openExamples organized both by actor and by movie Film
I just noticed something odd in the "Films - Live-action" folder of Victoria's Secret Compartment: The examples are divided into two sections, "By Actress" and "By Film".
The "By Actress" folder only contains three actresses, and for two of these there really doesn't seem any point to the examples, because Adrienne Barbeau only has examples from two films (one of which is a ZCE), and Jennifer Connelly just from a single film.
For Bernadette Peters there's at least a point to it, because the example says that the trope is frequently used by her, and goes on to list four works and then "the list is endless" (turning it into a general example). And, of course, the entire list is a ZCE because it says nothing about the context.
My first question: Is this really kosher? And if it is, how often should an actress use the trope to merit a "by actress" entry?
My second question: What to do about it?
I would like to make the three examples for Adrienne Barbeau and Jennifer Connelly to the "by film" list, and make proper work-centered examples of the two which are not ZCEs.
But what should be done about the Bernadette Peters list of ZCEs? Create (and comment out) ZCE entries for each film? Or just delete the entry for being a general example? Just commenting it out is not a solution, I think, because that would keep the "By actress" organization.
Edited by GnomeTitanopenPassive-aggressive troper refusing to acknowledge concerns in TLP.
I think some mod intervention may be needed in the Evil Egg-Eater draft. Troper generation81 is being rather passive-aggressive with their responses to our concerns regarding the title, even going as far as to deliberately ignore our advice. One such comment they left in particular: "Y'know what, i'm keeping the current title, regardless if some may disagree. Sorry, y'all.", definitely shows unwillingness to co-operate. It seems like they're desperately trying to get the draft launched as quickly as possible regardless of any problems present.
Edited by DivineFlame100openPage vandalism?
I have a page for my fanfic series. Poster str8aura just posted the following in the fic description, between where the quote marks appear in the excerpt below:
…fan stories written by Creator/Bolt_DMC, “who, coincidentally, is also the only person who ever edits this page and created every entry in a shameless attempt to bring more attention to their fic.”
Presumably this counts as page vandalism? I intend to remove their edit, but I don’t want to be accused of edit warring. I also realize that the fic may be mine and the trope page is not — but this seems like an entirely unreasonable edit.
Permission requested to remove their edit, and I would also like to report their behavior. I doubt seriously that sending them a PM is worth the effort.
Thanks!

Hello,
There is currently an active TRS thread for the Five-Man Band trope. If you would like to participate in the thread, you are welcome to do so.
Please do not reply to this. This is simply to draw attention to an important thread.
openIs there a way to delete a Discussion?
Over on the Archon subpage for the Genshin Impact character page, I had tried to prevent an editing war from happening by asking where in 2.1 was the Dendro Archon’s gender confirmed, but by the time I had posted it, another troper had beat me to the punch by about four minutes.
So is there anyway to delete a discussion that has been ninja’d?
Edited by LeobraceropenWhat If 2021: Flawless Token, Yes or No? Western Animation
This can get ugly, so I really want to make sure there's some of consensus on the issue... in episode 2 of Marvel's What If…? (2021), does T'Challa count as an example of a Flawless Token? The episode's basic premise is "What if Yondu picked up T'Challa instead of Peter Quill", and its own answer to that question is "T'Challa becomes a better Star-Lord than Peter could have dreamed". Seriously, T'Challa not only redeemed the Ravagers, who in this universe are now heroic freedom fighters and anti-slavery activists, but talked Thanos out of his mission. Peter, in comparison, is shown to be a miserable blue-collar slob working as a Dairy Queen janitor. The What If YMMV page already slaps Peter with a Memetic Loser trope for this portrayal, but... yeah, anyone else think it's a little weird that T'Challa is just so much better than Peter Quill?

