* DeconstructedCharacterArchetype: Of IdiotHero. Nagi is good at defeating anything in front of him. Unfortunately that's all he's good at. Turns out that Cosmo Entelecheia ultimately has a noble goal (if not so noble means to achieve said goal), and Nagi never considers that there's a compromise to be made and a reason (namely ) they do what they do.

* BadassCrew: Princess Arika said she had no fear about all the nations in the Magic World being after Ala Rubra because its warriors were the strongest. And indeed, they never lost a battle in the war.
* BreakingTheFellowship: They all went their separate ways after the great war. Nagi disappeared after the birth of his son, Rakan stayed at the Magical World, Eishun married into the Konoe family and became head of the Kansai Magic Association, Albireo took residence in the ruins beneath Library Island, and Zect's whereabouts are never revealed.
* EarlyBirdCameo: At the end of the Kyoto arc, Negi visits Nagi's old house and finds a picture of all the members of Ala Rubra. Besides Nagi and Eishun, the rest of Ala Rubra are introduced until much later in the manga.
* FamedInStory: They're celebrities in the Magic World because of their great heroic feats in the great war.
* HeroOfAnotherStory: According to Rakan, Ala Rubra's adventures would need at least three full movies and over fourteen manga volumes to illustrate, but we're never gonna see them because they're not what this series is about.
* PyrrhicVictory: They defeated the constructs of Cosmo Entelecheia, Nagi destroyed the body of the Lifemaker, and the ritual to erase the Magic World was stopped thanks to Arika ordering her fleet to seal the power of Magic Cancel. However, Arika's FloatingContinent fell from the sky as a side effect of Asuna's sealing ritual and although almost all civilians were evacuated, they ended up as refugees or slaves in other nations. Arika was thrown in jail for two years and only barely saved by Nagi at her execution. The worst part is Ala Rubra failed to truly stop Cosmo Entelecheia at all because the Lifemaker possessed Zect and went on to create more minions to eventually try and erase the Magic World again. In the end, Ala Rubra only managed to delay their enemies' plans for a couple of decades.
* ToBeLawfulOrGood: When Arika was going to be executed by the Megalomesembria senate as sentence for the collapse of Ostia and some added false charges, Ala Rubra knew that helping Arika would make the senate persecute them even more than before. However, they still went to rescue Arika because they knew the queen was a good person and deserved happiness with Nagi.

* HundredPercentAdorationRating: Arika was beloved by the people of Ostia. Only a handful of them resented her for the destruction of their country.
-->Tosaka: Back when she was a princess before the war, Arika-sama used to associate with the common people without any regard for her position. And everyone loved her for it. I was lucky enough to see her up close myself, just the once. I remember wondering if this is what angels are like.
* AntiquatedLinguistics: She speaks in an archaic Japanese dialect.
* ArmorPiercingSlap: As a RunningGag, whenever Nagi says or does something stupid in front of Arika, in the next panel he has a slap mark on his face.
* BelligerentSexualTension: Whenever she and Nagi talked, he said something rude or perverted and Arika slapped him. It was obvious how they really felt about each other, though.
* BigDamnHeroes:
** When Cosmo Entelecheia finished their doomsday ritual and Ala Rubra thought everything was lost, Arika showed up leading TheCavalry and managed to eliminate the ball of light that would have erased the Magic World.
** By the time Ala Rubra and Cosmo Entelechia are already fighting head-to-head, as seen in Fate's flashback, she's shown saving Nagi when he's nearly beaten by Secundum.
* BigGood: During the great war, Arika was the authoritative figure that commanded Ala Rubra while they fought to save the Magic World from Cosmo Entelecheia.
* BuxomIsBetter: Nagi liked to compliment Arika's breasts, which always got him a good smackdown from her.
* TheChainsOfCommanding: At the end of the war, Arika needed to be willing to destroy her own kingdom as the price to stop Cosmo Entelecheia's ritual from erasing the Magic World. With her leadership, the Ostian population was successfully evacuated with a miraculously low percentage of casualties. That still wasn't enough to bring Arika any consolation for her sacrifice.
* ChronicHeroSyndrome: During the collapse of Ostia, Arika gave absolute orders to her forces to save every last civilian and evacuate them to safety. She went as far as to abandon her fleet to protect the people of the slums that were having trouble evacuating.
* CleavageWindow: Her white dress has an opening that shows off her cleavage.
