danny is insecure, rash and powerful, while Jazz is book-smart, confident and collected.
* Daria and Quinn in WesternAnimation/Daria. Daria is a snarky, cynical, intellectual girl, Quinn is a shallow, vain LovableAlphaBitch.
* Dexter is a ChildProdigy and Dee Dee is TheDitz in WesternAnimation/DextersLaboratory, although Dee Dee has been portrayed as actually being smarter, or at least more experienced, on occasion.
%%* Doug and Judy from WesternAnimation/Doug.
* Zack and Wheezie of WesternAnimation/DragonTales are the SavvyGuyEnergeticGirl type. Not only that, but they are also two halves of a two-headed dragon.
* The brothers Dijon and Poupon in WesternAnimation/DuckTales1987. Dijon is an IneffectualSympatheticVillain with StickyFingers, whereas Poupon is a virtuous monk and a member of the order that guards the Golden Goose.
* Sarah, a TinyTyrannicalGirl with a HairTriggerTemper, and Ed, a GentleGiant Ditz, in WesternAnimation/EdEddNEddy.
* Vicky, a complete sadist, and Tootie, a sweet if somewhat clingy girl, in WesternAnimation/TheFairlyOddParents. While Vicky likes tormenting the main protagonist Timmy Turner, Tootie loves Timmy Turner with a passion.
* WesternAnimation/FamilyGuy:
** Chris is a FatIdiot like his father, while Stewie is a BrainyBaby and EvilGenius. Meg has this with both of them, to some extent.
** Lois and her younger sister Carol. Lois comes off as an assertive Jerkass in an unhappy marriage with a FatIdiot, while her younger sister Carol is a meek, NiceGirl who has problems keeping a man.
* PJ and Pistol on WesternAnimation/GoofTroop. PJ is rational, conciliatory, timid, and somewhat melancholy due to being emotionally abused. Pistol, on the other hand, is hyperactive, HalfPint, talkative, and very cheerful... which may be because she's Brat. Strangely, episodes that play them as Satellite Characters to one of their parents show them agreeing surprisingly often.
* WesternAnimation/GravityFalls:
** The Pines Twins: Dipper is TheSmartGuy with a slight cynical side, while Mabel is energetic and a Cloudcuckoolander.
** [[spoiler: The elder set of Pines twins, Stanford and Stanley, contrast even more. Stanley was a lazy joker who had dreams of going on adventures and finding his fortune, while Stanford was a serious student who wanted to go to a good college and explore the supernatural ForScience. As they grew older, Stanley became a ConMan who shunned anything supernatural, while Stanford's explorations nearly made him GoMadFromTheRevelation but never stopped him from continuing his research, much to Stanley's annoyance and ultimately the world's detriment.]]
* Helga and Olga Pataki on WesternAnimation/HeyArnold. Neither one of them turned out too well due to their parents, but Helga is an angry Tsundere who bullies others, often unconsciously, but Olga is a perfectionist StepfordSmiler NervousWreck.
%%* Yin and Yang from the WesternAnimation/Histeria episode "Return to China".
* Ang and Ling in WesternAnimation/LegendOfTheDragon. Ang is an easy-going, self-effacing hero, and Ling is an intense, ambitious AntiVillain (later AntiHero). She even gets her powers from "the darkest Yin".
* Girly-girl/Beauty queen Lola and tomboy/dirt-loving Lana are twin sisters on WesternAnimation/TheLoudHouse.
** In contrast to the Loud parents, Mrs. Maria Santiago has only two children: Bobby and Ronnie Anne. These two couldn't be more different, and not just in terms of gender. Ronnie Anne is a tomboyish LovingBully to Lincoln, while Bobby is an all-loving NiceGuy who is InTouchWithHisFeminineSide and treats Lori with respect. Ronnie is also smart and can be a cunning schemer when she wants to be, while Bobby is very much a KindheartedSimpleton.
* WesternAnimation/MiraculousLadybug:
** Twin siblings Luka and Juleka. Juleka is quiet and shy, Luka is laid back and sociable.
** Chloé and her half-sister Zoé: Chloé is the AlphaBitch, Zoé is actually nice.
* WesternAnimation/MissionHill: Andy and Kevin French. The former is a StreetSmart slacker who is quite savvy and able to be quite brilliant on the fly when the scenario calls for it, all the while being a sarcastic snarker and complete womanizer. The latter is an absolute genius at academics but so socially inept and sheltered he can hardly fend for himself outside of the classroom, and an overly enthusiastic mommy's boy. Andy is openly an EthicalSlut but completely willing to leave a woman hanging just to look out for his brother, while the latter claims to be against anything even remotely sexual but is secretly enthralled by pornography.
* WesternAnimation/MuchaLucha: The Flea and Pulgita, the latter being the sane man to the former.
* Franchise/MyLittlePony:
** WesternAnimation/MyLittlePonyFriendshipIsMagic:
*** Princess Celestia and Princess Luna. Celestia, who controls the day, is gentle, motherly, and a bit mischievous, while Luna, who controls the night, is stern, overly formal, and a bit bad-tempered (as seen in "Luna Eclipsed"). That may be a side effect of being sealed in the moon for a thousand years, though. (It's eventually revealed that part of Luna's behavior is due to the guilt she feels over her time as Nightmare Moon.)
*** Pinkie Pie and her sister Maud. Pinkie's a brightly-colored FunPersonified ball of AttentionDeficitOohShiny energy. Maud's a grey-colored, rock-obsessed EmotionlessGirl.
*** As seen in "Hearthbreakers", this goes for Pinkie's other sisters as well. Pinkie is friendly, welcoming, and fun-loving, while Limestone is gruff, bad-tempered, and serious. Pinkie is talkative and outgoing, while her twin sister Marble is quiet and bashful.
** Franchise/MyLittlePonyGeneration5: The pegasus siblings Pipp Petals and Zipp Storm share a TomboyAndGirlyGirl dynamic, with Zipp being a RebelliousPrincess and dissatisfied with the ruses the royal family puts up and Pipp being a popular IdolSinger who's entirely satisfied with their current lifestyle.
* WesternAnimation/OverTheGardenWall: Wirt is a shy OnlySaneMan who occasional lapses into melodrama and despair, while his younger half-brother Greg is a kooky CheerfulChild who Determinator refuses to ever give up.
