As a medic, their initial use was loading damaged Autobots onto his sick bay, but they're quite useful in combat. Interestingly, he also had an [[{{EMP}} Electromagnetic Pulse Generator]] that functioned entirely differently, instantly knocking out any Transformer in its beam. Electromagnetism is a strange beast.