* CryCute: After Nagi saves from her execution and kisses her, Arika can no longer repress the sadness bottled up throughout two years in prison and her stoic façade breaks as she starts shedding tears.
* DamselInDistress: The day she was going to be executed, Nagi jumped into a canyon full of magic monsters to get Arika out of it because he believed getting Arika as his "reward" made it WorthIt.
* DeathFakedForYou: Nagi saved her from the Megalomesembrian Senate, but in a way that made it look like the execution succeeded so the public would think the infamous Queen of Calamity was dead and Arika could be free to run away with Nagi.
* DefrostingIceQueen: During her first appearance in flashbacks, we see that she was very standoffish and seemingly emotionless when she allied herself with Ala Rubra. After the war, she could show her softer side to Nagi since fighting alongside him made her fall in love with him.
* DemotedToSatelliteLoveInterest: In the first part of the Ala Rubra saga, Arika is a very influential authority figure and Ala Rubra's most valuable ally in the war, to the point she was the one who gathered enough allies to contain Asuna's AntiMagic that would have erased the Magic World. In the second part, Arika loses her kingdom and is sentenced to death by the Megalomesembria senate, reducing her to a DamselInDistress so Nagi can pull off a heroic rescue and ask her to marry him. The story never bothers to address what became of her after that point and there's not even a confirmation of whether she died after the birth of her son Negi.
* DoesNotKnowHowToSayThanks: She was both too prideful and socially awkward to say even a simple "thank you" to Nagi whenever he saved her from trouble.
* DontCallMeSir: She wanted Nagi to stop calling her princess after her kingdom fell and she lost her royal status with it.
* DoubleStandardAbuseFemaleOnMale: She tended to slap Nagi, punch him and blast him with her magic whenever he pissed her off.
* EmotionallyTongueTied: She had a hard time expressing her true feelings for Nagi. He had to push her to get anything more than "I do not dislike you" out of her. This stems from a stunted emotional upbringing more than anything else.
* EveryoneLovesBlondes: Arika was a beauty with long blonde hair. Nagi made her his wife, Gödel is pining after her to this day and even Rakan admits he fell for her a little. A good percentage of her subjects also adore her despite her being blamed for the destruction of their kingdom.
* ExpositoryPronoun: When she was still a princess, Arika used "watashi" to refer herself. After she became queen, she started calling herself "warawa" that is considered more regal to befit her new position.
* FaceDeathWithDignity: On the day of her execution, Arika solemnly walked the plank and quietly accepted her death as she jumped into a canyon full of hungry monsters. However, Nagi wasn't going to accept it and managed to rescue her.
* FallenPrincess: She went from the princess and later queen of the Magic World's oldest royal family to a scapegoat who was blamed for the whole war, held prisoner for two years, and was nearly executed before Nagi saved her.
* FireForgedFriends: She and Nagi didn't seem to like each other at all until she forced him to carry her shopping bags during her outing at town where they were attacked by assassins. Arika refused to sit back and helped Nagi destroy an enemy headquarters. After that, they were on friendlier terms enough to fall in love eventually, even though they never stopped annoying each other.
* ForgottenFallenFriend: By the time of the epilogue after everything is solved, nobody seems to bother remembering Arika since no one mentions her anymore, not even her husband and son.
* GoodWearsWhite: She often wore a completely white dress and her sole goal was saving her world as well as protecting the lives of her subjects in every way she could.
* HairOfGoldHeartOfGold: A beautiful, prestigious and benevolent princess with golden hair.
* HandBlast: When she was especially angry at Nagi, she would fire magic beams from her hands to smack him around for a bit. Since she was using her royal magic, she managed to actually hurt him.
* HeroWithBadPublicity: Arika was the one who saved the Magic World from being erased by Cosmo Entelecheia's ritual, but she had to doom her FloatingContinent to collapse in exchange. Afterwards, Arika was arrested by the Megalomesembria senate for the destruction of Ostia, the murder of her father and several charges that were false. The senate basically placed the blame for the whole war on Arika and made her into an easy target for the victims of the war and the destruction of Ostia to direct their hatred. People started calling her "Queen of Calamity" and even though a good amount of her subjects still thought highly of her, no one in the public took her side.
