We win these!

"If you wish to defeat me, train for another 100 years!"
Technoblade to Skeppy

Technoblade (June 1, 1999 – June 2022) was a Minecraft YouTuber known for being a professional at Hypixel Skywars and Bedwars, and PvP in general, while commentating about his life. As a result, most of his fanbase comes from people wanting to watch a Minecraft professional and sticking around to see his pro plays and commentary.

Most of his early fanbase came from his "beating minecraft hardcore mode with a steering wheel" video, which got him millions of views.

Technoblade had previously held the record for the highest win streak in Hypixel Bedwars, with a total of 1400 consecutive wins, and was the first to reach a streak of 1000 wins. He also helped in the current highest streak of 1818, but did not participate in all the games.

He was also known for being the top player for Minecraft Monday, a tournament which involved a lot of known content creators competing in various minigames for the first-place prize: $10,000 split between both of the team members. Because of this discontinued weekly competition, Technoblade earned the PIG+++ rank in Hypixel... Because he won four times.Confusion about the Pig rank As a result, Minecraft Monday is where most of his current fanbase came from.

Late in 2019, Technoblade made a Hypixel Skyblock episode about the journey he had to take to become #1 at harvesting potatoes on the leaderboard. As a result of that video, the former first place, im_a_squid_kid, started getting popular to the point that he got YouTube rank in Skyblock, a rank for popular YouTubers which few people have earned.

On June 22, 2020, Technoblade announced that he had won the potato war with 500 million potatoes, with im_a_squid_kid coming in second place with 412 million. Throughout mid-2020, he would also play both with and against Dream, beginning with the Minecraft Championship and culminating in a best-of-ten PVP duel between the two hosted by MrBeast. Starting in September 2020, he was also a member of the Dream SMP, which had fueled much of his channel growth since.

Technoblade livestreamed various games on his main channel, and also had a second channel that didn't upload as often.

On August 27th, 2021, Technoblade revealed he had been diagnosed with cancer, and on June 30th, 2022, it was announced that he had died from it. To inform fans of his passing, Technoblade's father uploaded one final video to his channel, in which he read a pre-written goodbye from Technoblade before he gave his son a final farewell.

Note: Tropes relating to his persona on SMPEarth can be found on its character page; tropes relating to his character on the Dream SMP can be found on his own character page here.

Technoblade's videos provide examples of:

