Ask the Tropers:
openHow much presence must a character have to be included on a character page? Videogame
I want to include a character in a video game onto the character page of that work, but I realized he only really has a presence during one side-quest. So, even though I have a fair amount of tropes to associate with the character, I’m not sure whether or not to include it on the page. Thoughts?
openCan someone in the production of something become an EnsembleDarkhorse?
I know the trope is meant to be applied to characters in a show itself, but with how easy it is nowadays for crew members, writers, directors, etc to interact with the fans and give insight on what goes on behind the scene or interesting info in general that it's sometimes led those people to become as popular in the fandom as the characters they're helping to create.
openNoodle Incident
I removed a lot of examples from NoodleIncident.Calvin And Hobbes because most of them fit under Riddle for the Ages or another trope. There aren't too many examples left on the page, so they could be moved to the main Calvin and Hobbes page without being too long. Should they be moved, or should be page stay there?
openDummied out trivia?
Is Dummied Out trivia? it seems like the sort of page that would be trivia, but it's not marked as such.
open Disagreement over the Big Bad of Gnosia Videogame
Obviously, spoilers.
So I put in the main page that the ultimate Big Bad of Gnosia is Kukrushka/Manan, SQ's mother who killed the player on the first loop, setting off the other loops, and manipulates events to capture her slave Remnan and gain immortality. But another Troper deleted it and said that the answer was “left vague”, even though I am pretty sure that Kukrushka/Manan is supposed to be the mastermind.
Here is the new entry:
- The mastermind who started everything is a question that is ultimately left vague. Were the events of the game started by a Gnosia - possibly Gnosia SQ (aka Manan) - vanishing the injured main character, thus enabling a timeline that permitted the existence of the player (inhabiting a paradoxical copy of the main character)? Were the events started by the player "carrying over their consciousness from another dimension" by creating a new save file, thus creating a duplicate of the main character and becoming the antithetic existence the "Bugs" were created to purge?
So, I distinctly remember the true ending saying that Manan killing the player is indeed what ultimately set off the time loops, and the character continuing to antagonize the player and the others makes them the Big Bad- the ultimate causer of the conflict. But just to avoid an Edit War, I came here.
Edited by MasterNopenPossibly over exaggerated example about serious stuff that almost happened Film
So in Vampire's Kiss, I was bother in fact that people over exhausted about the "rape" scene. First of all, yes Peter did try to rape Alva but he stop when he hallucinate Alva as Rachel. Second of all, Alva think she was actually raped but in reality it stopped halfway. So all I was saying is that it was an attempted rape not a full-on rape. So should we fixed the examples or something else?
Edited by BubblepigopenGoodGamer14
I'm aware the user Good Gamer 14 has already been discussed here previously (#1, #2, #3 and #4) for edit wars and potentially biased edits, as well as having been suspended before for their behavior, but I'd like to point this out.
Earlier they made this entry on the Western Animation folder for Overshadowed by Controversy here regarding the She-Ra reboot. When I brought it up on the cleanup thread for potentially being biased (as in, stating that the entry came off as blaming Tumblr and it's "obsession with LGBT+ couples" for the show's changes), at least three people stated to cut it on grounds of bias. This appears to align with one of the previous complaints about them changing a mention of Gamergate (I'm aware its a banned topic but this is what was discussed) to "culture war" and getting defensive about it.
Is their behavior concerning enough for a report?
Edited by SkylaNoivernopenIt Pronouns for Non-binary
I was looking up the Real Life section for "It" Is Dehumanizing and came across this entry:
- Averted by some nonbinary people, who choose to reclaim "it" and use it as a pronoun to refer to themselves. Some also use "it" not for the sake of reclamation, but the sake of convenience due to it being easy to use.
Now, I can't speak for non-binary people, but I've never heard anyone suggest that using "it" is an appropriate pronoun for a person. In fact, it's generally considered to be highly offensive to do such a thing.
