    Previous opening post
So, this index is already listed on Tropes Needing TRS because of the following: In 2021 (link to thread), Fora's tropes were merged into Forum Speak due to a lack of examples for those tropes. Wiki Tropes has roughly the same problem, especially because a lot of those pages (such as Red Link and Blue Link, which are also used on other wikis, such as Wikipedia and its sister sites) don't cover wikis other than TV Tropes despite the page's description saying it usually covers wikis in general; some of the tropes in question actually are specific to TV Tropes. Since this category's scope is mostly restricted to TV Tropes, a lot of them could easily be moved to Administrivia, especially since some (such as Square Peg, Round Trope and Edit War) already have been.

Given that the Fora TRS is now closed and it did discuss that its scope of merging many of these mini-tropes into Forum Speak should probably continue on Wiki Tropes, it makes sense to continue here.

Administrivia.Tips On Grammar and have Grammar redirect, and... hm, JustForFun.Wikipedia Regular? JustForFun.Wikipedia Behavior as other alternatives?

Calling in favor of the following:

Removing from Wiki Tropes comes with being merged with another page, so I omitted those.

Edit: All of that's done now. I'm going to take a break before focusing on the merges.

New crowner hooked for the grammar-related page. I'll see if anyone has any more name suggestions for the Wikipedia-related page before running a crowner for it.

So, I have a couple of things to address regarding the rest of this thread's work (aside from any dewicking that's left):

  • We still need a crowner to decide the name of the Wikipedia page, as I previously mentioned. These are some names we have so far (Main/ and JustForFun/ would be listed separately, similarly to what I did with Main/ and Administrivia/ on the current crowner, so we'd have twice as many options as I listed here):
    • Wikipedia Editor
    • Wikipedian Editor
    • Dr. Pedia and Mr. Trope
    • Wikipedia Regular
    • Wikipedia Behaviornote
    • Wikipedia Behaviournote
  • The final crowner would be for whether the grammar page and the Wikipedia page should be indexed as Wiki Tropes. If dewicking is done by then, we'd close the thread (I haven't kept up with whether Main.Troper and Main.Describe Topic Here have been dewicked yet).

Just finished dewicking Troper (the only wicks left are for an archive page, a locked page I just requested an edit on, and You Know That Thing Where... somehow).

Double posting because I made Sandbox.Tips On Grammar for the merged page. To be honest, Main.Grammar is so poorly written that I only found one sentence I thought was worth salvaging for the merged page (the one about how we don't care about whether editors use American or Commonwealth spellings), so all other text was taken from Main.Tips On Grammar.

I'll still wait for more input before moving the sandbox to Administrivia.Tips On Grammar.

Re: Sandbox.Tips On Grammar. I'm going to make myself look like a fool, but perhaps there are some good points about the writing style.

  • "Your contribution is more important to us than some minor spelling blunder". Unless there's a lot, at which point you get a notifier and later a suspension. Also, there could be a link to Get Help With English, since it can be useful and isn't private.
  • That's a lot of question marks here for a tips segment. I'd remove the uncertain tone to keep it consistent with the rest of the page. Also either I'm stupid or "Than" here isn't comparing anything.
What Goes After "Than"? Than I? Than me?, Than he? Than him? It depends on what you're saying. Are you comparing the doer of an action? Most likely you want the subject (I, he, etc). Is it a direct object? Than you likely want the object (me, him, her, etc).
What Goes After "Than"? It depends on what you're saying. If you are comparing the doer of an action, then most likely you want the subject (I, he, etc). If it's a direct object, then you likely want the object (me, him, her, etc).
  • "As a doctor, what would you say is my prognosis?" may need to be elaborated further on how it can be wrong and "considered acceptable" at the same time.
  • The tips on the apostrophe aren't scary because of Wall of Text, but because they are not on the same indentation level as the rest of the page.
  • "The sentence involving "Mary" isn't really clear. It would be clearer..." Why not make it clear to begin with? I also don't get how do you even buy "all of that cat", can you buy that cat partially? Also, I assume the following "However, the first..." part refers to this example, but it's placed separately.
  • The rest is even worse to read because the same points are split with new lines for no reason.
    • "When in doubt, leave the apostrophe out." That's generally bad advice for someone who even bothered to read about grammar. It should probably be rephrased with the next sentence to explain that you don't have to worry about the apostrophe if you don't truncate "'s" and "'re".
    • "to get it right is to remember an apostrophe is to show something...". Does this sound correct?
    • "nothing has been left out of the word: enchiladas". Yeah no kidding, because it's a signal word instead of a noun and a verb, what point is this making?
    • I've though "its" is written without an apostrophe for the same reason you wouldn't write "he's" or "her's", not because it's exceptional.
    • Is "sesquipedalian" a commonly known word?
  • I've discovered Tenses (and it's oddly named redirect, How Do I Used Tense?), is it related to grammar tips if it talks mostly about the English ones and has a note specific about the wiki?

[up]Go ahead and make those changes.

As for why How Do I Used Tense? is a redirect to Tenses, it's because it used to be classified as a trope and was given a non-self-demonstrating name when it was turned into a Useful Note. (The redirect for the old name was moved from Main/ to UsefulNotes/ after that happened.)

Calling the crowner in favor of not indexing the new pages as Wiki Tropes. I'll remove the pages they're being merged from from the index.

I think Administrivia.Tips On Grammar looks good enough.

I am pretty sure no one wrote JustForFun.Wikipedia Behavior. I never wrote a JFF page before so I don’t think I can help with that one.

I think Wikipedia Behavior looks fine with what's currently there. I added it to the Just for Fun index (it's already indexed under Self-Demonstrating Article).

Is Administrivia.Tips On Grammar ready? The only thing left after that page and JustForFun.Wikipedia Behavior is finishing cleanup for Describe Topic Here wicks.

Triple posting because I moved Sandbox.Tips On Grammar to Administrivia.Tips On Grammar and dewicked Main.Tips On Grammar and Main.Grammar since everyone seemed fine with it.

The last thing that needs to be done is moving the wicks for Main.Describe Topic Here to JustForFun.Describe Topic Here. One one hand, that part's harder than the two merges, but on the other hand, it's the last thing keeping this thread open.

Crown Description:

Merges in this thread led to the creation of two pages, Administrivia.Tips On Grammar (a guide on English grammar) and JustForFun.Wikipedia Behavior (a page about habits gained from editing Wikipedia spilling over to edits to TV Tropes). Should either of them be considered Wiki Tropes?
