agreed.
Minmay may have been an annoying, at times destestably selfish human being. But damn could she sing.

The song to play as Humanity faces an Alien Invasion.
Keep Rolling OnThe only time I remember her being very selfish was near the end of DYRL, and she apologized for that pretty quickly once Hikaru pointed it out.
Now, Robotech's Minmei I remember being far, far worse.
Macross Plus 1
Damn, it's been a long time since I did any Macross stuff. 7 and SDF are a little beyond my reach at the moment, so here I am about to start on the english dub of Macross Plus.
Nice opening sequence.
Man is this kid cocky. He does have the skills to back it up, though.
That's right, I keep forgetting that Macross goes interstellar like it ain't no thang...
Oooh, a brain-powered plane!
So, the new Valk is supposed to have its very own Fold tech... they were only just starting to achieve that in Frontier, come to think of it...
Goa seems to be having health problems. Given the last two people I saw taking mysterious pills, this doesn't bode well for him.
...the Idol Singer is an AI? Nifty.
People seem to have history with each other.
<some time later>
Pretty dogfights are pretty, as it standar-
Goa, wtf?! You douchebag! Isamu totally just saved your bacon, and that's how you repay him?! I totally hope Isamu kicks your ass later!
<sigh> Well, the animation is good, as usual, as is the OST. Things are starting off kinda slow, but we'll see how that changes in the future episodes.
Actually this is the first time it gets used, both chronologically in universe and in production terms. It was even used in Macross 7, just not a lot since they only had a couple of 19s and the one time they tried it with a 17 it worked, but not well.
[[quoteblock]Goa seems to be having health problems.]
Guld. His given name is Guld. Guld Goa-Boman in full, but if you're only going to use one name, just use his given name, not only part of his family name.
Watch again closely. That wasn't deliberate on Guld's part, it was only a stray thought. The YF-21's neural interface systems have trouble telling the difference between deliberate commands and random thoughts that pop up if the pilot doesn't stay extremely focused.
This does take place a whopping 30 years after the original series, the original Macross had interstellar capability but didn't ever use it before its Fold drive vanished, and they've inherited Zentraedi space maps from the fleets they've "cultured". Not too surprising they'd expand really quickly.
It isn't that they're just beginning to achieve it in Frontier, it's that the technology is really damned expensive and requires hooking an external engine to the Valkyrie to make it work. Not feasible to mount on every mass-produced fighter they create.
What they're dealing with in Frontier was making better navigation systems that could handle Fold Faults, IIRC.
PS. You're watching the dub? Then you will probably find it hilarious that Isamu is Walter White.

Maybe he was just putting on the tough guy there, secretly mortified but unwilling to openly admit it out of pride?
Eh, future episodes will show, one way or the other.
One thing you can say about Macross Plus is that it's soundtrack kicks utter ass.
Your momma's so dumb she thinks oral sex means talking dirty.I concur.
Although I'm really having a lot of Top Gun flashbacks with it.

I don't. Gundam 0083's soundtrack is more Top Gun-ish than Macross Plus'.
I meant the show in general, not just the soundtrack.
"Pulse" is a good song to just chill out to.

Your momma's so dumb she thinks oral sex means talking dirty.Macross Plus, ep 2, first 10 minutes
I'm so pleased to see Guld get a right and propa scolding.
Concert's got some weird-ass vfx goin' on. Music's kinda bizarre, too. I mean, granted, I was expecting something closer to Sheryl's or Ranka's concerts - or, hell, even Fire Bomber's - but this stuff? Pfeh, I'm not impressed.
Aaaand there's some kind of conspiracy shit goin' on with the virtual idol. Great. Doubly so, since this jerkface looks like frickin' Aizen...
Macross Plus ep 2 (remainder of the episode)
Isamu is a (lovable) dork, Guld has a grudge, Lady's got issues.
Also, I am SUPER PISSED that we only got the veeeeeery last bit of My Boyfriend is a Pilot in English. Damn you, people who made this show! You damnable TEASE!!
Wow, even the lady doing the singing (Miyune? Myune?) doesn't like Sharon's shit.
...Either Sharon is one vengeful Ghost in the Machine, or that's one neat Hollywood Hacking job.
...Guld's one stubborn SOB, I'll give him that. Since he's ramming that door hard enough and enough times that his shoulder's bleeding...
...heh. Boys will be boys, no matter how old they are.
ED song easily remains the best thing about Plus so far, but I do realize that I'm only about halfway through it.
Macross Plus 3
...how the hell did this happen, Isamu?
WTF Guld?! Gawd, you're such a heel!
Madness? Madness?! THIS! IS! MACROOOOOSS!
...It's a strange, strange world when the Hot-Blooded Idiot Hero feels like the Only Sane Man.
... 'bout time we get a decent song.
Dammit Aizen!
...I'm confused. And not in a fun way.
Macross Plus ep FINAL
...well, that was a thing.
In the long run, Plus didn't really do a lot for me. The ED for the first three eps was great, but none of the rest of the soundtrack really stood out for me very much. Isamu was pretty much the only "main" character I thought was likable in the first 75% of the series, I found a lot of the stuff with Sharon to be oddly confusing - and this is coming from a guy who loves the shit out of MGS2 for cryin' out loud...
The first and last episodes were pretty good, but I felt that the middle kinda fell off a bit.
It was all very pretty, of course, but that's a standard for the franchise.
In conlusion, I'd probably have to say that Plus is probably my least favorite Macross entry to date. ...either it, or Zero. For a franchise that basically runs on its Idol Singers and Love Triangles, Macross Plus suffers in that I didn't give a shit about the main Love Triangle (I found myself shipping Myung/Guld and Isamu/Mechanic Lady, and Sharon was just plain cruddy.
...done Plus, Frontier, Zero, and the OV As for 7 (Encore and Dynamite)... there's what, the original show and the series proper for 7? That's basically what's left?
There's one more series, but it's considered Fanon Discontinuity by many.
Yeah, well, there's A certain sequel series considered Fanon Discontinuity that I completely adore (and another one that I tolerate without issue), so it's probably worth checking out too.
Which one was that? Because if you're talking about Macross II, there's nothing fanon about that discontinuity, it was completely exiled from continuity from on high when the original creative team (or at least Kawamori) returned for Plus and Seven.
Late now, but there's the big reveal coming by the end of the month regarding Delta.
Nice.
Yep. Something to do with who the main characters are.
No official website yet though.

Okay, I've spent the last few hours looking for it in futility, so someone please tell me if it exists (and maybe provide a link???) - is there, or is there not, a Fire Bomber version of Do You Remember Love?
You just can't beat the original as far as I'm concerned.
