openFinding Tropes for Mono from Little Nightmares 2 Videogame
OK so I'm having a lot of difficult figuring out what tropes would work for Mono from Little Nightmares II by using his descriptions and such. We know he's a Determinator from the Twitter desc. but that's all I can come up with. His website desc. says:
I got some Dark and Troubled Past hints from this but I can't find a reason that would justify me writing it. If anybody wants to help with getting more tropes for this kid, that would be really helpful.
EDIT: I remembered that Mono has been stated to really like to wear things on his heads.
Mervik: That's a personality trait.
Roussel: So you can treat him as a shy boy, or someone who doesn't want to reveal his personality, but he usually covers his face when he can.
So we know he's also shy and that seems to be it.
Edited by ISS600openAbout audience reactions
So on the YMMV page for Mary and Max here has a Nightmare Fuel entry that I find questionable, but I wanted to bring it up Here.
Spoilers for the movie, I guess. The film is about the unlikely friendship between a young girl with low self-esteem named Mary and an older, autistic man named Max as they write letters to each other. The film covers the years of their friendship and their individual problems, including a fight between them, but it isn't until the end that they finally get the chance to meet when Mary flies over to visit, only to find that Max has already passed away. Mary sits down beside him, sees that he's saved every one of her letters over the years, and is comforted knowing that her friend died in peace.
It's better when seen, of course, but the ending is presented as bittersweet but heartwarming. But the YMMV page in question has a Nightmare Fuel entry about Mary sitting next to Max's corpse. I don't really...agree with the entry since the scene is presented as nothing but touching, but I don't know if this is just a case of "Your Mileage May Vary."
So, this specific entry aside, I guess I'm curious if Tearjerker, Nightmare Fuel, Heartwarming, etc. entries like these - reactions that were not ones that were intended - are valid? Obviously sitting next to a corpse isn't an endearing thought, but nothing about the scene is trying to be scary in the slightest. I don't know where we draw the line with YMMV entries, I must admit.
openBENP242
So there's a troper named BENP242 whose edits consisting solely of copypasting musician pages from Wikipedia and making pages for them here.
I sent the Jerry Garcia page he made to the cutlist and sent him a PM about plagiarism. I didn't hear back from them until just now, and I need a mod to look at it.
They've since made two more pages of blatant plagiarism which I am in the process of also cutlisting, but I'm going to need mod intervention at this point.
Edited by ArctimonopenPower Rangers images
Someone apparently changed the images on almost every Power Rangers season page without going through an Image Pickin' thread first. Even so, that would have taken too many more than one page to discuss.
Edited by AmourMittsopenTranslated dialogue vs. Dub dialogue Anime
Hello!
I added an example that included dialogue on a Crowning Moment of Funny page of an anime. I used the dialogue from the dubbed version of the anime (not fansub - just specifically dubbed version). When I happened to be browsing the page later, someone changed the entire dialog, citing the edit reason as "use the Crunchyroll subs" which... kinda changes the context of the conversation slightly considering dubs have to take liberties with scripts in order to make lines work.
Several questions here:
Is using Crunchyroll translation a specified rule?
Does not using Crunchyroll specific dialog make my use of the conversation any less of an example?
(Follow up question I guess being, should I edit it back to the dub dialog and how do I go about addressing it if the editor wasn't supposed to change it in the first place...?)
Also should I have specified that it's a dub specific example next time?
Thanks much for everyone's help & opinion in advance.
openSeinfeld is Unfunny example?
I wanted to add a Seinfeld Is Unfunny example. Is it valid?
Avatar: The Last Airbender isn't the first serialized cartoon, but it helped solidify the genre in the west and inspired a slew of shows in its wake. To younger audiences who are experiencing this show for the first time, it doesn't seem particularly original, but the show is still acclaimed and popular to this day.
openPoorly spelling troper
Melinda keeps making lots of edits with bad spelling despite being sent a notifier.
(Originally, I used "she" pronouns about Melinda, who PM:ed me and explained that he uses "he/him" pronouns. I apologize for making assumptions; that one's obviously on me.)