* HeroicSelfDeprecation: Arika let her kingdom fall from the sky to save the Magic World from being erased by Asuna's AntiMagic. Despite her heroic intentions and succeeding to evacuate the civilians with very little casualties, Arika still hated herself for making such a big sacrifice and leaving her subjects homeless. By the time of her execution, Arika was fully convinced that she could only do any good by dying and demanded Nagi to abandon her to her fate. Nagi headbutted her to stop her self-deprecating rant and talked her into accepting to marry him so he could carry her guilt with her.
* TheHighQueen: Contrary to her "Queen of Calamity" fame, Arika was a benevolent queen. She ruled over Ostia for only a day before it collapsed, time which she spent doing everything in her power to safely evacuate her subjects. Despite the senate framing her as a war criminal, most of the surviving Ostian population still holds Arika in high regard because she was just that good to them.
* HimeCut: Her hairstyle consisting of blunt bangs, hip-length sidelocks, and knee-length straight hair illustrated her status as a princess/queen perfectly.
* IUhYouToo: After Nagi pulled an awesomely romantic rescue to stop her execution and confessed his love for her, Arika could only tell him "I do not dislike you". After some prodding, she did admit she couldn't stop thinking about him in the two years she spent in imprisonment. This is also justified because her cold upbringing made Arika very bad at expressing her personal feelings.
* ImpoverishedPatrician: Arika was the princess of the Ostian royal family that ruled over the capital of the Magic World and descended directly from the creator of their world. Her status and prestige were reduced to nothing with the fall of her FloatingContinent, leaving her and her subjects as homeless refugees. To make it worse, she was arrested by the Megalomesembria senate and made into a scapegoat for the great war.
* InTheHood: During her introduction, she wears a hood to keep her profile low.
* InVinoVeritas: A variation in Ala Rubra Drama CD. When she ate nabe made with water of truth, the cold Arika's personality does a 180 as she becomes cheerful and honest about how much she cherishes Ala Rubra, calling them her greatest treasure.
* InformedKindness: The Ostian people who personally knew her like Tosaka describe Arika as a kind person, even comparing her to an angel. While the Ala Rubra flashbacks do show she had heroic intentions to save the Magic World, her interactions with other characters (mainly Nagi) depict her as cold, guarded, and violent because of her upbringing at a palace where she was surrounded by corruption. At best, she behaves like a Tsundere for Nagi alone. The only time we really see her being polite and gentle is in the illusion produced by Negi's LotusEaterMachine, but there's nothing that can confirm the real Arika would have acted that way.
* InsecureLoveInterest: Arika didn't believe she had the right to accept Nagi's love due to her being (former) royalty and a war criminal. Luckily, when she tried to reject Nagi's LoveConfession for those reasons, he headbutted her to stop her self-deprecating rant and told her that with Ala Rubra faking her death, she was free to live with him as a normal person. This was enough for Arika to clear her doubts and agree to marry Nagi.
* JerkWithAHeartOfGold: She was quite a bit rude and unfriendly to the members of Ala Rubra, especially Nagi. However, this was caused by having NoSocialSkills instead of a plain meanness. At her core, Arika was a heroic person who wished to save her world from the war. She also cared for her subjects, their survival being her top priority during the collapse of Ostia.
* LadyAndKnight: Arika is the Bright Lady, benevolent and kind (Tsundere except to Nagi), and doing her best to end the war. She has White Knight Nagi keeping her safe while she does so.
* MegatonPunch: She sent Nagi flying with a punch when he commented on her breasts growing in the two years they were separated.
* MissingMom: It seems like she disappeared off the face of the earth before her son Negi could remember her. Unlike his father, Negi never knew anything about Arika until he saw the Ala Rubra movies and later got a confirmation from Gödel and Rakan that she was his mother. In the end, it's never explained why Arika wasn't present in Negi's life nor confirmed whether she's already dead even if it's very likely.
* ModestRoyalty: She had fairly simple dresses both as a princess and queen.
* MyGreatestFailure: She was wracked with guilt over causing the collapse of her FloatingContinent as the price she had to pay to save the Magic World from Asuna's AntiMagic.
* MysteriousParent: Negi never heard anything about his absent mother before the Magic World arc, where he finds out she was a magical queen and an infamous criminal who destroyed her own FloatingContinent.
* NervesOfSteel: Arika never lost her cool and kept on a calm mask even in the most dreadful situations, like when Cosmo Entelecheia almost succeeded to erase the Magic World, the collapse of her kingdom in the sky, and her own execution where she was thrown into a canyon full of monsters.