* WesternAnimation/PhineasAndFerb:
** Phineas and Ferb, though they share the love of inventions, tend to contrast each other in some ways, though their differences seem more complementary than opposed; Phineas is the more talkative ideas guy while Ferb is TheQuietOne who builds all the inventions Phineas thinks up. For that matter, either/both of them contrast their older sister Candace, a shrill NervousWreck who wants nothing more than a quiet, unexciting summer, and will go out of her way to try and get the duo caught by their parents.
** There's also Dr. Heinz Doofenshmirtz and his brother, Roger. Heinz is a bumbling, incompetent MadScientist and TheUnfavorite of his mother, while Roger is TheAce, mayor of Danville, and favored by his parents to comedically exaggerated levels.
* WesternAnimation/ThePowerpuffGirls have Buttercup, a tough angry tomboy, and Bubbles, a gentle GirlyGirl, who almost never gets mad. Blossom is somewhere between them personality-wise, but she also is the most intelligent one.
* WesternAnimation/PuppyInMyPocketAdventuresInPocketville: Ava is older,presumably, as she's the monarch and lines of succession traditionally go to whoever's the eldest child of the monarch. girly, and kind to her subjects and is very naive. Her twin Eva is younger, tomboyish, and incredibly brave, Jerkass but absolutely cruel towards everyone, including her own lackeys and especially her sister.
* WesternAnimation/ReadyJetGo: : Celery contrasts with her brother, Zucchini. Celery is a very good driver and is also quite smart, having a job as a travel writer. Zucchini, on the other hand, has a job as a garbageman and is quite dumb from time to time.
* WesternAnimation/Reboot: Megabyte and Hexadecimal are two virus siblings. Megabyte is egomaniacal, sophisticated, well-mannered, calm and collected, and desires to have Mainframe placed under his orderly rule. Hexadecimal is sporatic, prone to wild mood swings, and loves chaos for the sake of chaos.
%% Administrivia/ZeroContextExample* Riley and Todd from WesternAnimation/TheReplacements.
* Bart, a lazy delinquent, and Lisa, a socially-aware academic, in WesternAnimation/TheSimpsons. Incidentally, their parents contrast each other similarly.
* WesternAnimation/SouthPark: Stan is (usually) very mild-mannered and easygoing, whereas his sister Shelly is extremely hot-headed and borderline unstable.
* WesternAnimation/StarWarsTheCloneWars:
** The Daughter and the Son are literal examples of this trope, as they are representing the Light and TheDarkSide of the Force respectively.
** It is revealed as of "Lawless" that [[spoiler:Satine and Bo-Katan]] are this in the more general sense. Despite their differences, however, the latter was very much broken up .
** Savage Oppress and are this as well. While they are both powerful and clever Sith warriors, the former, while far from stupid, is not much of a thinker, bluntly straightforward, honorable despite his darker nature, and content with staying in his brother's shadow. In contrast, , while very much a fighter, is much more cunning, charismatic, manipulative, cruel, and ambitious.
* WesternAnimation/StormHawks: Among the two Cyclonian siblings, Ravess is a cultured perfectionist and Snipe is a gluttonous slob. Repton and Lugey could count too: Repton is a cunning, brutal and vicious ringleader whilst Lugey is a dim-witted, oafish and AffablyEvil subordinate.
* In WesternAnimation/StreetFighter, Akuma and his brother Gouken (Ryu and Ken's martial arts master). Gouken was happy that he and Akuma were chosen by their master to be training partners, as they were the first set of siblings in their school's history to be paired up like this. Akuma was less than thrilled since this only emphasized how different they were. Their master paired them up specifically because they were almost polar opposites since their school's philosophy stated that this was the best way to encourage growth. Gouken was as peaceful as Akuma was vicious. This is true to the source material: Gouken purged their school's martial art of its murderous aspects, while Akuma embraced and refined them.
%% Administrivia/ZeroContextExample* This is played up with Mario and Luigi even more in Series/TheSuperMarioBrosSuperShow cartoons. In the [=SMB3=] Bully and either Kooky or Big Mouth seem to fit the trope.
* WesternAnimation/TeenTitans:
** Starfire and Blackfire. Starfire is nice and sweet. Blackfire is cruel and sinister.
** The thoughtful, pacifistic, somewhat clingy Thunder and hotheaded, independent, pyro/electromaniacal Lightning.
%% Administrivia/ZeroContextExample** Mas y Menos even though in their case they're on the same side.
%% Administrivia/ZeroContextExample* Several sibling pairs in WesternAnimation/TheAmazingChanAndTheChanClan: Stanley and Henry, Suzie and Anne, Anne and Tom.
* Hank and Dean, the eponymous Venture Brothers, have grown to become this in later seasons. Dean is a nerdy, frail, non-confrontational NonActionGuy who is being groomed for a career as a super scientist, while Hank is an underachiever and wannabe ActionHero.
* WesternAnimation/YinYangYo:
** Carl and Herman, with Carl's magic and strategy being contrasted by Herman's muscle and brute force. "Dojo Alone" showed that, if they ever worked together, they'd be unstoppable, but they can't stand each other.
** Yin and Yang coping with each others' differences is quite a major part of the series. While Yin is studious, feminine, and a magic user, Yang is rather idiotic, rough, and prefers to use might over magic.
* Evangelyne and Cleophee in WesternAnimation/Wakfu. Eva fits the ArcherArchetype, while Cleo is more reckless and prefers hand-to-hand combat.
* The royal siblings of Meridian in WesternAnimation/WITCH. Elyon is sweet, lighthearted, cheerful, and loving, and genuinely wants to help her people, while Phobos is cruel, cold, and evil, draining power from Meridian and imprisoning anyone who disagrees with him.

His older sister Kazuki is outgoing, boyish and shameless within her own house.
* Manga/BakusouKyoudaiLetsAndGo has the eponymous Seiba siblings. The older brother, Retsu, is level-headed and careful while the younger one, Go, is Hotblooded and reckless. Their traits show in their representative racing machines.
* Karin and Yuzu Kurosaki of Manga/Bleach, with Yuzu as a sweet GirlNextDoor and Karin as a rough tomboy.
