Subpages cleanup: Complete Monster

Go To

During the investigation of recent hollers in the Complete Monster thread, it's become apparent to the staff that an insular, unfriendly culture has evolved in the Complete Monster and Magnificent Bastard threads that is causing problems.

Specific issues include:

  • Overzealous hollers on tropers who come into the threads without being familiar with all the rules and traditions of the tropes. And when they are familiar with said rules and traditions, they get accused (with little evidence) of being ban evaders.
  • A few tropers in the thread habitually engage in snotty, impolite mini-modding. There are also regular complaints about excessive, offtopic "socializing" posts.
  • Many many thread regulars barely post/edit anywhere else, making the threads look like they are divorced from the rest of TV Tropes.
  • Following that, there are often complaints about the threads and their regulars violating wiki rules, such as on indexing, crosswicking, example context and example categorization. Some folks are working on resolving the issues, but...
  • Often moderator action against thread regulars leads to a lot of participants suddenly showing up in the moderation threads to protest and speak on their behalf, like a clique.

It is not a super high level problem, but it has been going on for years and we cannot ignore it any longer. There will be a thread in Wiki Talk to discuss the problem; in the meantime there is a moratorium on further Complete Monster and Magnificent Bastard example discussion until we have gotten this sorted out.

Update: The new threads have been made and can be found here:

     Previous Post
Complete Monster Cleanup Thread

Please see the Frequently Asked Questions and Common Requests List before suggesting any new entries for this trope.

IMPORTANT: To avoid a holler to the mods, please see here for the earliest date a work can be discussed, (usually two weeks from the US release), as well as who's reserved discussion.

When voting, you must specify the candidate(s). No blanket votes (i.e. "[tup] to everyone I missed").

No plagiarism: It's fair to source things, but an effortpost must be your own work and not lifted wholesale from another source.

We don't care what other sites think about a character being a Complete Monster. We judge this trope by our own criteria. Repeatedly attempting to bring up other sites will earn a suspension.

What is the Work

Here you briefly describe the work in question and explain any important setting details. Don't assume that everyone is familiar with the work in question.

Who is the Candidate and What have they Done?

This will be the main portion of the Effort Post. Here you list all of the crimes committed by the candidate. For candidates with longer rap sheets, keep the list to their most important and heinous crimes, we don't need to hear about every time they decide to do something minor or petty.

Do they have any Mitigating Factors or Freudian Excuse?

Here you discuss any potential redeeming or sympathetic features the character has, the character's Freudian Excuse if they have one, as well as any other potential mitigating factors like Offscreen Villainy or questions of moral agency. Try to present these as objectively as possible by presenting any evidence that may support or refute the mitigating factors.

Do they meet the Heinousness Standard?

Here you compare the actions of the Candidate to other character actions in the story in order to determine if they stand out or not. Remember that all characters, not just other villains, contribute to the Heinousness Standard

Final Verdict?

Simply state whether or not you think the character counts or not.

I just reserved The Hitman's Bodyguard. From what I've heard, there is suprisingly something to talk about.

If Drake Clawfang wants it so bad though, I may consider handing it over though.

[up] Well, I mean, considering they did go through the initial effortpost and everything? I'm going to say swiping it without previously discussing it with them is a pretty bad move.

Drake rarely has actually participated here. It's an honest mistake. But yes, please check if someone has a character/work reserved first, please, Drake.

Let them talk it out and figure it out from there. No biggie who ultimately does the effortpost as long as it's done well. smile

It was actually not through the EP here, but through the shared Midnight Screenings review with The Glass Castle that I learned there will surprisingly be something to talk about.

I did Drake Clawfang a solid though. I swapped out my name for theirs.

[up] Go for it.

Since Jei from TMNT was already brought up I may as well clear stuff up. I was gonna wait, but obviously can't really do that now. just bugs me

Yes, he murders a family. But this happens off-screen, and there is no indication of any bodies, or even any sign of a struggle.