EDIT: After being notified, and having a pretty productive PM talk about it with me, he keeps making errors. It's becoming a bit tiresome having to clean them up. (I know that technically nobody's forcing me, but you know what I mean.)
Edited by MichaelKatsuroresolved Question regarding "Flame Bait" being used to justify readding something. Videogame
On the Franchise Original Sin World of Warcraft page, there was an entry talking about Creator's Favorite towards the Horde. The entry is long so I won't post the whole thing but the point of the entry was to point out of Blizzard has always had, on some level, favoritism towards a faction. When it was made, this was how it started:
- Blizzard having some measure of preference for the Horde (albeit not necessary in a good way) could be seen as early as Warcraft 2, where it was revealed the Horde had won the events of the first game, and were so strong that it took internal sabotage for them to lose the war against the Alliance.
Sometime in August I removed the part in parenthesis. I forgot to leave a reason why which was on me but my reasoning was because it seemed out of place and didn't make sense. The entry was talking about the idea of Blizzard favoring a faction, regardless of if the outcome is good or bad for it.
On 10/28, Monsund readded the (albeit not necessary in a good way) bit, citing Removing that bit is basically Flame Bait.
I'm not sure how that would count since the entry is supposed to be speaking broadly, and while Franchise Original Sin is YMMV and opinion based, adding that bit in seems more likely to be Flame Bait since its outright steering the point away from more neutral discussion on favoritism, into just saying "Blizzard is making bad favoritism" towards characters.
Edited by keyblade333openIsn't there a way to snooze the ad banner like last time?
It's getting really annoying now, and considering I've never dealt with this issue in such a long while, I don't know if it's a bug or a deliberate choice by the admins. I lack the means to pay for an ad-free perk, and I'm definitely not turning off adblock because of how dangerous some of the ads this site hosts are (they compromised my previous computer with malware).
open"Your Cheating Heart" gone
Can someone point me to the TRS discussion that removed Your Cheating Heart as a trope?
openTroper with grammar and other problems
I just stumbled upon a page edited by langxici, and while normally I’d wait a bit to see if they respond to a grammar notice, this edit adding a second image to SkeleBot 9000 is more immediately concerning.

Arc Break has two examples (one of which is commented out), five wicks to works (and three of those to fanfic), and didn't go through TLP.
Cut or TRS?
openWhy do laconics disappear after a trope is launched?
It's a problem because some tropers won't re-add the laconic after launch. Newest trope Defiant Strip still doesn't have a laconic even after about two days. If you're on a random trope spree and don't feel like reading the full description, you won't be able to get a quick summary for some of these tropes because the laconic hasn't been written.
openExcess spoilers
The Miles to Go Before I Sleep has a lot of whiteout spoilers in some sections (Anime, Videogames), making some examples almost unreadable. Should I try to clear them a bit? Should this be an Unmarked Spoilers trope?
Edited by Ion288openNo Title
No Biochemical Barriers splits its examples into Alien Food Is Edible, Cross-Species Disease, and All Atmospheres Are Equal, in what would normally be a soft-split except that they also have their own subpages? Is there any compelling reason not to make it a hard split?
openYour Cheating Heart
I know this trope is now the Infidelity Index. However, the original trope page still has Analysis, Laconic, Quotes, and Playing With pages active. Shouldn't those be moved or deleted?
openTear Jerker in Mad Rat Dead
The page was deleted because the page only had one example, but I wrote three and now found another two.
Would remaking the page be acceptable now? I am updating the pages while I play the game.
openis "X Meets Y" no longer an actual trope now?
i've been out of the loop and just now noticed that X Meets Y is now a "Just For Fun" page, and i'm not entirely sure what that implies. does that mean they don't belong on the main page of a work?
Vapor Wear was recently made NRLEP and the RL section removed (it seems to have consisted mostly of gossip about various celebrities, so good riddance).
But shouldn't there be a notice somewhere on the trope page that it's NRLEP? I can't see any mention of the fact, which leads to an obvious risk that somebody will start adding RL examples again.