I tried looking this up, but I can't see any major groups that prefer "it" as a pronoun, and the Weasel Words used at the beginning make me doubt the authenticity of this entry. I very tempted to cut this entry on principle, but does anyone more familiar with the nonbinary community want to weigh in before I do so?
openXenoslayer won't improve
Xenoslayer 2137 just got sent their third indentation notifier by me, about this edit. (Thanks to wingedcatgirl for helping me with the link.) This is getting tedious.
Edited by MichaelKatsuroopenNoodle Incident vs. Riddle For The Ages
A lot of examples on NoodleIncident.Calvin And Hobbes fit better under Riddle for the Ages. I'm thinking of making a new page for the examples of that trope, but there are a lot of them. Is it worthwhile to do this, since the tropes are similar? Also, there wouldn't be many examples left on the Noodle Incident page, so in that case, should it be cut and moved to the work page?
Edited by nw09openGeneon/NBCUniversal Entertainment
Hello again. In light of Geneon's renaming to NBCUniversal Entertainment Japan (its current name) on December 9, 2013, is it appropriate to move Creator.Geneon to Creator.NBC Universal Entertainment Japan?
Edited by gjjonesopenCan I restore a deleted example?
So, a few weeks back, I deleted a Fan-Preferred Couple example from Final Fantasy XIII after the Clean-Up thread agreed that it wasn't an example.
Two days ago, the deleted example was put back by jlindsay. What should be done here?
openWicks are allowed in spoilers right?
There's been some edits saying otherwise...
openEdit on Culturally Sensitive Adaptation
Can someone give some feedback on this edit for Culturally Sensitive Adaptation? It's about the terms being used for the Romani people, and seems to have some sort of agenda.
Edited by nw09openPage cut without reason
I noticed that Curse Relay has been cut, but with no prior discussion or any given reason as to why. As far as I can remember, there wasn't much wrong about the page that warranted this.
Is this a form of vandalism?
Edited by Unnerving_PosterioropenBiased edits on page Anime
On the Sk8 the Infinity page, there was some biased information heavily favoring the ship Reki/Langa. I edited out that stuff last night and told them to add it to YMMV, because the ship isn't canon yet and might not become canon. So far all there's been is typical sports anime fanservice. Today someone added it back saying:
"langa's "ambiguously gay" isn't THAT ambiguous despite being placed under there for now (especially for anime which have to work around censors) so Power of Love fits (he essentially gasps and blushes when asked if he likes reki [question assumed by him], then realizes the "feeling" that makes him fly in ep9). if he suddenly goes "actually no homo bro" out loud in-series it'd be better filed under power of friendship. (unless tvtr doesn't list, ex., nge's kaworu under romantic tropes... he's only Very Heavily implied to be a love interest of shinji.) the power of love + mythical motifs is about his feelings, not reki's. ia the "romantic-tinged" was pretty ham"
I strongly disagree with this. Also another biased thing they put in the page was: "While it's It's apparent that Reki feels as if he can't reach Langa (and the star), unknowingly to Reki and Langa and the increasing tension that builds between them over it, for Langa, the star likely stands for Reki himself)."
For Langa the star didn't hold any significance. It was just a graffiti target on the wall that he could do a cool skateboarding trick with. Reki was the one who worked himself up about the star trying to reach it while Langa wasn't around.
Is there anything I can do? I don't want to be involved in an edit war, but this stuff is just flat out wrong. The user perona keeps edit warring and adding incorrect info to the page.
Edited by sakanoopenIs fast-tracking a proposed page possible?
I checked if there's already a Pro Wrestling of the 2020s page and turns out there still isn't. A lot has happened in the wrestling world within the past year so there's ought to be a page now.
My cousin actually proposed one in TLP last year (I believe it was even before the global lockdown). I tried creating one myself since it's taking too long but no avail so I'm asking now if fast-tracking it is possible (since it's an index page of an entire genre, and honestly because I'm itching to contribute in wrestling contents).
openOrganizing trope for adaptations
For the "Culturally Sensitive Adaptation" TLP, there are two examples that discuss multiple adaptations of a work at the same time. These are presumably in different mediums, so what folder do they go under?
I'd like to report that ~https://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Tropers/TheGoddessIsDead is the one who I got into the editing war with and kept making changes to the Accent Relapse trope even after I provided evidence that they were wrong.