* Jun Ushiro and his sister Kana in Manga/Bokurano. She is sweet, shy, and forgiving, he is violent and brooding.
* Manga/CaseClosed:
** Masao and Sanae Kouda look nothing alike. Sanae is a pretty OfficeLady, Masao has a huge case of FaceOfAThug. Despite this, the siblings are very close... [[spoiler: so when Sanae is killed by Watanuki, a man in debt that she was visiting for work reasons, Masao goes KnightTemplarBigBrother and decides to prove it at all costs. Even by robbing a bank and hiding his loot near the man's backyard to force the police dig in so they can find Sanae's corpse.]]
** The Suzuki sisters, too. Older sister Ayako is a soft-spoken and mature Ojou, younger sister Sonoko is an outspoken fashionista.
* Anime/CodeGeass has the proud and xenophobic LadyOfWar Cornelia li Britannia, and her little sister, the self-deprecating WideEyedIdealist Euphemia li Britannia.
* Goura and Yumoto of Anime/CuteHighEarthDefenseClubLove. One's a manly woodchopper, one's a hyper teenager who loves cuddling fluffy things. (However, there is one mutual thing about these two -- love for each other in the "family" sense.)
* HotBlooded FieryRedhead Apollo and DefrostingIceQueen EeriePaleSkinnedBrunette Artemis in Manga/Cyborg 009.
* The Yamai twins in LightNovel/DateALive, while similar in appearance, are very different in personality and speech. Kaguya is childish, impulsive, and speaks in a bombastic manner because she thinks as a Spirit she needs to sound cool. Yuzuru is cool-headed, prone to pointing out Kaguya's mistakes, and speaks in a flat-toned robotic manner.
* Yoh and Minatsuki in Manga/DeadmanWonderland are an interesting case: both are liars, cowards, and opportunists, but Yoh may be fundamentally a caring guy while his sister is a Yandere.
* Light and his sister in Manga/DeathNote. Their only common points are that they are both good-looking and respected. She is a nice, ordinary person, he is a freakishly intelligent WellIntentionedExtremist with sociopathic tendencies and a AGodAmI god complex.
%%** Also Near and Mello, when you consider that they were raised side by side.
* In Manga/TheDemonGirlNextDoor, Yuko is a bit of an airhead that has no real demonic ambitions -- despite a descendant of Myth/Lilith -- beyond breaking the seal (and she hardly even does that). Her little sister Ryoko is an incredibly intelligent girl who aspires to help her sister conquer the world.

* Soma and Kanna from Devil & Devil. Soma is a weak ocult otaku and Kanna is a violent rebel. It doesn't help that they each get possessed by the devil Sword and the angel Ios respectably.
* Kouichi Kimura and Kouji Minamoto of Anime/DigimonFrontier. Aside from being twins, the holders of the spirits of Light and Darkness, and having the entire SeparatedAtBirth thing going for them, there's even an episode named "The Brothers Yin and Yang."
* Twin examples: Risa and Riku in Manga/DNAngel; Vash and Knives in Manga/Trigun; Abel and Cain in LightNovel/TrinityBlood; Metatron and Sandalphon in Manga/AngelSanctuary; in Manga/ChronoCrusade; Suboshi and Amiboshi in Manga/FushigiYuugi. Also as is often the case for the twin archetype, which some scholars view as a sub-category of the hermaphrodite archetype (seriously), one twin is gendered more 'feminine' (Risa, Vash, Abel, , arguably Metatron) and the other more 'masculine' (Riku, Knives, Cain, , Sandalphon). (This has nothing to do with sexual orientation.)
* This trope is even lampshaded by the twins in Manga/DNAngel:
-->Riku: We have absolutely nothing in common!\\
Risa: Nothing at all!
* Anime/DoraemonNobitaAndTheKnightsOnDinosaurs introduces the titular dinosaur knight, Banhou, who saves the gang when they were stranded underground and allows them to stay at his place, the other person there being Banhou's younger sister Roo. Banhou, being a knight, is a fearsome, dangerous opponent, a capable warrior on the battlefield who slays hostile Naga tribespeople without breaking a sweat; Banhou's sister Roo on the other hand is a gentle nurse who helps the army as a caretaker.
* In Franchise/DragonBall:
** Gohan is polite and well-mannered and sees fighting as only a last resort when necessary. Goten sees fighting as more of a game, having not gone through the same kind of life-or-death battles as his big brother until Majin Buu was reawakened. Ten years later in Anime/DragonBallGT, Goten has lost his borderline BloodKnight attitude and is more interested in girls, another contrast to his older brother, who was apparently ObliviousToLove and married his first girlfriend.
** Goku is a NiceGuy and SpiritedCompetitor who loves to fight but dislikes wanton killing and would never harm innocent people. His brother Raditz is a cruel DirtyCoward who enjoys killing and routinely liquidates entire planets for money. They are both like and unlike most other Saiyans in completely opposite ways.
** Vegeta is constantly tense and angry, extremely proud, brutish, has a hard time expressing affection even for his own family, and like all Saiyans, is a major BloodKnight. His brother Tarble (introduced in a 2009 TV special) is gentle, polite, self-effacing, and was actually sent to a remote planet by King Vegeta because of his utter lack of battle instincts. Their taste in wives is also completely different: Vegeta gets with Bulma, a headstrong, brassy, and cunning PluckyGirl (and was the only person who not only put up with Vegeta's crap, but could occasionally bring him in line), while Tarble marries Gure, a very sweet and gentle alien who's the definition of YamatoNadeshiko.
** The Muten Roshi and the Uranai Baba. The Muten Roshi is a DirtyOldMan who uses KiManipulation, the Uranai Baba is a CoolOldLady who uses MagicAndPowers. They're both very wise and tricky though. The Muten Roshi, however, isn't nearly as greedy as her older sister, though.
** Bulma and her rarely seen older sister Tights. While Bulma is bossy, easily angered and vain, Tights is quite calm, easy going and modest. Though as Manga/JacoTheGalacticPatrolman shows Tights can get fiery as her sister when pushed hard enough.
** Tao Pai Pai and his brother, the Crane Hermit. Tao Pai Pai is headstrong and precise, the Crane Hermit is cautious and has others do his dirty work.
** In Anime/DragonBallGT there’s Nuova and Eis Shenron. Nuova is a NobleDemon who avoids harming innocents and unfair advantages, while Eis is a DirtyCoward who literally does everything he can to win.
