Last Place Comics is a Black Comedy gag-per-day webcomic created by Zach Cranor. It originally ran from 2004 to 2014 and was revived in 2020.

This comic provides examples of:

• Abusive Parents: Played for Laughs in "Worst Dad Ever": The first has him tattooing his baby's forehead for spilling his bourbon.
• Advice Backfire: "Zach's Dating Tips" usually have good advice at the start, though the way they're executed causes them to backfire. For example:
  • The sixth tip is to be punctual. While this is good advice in general, a man named James does this by chopping down his date's door a la The Shining before belching fire at her (for some reason).
  • The tenth tip is to "share food with your date for an added dash or romance". At first the woman willingly feeds the man food, though he eventually starts to straight up steal food from her.
• After the End: "Jump, Mario!" seems to take place after some sort of apocalypse, as it's set in an empty city with charred buildings and no people save for a kid and his parents.
• A Glitch in the Matrix: Played for Laughs in "The Glitch", which has a man discovering his life is a simulation... oh, and aliens are having sex with him.
• Art Evolution: Earlier comics were in black and white and had shakier-looking lines, and the characters had completely white eyes.
• Ascend to a Higher Plane of Existence: Happens three times in "Ascension", where a man who is presumably some sort of monk ascends into heaven, and then ascends into "True Heaven", before finally reaching a room with another monk in it who acts like a child.
• Ass Shove: "Prostate Exam" involves Zach getting said exam done by a clown.
• Bait-and-Switch: In "Sinister Plan" and it's sequel, Zach chloroforms a janitor... so he can make him get the raise he always wanted.
• Be Careful What You Wish For:
  • A man wishes for infinite wishes! He gets his wish... and Earth gets destroyed by a meteor storm.
  • Monkey's Paw has a merchant warning a customer buying the monkey's paw to "choose [his] wishes carefully". The customer didn't actually want any wishes, and he just wanted to use the paw to jack off.
• Bedsheet Ghost: Exploited in "Untouchable Ghost", where a man puts a bedsheet on a bat in order to defeat a bedsheet ghost.
• Bestiality Is Depraved:
  • In "Animal Testing", a woman confronts a man about him testing his makeup products on animals, which he confirms... except he was actually going to have sex with it, if the room behind him is any indication.
  • A man buys the Monkey's Paw from a shady merchant, who warns him to choose his wishes carefully. The man then reveals he doesn't actually want any wishes, and then asks for an extra large bottle of lube. The merchant is thoroughly disgusted.
• Clickbait Gag: Appears in "Youtube Thumbnail Face" as a condition a woman's husband is diagnosed with.
• Cliffhanger: In-universe in "Caveman Auteur". The storyteller chooses not to give a proper ending to his story so the audience can come up with their own conclusion. Said audience later attacks him and leaves him hanging from a cliff.
• Cuckold: In "Sour then Sweet", a man is murdered by a giant Sour Patch Kid, who then proceeds to fuck his wife. He's understandably pissed about it.
  "Fuck this asshole candy!™"
• Cyberspace: "Internet Man" portrays the internet as looking like this.
• Danger Takes a Backseat: "Back Seat Killer" features a man attempting to be one, though he ends up getting more hurt than the woman driving since she scalds him with coffee, unintentionally throws loose razors on him, and takes a shortcut through a lemon juice factory.
• Dark Parody:
  • "Mario's Party" spoofs Mario Party by turning Mario into a sadist who makes his friends kill each other with violent party games.
  • "Wonka Woes" has Willy Wonka frame Charlie for murder after handing over the business to him.
  • "Happy Animal Pals" 1 and 2 are parodies the of Care Bears; the animal pals in question kill a bully for stealing someone's backpack, and accidentally(?) kill another kid when he looks into their eyes.
• Disproportionate Retribution:
  • "Speaker Phone" has Zach himself putting a woman on a spaceship which explodes because she used speakerphone in public.
  • The kids in "Kidz Zone" throw another kid into a ball pit because he had a single hair on his face.
  • Happy Animal Pals has the titular characters kill a bully for stealing a backpack.
