openSimplifying elements of an article? Anime
This isn't about any particular work, just entries in general.
I've been looking through the Non-Serial Movie page and Alternate Continuity page and am wondering how to make some entries easier to understand for people unfamiliar with Long Runner and/or complex franchises.
I obviously don't want to get into an Edit War, but at the same time, want the entries to be understandable.
I've seen Administrivia. How To Write An Example, but this is about more specialized usage and chronology of works.
Is this a good idea or not?
Asking before this goes to Short-Term Projects on here.
Edited by Merseyuser1openNon-Serial Movie: trope misuse? Anime
Before posting this at Projects: Short Term, thought I'd ask here.
I've seen examples of Non-Serial Movie used as:
- Non-Serial Movie: Averted. It's canon and fits between episodes x and y.
and some detail on its canonicity.
However, as I'm not entirely familiar with the source material for some, and don't want an Edit War, if anyone could help me, I'd appreciate it, as there seems to be a fair amount of entries like this.
openDelete a Redundant Works Page Anime
So last night, I created the Rise Of The Unemployed Wise Man page.
I hadn't realized that The Rise of the Unemployed Wise Man already existed.
I plan on migrating the tropes from the former to the latter, but how can I get the first one deleted?
openRedirects Anime
So I've been writing up a work page for The Hero Who Returned Remains the Strongest in the Modern World as a Manga page. But a little google searching reveals that it was actually a Light Novel first.
How do I create a redirect to send it back to the same page?
openDarkness-Induced Audience Apathy in Akame Ga Kill Anime
I take issue with the Darkness-Induced Audience Apathy in the YMMV page of Akame ga Kill! (the anime adaptation, not the original manga). The only argument for DIAA is: "Just like with the manga, for much the same reasons."
I haven't read the manga, so I can't comment on it, but I thought that DIAA only applies when both sides involved in the main conflict are equally unlikeable or when the heroes' efforts ultimately amount to nothing and the universe still sucks. If the story features clearly defined heroes and villains (even though the show is about morally grey assassins) and the ending delivers a positive outcome, then it doesn't qualify. If people are complaining about the overall darkness in the show, then Angst Aversion might be the better fit. So, what do you think?
openFate/Grand Carnival. Specific running gag wording. Anime
Specifically, this scene.
Currently, the Funny page translates the lines as follows.
- Ritsuka: Cú Chulainn died!Mash: (To Ritsuka) You aren't human!
This is, admittedly, an overly literal, if correct translation. However, it misses the joke. As is explained on the Carnival Phantasm Shout Out page,
IMO, swapping it to "You Bastard", gets the reference across clearer (like it does in the original Japanese, where it is a word-for-word reference to South Park), and sounds more natural.
I've attempted to make this edit before, with explanation, but was reverted. Figured having a discussion and trying to explain here makes more sense than edit warring over it.
Edited by DarthWalrusopenEdit Warring on YMMV/Overlord2012 Anime
Leonidaz made some edits to the Overlord (2012) page on roughly 1/12.
- Memetic Badass: Ainz Ooal Gown is regarded as one of the most overpowered, invincible and badass villains and protagonists in Isekai history. An unusual case in that Ainz is indeed invencible and in-universe everybody regards him as the ultimate superior being, but in reality Ainz is far from being the unbeatable badass everyone thinks he is, he is just lucky to always meet foes weaker or dumber than him.
- Rooting for the Empire: It's rather hard to root for Ainz and the rest of the gang when they act like your typical Fantasy JRPG villains. The fact that they easily steamroll through any obstacle or foe, all the while acting over the top arrogant and snide at the other races and people around them does not help matters. You WISH the antagonist of the arc would actually smack the smirks right off of their faces just for a change of pace (though a bunch of them, such as the Eight Fingers, are even worse than them). The Tomb of Nazarick's over the top entrance and sadistic subjugation of the Lizardfolk (a peaceful community they went to war with just as an "experiment") has been seen as rather infuriating for readers. Though, after they were conquered, Ainz then ordered Cocytus to rule over them with the carrot and not the stick, showing that he's not a total sadist. However, Ainz later unleashed five abominations on a huge, mostly conscript, army and showed nothing but glee towards breaking the record of how many monsters were summoned at once, not even feeling anything about all those who his summoned monstrosities slaughtered. And then there's everything about Demiurge's "livestock". Seriously, many fans of Overlord would want a crossover with other series just so Ainz could face a challenge and be defeated JUST ONCE.
- Spiritual Adaptation: If you unfocus your eyes, you can almost convince yourself you’re watching an anime adaptation of Den.
- That One Boss: For the Great Underground Tomb of Nazarick this title can easily be assigned to Victim, Guardian of the 8th Level. The irony of it all is that Victim is only level 35 and the weakest Guardian. His power comes from being able to sacrifice himself, which causes an onslaught of crippling status debuffs and movement lockdown effects, allowing the rest of Nazarick's forces to kill the invaders at their leisure. To emphasise this point; no Raid Party in Yggdrasil had ever gotten past it.
I removed the areas marked in bold, Spiritual Adaptation, and That One Boss because of the nature of these edits.
- Memetic Badass not only had misspelling, but it also reads as a Justifying Edit and conflicts with the trope.
- Rooting for the Empire has an unnecessary point at the end and has no reason to be there.
- Spiritual Adaptation reads as a ZCE since it doesn't explain how it is one.
- That One Boss is being used for an In-Universe example, so it doesn't make sense to include it.