** GT gives this dynamic to aka Android 17 and 18. While 18 has mellowed out and become compassionate having settled down with Krillin and has a daughter with him, 17 much like his psychotic BadFuture counterpart still thinks everything is a game and is disgusted by his sister bonding with humans. In DBZ and Anime/DragonBallSuper 17 and 18 are much closer in personality with the only noticeable differences is that 17 is more cocky and battle loving than 18 but also less cautious (which gets him absorbed by Cell quicker). 18 also loves clothes and shopping, which bores 17 to tears.
* LightNovel/Durarara:
** Heiwajima Shizuo and his brother Kasuka. Shizuo's a violent maniac with unbelievable physical strength, while his brother is extremely taciturn and doesn't seem to show any fear of his brother's temper or power. Their relationship is actually very healthy, if low-key.
** Izaya's younger twin sisters, Mairu and Kururi Orihara are cute siblings who are just as quirky as their older brother. Both are capable enough to deal with people, without being potentially villainous like their brother.
* Unsui and Agon of Manga/Eyeshield21. Unsui is serious, responsible, hard working, and polite. Agon is arrogant, self-centered, sadistic, and lazy.
* Rogue and Sting from Manga/FairyTail (who might not be related but were at least raised as brothers) are big on this. Sting uses 'white' magic, is always very in your face, shows interest in almost everything going on, and is only concerned with strength. Rogue uses 'shadow' magic, generally lets Sting do the talking, acts uninterested in evverything, and places value on comradery.
* Raoh and Toki from Manga/FistOfTheNorthStar: one of them is a merciless conqueror and the other is a messianic healer.
* Manga/FrankenFran:
** InvokedTrope with Fran and Veronica, who were outright made to be this. Fran was made to preserve life (which can lead to unpleasant results); Veronica was made to end it (which she prefers to do swiftly and painlessly, though often gratuitously). Fran has tried to put Veronica more on her side of the scale, but so far, no dice.
** And then there's their aloof older sister Gavrill, who's ChaoticEvil (she can shapeshift into a near-invincible giant wolf-thing and loves finding excuses to kill people as painfully and gruesomely as possible), though this somehow doesn't stop her from having a day job as a beloved high school guidance counselor. Neither Fran or Veronica enjoy interacting with her, though they managed a truce with big sis sometime after she tried to murder them both.
* Yuki and Ayame in Manga/FruitsBasket. Ayame is the AlwaysCamp AloofBigBrother, while Yuki is the PrincelyYoungMan with an InstantFanclub. Yuki doesn't find Ayame very bearable, while Ayame insists he's showing support for his younger brother. He really doesn't get it.
* Manga/FullmetalAlchemist:
** Edward and Alphonse Elric. While Ed is a HotBlooded Napoleon, Al is a GentleGiant, though he is only big because he's stuck in a suit of armor (at least in the manga, in the 2003 anime he's shown in adulthood to tower over Ed).
** Alex and Olivier Armstrong. Alex Armstrong is the almost grotesquely overmuscled poster boy for PecFlex and prone to fits of staggering overacting at every possible opportunity, often with ManlyTears, and he's actually a total softy. His older sister Olivier is a BadassNormal of epic proportions, a slim, MagnificentBitch SocialDarwinist LadyOfWar who can call Ed short without him even trying to argue and has no compunction about killing representatives from Central because they tried to get her involved in a soul-stealing murder conspiracy that amounts to betraying the whole country, and tried to AFatherToHisMen take her men away, and pushing their bodies into wet concrete.
** The 2003 anime version and light novels also have Fletcher and Russel Tringham, who present many parallels with the Elric brothers. So much so that not only do they impersonate the Elrics at least twice, there's a certain amount of Sibling Yin Yang between respective imposters-the Tringhams fulfill a certain amount of the expectation of what you're going to get with the Elrics, which is quite different from what you actually get. Aside from the fact that each Tringham has an ego that matches his respective Elric.
** The 2003 anime also has and . is a murderous villain while his half-brothers are
* Anime/FutureGPXCyberFormula has Osamu and Asuka Sugo. Osamu is a calm, level-headed individual while Asuka is more energetic and cheerful. Franz Heinel and his younger sister Lisa counts as well, with the same personalities as Osamu and Asuka has.
* The Tomokanes -- both without a name -- in Manga/GAGeijutsukaArtDesignClass. The younger Tomokane is a Bokukko, while her elder brother is a DelicateAndSickly NonActionGuy. This is lampshaded when the younger Tomokane's class teacher first sees the older Tomokane, and comments how the two's characters complement each other. This trope is also invoked in this case, as the younger Tomokane's personality is shaped as a response by her brother's constant mental bullying and exploitation of his illness to avoid punishment.
* In LightNovel/TheGardenOfSinners, Azaka is special, and is attracted to things that are IJustWantToBeSpecial special. This is in contrast with everyone else in the cast, but particularly with her brother... The normal guy.
%% Administrivia/ZeroContextExample. Please add how Kumi is different form Mashiba.* In Manga/HajimeNoIppo, there's Kumi Mashiba, Ippo's main love-interest and her big brother, Ryo 'The Executioner' Mashiba, an angry and brooding boxer who eagerly uses intimidation-tactics and fouls to beat down his opponents, and just generally comes across as a borderline psychopath. About the only person who's NOT scared of him is Kumi, who has been known to slap him to the floor when he got out of hand. spoiler:There's also the fact that Mashiba practically raised Kumi ever since they were orphaned in an accident, so only she and one of his bosses know how hard Mashiba has worked to take care of her. The scene where this softer side of his' was shown was quite the TearJerker in the anime.
* Webcomic/HetaliaAxisPowers:
** North Italy is cheerful and friendly, while South Italy is Tsundere more reserved and unfriendly, especially towards North Italy's partner in crime Germany and his ex-caretaker, Spain.
** Switzerland and Liechtenstein also fit this trope (though Liech is adopted) with Switzerland being a moody gunslinger and Liechtenstein being a gentle and kind TokenMiniMoe.