openNot Hard-to-Adapt if successful?
- George R. R. Martin reportedly made A Song of Ice and Fire under the premise that he was creating a story that had no chance to be adapted into a movie or series. Game of Thrones seemed to take that as a challenge, and being an HBO series was able to throw a lot of money to create an acclaimed show. It still required extensive changes to the original story, as well as surpassing the story of the books due to Martin's Schedule Slip.
I question if this really hard to adapt given how successful and well-revived, only becoming criticized after it ran out of material to adapt which sounds like the opposite of this.
Does Hard-to-Adapt Work require the work have a history of it's adaptations being problematic or having less-than-stellar reception? Otherwise And You Thought It Would Fail covers what was assumed this but worked out well.
open Yamato 2: the pronouns strike back!
No edit war (yet) but, to make a long story short: in One Piece, specifically this page, there's this character, Yamato, who's gender identity is not clear: biologically, is a woman but wants to emulate Oden, who was a man, therefore he says to have become a man. So far we decided to stick with male pronouns since other characters refers to Yamato as such, but his infobox points him as "Kaido's daughter" (which is the only time he's referred as a woman but also the closest to a Word of God)
Recently, new infos came out: in promotional material Yamato was associated with other female characters and some supplemental material says Yamato is female/woman. While the supplemental material appear to be given by the author, it has also been contradicted a couple of times in the story, so it's not 100% reliable
A troper has already suggested on the discussion page to change the pronouns, so I'm asking here for ulterior opinions before making (or not) this action
Edit: Aaand the troper already changed the pronouns, so it's another edit war...

Edited by jherhmeigringeropenCharacter reactions towards real people
Looking through Jeopardy!, I saw that there was examples for Base-Breaking Character and Ensemble Dark Horse about both contestants and guest hosts, as well as some Replacement Scrappy examples involving guest hosts, producers, and the initial response to Alex.
My question is, should such reactions be allowed in reference to real people? I think they are allowed for reality shows, but is this the case for Game Show hosts and/or contestants, or voice actors (as is the case on Recess)?
(Relatedly, should Replacement Scrappy even count for a temporary host?)
Sorry if this isn't important...
Edited by fraggleloveropenSpider-Man PS4 - Peter Parker page
Peter Parker from Insomniac Games' Spider-Man (PS4) and Spider-Man: Miles Morales has content in his folder that exceeds 40,000 bytes so he requires a page of his own. Trouble is, I don't know how to create such pages without screwing up so I'd be grateful if someone else could do it on my behalf and also, if you look at Rocksteady's Arkham Batman page, the title of the page is appropriately called Characters / Batman Arkham Series Batman so what should Spider-Man's page be called? The Arkham Series part of the page's title is actually a franchise, Batman: Arkham Series. And even though the Marvel's Spider-Man games have yet to be a franchise (though they already are if you ask me, as they already have 2 games, 2 novels and 3 comic book series), should Spider-Man's character page just be titled Characters / Marvel's Spider-Man Series Spider-Man? I dunno, that's why I came here, hoping for some input from anyone familiar with the games.
Edited by lemarhoffmanopenBlanking an overshadowed with controversy entry Videogame
Hi,
Not sure if this should be flagged but troper Link Mario Samus just removed unanimously the Civ VI controversies off https://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/article_history.php?article=OvershadowedByControversy.VideoGames with the edit reason "I wouldn't have known about those controversies if I hadn't seen this site."
I feel like this is perhaps not the right move, especially if they only heard it here doesn't mean there isn't controversy about it. This is my first ATT though, so I could be misreading, or misunderstanding

openCleanup on DemonicSpiders/Descent
Back in March 2021, user xxxplizit split the Demonic Spiders examples on YMMV.Descent off onto their own page. There were a lot of examples, so it was probably needed.
The problem is that his writing style has left the page with a lot of issues with natter, context, and questionable grammar. As of this ATT, there's no discussion thread anywhere about creating the page, and his are the only edits in the history.
openDifferentiating Fridge Brilliance from Fridge Logic
So... what exactly is the difference between the two? I've read both pages and their Laconics and it's ''still not making sense to me. It's even more confusing because there are so many work Fridge pages which conflate the terms and make the line even more blurred.
openCOVID-SR5R
I'm noticing a pattern of COVID-SR5R abruptly discarding their TLP drafts without so much of an announcement. They recently discarded Indifferent Ignorance without even giving it a chance to develop, since there were no bombs (as of this writing) or objections against it to even warrant a discard in the first place.
They've also discarded more drafts than this like "Idiot, You're a Genius!" and Hand Over Mouth, just to name a few, both of which have potential but were barely given a chance to develop. The former draft in particular may hint at possible Can't Take Criticism behavior on the troper's part since it was discarded moments after Agent 2583 left a comment pointing out how the title violated No New Stock Phrases.
Altogether, this is making me worry about a troublesome trend they're doing. It's becoming way too commonplace.