• Don't Try This at Home: In-universe in a strip with the same name; Zach attempts to shoot an apple off his friend's head after seeing it on TV, pointing out that they specifically said for kids to not try it at home. No word on whether Zach succeeded at shooting the apple.
• Dream Within a Dream: "Triangle! Triangle!" contains one of these; a man dreams he's at a concert with a triangle, then wakes up to his wife asking him if he had the dream where everyone likes triangle. He then wakes up again to his real wife asking him if he had the dream where she was supportive of his triangle playing.
• Enfant Terrible: Several instances.
  • The children in "Kidz Zone" seem pretty innocent, but then they throw another kid into a ball pit for having facial hair.
  • "Candy House" has a group of children attacking a witch and devouring her titular candy house after her attempt to capture kids to eat backfires.
  • Exaggerated in "Alpha Baby", where a baby that was born moments ago can ride a motorcycle and threatens a doctor with a switchblade.
• Fate Worse than Death: Artifacting Man, who is artifacted, has been reposted and compressed multiple times. This is treated by the other characters as a sort of disease.
• Gamebooks: Parodied in "Choose Your Own Adventure!": You see a shrub. Your options are "approach the shrub" or "eat a sandwich". The former just has Zach say "wow, a shrub", while the latter causes an explosion (somehow).
• Giant Spider: The giant spider from "Good Spider" is initially said to be beneficial by Red Shirt Guy, who claims that they eat house pests like flies and roaches... until Green Shirt Guy notices that all the house pests are gone.
  Red Shirt Guy: "RUN."
  * Hurricane of Puns: "Happy Halloween From The Crypt Keeper" has the titular character wish the readers a happy Halloween with a bunch of monster- and Halloween-related puns, though it soon takes a sad turn when he reveals he has lung cancer and the doctors told him he has 12 weeks to live.
  "Good evening BOILS and GHOULS! It's your master of SCARE-amonies, the Crypt Keeper! I'm just here to wish you FRIGHTENINGLY good Halloween this year! Hope you get enough candy to DIE for! Also, I have some GRAVE news. The cancer in my lungs has me-GHAST-itized and the doctors say I only have twelve SHREAKS to live! EH HEE HEE! HEE HEE HEE HEEE! Hee hee... Hee..."

• Internet Jerk: The titular character from "Internet Man" seems to be one, seeing as he prioritizes insulting another user over disarming a bomb.
  Internet Man: [typing at an invisible computer]: "NO, YOU'RE THE CUCK!"
• Interrupted Intimacy: "Random Encounter" has a RPG protagonist encounter two monsters having sex. Needless to say, they aren't happy.
• Let Us Never Speak of This Again: One of the kids in "Omni Mascot" says this after they beat the titular mascot to death.
  The Kid: (in front of a burning trash can with the Omni Mascot inside) "We never speak of this again..."
• Lizard Folk: "Lizard Men" involves a conspiracy theorist warning others that lizardmen run the government, though it's later revealed everyone is a lizardman.
• Manchurian Agent: "Sleeper Agent" revolves around one of these.
• Message in a Bottle: "Message In A Bottle" features a man finding one which contains a slash fanfiction of Picard and Nedry.
• Mood Whiplash: "Kidz Zone" starts off happy, with the kids explaining what the Kidz Zone Play Center is about, though it soon takes a turn for the dark after they discover one of the boys has facial hair. After they're done throwing him into a ball pit, it goes right back to being happy.
• Original Character: In-universe in a strip of the same name, where an artist gets mocked for his old OCs from when he was 13.
• Parody Commercial:
  • "Fruity Zoops", which are apparently a currency for a race of donut-shaped people.
  • "Pickle Too Slippery" is an advertisement for something (we never learn what) with a spokesman with the power to stop time speaking.
  Has this ever happened to you? Pickle too slippery? Frozen in time by an all-powerful spokesman? Trapped in a private hell? Unable to scream?
  • And then there's attachable speed lines and wearable shock lines.
