Locked Pages: Lock, UnLock and Edit requests

Go To

This thread is for requesting edits or unlocks to Locked Pages or for requesting locks. It can also be used for technical requests to moderators such as:

  • creating new pages in the Main/ and other restricted namespaces without going through Trope Launch Pad
  • moving discussion pages
  • moving reviews

Please keep the following guidelines in mind:

  1. Check Locked Pages and Permanent Red Link Club first. They can provide guidance on what are good and bad requests.
  2. Include working links in your request to the page(s) in question.
  3. If asking for edits, state your changes exactly as they should appear on the page, including proper Example Indentation, namespacing, and pothole and quote formatting. And make sure that what you want to add is actually a valid example.
  4. We do not edit archived articles, even to correct links.
  5. If you need to have the capitalization of a page title or namespace of a work fixed, ask here.
  6. If you need to remove a ghost wick, go here.
  7. To request a page to be moved along with its history, go here.
  8. Some locked pages have ongoing cleanup threads, like Complete Monster (Thread), Five-Man Band (Thread), and Magnificent Bastard (Thread). Other than purely technical requests, edits to these pages ought to be discussed in these threads first.
  9. Also, we do not do direct edits (other than changing wicks) to Magnificent Bastard or Complete Monster example lists. Rather, you need to do the edit to a sandbox page that follows the format Sandbox.Magnificent Bastard<Name of the example subpage> and Sandbox.Monster<Name of the example subpage> (e.g for Monster.Disney it's Sandbox.Monster Disney) and ask for it to be swapped in on Saturday for Magnificent Bastard and on Monday for Complete Monster.
  10. Inappropriate pages that keep being recreated, pages banned under The Content Policy and subpages that are disallowed (like Headscratchers pages for tropes) are valid reasons for requesting page locks.

NOTE: Edited with OP's permission.

On the subject of the Inheritance Cycle, the page image is oversized and low quality. Here's a better one that's 300 pixels.

I was looking at the Characters page for the Bible, and I was thinking...maybe we should add Judith to the list? I was looking at a friend's bible and apparently she has her own book, right before Esther. Plus, she was sorta badass, considering she beheaded a man and whatnot. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Book_of_Judith

Also on Inheritance Cycle, this bit under Royally Screwed Up can go.

YMMV, butthis might explain a thing or two...

Created a sandbox page, per Ask The Tropers.

Could Main.TV Tropes be redirected to Wiki.TV Tropes instead of the Home Page? I tried editing it, but it kept redirecting me. Is it locked?

New guy (werevampirewolf?), what you'll want to do is list the trope you want made exactly as the entry is supposed to be in the forum here. Put some kind of line break, just to make it easier to see for the mods. The Mod On Duty (or MOD for short) will then copy and paste the text from your edit (so include any formatting you think is necessary) straight onto the page.

Unless it's whining (not accusing you, but it's locked for a reason), that goes on some other wiki.

If you want to make a very large change, you can use Sandbox. The Inheritence Cycle and put your edits on that.

[up] The sandbox is actually Sandbox.Inheritance Cycle.

So. I went and made the Inheritance Cycle changes manually. Please tell me if I've missed anything.

Some points:

  • 0% Approval Rating: Is Galbatorix an example? The trope is that no-one likes the villainous overlord. Is that true?
  • With the new book we'll need completed markup. Now I've made those edits the sandbox will need to be resynched — if you want to do it there. Sorry about that.

Re: 1421: Calnos' suggestion for MLP is a big change. I'm leaving that one to a Pony Expert.

Re: 1427: ericap, don't think we're looking for more material. If you have to add stuff we'll need completed markup not just a link to The Other Wiki.

Re: 1429 Insignificant, pretty sure that's by design. The main page is very important, the wiki's page on itself is less so.

Re: 1432 Liberated Liberater. Done.

I also made some changes to the description (of Inheritance Cycle) since the current one was written by a detractor who was trying to play it up as a clone of Star Wars. My quick-and-dirty rewrite:

The novels tell the tale of Eragon, a farmboy who discovers a dragon egg in the mountains and is amazed when it hatches for him. He raises the dragon, Saphira, and becomes bonded with her as a Dragon Rider. Unfortunately, the evil Galbatorix, the ruler of The Empire who betrayed and destroyed the Dragon Riders long ago, finds out, and sends his impenetrably cowled Ra'Zac servants to capture Eragon and Saphira. They escape, but the Ra'Zac burn down Eragon's home and kill his uncle. Our heroes set out for revenge, joined by the village's old storyteller, Brom, who, as it turns out, is a former Dragon Rider himself. On their quest, Eragon and Saphira meet up with a Badass AntiHero with a Mysterious Past, rescue an elf princess, join the Varden (La Résistance), learn the truth about Eragon's past and his missing father, and face down foes far more powerful than themselves—eventually culminating in a final battle against Galbatorix himself.

The image formatting is weird on the Inheritance Cycle page...the pic is 300 px but it looks like it's in a 350 px window.

There's your problem. Change that 350 to a 300 and it'll be fixed.

Yeah, that was my fault. I copied the image into the sandbox, but didn't account for the width.

That's The Problem with Pen Island. It all depends on how you enter the Wiki Word. Use {{Shotacon}} for the proper capitalization. Sh Ot Aco N, Shotacon, Shota Con, Sho TA Con, S Hota CON — these are all the same page. Just fix any wicks that are incorrect.

For The Bible, something for Heel–Face Turn:

The Fox News page has Did Not Do The Research as a trope even if the DNDTR page specifically says not to use it as a trope. It should be removed.