** America and Canada: The first is a loud, outgoing mix of Eagleland archtypes and BoisterousBruiser; the second is much more quiet, sensible, and overlooked. Ironically, it's implied that secretly both wish they were more like one another, with Canada wishing people would notice him more like in America's case, whereas America wishes he'd get along with others as well as Canada does.
** Germany and Prussia, too. Germany being a PerpetualFrowner and Prussia being a HotBlooded JerkAss.
** Ukraine and Belarus fit as well. Ukraine is a sweet, sensitive, hardworking, tomboyish NaiveEverygirl TeamMom, and Belarus being a creepy, ElegantGothicLolita Psychopathic Womanchild with Yandere tendencies. There's also that Ukraine has tried to leave Russia and she can be passive-aggressive towards him (though she still very much loves her siblings) while Belarus loves and adores Russia to the point of stalking and desiring to marry him.
** Netherland and Belgium. He's a brooding Tsundere with a ScarfOfAsskicking and a penchant for smoking, she's a cheerful CoolBigSis with a SweetTooth.
** When Prussia interacts with the Grimm brothers, they're portrayed as this: older brother Jakob is shown as a serious Workaholic and a bit of a NervousWreck, while younger brother Wilhelm is a more relaxed NiceGuy.
%% Administrivia/ZeroContextExample** China with any of his siblings, but most seen when he interacts with his adopted brother, Japan.
%%* Yoh and his sister in Manga/HighSchoolDebut.
* LightNovel/InfiniteStratos has the Shinonono sisters, Tabane and Houki. The older is very silly, while the younger is very serious.
* Yori and her sister Mari (not the eponymous character) from Manga/InsideMari. Mari is nice, sociable young woman while her little sister is an introverted teenager with a temper.
* Manga/IThinkOurSonIsGay: The older son Hiroki is very expressive and can't tell a lie to save his life. The younger son Yuuri is a quiet, deadpan stoic. They like these qualities in each other: Hiroki appreciates Yuuri matter-of-factly talking about things he struggles to, and Yuuri admires Hiroki's emotional openness.
%%** Akito and his sister fit the bill as well.
* Manga/KaruraMau is based around this concept, with sisters Shoko and Maiko being respectively a BrainyBrunette and a FieryRedhead who must combine their powers in order to fight evil.
* Anime/KillLaKill gives us . The former is a LargeHam and HotBlooded, with a tendency to charge in, sword-swinging, without any thought for the long term. The latter is a ColdHam, only ChewingTheScenery when their sibling is nearby, and their plan involves backstabbing their own mother (literally and figuratively), built up over years upon years of pretending to be loyal.
* Tiff and Tuff in Anime/KirbyRightBackAtYa. Tiff is ProperlyParanoid; Tuff is impulsive.
* Yui and Ui Hirasawa of Manga/KOn are a Cloudcuckoolander and mature young lady respectively.
%%* Hansel and Gretel in Manga/LudwigKakumei... somewhat.
* Nove and Wendi from Franchise/LyricalNanoha, the inseparable red-headed duo amongst the Numbers sisters, [[spoiler:and later, amongst the Nakajima sisters]], with Nove as the always angry one and Wendi as the always happy one. In [=ViVid=], Nove has eventually lost her angry attitude, but is still serious and more mature, and additionally has the responsibility to train the main characters.
%% Administrivia/ZeroContextExample. How is Fate different from her sister?** PlayedForDrama in the first season, where Fate being different than her "older sister" caused her mother to turn abusive.
* The Chizeta princesses from Manga/MagicKnightRayearth: Tarta the younger is loud, rude, and HotBlooded while Tatra the elder is quiet, polite, and a total pushover (apparently), which is probably why the younger sister seems to be the leader.
* The biological siblings in the TabletopGame/shogi manga Manga/MarchComesInLikeALion had different reactions when a young shogi phenom entered their household and took their place in their obsessive shogi-master father's heart (shogi is everything to him and they just weren't talented at it): the brother became increasingly passive and played video games all day while the sister became a vicious bully who terrorized her foster-brother at home -- and possibly in bed. As young adults the foster-brother (who's still/barely present in high school) lives alone because he didn't want to destroy their family like a cuckoo chick; the brother is a divorced loser, and the sister, who is "as beautiful as a demon" is dating her father's and foster-brother's Jerkass shogi rival, who also happens to have a hospitalized wife and young child.
* Manga/MermaidMelodyPichiPichiPitch uses it repeatedly. Caren is a brooding, grudge-holding BrokenBird, while her twin sister Noel is a forgiving, self-sacrificing NiceGirl. When Caren got nicer and, as a result, dropped OutOfFocus, she became a loud party girl to keep the opposite dynamic going. There's also . Lucia and Nikora, though only posing as sisters, fit it too with TheDitz versus the TeamMom. In fact, it's even lampshaded in the Black Beauty Sisters, who are also definitely not sisters.
* Anime/MobileSuitGundam:
** Sayla Mass and Char Aznable. She's a hero, he's a villain. She's loyal to the core, he has ChronicBackstabbingDisorder. She's got a boatload of ShipTease with Amuro. He wants Amuro's head on a pike. She doesn't want revenge for their father's death, Char is consumed by the need for it. She's naturally empathetic, Char suffers from LackOfEmpathy. The two of them have absolutely nothing in common, and are on opposite sides of the war, yet somehow avoid CainAndAbel.
** The show also features the Zabi siblings who manage to be a four man version of this. On the one side you have antivillains Dozle and Garma. Both take care of their men, love their significant others, have passionate attitudes, and respect their father, sharing many personality traits despite their very different appearances (Dozle is TheBrute, Garma TheDarkChick). Contrasting them are Gihren and Kycilia, a pair of manipulative, cold-blooded social climbers who believe that WeHaveReserves, break the rules of war left, right, and centre, and make no real connections with anyone besides themselves (though Gihren is the worse of the two in this regard). Appropriately, Garma and Dozle quite like each other, while Kycilia and Gihren hate one another.
* Anime/MobileSuitGundamAGE has Zeheart Galette and Desil Galette. Zeheart's a pretty nice guy & cares about his friends despite his loyalty to Vagan. Desil on the other hand is an AxCrazy BloodKnight who views soldiers, for Vagan and the Earth Federal Forces, as his own toys.
* Anna and Johan in Manga/Monster. Anna is outgoing, compassionate, helpful and an idealistic humanist. Johan is quiet, introspective, manipulative and an utter sociopath. And he's the title character.
