I feel like Fern could be an Ensemble Dark Horse for some people in the fandom.
Fern's not really a minor character, though. She gets a good amount of focus, and there's usually two or three episodes per season that have her in the main role.
The things in my dreams wish they could chase me!Anyone else feel that the entries here (that have seen a sudden increase) taking the side of the Tibbles in "Attack of the Turbo Tibbles" don't work and should be removed?
I think said entries are missing the point of the episode in favor of vilifying D.W. in one of her (relatively rare) more sympathetic roles. The Tibbles are going out of control with their like of the TV show and wind up accidentally hurting D.W. (to the point of giving her stitches) while engrossed in one of their fantasies, and they are horrified when they do so. And honestly, I don't see many other people taking a "serves-you-right" mentality to what happens to her here beyond the person or people who added these entries.
Should these entries be zapped?
"Don't worry, Lucian, we'll make it through this." Hide / Show RepliesI agree. I don't know who added this but I've never heard anyone side with the Tibbles on this episode. Their act is completely unprovoked and D.W. isn't in the wrong in the episode.
On a related note, holy flying crap, the amount of complaining about Arthur's parents is downright insane. There's actually way more cases when they discipline D.W. than when they don't. Yes, the cases where they don't are ridiculous, but come on, acting like they're worse than Lois from Malcolm in the Middle? That's pretty extreme. I feel like every other trope, especially on the YMMV tab, has this unwritten rule where they must complain about Mr. and Mrs. Read in some way or another. It's kind of really annoying, to be honest. Can we rewrite this a bit so the page is a little less "Complaining about Parents You Don't Like"?
Just because D.W. wasn't in the wrong in THAT episode, it doesn't suddenly make her numerous less sympathetic roles non-canon, or excuse them for that matter. The person who added those entries probably thought it was deserved karma for her usual behavior in most episodes.
On a semi-hiatus from this site due to being busy with other things (may contribute here and there, but nothing major).Except what the Tibbles did to her had nothing to do with her prior non-sympathetic roles (virtually none of which the Tibbles were involved in or knew about).
Edited by TVLubberThat doesn't matter. If a character has a tendency to act like a Jerkass most of the time, something bad happening to them can be seen as deserved by some people even if said bad thing happened to them for reasons unrelated to their Jerkassery. Isn't that what the trope Kick The Son Of A Bitch is all about?
On a semi-hiatus from this site due to being busy with other things (may contribute here and there, but nothing major).Except D.W. didn't deserve what the Tibbles (who are much worse than her) did to her.
And I don't recall her causing so much trouble BEFORE that episode (except for her threatening Kate).
Edited by TVLubberThat is a matter of personal opinion. I personally see D.W. as irredeemably bad and a completely heartless and selfish monster, so anything bad that happens to her is deserved in my eyes. Also, just because the Tibbles are worse than her doesn't mean she didn't deserve it. Sometimes bad people in the real world are victims of even worse people than themselves too, and while others might think the victimized person had it coming, they would still want the other person to be punished if they've victimized the innocent as well. And the example you gave of her causing trouble (threatening Kate with physical violence) is actually a pretty big deal since she is only a baby whereas D.W. is four. And then there's the fact that she also attempted to SELL Kate as if she were property just because she was jealous of her, which I would say crosses the line into straight-up heinous. And if the troper who added those entries also felt that way, then don't they have the right to add it here? Aren't YMMV sections meant to be for sharing opinions? And even if it's meant to be about the common opinion and not one person's individual one, if you look up a list of hated cartoon characters online, chances are that D.W. will be pretty high up on the list, and some people in the comments will outright wish she'd get into some kind of fatal accident.
Edited by SereneSpecter13 On a semi-hiatus from this site due to being busy with other things (may contribute here and there, but nothing major).Well, I happen to agree with Mr Eight Three One and kablammin45 on this one.
Yeah, but like I said, doesn't the person who made the entries vilifying D.W. have the right to add them if that's their personal opinion?
On a semi-hiatus from this site due to being busy with other things (may contribute here and there, but nothing major). That wouldn't be fair, since what the Tibbles (who are The Scrappies) did to D.W. (who is a Base-Breaking Character) qualifies more as a Tear Jerker to us.
I just noticed that there is still one such entry on the Western Animation subpage of Kick The Son Of A Bitch. While I still personally believe that it was indeed deserved, do you guys think that one should be zapped as well?
On a semi-hiatus from this site due to being busy with other things (may contribute here and there, but nothing major).About the entry about D.W. under Ron the Death Eater; I'd like to know which fanfics out there make D.W. an Enfante Terrible. I know Proper Discipline is one, but the entry states there are more than a few of them.

I moved out some tropes that didn't seem to fit from the PBS show, either the show itself or fandom reactions. Dumping it here, because hey, I could be wrong.
Designated Villain refers to a character we're informed is the villain, who doesn't do anything particularly villainous. These are just how the characters view each other.
This was the reaction in-universe, it isn't YMMV.
Cartoon fans have been getting hooked on kids' shows for generations. One example doesn't make this more or less relevant (or Hilarious) than it already was.
There's already a subpage for this.
Love It or Hate It refers to the work as a whole. It says on the Love It or Hate It page that "When this happens within a fandom, it's known as Broken Base".
The trope page doesn't really define "memetic" other than "incredibly popular". I love outofcontextarthur, but I'm pretty sure they're just one person.
Zero Context Example.
Trimmed because most of these characters are [[Base Breaker]]s at worst.
Trimmed because it seems to drift from its point.
Removing This Troper stuff.
I'm having trouble figuring out how this fits? It doesn't describe any controversy or complaints over the doll.
I've never seen the fandom react to these characters this way? Aside from occasional circumstances, they're not very woobie-ish. Also, Zero Context Example.