• Personal Raincloud: Subverted in "Why so Glum?; the raincloud is actually some sort of creature which is attacked by the woman it was floating above.
• Pre-Mortem One-Liner: Subverted; the detective in "Death Puns" attempts this, but it doesn't work because the shots he fires don't kill him.
  The Snowy Day Bomber: "Kill... me..."
  The Detective: "I'm working on it, OK?!"
• Punny Name: "Will Win" involves a mayoral candidate named... well, Will Win, who insists he'll win because of his name. Until Kant Lose decides to run against him.
• Reference Overdosed: It would take up half this page to list all the shout-outs, but here are a few:
  • "Cat Bus" features the protagonists of My Neighbor Totoro.
  • Multiple strips contain references to the Mario series.
  • The Flavortown comics are a four-strip long reference to Guy Fieri.
  • "This is My Hole..." references Junji Ito.
  • 5 Gum references... well, 5 Gum.
  • "Dr. Huh" is a reference to Doctor Who.
• Retirony: Downplayed in "Happy Retirement, Heart!", since Heart is taken by a doctor on the exact day of his retirement and he's never shown explicitly dying.
• Secret Ingredient: Twice.
  • The secret ingredient of Cranor Burgers is marbles.
  • A strip of the same name has a waiter inform Zach the secret ingredient to their food is love... juice.
• Sequential Boss: "You Wanna Go, Bro?" has two men fighting each other. The man in the blue shirt beats the other guy... only for him to have a second phase.
  Fallen Bro: "I HAVE A SECOND PHASE, BRO!
  Blue Shirt Guy: "FUCK!"
• Sleep Paralysis Creature:
  • "Paralysis Demon" revolves around a woman approaching her paralysis demon while they're on a date with a terrified man.
  • It's sequel follows the same woman with a new paralysis demon and her following him home and becoming the paralysis demon.
  "Show me your texts so I can see if you're cheating on me. Just kidding! Ha ha."
  • There was a sleep paralysis demon plushie up for purchase, though it was limited edition and is no longer available.
• Smoking Is Cool:
  • "Smoking Too Cool" parodies this, since the man smoking doesn't actually know how to smoke properly, but a woman still thinks he looks cool.
  • "Cool Ranch" features a rather bizarre example: a vaping pig.
• Speedrun: Parodied in "Beautiful Baby", where a ghost attempts to beat the world record for "Dying of Old Age, Any%".
• Temporal Paradox: "Hey, look out!" has the nerdy protagonist unwillingly causing one after creating a time machine to stop himself from embarrassing himself in front of a group of girls.
• Testosterone Poisoning: "Zach's Dating Tips 7 has a man named Biff try to be macho by claiming he loves fighting literally anything (including abstract concepts, somehow).
• Toilet Humor:
  • "Poop Ghost" contains a hillbilly who warns a pair of campers of the titular Poop Ghost, who poops in their picnic supplies. It turns out to just be the hillbilly messing with them.
  The Hillbilly: "This is my legacy..."
  • "F Unicorn" involves said unicorn pissing on a pair of children.
• Totally Radical:
  • "Backwards Sitter" is about a man trying to teach kids morals while being cool with them (which doesn't work). It ends with him getting hospitalized after sitting backwards while driving.
  • "Cool Ranch" has a man gloating about the titular ranch, which features skating chickens, vaping pigs, and goats that say "bussin" (sort of). At the end, he gets outdone by the "Cooler Ranch", which has a DJ cow.
• Totem Pole Trench: Occurs in "Suspicious Trenchcoat Guy" and it's sequel.
• Transformation Sequence: Attempted by a Captain Ersatz of Sailor Moon in "Sailor Transformation", who has to stop halfway through because one of her socks is missing.
• Vomit Indiscretion Shot: Downplayed in "Food Murder", since the vomit is just peas.
• Welcome to Corneria: Deconstructed in "These Chicken Feet", which involves a NPC losing his ability to say anything other than "these chicken feet will be great in my stew" after his dialogue is exhausted.
• Witch Classic: The witch in "Candy House" and "Booty House" has the classic witch outfit.