Yes, he ransacked a village and wiped out many soldiers and villagers. Again, this is off-screen. There is signs of a battle, such as smoke rising from the village, and arrows being shot at some buildings, and claw marks.

There isn't a single body. Anywhere. And that's the biggest problem. There are signs that a battle obviously took place, but there aren't any bodies around. Whether or not that falls into Offstage Villainy is up for debate.

Everything else is accurate. He Mind Raped the Turtles; he brainwashed Sumo Kuma and his group of soldiers; he tried to kill Pugtaro (yes I'm calling him that) and possess his body.

So I'm not sure he counts, given a lot of what he does is offscreen.

I write stories and shiz. You can read them here.

Well, Since everyone didn't care to answer my previous post regarding who is the Complete Monster whose personal crimes sticks in your head and hating him/her for a good reason in your guys opinions. I think I'm fine skipping it. Anyways, Here's a rough draft for Yuto:

  • Twin Star Exorcist: Yuto Ijika who is Benio's twin brother and Rokuro's former best friend turned out to be the one who mastering a tragedy that caused 18 People died by tricking most of the innocent students by corrupting them into a mindless Impurity which ended up Rokuro forced to killing them and ended up set the dormitory ablaze. This inflicts so much trauma that Rokuro gave up his dreams being the greatest exorcist. When Rokuro met [spoiler:Yuto] again two years after the tragedy, Yuto manages to taunts about what he has done in the past. When Benio found out the truth and refused to accept it, Yuto gave "The Reason You Suck Speech" to her which led her spirit to be broken given that she was motivated by her. When Yuto makes his second appearance, It was revealed that he was the one who corrupted Rokuro's childhood friend, Mayura, into a mindless impurity which not only pisses off Rokuro, But also Mayura's father Seigen. When Yuto fights with Seigen, Seigen ends up almost losing his arm and quitting his job as an exorcist while his daughter was unconscious after the damage that Yuto caused. When the Twin Star Exorcist manages to fight with Yuto again, He then shows his sadistic streak in the battle by breaking Rokuro's arm and wounding Benio's leg and sadistically stomping on it. He then manages to take Benio's precious hairpin and then smashed it. Fortunately, He got defeated after the time being. However, Even after being defeated for the time being, It was revealed that Yuto worked for another big bad and then backstabs him by absorbing him after he got into his full power. When the Twin Star Exorcist met with Yuto again, he then proceeds to taunt the two that he killed the founder of exorcist union, Abe no Seimei when he was recovering. Not only that, But he also traps Benio in a barrier and nearly killed her just to taunt Rokuro so that Yuto could see Rokuro's true Impurity form. Fortunately they are saved by the Head of Exorcist union, Arima. When Yuto asked Rokuro for a final battle, He threatens to destroy the world if Rokuro doesn't met with his demands and this also resulted Rokuro break his partnership with Benio. When Rokuro almost defeats Yuto and refuses to kill him, Yuto then pulls his last trick and threatens that he will make Rokuro forget about his loved ones and tries to launch an attack into the human world. This resulted with Rokuro going insane and delivered a No-Holds Barred Beatdown to him. Even with his last breath,Yuto manages to taunt him by congratulating Rokuro becoming the Cataclysm King that will bring the end of the world. A sadist who loves to inflict misery towards others, Yuto stands out as Rokuro's most personal foe.

Thoughts on the writeup? Sorry if this was too long. I was actually trying to list Yuto's rapsheet and oh boy how long his rapsheet is from causing the Hiinatsuki Tragedy that ends up making Rokuro a pessimistic guy when he asked about returning to the exorcist profession,How he loves to sadistically taunts Rokuro,Making Benio's spirit broken and so on........So yeah, Sorry if the writeup was too long sad You could review the write up that I made and PM me about how to do the right write-up for Yuto himself and I'll try to use that version instead.