* NiceJobBreakingItHero: By taking the blame of the war and the destruction of Ostia for Asuna, Arika has enabled the Cosmo Entelecheia to continue their plans and has caused the Senate to view Negi as an enemy.
* NoSell: She was apparently immune to the effect of Asuna's AntiMagic as Arika was able to use her magic to protect the people of the slums during the kingdom's collapse despite the magic being nullified in the entire area.
* NoSocialSkills: Because of her sheltered upbringing, Arika was very blunt, emotionally repressed and avoided getting familiar with Ala Rubra. This is trope in Negi's LotusEaterMachine where Arika has no idea of how to have a casual conversation with her own son even though she raised him in that world.
* NotAfraidToDie: When she was made jump into a canyon full of man-eating monsters, Arika felt no fear to die as all she hoped was that her execution could make some of the war victims happy; her one regret was that she wanted to see her beloved Nagi again.
* NotSoStoic: Her normally aloof/serious demeanor pretty much shatters in Ch. 269 when Nagi confesses his love to her. Also, when he headbutted her to shut her up, we see a shocked Chibi!Arika.
* ObliviousToLove: Because of her social ineptitude, Arika didn't understand why Nagi went so far to save her until he yelled that he was in love with her, all while berating her for being so dense. Her son takes after her in romantic cluelessness.
* OOCIsSeriousBusiness: In Chapter 266, the second Ala Rubra flashback starts with Arika hugging Nagi out of nowhere as she sheds a tear and begs him to stay with her for a little longer. Although Nagi tried to joke about it, he knew something had to be very wrong for a hardass Tsundere like Arika to act so vulnerable. And soon he learned why; the FloatingContinent of Ostia was about to fall from the sky because of Asuna's sealing so Arika wanted to at least have a moment of peace with Nagi before the catastrophe.
* OppositesAttract: She was TheStoic and Nagi was HotBlooded. Despite how much their personalities crashed, the two fell in love and got married.
* OverlyLongName: Trope. Her full name is Arika Anarkhia Entheofushia. While not that long, it is appropriate for the princess of an ancient royal family to have at least one middle name.
* Patricide: Towards the end of the war, Arika assassinated her own father after he was exposed as a Cosmo Entelechia puppet. The Megalomesembria senate deliberately omitted the latter part when they arrested Arika with the murder of her father as one of the charges.
* PervertRevengeMode: Whenever Nagi got a little too familiar with her, she decked him. She was one of the few people around that could put some serious hurt on him.
* PoliticallyActivePrincess: She acted as an arbitrator between the empire and the confederation to try to put an end to the war. However, she failed and had to request Ala Rubra's help.
* PosthumousCharacter: She's all but outright stated to be long gone. Everything known about her comes from flashbacks and statements made by people who knew her.
* PrettyPrincessPowerhouse: Don't let her royal heritage fool you, she's more than capable of defending herself and has even saved Nagi on the odd occasion.
* PrincessClassic: Arika was the beautiful princess of a FloatingContinent in the Magic World. She wore white or pink dresses and had golden RapunzelHair like a fairy tale princess. She wished for peace in her world, cared deeply about her subjects and was loved by them in return. Despite putting up a façade of being cold, she was pure-hearted and utterly selfless. She fell in love with the powerful knight under her service and they got married after he risked his life rescuing her from her execution. However, her mysterious absence from her son's life implies she didn't live HappilyEverAfter.
* PrincessesPreferPink: On the two occasions we see Nagi rescuing her, she's wearing a pink dress as a stereotypical captive princess would.
* RapunzelHair: Her hair was long enough to reach the back of her knees, which is perfect for the crown princess of a magic kingdom.
* RedBaron: She was called "Queen of Calamity" for being the main perpetrator behind the destruction of her own kingdom.
* RoyalsWhoActuallyDoSomething: Arika was the princess of a kingdom caught in the crossfire of TheEmpire and TheFederation. Instead of staying comfortable inside a castle, she took an active part in trying and ending the war. It was she, instead of Ala Rubra, who gathered allies needed to cast the spell that stopped Cosmo Entelecheia's magic-erasing ritual from destroying the Magic World, although she had to sacrifice her FloatingContinent for it. In the process of Ostia's collapse, Arika led the evacuation of the civilians and personally went to protect the people of the slums from the falling rocks.
* RoyaltySuperpower: Arika was said to possess the Royal Magic only the members of the Ostian royal bloodline had. It's never specified what it could do, but it made Nagi feel a lot of pain, so it must have been a big deal.