* Manga/MyDressUpDarling: Sajuna is small, moody, uptight, and outspoken, while her younger sister Shinju is tall, easygoing, mild-mannered, and shy.
* Manga/Naruto:
** Samui is stoic, calculating and very serious at all times. On the other hand, her brother Atsui is HotBlooded, rash and a reckless loudmouth. To drive the point home, their names mean Cold and Hot respectively.
** The Sasuke and Itachi dynamic plays with this. As a child, Sasuke strived to be like Itachi to earn recognition, but his brother was always several steps ahead. After the Uchiha massacre, Sasuke tried to distance himself from Itachi and become different from him, even refusing to obtain power in the same way as his brother. However, after , Sasuke drastically changes, becoming driven by hate and revenge against anyone who would stand against him, unlike his brother, who was motivated by Ironically, Sasuke would have ended up very similar to Itachi, had the latter not traumatized him in the way he did. Another factor that makes these two different from each other, is that Sasuke is a BrutallyHonest individual, while Itachi is a ConsummateLiar.
** The First and Second leaders of Konoha were the Senju brothers: the elder was a laid-back, almost goofy straight-haired brunette who wanted to make peace with the Uchihas while the younger was a CombatPragmatist with spiky white hair who thought it would be safer to just kill them all (their middle brother had both types of hair, split down the middle, ).
** Hinata and Hanabi are presented this way post-Shippuden, as shown in Anime/TheLastNarutoTheMovie. Hinata is soft-spoken (though not shy like she used to be) while her younger sister Hanabi is quite perky and outspoken.
* In Manga/NekoDeGomen, this trope applies to the contrasts between Minoru and his younger brother, Masaru.
** Minoru is socially awkward, sees Yaoyi as his OneTrueLove, and considers any other girl he's around as JustFriends. Masaru is an outgoing, self-confident KidAnova who relishes the attention he attracts from many other girls who fawn over him -- except for Eiko.
** While they're raised in a rich household, Minoru is more frugal with his expenses (except for when he spends money going on a date with or buying presents for Yayoi), whereas Masaru isn't above buying fancy clothes for himself when he sees fit.
** Minoru has a severe fear of cats, but Masaru loves them. This plays out in the different ways Yayoi, who is a CatGirl herself, interacts with them: Yayoi does her best to keep her CatGirl identity a secret from Minoru while viewing him as her OneTrueLove, whereas she is oblivious about Masaru's knowledge regarding her CatGirl identity and views herself and Masaru as JustFriends.
* The Jigokumeguri sisters in Manga/Ojojojo are complete opposites in how they act and how they really are. Haru is a JerkWithAHeartOfGold who has been acting stuck up as a defense mechanism for so long that she can't stop despite wanting to be nice. Aki is a BitchInSheepsClothing who would like nothing more than to dig up dirt on Haru and take her place as heiress. The only thing they have in common is their complete failure to act on their real intentions (Haru ends up reflexively acting like a RichBitch whenever she tries to be nice and Aki's attempts to drive Haru and Tsurezure apart bring them closer together).
* Manga/OnePiece:
** Ace is more level-headed and polite than his brash and much more ditzy little brother Luffy. Even Luffy's crew have expressed disbelief at how different Ace is from their captain.
** Similarly, Nami and her adoptive sister Nojiko. While the former is a bold and FieryRedhead, the latter is incredibly calm. Both sisters are tattooed and very compassionate when they want to be.
** Franky is this with Iceburg, though they are adoptive siblings. Throughout their childhood, Iceburg was the dutiful, respectful sibling while Franky was violent and disruptive.
** And then there are
** Donquixote Doflamingo and spoiler: his brother Donquixote Rosinante besides the fact Doffy is a Pirate and Rosinate is an undercover Marine, Domflamingo is a cruel and selfish Sadist while Rosinante is compassionate and selfless. Doffy exemplifies noble bigotry while Rosinante humbled himself and became better for it.
** Sanji :
*** spoiler: Yonji is petty and conveying while Sanji is honorable and merciful. Also while Sanji willingly let him himself get beat up and defeated to protect his loved ones, Yonji is a SoreLoser who blusters over Sanji defeating him.
*** .
*** [[spoiler: Ichiji is stoically cold and aloof compared to Sanji who is often HotBlooded, but Ichiji also thinks commoners are trash and dismisses his own sister for being weak when she gets knocked down by Emperor Big Mom. Sanji on the other hand will feed anyone his cooking and can see and bring out the inner strength in the physically weakest people e.g Usopp in Enies Lobby]].
*** [[spoiler: Reiju while immensely more moral than her brothers still differs from her favorite bro Sanji, while she’s merely flirtatious he’s a complete HandsomeLech. Reiju also can’t fathom why Sanji sacrifices himself to protect someone (Zeff) as she’s lived a life of luxury while he almost died sailing the East Blue]].
** The Charlotte family:
*** Katakuri and Charlotte Perospero, both are the eldest brothers of their siblings but while Katakuri is massive, ripped, and surprisingly compassionate, Perospero is weedy, creepy, and cruel. Katakuri will even hurt himself to make it a fair fight and respects his opponents while Perospero likes to KickTheDog and mock his foes at their lowest.
*** Speaking of the Charlotte Family, Pudding and Chiffon count as while they’re both cooks spoiler: Pudding is CuteAndPsycho due years of abuse causing her to be cruel to others while she’s actually full of self-loathing. Chiffon despite suffering similar abuse came out a better person who never took out her suffering on others.
** Momonosuke and his sister Hiyori, as kids she was playful and tomboyish while he is bookish and stubborn. 20 years later things are different, Hiyori is a persuasive young woman while thanks to TimeTravel Momonosuke is still a BrattyHalfPint.
* Manga/OtomeNoIroha features Iroha and Hifumi as MasculineGirlFeminineBoy (respectively), prior to their GenderBender.
* Manga/OuranHighSchoolHostClub:
** Umehito Nekozawa and his younger sister Kirimi. He's dark, brooding and extremely photosensitive, while she's cheerful, outgoing, and hates dark places.
** The Hitachiin twins have some of this as well, although only when they are separated. Hikaru keeps the trouble-making personality (with some added Tsundere) whereas Kaoru is much more mature.
