Wham Line / Dream SMP

Go To

In a roleplay-heavy series, the Dream SMP would get a lot of shocking lines.

Unmarked spoilers ahead.

  • From the L'Manburg War for Independence, though the wham is moreso from who says it and not the line itself.
Eret: Down with the revolution, boys. It was never meant to be.
  • Schlatt is called in to endorse Wilbur and Tommy's political party. However, things start to go pear-shaped the moment he says:
"Democracy is overrated. [...] You think you need a president? I'll be my own president!"
  • Schlatt's inauguration speech has... just so many of these.
    • "My first decree... As the President of L'Manburg... The EMPEROR, OF THIS GREAT COUNTRY! IS TO REVOKE THE CITIZENSHIP OF WILBUR SOOT AND TOMMYINNIT!"
    • "Tubbo. As my Secretary of State, as my RIGHT HAND MAN! I need you to do something for me, Tubbo. I need you... to find Tommy. And I need you... to show him the door."
    • "I reckon our nation needs to EXPAND! I reckon we've done our country a great disservice... I reckon... we take down the walls."
  • One wham line comes from Twitter of all places. Again, it's a wham because of who says it.
Technoblade: @tommyinnit @WilburSoot so i heard you guys might need some assistance
  • And soon after:
  • This one line from Wilbur changed the entire direction of the plot, driving a wedge between him and Tommy and causing the audience to wonder if Wilbur is truly the same person he was in the L'Manburg War of Independence.
Wilbur: Then let's be the bad guys. Tommy, what– Why not? Why not? Look, it's– our nation's gone! Our nation's far behind us, Tommy! Let's blow that motherfucker to smithereens.
  • Quackity gives one without even realizing it as he meets with Techno. Notably, it's only Karl's reaction to it that makes him start to panic.
Quackity: Why is my chat saying "blood for the Blood God"?
  • When Wilbur enters the button room after electing Tubbo president, he gives a short speech about blowing up the country... and then the moment everyone has been waiting for happens.
    Philza: What are you doing?!
    • And of course, shortly after that...
      Ph1LzA joined the game
  • Earlier, when Schlatt died, Dream brings up that there was never a traitor. Later, during Tubbo's inauguration, Tommy goes up to Dream and asks him straight up if what he said was true. To which he responds:
Dream: Oh, no, there was– there was a traitor. [...]
Tommy: Well, they just missed their fucking chance now, haven't they?
    Dream: No. They haven't.
  • All of Techno's final speech to L'Manburg counts, but special mention goes to this line.
Techno: Do you want to be a hero, Tommy? Then DIE like one! (immediately moves to summon two Withers)
  • A similar moment happens exclusively for the Philza and Wilbur versions of the events, which occurred at the same time as Techno's final speech. It reveals one more detail about Techno's betrayal.
Wilbur: Phil? Dream said earlier that there was no traitor. And do you know what? He fucking lied! Phil, it's Technoblade! [...] And he has eight Withers ready to go!
  • At the end of L'Manburg's meeting with Dream, Tommy reveals that he has the remains of Dream's first horse, Spirit. At first it seems like L'Manburg has suddenly received leverage over Dream, rendering his desire for Tommy's exile null and void... and then Dream goes chillingly quiet. And then he begins to double the walls around L'Manburg. And when he finally speaks again, this exchange occurs, revealing that whatever leverage Tommy has is moot:
Dream: Tommy... okay, listen, you fucked up this time.
Tommy: What the fu– okay, Dream, don't swear, please.
Dream: No no no no no no no no... I don't give a fuck about Spirit.
  • Ghostbur leads Dream back to Technoblade's home forcing Tommy to hide again and Ghostbur accidentally tells Dream that he's seen Tommy at Technoblade's home after having just said he hadn't seen him, made worse by evidence of Tommy's presence being all over Techno's home. Dream doesn't comment on this until the very end of his visit when he finds Tommy's room and calmly says one last thing to Ghostbur.
Dream: I know Tommy was here, Wilbur.
  • During the Doomsday War, the L'Mantree goes missing. Everyone assumes it was ruined by Techno or destroyed in the Wither/TNT crossfire, until...
    Niki: I burned the tree.
  • During the Final Battle of Season 2, Dream, as a desperate plea to Tommy for his life, drops a bombshell that changes the course of the server forever:
Dream: Tommy, I can bring people back to life!
  • After a supposed nightmare, Ranboo tries to go visit Dream in prison for real and finds out from Sam that he's actually already visited the prison before at some point. The wham line doesn't come from Sam revealing this, but from the exchange they later have about this of when the forgotten visit occurred.
Ranboo: When was this? Was this...? Like– when was this, actually?
Awesamdude: Ranboo, it was kind of a while ago now!
Ranboo: Kind of a while ago?
Awesamdude: Not too long after we locked him up! Ranboo, what is going on?!
  • As Dream and Tommy continue to become more and more hostile, things escalate until...
Tommy: Schlatt? He's fucking dead! I've seen his grave, his grave is real, his corpse is there! Alright?!
Dream: ...Why don't you go see him, then?
  • Foolish's last words to Puffy before he's executed by Antfrost during the Red Banquet are "Puffy, it's okay, it's not your fault."
  • After this, Quackity steps in to stop the Eggpire from killing the attendees, and unveils his secret weapon.
BadBoyHalo: Because guess what, Quackity? If you wanted to stop us, you should have brought more than just yourself. You should have brought an army with you.
Quackity: Guess what Bad, I did! I did. In fact, I brought the next best thing.
    Technoblade joined the game
Quackity: I brought my biggest enemy! Hahaha, I literally brought my biggest enemy, Bad!
  • Fast forward to the fourth "Las Nevadas" stream on November 27th, 2021, and we have two of these bad boys ready to go!
    • Purpled reveals his true motives for joining Las Nevadas in a monologue... which explains half of the VOD title "Quackity Gets Betrayed".
Purpled: I've not yet forgotten Quackity's heinous crimes against my heritage. The UFO explosion is a crime which I will not, and cannot forgive. I've been trying to get closer to everyone in order to appear friendly. However, Slime appears to be Quackity's new puppet. Disappointing. I notice the weekly pattern. This puts a dent in my plan to seize power through friendly diplomacy. I have to change my strategy. I'll have to strategize through Slime and try to squeeze him out of any valuable information. And when the time seems right, I'll do whatever I have to do.
    • After Quackity and Sapnap's reunion and touring each other's countries, comes The Reveal on exactly how bad Karl's time travelling-induced memory deterioration has got, and explains the other half of the VOD title.
      • First, in the middle of touring his house, Karl pulls Sapnap aside and says this about Quackity, setting up the entire rest of the conversation.
Karl: Sapnap... that guy down there's the reason I died.
      • This is eventually followed by Quackity asking if Karl was going to ignore "all the history [they'd] had together", and is then met with this response.
  • During Dream's prison break, Sam manages to hold Ranboo hostage since Ranboo took off his armour. When Techno questions why he got himself captured, he hands Techno a photo and says this.
    • When Sam tells Techno that he won't kill Ranboo if Dream turns himself in, Techno attempts to persuade Dream to save Ranboo's life. In a display of his Lack of Empathy, Dreams blurts this out.
Techno: Dream– Dream, I gotta save Ranboo!
Sam: Come here, Dream, or he dies!
Dream: I DON'T CARE IF HE DIES! TECHNO, WE'RE GOING!