After removing them on 1/13, said troper returned and added them back in without a message. I sent them a message notifying them I would be making this.
Edited by keyblade333openBrewing Edit War: Self Rpeorting Anime
There are some issues ongoing in the https://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/YMMV/YuGiOhSEVENS page revolving around the Broken Base entry. Namely about the use of a 'repetitive duels' part of the B.B.
Main argument point being my 'this is what people are saying in reaction the duels' versus 'repetitive duels are hardly just Sevens'.
It's going back and forth at this point between myself and Jackpot 21 and should probably get a intervention sooner rather than later.
openHelp with describing a show's plot Anime
I really don't know where else to put this, but:
https://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Anime/WonderEggPriority
I could use help in attempting to describe this show's plot. The first episode has a pretty non-linear storytelling style to it (something I'm admittedly not used to) and I'm having trouble trying to describe it. If anybody else on here has seen this series I could appreciate some help.
openAnime & Manga subsections Anime
I know the question of how to handle anime and manga as media has long caused questions, but now most of our example sections are titled "Anime and Manga". With a few odd exceptions, such as So Bad, It's Good.Anime. This may be because few mangas are listed on the page (bad animation adds a lot to the narm). By contrast, Horrible.Anime And Manga has "Anime" alone as a redirect; meaning SBIG links to Horrible but not the other way around.
Would it be alright if I were to move pages like SBIG to "Anime And Manga", making "Anime" and "Manga" into redirects?
openPage blanking Anime
So another one for Vampire Knight. Riaka blanked the Vampire Knight Day Class in here and just put "Vampire Knight" as the edit reason. When I checked the history, they don't have that many edits.
What to do here?
Edited by cute_heartopenDarth Wiki Anime
Are Darth Wiki pages on anime allowed? I just stumbled on Vampire Knight, only has one entry and it was even indexed in unpublished works when it's obviously isn't unpublished.
openViolation of examples are not general Anime
So AmericansHateTingle.Anime And Manga has a huge folder about general examples called Aspects of Anime. I'm certain this isnt allowed thanks to Examples Are Not General. Especially since each one lists aversions rather then straight examples.
Edited by miraculousopenEdit war brewing on YMMV.DigimonAdventure2020 Anime
YMMV.Digimon Adventure 2020 is currently embroiled in an Edit War over whether the Digidestined are Designated Heroes or not. there's been lengthy edit reasons for both sides and it's starting to get ugly. Shivader originally added the entry, and two other tropers removed it once it was readded twice.
https://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/article_history.php?article=YMMV.DigimonAdventure2020
openRadar.PokemonAnime Cut Anime
Is there a history/lookup for Pokemon Anime? The edit reason (while this wiki does have issues with P5) is rather overblown and there seems to have been zero consensus on what to cut, especially with a TON of orphaned links. The discussion pages shows nothing about the cut, either.
Edited by FishiousRendopenCleaning up DeconstructorFleet page for TheRisingOfTheShieldHero? Anime
The The Rising of the Shield Hero page has so many entries and the format feels all over the place. I don't think most of them fit and need review.
Do we have a cleanup thread for the trope in question?
Edited by keyblade333openWork with 1 trope but high inbounds Anime
Caste Heaven was created 4 or so years ago, and it currently has only 1 non-ZCE example.
It also somehow has 2,700 inbounds.
I'm not familiar with the work, and the page creator hasn't edited since 2016. Do we just cut the work and accept the lost inbounds?
openPossible Edit War on Yashahime page Anime
Okay, so there's some contention over this entry on the Yashahime main page.
- Series Continuity Error: In the original anime, the clamshell rouge Inuyasha's mother gave him as a keepsake was destroyed by Naraku after Inuyasha gifted it to Kikyo, but here it's in Moroha's possession and perfectly intact, with no explanation how.
- Possibly averted if you consider Yashahime to be a sequel to the manga, where the clamshell was never broken.
I've deleted the second point before because the claim that the clamshell wasn't broken in the manga is misleading at best. As far as I can find, it never existed in the manga at all - it was only shown in an anime-original story, as one of many filler episodes that never occurred in the manga. I've asked repeatedly for anyone to provide some evidence that it did exist and wasn't destroyed in the manga continuity in case I'm just misremembering, but no one has done so, and the second point keeps being re-added as is despite not addressing the problem.
I really don't know how to handle this, but I don't want to drag this out into an edit war. Does anyone have some advice for handling this?
openEdit warring on One Piece examples. Anime
Back in July, I discovered a troper by the name of Holy Driver has been going around editing examples of One Piece to refer to the two groups, the Seven Warlords of the Sea and the Four Emperors, as the Shichibukai and the Yonkou (the Japanese terms for the two groups), despite the fact that Warlord and Emperor are the official translations for the two groups' names, which the main One Piece page refers to them by. So I decided to change the names back with a message asking people to refer to them by those names.
Now, just earlier today, I've discovered that, on November 19th, Holy Driver reverted all of the examples back to the Japanese names (I feel it should also be noted that these are the only edits they had made since the July edits). Looking through their edit history, I've also discovered that their edits are entirely dedicated to changing the groups' titles to their Japanese names, despite the fact that, as far as I'm aware, TV Tropes has a rule about refering to foreign names by their official English translation.
So troper ZeroHunter deleted entries regarding Fairy Tail including the entirety of the Ass Pull entries in Fairy Tail, New Powers as the Plot Demands, and Protagonist-Centered Morality, all with the reason of "Getting rid of pointless bashing." Should these be restored? Am posting on here to avoid an Edit War.