* The eponymous sisters of Anime/PantyAndStockingWithGarterbelt. Panty is HotBlooded, dresses very skimpily, uses a gun, is very messy, and desires to have sex above all else. Stocking is much more reserved, dresses very elegantly, uses swords, is a bit of a NeatFreak, and has a vice in the form of sweets. Naturally, they're constantly at each other's throats.
%%* Tetsunosuke and Tatsunosuke in Manga/PeacemakerKurogane.
* Anime/PokemonTheSeries:
** From the Diamond and Pearl saga, there's Paul and his older brother Reggie. Paul is an unemotional Jerkass who obsessively trains to be the strongest. In comparison, Reggie is friendly, outgoing and laid-back, having given up competitive battling to focus on other dreams.
** Striaton Gym Leader Chili is this with his brothers Cilan and Cress (who are Gym Leaders as well). Chili is hotheaded and feisty while Cilan and Cress are laid back and calm.
** From the Sun and Moon series, there's Lillie and Gladion. Much like in the games, Lillie is a sweet, friendly girl while Gladion is stoic, brooding loner.
* VisualNovel/Polyphonica has the Yugiri sisters. Persete is the outgoing one, Prinesca is the shy one.
* Manga/TheQuintessentialQuintuplets: The Nakano sisters all contrast themselves one way or another. Here are some of the most notable dynamics:
** Ichika and Nino: Ichika is a lazy slob, while Nino is hardworking when it comes to minding the house. While Ichika is passive and tends to take a supporting role towards her sisters, Nino is more aggressive in pursuing her interests. Ichika also tends to tease others while Nino bluntly states what is on her mind. While the latter had the courage to deliver a second (and unambiguous) LoveConfession to Fuutarou after he didn't hear her first one, the former did not even have the courage to do this, and resorted to disguising herself as Miku in order to convey her feelings to Fuutarou.
** Nino and Miku: Nino is boisterous and abrasive, while Miku is quiet and soft-spoken. Nino is also a social butterfly and actively tries to be fashionable through expensive clothes, spa treatments and manicures, while Miku is a loner, tends to keep to herself, and an UnkemptBeauty that does not concern herself much with her appearance. Nino is also a SupremeChef, while Miku is a LethalChef. The former is the first to unambiguously deliver a LoveConfession to Fuutarou, while the latter is the first to openly fall for him.
** Miku and Yotsuba: Miku is rather reserved and introverted, while Yotsuba is more hyper and extroverted. The former is the smartest out of the quintuplets, while the latter is the least intelligent. However, the former is also the least athletic while the latter's athleticism is the highest. The former is noted to be the most skilled at disguising herself as her sisters (and thus lying), while the latter is terrible at it and CannotTellALie.
** Nino and Itsuki: Both are Harsh type Tsunderes, but Nino is somewhat more mature in her temperament than Itsuki (who is far more prone to childish sulking and pouting). Interestingly, the dynamic flips somewhat after a few months, with Itsuki being more accepting of Fuutarou as their tutor (perhaps due to being sympathetic to his economical struggles) and even defending him from Nino when she goes too far.
* Miki and Kozue from Anime/RevolutionaryGirlUtena. Miki is a polite NiceGuy (though with more issues than it seems) while Kozue is a yandere with some HotBlooded touches.
* Anime/SailorMoon: Usagi is a sweet and cheerful idealist, very outgoing and surrounds herself with friends, but she's also totally unfocused, naïve and a terrible student. Shingo is a sensible kid with top grades, but often moody, snarky and cynical, and he seems to enjoy his own company. About the only common bond they have is a fondness for video games. Both get better, though.
* Manga/SaintSeiya:
** Ikki (rough, aloof, JerkWithAHeartOfGold) and Shun (gentle, MartialPacifist, selfless).
** Also Saga (thoughtful, wise, just ) and Kanon (selfish, scheming, arrogant )
* Manga/Saki:
** The eponymous main character is friendly to others, with a shy and nervous side that often comes up. Her older sister Teru is confident yet embittered.
** Kuro Matsumi is outgoing and cheerful, although said confidence takes a blow when she goes up against strong opponents and loses points. Her older sister Yuu is a shy, timid ill girl, who nevertheless can become especially determined for the sake of her younger sister.
** Hiroe Atago is a loud, outspoken JerkWithAHeartOfGold who is unshakably confident in her abilities. Her younger sister Kinue is mild-mannered and desperately seeks her sister's approval.
* trope in Manga/SakuraTrick: While Yuu is short, immature and only good at sports and her older sister Mitsuki is tall, more mature and not good at sports at all, they share a lot of similarities as well, including sharing the TrademarkFavoriteFood and the same crush.
* Manga/SandChronicles has Fuji and Shiika of the Tsukishima family. Fuji is the aloof, cynical and cold brother, Shiika is the sweet, optimistic and helpful sister. Naturally, the two aren't close at all to begin with.
* Manga/SgtFrog has the Hinata sibings, unassertive bookworm Fuyuki and bossy tomboy Natsumi. Even their names contrast, containing the kanji for "winter" and "summer" respectively.
* Another twin example: Yoh and Hao from Manga/ShamanKing. Hao is an evil ManipulativeBastard while Yoh is a straight-up AllLovingHero.
* Minatsu and Mafuyu Shiina in LightNovel/StudentCouncilsDiscretion. Minatsu is busty, loves sports and isn't afraid to speak her mind. Mafuyu is petite and quiet.
* They're not actually related, but Anime/TengenToppaGurrenLaganns Simon and Kamina were definitely designed to fit the trope -- Simon is shy, relatively sensible, quiet and intelligent, where Kamina is outgoing, reckless, big-mouthed and something of an idiot. Their respective appearances couldn't be much more different, either; Simon is short (prior to the Timeskip, anyway), pale and skinny with dark purple hair and blue eyes, where Kamina is tall, tan and muscular with bright blue hair and red eyes. Finally, in case all of that wasn't quite unsubtle enough, their names also contrast: Simon's name comes from "shimo", the Japanese word for "below", and Kamina's name comes from "kami", the Japanese word for "above".
* Kotetsu and Muramasa Kaburagi from Anime/TigerAndBunny. Kotetsu is an impulsive, HotBlooded, dorky AscendedFanboy superhero, whereas Muramasa is his down-to-earth, low key, responsible older brother who runs the family liquor store.