* SemiDivine: Arika belonged to the Ostian bloodline that descended from the creator of the Magic World who is treated as a PhysicalGod in the setting.
* SexyBacklessOutfit: She wore a backless dress on both occasions that Nagi rescued her.
* SharedFamilyQuirks: Just like her son, Arika couldn't realize when someone was in love with her unless they confessed, to her husband Nagi's annoyance.
* SharedUnusualTrait: Arika and Asuna are the only known princesses of the old Ostia kingdom. They're also the only characters in the series who have heterochromia with one of their eyes being blue and the other green.
* ShelteredAristocrat: Having spent her whole life confined in the royal palace of Ostia, Arika was ignorant to a lot of things found in the commoner society. Nagi found it ridiculous that Arika didn't even know what ice cream and a date are.
* SilentScapegoat: The Megalomesembria senate made up that Arika worked for Cosmo Entelecheia to instigate the great war and make Ostia fall from the sky when the real cause was Asuna's AntiMagic. Arika accepted to be accused and executed in order to satiate the hatred of the war victims. Nagi was able to save her life, but not her reputation.
* SingleTear: When Nagi tried to leave once his job as her knight was done, Arika shed a tear as she hugged Nagi from behind and asked him to stay with her a little longer because she knew that was her last chance to see him before Ostia fell from the sky.
* TheStoic: She was stone-faced and rarely expressed her emotions openly. Her interactions with Nagi proved that she was NotSoStoic, though.
* SugarAndIcePersonality: Being a princess of the Ostian bloodline, Arika felt obligated to keep a dignified image and her sheltered background made her reluctant to let others see her emotions. Her sweet side was especially reserved for Nagi, allowing herself to blush and smile when they were in private.
* Tsundere: A rare stoic Harsh type. Arika was aloof and no-nonsense in general. Nagi came out with one injury or two whenever he talked to Arika. By the end of the war, it was obvious that Arika had fallen for Nagi, but she was too emotionally repressed to openly admit her love in anything other than inner monologue. When Nagi professed his love for her, what was the best she could say in return? "I do not dislike you" with a LuminescentBlush.
* TsurimeEyes: Her eyes slant upwards and she's characterized as a serious, strong-willed woman who could turn into a Tsundere around Nagi.
* UnusualEyebrows: Her eyebrows were kinked at the beginning.
* UnwantedRescue: When Nagi arrived to rescue her from her execution, she demanded him to leave her because she was a criminal who deserved to die for destroying her own kingdom. In response, Nagi headbutted her to make her shut up and declared he came to save her whether she liked it or not, because he loves her.
* UptownGirl: A princess who fell in love with her knight, Nagi. However, they married after she wasn't royalty anymore.
* TheUsurper: A heroic example. She assassinated her father, who was a PuppetKing under the control of Cosmo Entelechia, in order to seize control of the government of Ostia and point them in the proper direction. This was one of the actions that made it easy for the Megalomesembria senate to paint her as an evil criminal.
* WellExcuseMePrincess: Most of her interactions with Nagi had her chiding and bossing him around. If he tried to talk back to her, he got a slap in the face.
* WhatHappenedToTheMouse: It's never revealed what happened to her after giving birth to Negi, although it's safe to assume that she either disappeared or died under unknown circumstances.
* WhenSheSmiles: The young Takamichi was shocked when he saw the "scary, coldblooded princess" smiling after taking down some enemies with Nagi.
* WhiteSheep: Apparently, all the royalty of Vespertatia were either corrupted or manipulated by Cosmo Entelecheia. Arika was the one exception, seeking to save her world from being destroyed by Cosmo Entelecheia's machinations.
* TheWomanWearingTheQueenlyMask: Due to being raised in a very stifling and dark environment filled to the brim with plotting politicians and insidious royalty, Arika shut off all emotion to fit the position of a solemn princess. She only let her guard down around Nagi.

An extremely powerful warrior who's every bit as invincible as Nagi (the one time we saw them fight, it was a draw). He is a very laid-back and seemingly carefree person, loving nothing more in life than cute girls and powerful opponents. He primarily works as a mercenary, charging hilariously overpriced fees for his help, but ended up joining the Ala Rubra and fighting alongside them to save the world.\\
\\
Though he can use magic, it really isn't his style; he prefers to use swords, fists, and KiManipulation. His decades of experience in battle leave him with few to no weaknesses as a fighter, a fact he tries to hide with his goofy attitude and lack of (apparent) strategy.\\
\\
In keeping with Kurt Gödel, his name may be a reference to Jacques Lacan, psychoanalyst and philosopher. The two names would be identical in katakana.

