It's basically Ondoy/Ketsana Up To Eleven. And typhoon Gener didn't even stay in the Philippines for the full 11 days of non-stop raining. It's the westerly wind that caused most of the Great Flood!

Oh, you. I lol'd.
Not to mention the infrastructure here is pretty bad. Some of the highways here have asphalt so thin, the resulting potholes looked like maps of the islands. Woe betide the motorists who hit the deeper potholes in EDSA at full speed.
On another note, we've been having a dry spell at the Olympics lately. Then, it hit me that the sports Filipinos are sort of good at start with B's; Basketball, Boxing, Billiards... Baraha(cards) maybe? Sadly, no dice for DotA, or shatong, though. Meh times.

Sidestep that, bro.Politics, politics, politics. The number one reason why the Philippines isn't going anywhere right now.
I found an interesting comment which says we should send the Badjaos to the Olympics to get medals in swimming. After all, they're so much accustomed to water that they could give Michael Phelps a run for his money. But thing is, Olympic swimming only measure how fast you could swim, not necessarily how long you can stay in the water.
Besides, the Philippines is not known for sending minorities to the Olympics. Bottom line: Everything aesthetic (including sports) isn't very important in our lives if we can't even feed ourselves. As a result, we have geared ourselves for survival, food for the soul be damned.
I think the government should at least give support to the athletes for their training. Just a regular allowance would be enough, especially if said athlete is the breadwinner of the family. No wonder a lot of Filipino boxers want to go pro right away because there's no money in amateur boxing. But the thing with not thinking too much about the pros, you could give it your all without worrying about getting injured.
Grassroots programs IMO is the best way to improve sports in our country. There are a lot of untapped athletic talent in the provinces and among the natives but sadly, the media lets us think that the Philippines consists only of Luzon, and that Visayas and Mindanao are foreign regions. And politics should definitely not get in the way of recruiting the best athletes in the country, no matter what their race and political affiliations are. They must be only awesome at what they do to get recruited, and not because they have people on the inside.
I had a theory that politicians and criminal organizations alike have a Weather-Control Machine with them to control the weather to their liking.
Politicians simply try to get kickbacks from road repair projects, which is why most of them are never finished. Thieves simply wait for The Great Flood to subside to a manageable level, then boom. No wonder why we're more afraid of robbers than of The Great Flood.

Well said, man. We will forever be doomed to mediocrity in a lot of things we do until the status quo is changed and the overall crab mentality and snarkiness of the populace lessens, which is, to say, a longshot. IMO I think the country should aim to be more strategic than tactical.
That Weather-Control Machine theory is hilarious as it is plausible. Needless to say, one person's suffering is another's cash. It's schadenfreude with profit. I bet they hide it in Mt. Mayon, with lava moats and laser hallways and an angry bakunawa.

Sidestep that, bro.God created mankind, but everything else is MADE IN CHINA!!! Yeah, including that bakunawa. Phew.
And they hide that Weather-Control Machine inside Mt. Taal, with sharks. With Frickin' Laser Beams attached to their heads.

An equally epileptic theory I thought up involves the Ilog Pasig. It seems to be tied to the state of the government. The government is filthy, and so is the Pasig. So long as one is dirty, the other cannot be clean.
Interesting theory, indeed...
If you wanna PM me, send it to my mrsunshinesprinkles account; this one is blorked.Sorry to barge in, I'm not Filipino (actually French), but I have a Tagalog-related question to ask of you.
I want to add a quote from the Yarudora game Sampaguita, a very heavily Philippines-themed PS 1 game, for the I Owe You My Life quotes section. Can someone please tell me what's the correct spelling for the Tagalog words the character, Boy, says to the protagonist after the latter has saved him from an assassination attempt by the Yakuza, in the quote below? Since the game was released in Japan only (the quote is actually a translation of mine from the original Japanese script), the words were written in Katakana, so...

Besides that, they still have to swim from Manila Bay to Sangley Point in Cavite, 26 km distance, while drunk. Not to mention Manila Bay is disgustingly polluted.
On an unrelated note, today is the 40th anniversary of the declaration of Martial Law, c/o President Marcos' Proclamation 1081.
