If you guys remember I've made note of how Ash's Water Type (excluding Lapras) can be paired up as Reptiles (Squirtle, Totodile), Crustaceans (Kingler, Corphish), Mustelidae (Buizel, Oshawott), and Frogs (Palpitoad, Frogadier).

Note: Mustelidae are a family of mammals consisting of Weasels, Otters, Badgers, etc.

My question is this: Which would you like to see as the next 'pair'?

I've considered Water Bugs (both actual aquatic bugs and spiders considering all Big Creepy-Crawlies in Pokemon count as Bugs).

Or perhaps a pair of mythical water creatures (like kappa, sea serpent, kelpie,Dobhar-chu, etc.). This option would offer more variety.

[up][up][up]Yeah, I'd hate to think that the writers would dump a long arc due to falling prey to Cab Driver's Fallacy.

EDIT: [up] Were it a series or two earlier, bugs would've been good in case Misty returned again. Now, not so much... In any case, I can't make any speculation on a new "pair" until a bunch of Gen 7 Pokemon are revealed.

On a side note, Order Restored in the YMMV page; at least what passes for order on a YMMV page.

So I've been wondering, is there any difference between Psychic powers and Aura in the anime?

I think the Best Wishes saga gets a lot of hate for a few reasons:

1) It came directly after DP, which many consider to be one of the best written arcs of the anime

2) Ash was given a soft-reboot in BW. Ash at the end of DP was the most experienced and powerful he ever was and people thought he had a chance of winning the league that time, and then in BW they make him a rookie again.

3) Trip was the weakest excuse for a main rival Ash had in the series

4) Some didn't like Iris as much as the other female characters

5) Wasted potentional with the Team Plasma/Team Rocket arc canned, the league being awful, the filler arc of islands, Dawn and Charizard's returns being underwhelming, Ash's Unova captured being developed poorly since he got too many pokemon

[up]My point is that you could make just as lengthy a list for reasons many fan communities hate AG, DP and XY too. BW being singled out, when it comes to one of the most broken and unpleasable fandoms there is, doesn't make sense, and it especially makes no sense to pretend that nobody liked it, which is a case of Blatant Lies as many enjoyed it while it aired and many still regard it well, especially the first half before the more commonly complained aspects surfaced.

Could someone please note the people on Ask The Tropers that I'm only "complaining on the forum" and sending "rude" private messages because with my editing turned off, I'm not allowed to argue my side on the Ask The Tropers page?

[up][up][up] Actual psychic powers in the anime mainly revolve around mind-reading or exerting force with one's mind. Aura seems to have more combat-oriented applications (super senses, energy blasts, etc.). It seems like any perceived overlap is due to the psychic type having broader abilities that just standard psychic powers.

Agree that it's too bad. Seems like he was starting to cool down, though his own admonition about using "rude" PMs EDIT: didn't help at all. And sockpuppetry, really? I'm not going to pothole here, I'll leave it to others.

With regard to his "justification" for making the changes to the YMMV pages, it is impossible to obtain a "majority" opinion about the Anime due to the fact that the series is written on the Fleeting Demographic Rule: Those fans who stay on for more than 2 series are a definite minority, yet it is very difficult to compare series without that sort of perspective.

Though I have to admit that he has a point regarding X&Y, though it cuts both ways: We're only halfway through at best. It's really still too soon to say that it, or the Mega Evolution specials, have truly grown the beard (back) onto the series. The writers still have plenty of time to mess this up. Conversely, though, the shouts in the other direction are too soon as well.

Is XY vs BW a continuation of the DP vs BW debate, or is it its own fight?

Depends who the participants are.

And yeah, honestly, I could see some work being done on the pages too. They did seem just a tad bit too objective in the statements. I don't like the idea that "YMMV should be assumed that the wording is an automatic opinion" myself. If it's not written like one, there's an issue. It doesn't have to say "this is an opinion", but it can still be written with things like "most/many fans believe", for instance.

Well, regardless, that's something for another time.

New episode from Serebii, no summary yet, but title is self-explanatory.

June 25th: A Fierce Fight at the Poké Ball Factory! Pikachu VS Meowth!!

I guess this is where that scene of Meowth holding a Poke Ball and recalling someone came from. So we're still in Laverre. I think the only scenes from the recent upcoming episodes preview that haven't been given an episode yet is Serena's next showcase.

[up] x 12.

Because if the ratings are spiking, the show's chances of continuing grow. If it continues post-XY, then Serena will be Put on a Bus and we start the whole thing over again. If Serena is going to not continue past XY, then the Ship Tease and such will steadily drop down (not even actual Ship Sinking, likely just a decrease overall) and with it our chances of having an Official Couple of any sort.

[up] x 8.

