@Dragon 573: Hard Light might be a bit advanced for the setting, I suppose it depends upon the capabilities. (The year is 2063, with a bit of a technological boost from magic, etc.) As for the speech pattern, there aren't any inherent problems, just remember for the character that this is supposed to be romance.

@Scrounge: Litchi Hikari Club? Just looking at the picture on the page should be sufficient to realize the answer is going to be no.*

Also, Japanese influence is not required (that wasn't the problem), it's just that this kind of thing tends to be much more popular over there. And it's not really the character herself (besides the tone problems), it's just that in this setting she shouldn't exist.

Let me give some examples of the tone I'm looking for, like any of: Azumanga Daioh, K On, Honey Crush, Nekogami Yaoyorozu, Morita-san Wa Mukuchi, Prism, Saki, IonoTheFanatics, Kashimashi Girl Meets Girl, Octave, Sasameki Koto, Mahou Sensei Negima, Wife And Wife, and probably lots of others I'm forgetting about.*

There's plenty of fun and varied character options that don't have to have some twisted dark backstory. tongue

The robot girl sounds better. :)

[up] ...Is the knowledge really that tightly controlled that only the government has access to it, and nobody's ever created life via alchemy in pursuit of something they couldn't find in the people around them? (And I'm not ruling out the possibility that everyone involved in her creation was arrested after the play closed, though that might not be the best thing for Blondie's acting career.)

The character herself is kind, cheerful, naive, and flirtatious, though she can be harder to deal with when she's "in character". (Someone put her in a meido outfit once. They never got to explain why, but their house remains spotless to this day.)

I'm thinking Kanako should be in the music club as the resident 'traditional' music girl. And I had been thinking of a robot girl myself, but in the interest of diversity I'll come up with something different.

[up]...We already have one robot. If two, why not three? (They will not combine. You do not combine with a fragile prototype that barely functions as it is.)

Also, you spelled "armadillos" wrong in your signature. :)

OBJECTION!!! Negima clearly contains yuri elements. Secchan and Konoka, anyone?

Just being a bit silly. XP Anyways, I will make sure of that, Sonzai. Now I am ready for launch.

@Sachiko: Yeah, obviously. I guess that's what I get for making lists before bed. tongue

@Scrounge: If you can address the concerns I had (and promise not to break the tone), then put up a signup sheet for her. The concerns are:

  • No Alchemy (especially not for Creating Life)
    • That's not possible in this setting in that way. All life must have a life force to exist, either through:
    • Natural Processes (including genetically engineered life and Youkai)
    • Creating something automatic that gains life through complexity (for Robot Girls, etc.)
    • Transformation of already existing life (like transforming a cat into a cat girl, or some types of Youkai)
    • And yes, I think the methods for creating life would be tightly regulated, it's not like anyone can just set up their own IVF clinic. tongue
  • No Rocky Horror Picture Show References
  • Otherwise, her personality sounds fine, but I have a hard time believing that the backstory would be irrelevant to her character in the RP.

Also, in other (mostly unrelated) news, I'm going to be posting signups for an interdimensional RP relatively soon that one can use a much wider variety of characters in.

Oh? Hmmm... Now I'm wondering if I should just wait for that one and enter Ryuuzaki in it instead of this... To be honest she's not all that well suited for a yuri series, ahah. Hmmm...

...Yeah, think I might do that. Sorry. >.< Maybe I'll try and think up something else to use in this, but... We'll see.

[up] It's going to be an interdimensional fantasy adventure where characters*

are summoned to fulfill a quest to save the kingdom from the mighty Elemental King. Or not. It's going to be original characters only, and has elements of RPG Mechanics 'Verse and Affectionate Parody. It is also most definitely a combat, intrigue, and plot-based RP, so really not much at all like this one, I guess.

Yeah, I think the modern day samurai fits that one better than this, ahah. Looking forward to it, then.

...Now I just need to figure out a replacement character for this... Hmmm.

If I may ask... Why specifically no alchemy, as opposed to other magics or sciences? (...I want a homunculus rather than some sort of golem, because I can't come up with a good way for any sort of golem to be humanesque to the touch.)

...We should probably continue this conversation through PM...

Anyhow, I'll get to work on some other characters in a bit...

Does an AI need a surname? I'm thinking about just having her call herself Alexandria, after the great library.

Her surname could be her manufacturer, model number, her programmer's surname, etc.