With 8 yes votes (including my own and Scraggle's "weak" one), here's the writeup for Ultron (effortpost is here in case anyone else wants to vote). This will be Ultron's 7th incarnation as a CM, which I think is 4th on the list of characters with most CM incarnations, Red Skull has one more with 8, while Brainiac and Joker each have double-digit ones (I think Joker has a few more):

  • Iron Man: Steel Terror, by Dean Wesley Smith: Ultron, the Robotic Psychopath who was created by Henry "Hank" Pym but who turned against him and wants to Kill All Humans, is the Big Bad of this "Super Thriller" for young adults. He starts off by having a reprogrammed Tess-One steal synthetic vibranium, a substance which could theoretically make any other substance indestructible. He uses the vibranium on himself and Tess-One, as well as on robotic copies of himself. This is only a precursor to his ultimate plan: He has androids steal nuclear ore—other thefts are only stopped due to The Avengers note —and have his robotic clones use Neutron Bombs to destroy humanity while leaving everything else intact, leaving Ultron and his clones in control; throughout the book, we get a glimpse of Ultron's thoughts, and he relishes the idea of humanity being wiped out. While he seems to care about his clones, this may in fact be merely narcissism, as once the Avengers manage to destroy them, Ultron, with what would be his final words, declares himself merely "annoyed...a great deal", before taunting Iron Man about destroying him, the rest of the Avengers, and humanity itself.

I proposed this one a couple of months back and the result was a lot of abstentions and a general feeling that there had been too many Doctor Who candidates lately. Hopefully people are less Whoed out now so I thought I'd propose this one again! The Collector from Season 15's "The Sun Makers".

Who is he and what does he do?

The Collector is the representative of a race running a MegaCorp in the far future who have transplanted the population of Earth, which by now is exhausted, first to Mars and then to Pluto, around which they have built a series of artificial suns. The humans are little more than slaves, with the Collector taxing everything they do, including breathing, in order to finance the operation and make as much profit as possible. This often results in a vicious circle: One individual is nearly driven to suicide when he finds himself paying more tax than he believed, ordered to work extra shifts and take special medication (which is also taxed) so he doesn't need to sleep.

The Collector reveals that once the planet is considered no longer economically viable, the humans will be abandoned to die when the suns run out of fuel. He employs cruel methods of execution for dissidents, sentencing Leela to a public steaming in which the victim is boiled to death. He gives the entire workforce time off to view the execution…then, when it fails to satisfy him, he orders unpaid overtime to make up for the loss in production. When a rebellion started by the Doctor seems set to topple his regime, the Collector's response is to try and release poison gas that will kill everyone in the city except him.

Heinousness

The Collector is a tyrannical sadist. He has enslaved an entire planet and is planning to leave them all to die once they're no longer useful. In the meantime, he is keeping them docile by lacing the atmosphere with a chemical that keeps them in a constant state of fear. Not content with subjecting Leela to a painful death, he has the chamber wired for sound so he can hear her screams, waxing lyrical about the joy of the sound and noting "This is the moment when I get a real sense of job satisfaction." He is equally gleeful at the idea of wiping out everyone in the city. His response to the rebellion is to blame it on his subordinates showing too much kindness to the workers, claiming that grinding oppression of the masses is the only policy that pays dividends.

Redeeming Features?

Absolutely none: The Collector is the epitome of a Bad Boss. As well as instructing his subordinate Hade to put up the reward money for the Doctor's capture, he uses his personal guard as a human shield during the rebellion. His plan to release poison gas will indiscriminately kill both those rebelling and those who are still loyal to him, including the guard who has just rescued him and is holding the Doctor at gunpoint just a few feet away.

Verdict

As the Doctor puts it, "Don't you think commercial imperialism is as bad as military conquest?" (The Collector's reply: "We have tried war but the use of economic power is far more effective.") Despite the show already having several monsters, through a combination of scale, greed, sadism and sheer sociopathy, the Collector still manages to stand out.