* Mirai from Anime/TokyoMagnitude8 is a cynical, moody teenage girl while her little brother Yuuki is an optimistic CheerfulChild. Mirai thinks of Yuuki as an AnnoyingYoungerSibling due to their personality differences.
* Manga/Touch1981 has Kazuya and Tatsuya, the former being a serious, hard-working student and sportsman in contrast with her laid-back, lazy brother. This is deliberate on Tatsuya's part, since he refuses to overshadow his brother in any way, shape or form.
%%* Freya and Loki from UnbreakableMachineDoll are Hinata and Neji as albinos with EmpathicWeapon[=s=].
* The Nitori siblings of Manga/WanderingSon couldn't be more different. Big Sister Maho is outgoing and pushy. Little Sister Shuuichi is timid and docile. This actually gets Hangingd by the pair's father, who relates to Shuu a story of their grandmother betting Maho would be a boy and Shuu a girl before they were born. Given the family's recent discovery of Shuuichi's issues, Nitori Sr. wonders if Grandma was really so wrong about them.
* Shun from Manga/YouAndMe is docile, cute, and feminine. His younger brother Fuyuki is rude, aggressive, and perverted.
* Franchise/YuGiOh: A common theme within the franchise, especially if they are of the opposite sex.
** Anime/YuGiOh:
*** Jounouchi and his younger sister Shizuka, which is also made poignant due to them living under different households after their parents divorced. Jounouchi spent a good chunk of his life being "raised" by his abusive, constantly drunk father, thus Jounouchi becoming a thug and brawler, but gave up his delinquent days after becoming friends with Yugi, and eventually becoming a respectable Duelist. Shizuka is kind and sweet-hearted girl, but also rather naive, and she is neither a Duelist nor violent. The one character trait they do have in common is that they are both not hesistant to jump into the water for someone else's sake.
*** Ishizu and Marik. Ishizu firmly believes in destiny, stays loyal to her family tradition and the Nameless Pharaoh, and she fights for the good. Marik has always desired to leave his underground home, has developed a SuperpoweredEvilSide to cope for his trauma, then he eventually becomes a criminal bent on revenge on the Nameless Pharaoh because he thought the Pharaoh was responsible for the death of his (abusive) father. The 4Kids localization has turned Marik more into a power-hungry criminal than a revenge-driven one.
** Anime/YuGiOhGX:
*** The Marufuji brothers, Sho and his older brother Ryo a.k.a. Kaiser. Sho is short, looks nerdy, and at the beginning of the series, he has severe confidence issues, resulting him enrolling the Osiris Red Dorm (the worst dorm) during his first year. Kaiser, on the hand, is not only very confident, but also TheAce of the entire school, and he's TallDarkAndHandsome. The two eventually go very different paths from season 2 onwards. Sho becomes much more confident in himself, resulting him being promoted into the Ra Yellow Dorm (and eventually the Obelisk Blue Dorm during his third year), whereas as Kaiser has stepped into a darker, violent path that harms both, his opponent and himself during Dueling; now being nicknamed Hell Kaiser. Their decks are also different from each other. They both use Machine decks, but Sho uses Roids, which look like cartoonish toy vehicles and machines, whereas Kaiser uses the much more menacing looking Cyber Dragons, other animalistic looking Cyber monsters, and the even more draconic Cyberdark monsters. Their respective character developments ultimately lead to Kaiser retiring from Dueling as a consequence of his health issues caused by the misuse of his Cyberdark monsters, and Sho inheriting Kaiser's deck, but without the issues that his brother had to endure.
*** Asuka and her older brother Fubuki. Asuka is a "cool beauty" type of character and uses the feminine Cyber Angel deck, whereas Fubuki often acts like cheery weirdo, with hidden a darkness inside of him, an entity that is literally named Darkness. Fubuki's deck is more masculine, using Beast Warriors and Dragons, particularly the Red-Eyes archetype.
** Anime/YuGiOh5Ds: This is played very straight with Luca and her older twin brother Lua. Luca is quiet, responsible, has some little confident issues, but is very skilled, but with no desire to become a Pro Duelist. She also has a connection to the Duel Spirit World, and fittingly has a mystical nature-themed deck. Lua is loud, overconfident and brash, he dreams to become a Pro Duelist, but he's not nearly as skilled as his sister is, he has no connection to the Spirit World, but has a spiritual connection to his sister instead, and his deck is a Deformer/Morphtronic deck, Machine monsters that take the form between robots and household machines like Transformers.
** Anime/YuGiOhZexal:
*** Yuma is loud and a bit obnoxious, and the Foolish Sibling to his mature adult sister's Responsible Sibling. Yuma is a Duelist, whereas Akari is never seen dueling.
*** The Kamishiro twins, Ryoga (a.k.a. Shark) and Rio, both use WATER decks, but Shark's deck is Shark-themed and masculine, whereas as Rio's deck is themed after ice birds and has more feminine monsters. Personality-wise, there isn't a stark contrast between the two, other than the fact that Shark is more aggressive and quite emotional, whereas Rio is a more sociable person. People even end up comparing Rio as a female version of Shark.
** Anime/YuGiOhArcV:
*** Reiji is a young CEO, very analytical and planning, and quite a stoic and confident person. Layra is a shy and quiet kid, who lacks confidence and also has some severe PTSD.
*** Kurosaki and his younger sister Ruri use both bird-themed decks, with Kurosaki using the very mechanical Raid Raptors/Raidraptors, which are based on predatory birds, whereas Ruri uses the very humanoid and harpy-like Lyrical Luscinia/Lyrilusc monsters. Both of their decks heavily side on WeakButSkilled and compensate for it with their ZergRush strategy to summon their also WeakButSkilled Xyz Monsters, but Kurosaki's Xyz Monsters evolve into bigger, stronger monsters and most of his Xyz Monsters are designed to destroy opposing Special Summoned monsters, whereas Ruri's Xyz Monsters mainly stay weak, revolve around having as many Over Ray Units as possible and attack the opponent directly instead. Kurosaki is a brooding stoic with a nonsense attitude who has difficult time befriending people outside his home dimension, whereas Ruri is friendly, more sociable, but has some deep confidence issues.