Takamichi's A calm and collected warrior excelling in unarmed combat and counter magic. Nagi addressed Zect as "Oshisou", which means the same as "sensei" (i.e. teacher, master and a soldier from Megalomesembria who allied himself with Ala Rubra during in the great war. He's deceased by the time of the present, having died from an injury in front of his student and Asuna.master/journeyman sense), but is more old-fashioned.

* MentorArchetype: He taught Takamichi about the powerful fighting techniques that later made him famous, mainly iaiken and kanka.
* MultiEthnicName: He had a French first name, a Japanese middle name, and a Dutch surname.
* OneLastSmoke: He asked his student for one last cigarette before he passed away from a still unexplained injury.
* OnlySaneMan: Flashbacks portray him as the most levelheaded member of Ala Rubra.
* PermaStubble: He was notable for his 5 o'clock shadow. Takamichi takes after him in this regard.
* PosthumousCharacter: He was killed somehow at some point between the end of the war and Asuna's arrival at Mahora Academy. He only shows up in Asuna's flashbacks and the Ala Rubra backstory movies.
* RapidFireFisticuffs: He knew the iaiken, a battle move that allowed him to deliver powerful punches faster than the human can see, and passed it down to his pupil Takamichi.
* SatelliteCharacter: All really known about Gateau is that he was Takamichi's teacher and his death left a big impact on his student and Asuna. Other than that, there's no information about the man himself.
* SmokingIsCool: He was rarely seen without a cigarette in his mouth. His pupil picked up the habit from him.
* SpecsOfAwesome: Like his student later in life, Gateau wore glasses and was a strong fighter.
* YinYangBomb: The kanka technique combines magic with ki, which normally isn't possible. We don't really see Gateau use it, but Takamichi and Asuna learned the technique from him.

!!!Voiced by: Music/MegumiHayashibara (Only in the Ala Rubra Drama CD)

The last queen of the Vespertatia Kingdom of Ostia. Before she ascended to the throne, she asked Ala Rubra to work for her to end the war and save the world from Cosmo Entelecheia. Twenty years later, she's a well-known criminal blamed for causing her own country to fall from the sky. However, the circumstances that lead to it were more complicated than the public knows.\\
\\
She was in love with Nagi, even though Tsundere she only expressed her feelings for him by slapping him in the face. It's been confirmed that she was Negi's mother.
----
* HundredPercentAdorationRating: Arika was beloved by the people of Ostia.
* BigDamnHeroes:
* BigGood: During the great war, Arika was the authoritative figure that commanded Ala Rubra while they fought to save the
Magic World characters]].from Cosmo Entelecheia.
* FallenPrincess: She went from the princess and later queen of the Magic World's oldest royal family to a scapegoat who was blamed for the entire war, held prisoner for two years, and nearly executed before Nagi saved her.
* OOCIsSeriousBusiness: In Chapter 266, the second Ala Rubra flashback starts with Arika hugging Nagi out of nowhere as she sheds a SingleTear and begs him to stay with her for a little longer.
* TheWomanWearingTheQueenlyMask: Due to being raised in a very stifling and dark environment filled to the brim with plotting politicians and insidious royalty, Arika shut off all emotion to fit the position of a solemn princess. She only let her guard down around Nagi.

Takamichi's master and a soldier from Megalomesembria who allied himself with Ala Rubra during the great war. He's deceased by the time of the present, having died from an injury in front of his student and Asuna.
----
* MentorArchetype: He taught Takamichi about the powerful fighting techniques that later made him famous, mainly iaiken and kanka.
* MultiEthnicName: He had a French first name, a Japanese middle name, and a Dutch surname.
* OneLastSmoke: He asked his student for one last cigarette before he passed away from a still unexplained injury.
* OnlySaneMan: Flashbacks portray him as the levelheaded one when working with the eccentric Ala Rubra.

* EtherealWhiteDress: Flashbacks depict her with a completely white dress when she's acting as a member of the Ostian royal family. She played a very relevant role in saving the Magic World with the help of Ala Rubra and while never explicitly stated, all indicates that she's already dead by the time of the present storyline.