BW has many internalised aspects of the Franchise Original Sin - the issues were always there from the start, but there were strong ideas and potential early on which was never exploited properly. Iris' potential growth (and the chance to do the "budding Gym Leader" arc better than with Misty) wasn't really given as much weight as deserved, Axew never evolved once, Dragonite was given to her very cheaply just so she'd have a strong Dragon-type in time for Drayden, she was considered The Scrappy due to being a Bratty Half-Pint. Not to mention the early mentions of Team Plasma, which were dropped after the two-parter (Aborted Arc or not), or the fact that Team Rocket's newfound competent demeanour was too far in the opposite direction and alienated fans of their original personas...

So another thought about the anime hit me:

Was it ever stated which of the three Striation (sp) brothers is the oldest?

I guess this one doesn't just apply to the anime either.

[up][up]: One of the threads of present discussion ("Was Best Wishes really that bad") was an extension of a heavily-one-sided edit of the YMMV page that took place over the weekend which has since been reverted.

[up]: I think that the general presumption is that the Striation leaders are Half Identical Triplets. And, in a franchise where ages are vague to begin with, a difference of minutes is like trying to chart the actions of a single electron. Though Cilan seems the nominal leader in the Anime; I can't really speak for the other media.

Callaech: Although it's been right at the proper velocity to maintain the Willing Suspension, especially given that the target is a Longrunning Chaste Hero, the Ship Tease between Serena and Ash is not vital to the Anime's continued viability. What is vital is the continuity of character among the Longrunners; again, whichever way you looked at it, this was the "wrong foot" that Best Wishes started out on. Changes to character have to be believable, whichever direction they go, including stationary.

On that note, if the tease does die off, then it'll be interesting to see if we have a repeat of the end of Johto. Although, I would contend that the "Misty Exodus" would not likely have happened without Johto: Misty's fans and the Pokeshippers were expecting a payoff for the development that occurred in Kanto and Orange; when she left with no significant resolution, especially after Johto, a sizable faction left. On a side note, I contend that the Rage Quit after the Unova Conference was a similar indictment of the arc's overall lack of quality; prior to the Tournament Arc, there was still time to right the ship by definition.

In this case, Ash letting Serena down easy would be better than leaving the subplot hanging. Granted, there would have to be some change to Ash's character for the effect to remain smooth, but all that would mean is that he would be a Celibate Hero rather than a Chaste one. He could still "suffer" from Entendre Failure, however.

Conversely, it's probably better for the series overall to not get any higher than Maybe Ever After, due to its longevity and several suitors. Having one, recent though she may be, "win" would rile up Vocal Minorities of the Unpleasable Fanbase.

Once again, I wonder what the prodigals who left the series at certain points but still do Fan Works based on now-sorely-dated information think of Works they come across that are based on current info. Conversely, what about the youngins who wouldn't know about the Original Series, who make Fan Works based solely on the present with no window on the past.

I remember thinking Hey, it's Pidgeotto! Nice of them to remember it exists!

And then Pallet Party Panic happened.sad

The fact that the 4 episode battle Ash had way back with Team Rocket (Pidgeotto vs Ekans and Koffing) was the first battle I ever saw in the series, and it made that bird my favorite didn't help.

Starraptor was everything I wanted Pidgeot to be.

The only people who stopped watching simply because Misty left were those obsessive shippers or fanboys who seemingly only watched the show for Misty and/or Pokeshipping. I think those people seriously believed Misty had to be in the anime forever, or thought Pokeshipping was main plot of the anime, so they all got butt-hurt and left.

Its quite telling that everyone else didn't seem to care, since if you look up AG's ratings in both Japan and the U.S, they're still extremely high. There's also the fact that May became popular rather quickly, and the Contests episodes were the most well received addition to the show, so it basically killed any chance of Misty's return.

Also the mere fact that Misty was literally buried as a character almost the same way Tracey was for the next decade worth of episodes says a lot in itself.

... No. Never saw those episodes.
South Africa's TV channels... tend to be confusing at times with their schedules.

At the time the original series aired some years ago, they also had the Sinnoh series airing (Pokémon aired three times a week). Then they stopped airing the Sinnoh series, going to the original series. Then, after airing Ditto's Mysterious Mansion, they stopped airing Pokémon for a while, and when they aired it at last, it was the Sinnoh series again (Pokémon Diamond & Pearl: Galactic Battles), only once per week (Tuesdays). The week after they aired Gotta Get a Gible, they aired Promoting Healthy Tangrowth! instead of the first episode of Pokémon DP: Sinnoh League Victors, and the week after that, they skipped straight to Beauties Battling for Pride and Prestige! (in the Pokémon BW: Adventures in Unova series). And they skipped to that episode again after airing The Dream Continues!.

Dragon Riders is canceled and Team Dragon Rise is disbanded. I'm a failure as an administrator of two forums.

Also I don't think I ever cried from an anime episode, but Butterfree's departure did give me feels (never watched Pikachu's Goodbye, not like I would care though).