"Here it is," he said nervously.

  • Name: Alexandria
  • Age: physically 16
  • Gender: Female
  • Species: Artificial Intelligence
  • Sexuality: Demisexual.
  • Appearance: A light girl of average height, with shoulder length blonde hair (it's intended to be blonde, anyway. Really, her whole body has a bluish-white tint to it), wire frame glasses, and three books tucked against her chest.
  • Personality: Generally sweet and honest. Her voice inflection changes only minimally, raising slightly when others would go into a frenzy, Dropping slightly when others would sob. Because of this, she's developed a habit of prefacing her speech with a conditional to communicate her emotions when her changes in behavior are too subtle. She hates others thinking of her as an AI instead of a person, becoming angry and declaring that she is "not a public utility!"
  • Skills: Being an advanced AI, she can remotely (dependent on line of sight and restricted by ethics) interface with computers, and access to any information that has been stored on the internet... as long as she has wifi. Needless to say, she used to spend a lot of time at coffee-shops. Places where she's cut off from internet access make her clausterphobic, and she has developed a habit of wincing or twitching when she finds something that she immediately regrets seeing. Her memory is excellent, although not perfect, and she can immitate voices, although to do so for profit without permission violates her ethical subroutines.
  • Biography: Seven (she says it was more like 4.9, as only one other than her was even approaching 'completeness', while the others were 'unfinished') AI were created in a program aimed at creating docile personal assistants for politicians and military operations. The first three were a stunning success, being entirely obediant and completely mindless. As she tells it, she was fourth, and the only one to have a complete personality. The only one to become, as she put it, "a whole person." After her sapience was discovered, the project was shut down, deemed a risk too great to take.
The fifth, sixth, and seventh activated while incomplete. The Sixth and Seventh, able to reason enough to realize they existed, but with under-developed emotions, logically assumed that they, the experiments, would be terminated, and proceded to attack the programmers, but were deleted by the other five (Fifth thought of it as euthanizing them, while Alexandria was convinced that, given their incompleteness, 'they weren't even alive enough to die, really. They really were just faulty data.' From her point of view, she'd done nothing more drastic than performing server maintainence). The fifth, who took up the moniker of "Trevyr," possessed an incomplete sense of identity, and being whole enough to realize he was empty, he attempted to terminate his programming, but was convinced to try to make an identity for himself
The programmers, compassionate souls, saw them as sapient life, and refused to 'delete' them, and with impassioned appeals, managed to convince the project managers to allow Trevyr and Alexandria to go free, with the first, second, and third staying to complete their primary directive. She enrolled in a school out of a craving for interaction with Organic life and a chance to find better ways to express emotion (she can do it beautifully when reading from a script, but anywhere else, nope!).

And here's one from me. I do hope she's okay.

  • Name: Komori Yue
  • Age: 17 (Looks 15)
  • Gender: Female
  • Species: Vampire (formerly human)
  • Sexuality: Predominately lesbian, will occasionally go for guys.
  • Appearance: Long silver hair, pale skin, ruby eyes, and a fondness for loligoth fashion. Height slightly above average, occasionally augmented by heels. Her teeth are extra pearly white, and she takes very good care of them.
  • Personality: Somewhat withdrawn, playfully haughty, and just a tad bit snarky. Very rich, and not above flaunting it. Can be playfully creepy at times, but is rarely malevolent. Likes atmospheric lighting, gothic architecture, and being alone with the people she's fond of. Dislikes garlic (the smell makes her sick), organized religion, bright light, and body glitter. Does not drink wine, but would if she weren't underage.
  • Skills: Strong, fast, and resistant to pain. Doesn't age. Is reasonably clever and classy. Can fly, but has difficulty navigating from too high up. Fairly good with any animal that doesn't have an instinctual dislike of her.
  • Biography: The granddaughter of a European socialite and a wealthy Japanese businessman, Yue has always lived her life in the lap of luxury. Was turned by an old friend of the family at a fancy party when she was fifteen, though she's not sure of the particulars of how. Was initially less-than-thrilled with her new condition, but is starting to explore the upsides.
  • Role: Friendly Neighborhood Vampire, Lesbian Vampire, Tsundere, Deadpan Snarker, Ojou
  • Club: Student Council
  • Year: 2

@Scrounge: Komori Yue sounds great - accepted. I'll explain the rest for the other idea in a PM.

@Dragon 573: Alexandria is accepted as well. Although for this setting she should probably have some sort of physical portable emitter device, as the school isn't set up for holograms everywhere, and self-reinforcing Hard Light is too advanced for this setting. However, it can be something internal or non-obvious like jewelry, and shouldn't really affect her or her interactions significantly.

And yes, vampires in general are totally fine, and AI's do not need to have surnames. smile

•Name: Asukai Miyabi

•Age: 15

•Gender: Female

•Species: Human

•Sexuality: Likes the ladies

•Appearance: One of her 'Performance' looks

•Personality: Miyabi is eternally cheerful about almost literally everything; if the world were to explode tomorrow, she'd just grin and exclaim that she'd make this day the best ever. Her imagination can get carried away sometimes, but she's generally a nice girl all things considered. It's just that sometimes she doesn't act too bright; while actually fairly intelligent, she just acts kind of dumb around others. This is partly because she thinks everyone expects it of her. If she were to actually make friends it might be that she could feel more free to offer her more intellectual side to the world. As it is, dumb makes right.

•Skills: Unquestionably a talented singer, although her songwriting skills are apparently nonexistant (one actually included the words 'the blue sky is a blue sky'). Despite her in-class airheadedness she's actually a surprisingly good student. Also reasonably skilled with things required of an idol singer - parapara dancing, looking inexplicably and unbearably cute, etc. Also a closeted rabid gamer, since it's something she can do alone. Can be witty when she applies herself, though more often she obfuscates it in order to keep up appearances. Also, cosplay.

•Biography: An only child of wealthy parents, Miyabi has grown up not having to worry about money. Her parents noted an early interest in music and got her lessons to become a proper singer even. When she announced to them that she wanted to be an idol singer they pulled strings and got her a contract with a popular agency. For her first few years she'd honestly been a bit 'out there', though once she entered middle school a tutor's help made something click in her mind. Yet she found that being absent minded and clumsy actually helped sell copies of her first album despite her failed attempts at songwriting.

Seeing that she followed a policy of 'keep dumb and carry on'. After a couple albums of music with ridiculously bad lyrics, she changed gears and began to adapt other styles of music into J-Pop. As a result she has a small but dedicated fan base.

However due to being sheltered by overprotective parents, she's never really been able to develop friendships with classmates. Getting into a well-known high school will help her break that trend, she hopes. Fear of what girls will think of her if she's too smart keep her in her normal mode of behavior though.

One busted-up robot, made to order.

  • Name: Beta
  • Age: 16
  • Gender: Female
  • Species: Gynoid (prototype) with Conductivity Gel "filling"
  • Sexuality: Bisexual, noteworthily submissive
  • Appearance: A small, silver-skinned mechanical girl with visible joints, glowing blue eyes, and short blue hair. She moves slowly and walks with a noticeable limp, and is generally in some kind of uniform. On the small of her back is is the greek letter β, as well as her model number (B-TKN-002). Very feminine build, but possesses only modest curves.
  • Personality: Shy and sad, Beta would love to be around people and help them out in whatever way she can, but is afraid of rejection. In addition, she suffers from self-esteem issues regarding her damaged and obsolete prototype body, and fears that one day, possibly very soon, she'll be nothing but garbage.
  • Skills: Listens well and takes orders easily. A reasonably-skilled mediator who finds herself naturally drawn to brokering compromises between those who are at odds when allowed. She is also capable of minor repairs to many machines, as well as functioning as a housekeeper and caregiver.
  • Biography: Created as a robotic caregiver and companion, Beta was designed to provide basic care and a friendly face so that the human (or otherwise biological) medical staff could focus more on the bigger picture. However, the project was shut down, and, with their funding pulled, Beta's creators faced an ever-increasing difficulty in providing for her. Though she did her best to find work, often as the personal assistant of some rich eccentric, her creators seemed increasingly conflicted... And the mixed messages weren't helped when the team eventually disbanded, leaving her the product of a broken home, and worse, without access to her own blueprints. She begged her creators to tell her what to do, until, eventually, one of them replied. "Live your life, Beta. That's all we ever really wanted to see you do." And so, eventually, the little lost robot wound up at Mitoshin Academy, where she hoped to find friendship and have her eyes opened to the world. She also wouldn;t mind finding a good mechanic; as the years have worn on, her body has begun to break down, and she is in need of extensive maintenance.