  • Animal Motifs: He is often associated with pigs, as his main Minecraft skin is a pre-1.16 Pig Man in Requisite Royal Regalia.
  • Badass Boast: Gives one to galvanize his fellow revolutionaries:
When you need someone to fix your sink, you call a plumber. When you need someone to fix your electricity, you call an electrician. And when you need someone to OVERTHROW A BRUTAL TYRANT, YOU CALL AN ANARCHIST!
  • Be Careful What You Wish For: In his first Bedwars win streak video, Techno sees two opponents disconnect and asks if more players can do the same, wanting a repeat of a game where everyone disconnected and automatically gave him the win. Immediately after this, one of Techno's own allies crashes and disconnects (granted, he reconnected before the game ended).
Techno: That is not who I wanted to disconnect!
  • Better to Die than Be Killed: In the second Minecraft Ultimate, Fundy, the Sole Survivor of Techno's team's rampage, logged off before his team could kill him.
  • Bittersweet Ending: In the MrBeast Hide And Seek video, Techno gets found and doesn't win the $10,000 fridge, but he does win a $5,000 fridge.
  • Black Comedy: Pretty much his MO. Techno constantly refers to the people he kills as "orphans" and took great glee in stabbing them.
  • Blatant Lies: He often says it's "all part of his master plan" when he doesn't expect to live (or even have a plan).
  • Blood Knight: "Blood for the blood god" for obvious reasons. Whenever Techno was in a PVP Tournament challenge, he always thrived for kills and win streak.
  • Bribing Your Way to Victory: During the second Minecraft Ultimate event, Techno calls himself "pay-to-win" because so many people donated him lucky blocks, raising a combined total of over $11,000.
  • Brick Joke:
    • In the First Potato War video, he points out that Jerry (a villager in his island) is popping up everywhere in his island. At the end of the video, he says everything is solved, except for one thing...
    • Near the beginning of his Minecraft Ultimate livestream, Technoblade tells everyone that he's going to get full diamond armor and 100 kills. Guess what happens near the end of the event.
  • Cassandra Truth: When a random Skyblock player messages Techno during the war against Dante about what Techno would do after beating Mayor Dante, Techno responds that he will ban half the players and that nobody will believe him. Techno was right, and nobody believed what the guy says. Subverted when Dante is overthrown and when Techno attempts to pull a Full-Circle Revolution, Hypixel and Seraphim force everything to go back to normal.
  • Challenge Run: He did every single Skywars challenge at once, all at the same time. He somehow did it first try, lampshading that every time he comes up with a difficult challenge, his opponents end up throwing the game.
  • Chekhov's Gunman: According to one of his early videos, Technoblade's alt account, Whitelisted, was a one-off character used for a joke before being used in the Great Potato War.
  • Cherry Tapping: He sometimes punches players in Hypixel Skywars/Bedwars off the edge with only his fists or a random item in his inventory instead of using his weapon to kill them.
  • The Chessmaster: Technoblade gained this reputation after his Potato War videos, even referencing Death Note when comparing his plans to his opponent's. After the war was over, he and his rival Squid had a lengthy discussion where he revealed that aside from his plans put into action, he had numerous backup plans which either didn't see use due to waiting for Squid to stoop or was morally wrong and/or constituted torture. His friend Wilbur Soot noted that Techno had even (albeit perhaps jokingly) narrowed down Squid's location to among four possible colleges, just to plan according to the school's scheduling.
  • Color Motif: Pink, due to his mascot being a pig, and red, due to his skin's outfit as well as his reputation as the "Blood God".
  • Consummate Liar:
    • Technoblade uses "an advanced technique called LYING" to throw off his enemies.
    • He explains in the third Potato War video that the total potato count from the second video was much less than what he actually had, since he purposely didn't collect the potatoes from the potato minions.
  • Cool Crown:
  • Crazy-Prepared:
    • After losing tons of time in Minecraft Championship's Build Mart game, Techno went and created an entire spreadsheet with the total blocks necessary for each build written down. His team managed to go from dead last the previous week to first place essentially overnight. It was so effective that when news got out, the event had to be remade with new builds.
    • His Potato War videos also show how prepared he can be. For every move his opponent made, it would not be an exaggeration to say he had both foreseen and prepared counters for, if not outright manipulated them into taking the move in the first place.
  • Cue the Flying Pigs: Before the second Minecraft Ultimate, the event organizer, Pikaclicks, assumed Techno's team would lose, due to the disadvantage of not having a fourth player. Cue Techno becoming a literal flying pig (nicknamed "Technoplane"), able to transport his team and swoop down on any opponents they saw, which led to winning them the game by a wide margin.
Pikaclicks: Unpopular opinion but I don't actually think Nestor, Cal, and Techno are gonna win tomorrow. I've challenged them with an immediate disadvantage of being a team of 3 in a team of 4 event on 1.12... that's gonna be really hard no matter how good they might be
  • Curb-Stomp Battle: The second Minecraft Ultimate. The combined efforts of Techno, Nestorio, and Calvin manage to get nearly half of the kills in the game, get nearly 100 kills more than the previous MCU record (19 kills to 116), and even when the survivors team up to fight the trio (in a 3v21), the final battle isn't even close.
  • Darkest Hour: Parodied in my_darkest_hour.mp4, where he narrowly misses a very difficult shot from an elytra with a bow, and decides that all future content on his channel will be in Club Penguin.
  • The Dreaded: Techno was one of the best PVPers in Minecraft, so it's no surprise that many opponents were terrified to face him in many structured PVP fights.
  • Epic Fail:
    • The whole of "skeppy tries to troll me but i troll him first". In the first part of the video, Technoblade gets trolled by Skeppy's cursed Minecraft world, with much of it simply being Techno screaming in terror. Next, in Skeppy's custom map, Technoblade trolls Skeppy in his own mapnote , including jumping on the decorations of the wall to completely skip the level, using an Ender Pearl to go outside the map and find a village, and purposefully dying after Skeppy teleports him back so that he can go to the checkpoint at the end.
    • Minecraft Monday when it got hacked, causing him to play with his friends on Hypixel instead.
  • Everyone Has Standards: Techno and Ginger spent much of their Bedwars session ragging on Hanna for her supposed lack of skill, but Techno drew the line at Ginger making a Stay in the Kitchen joke.
  • Enemy Mine: He calls upon im_a_squid_kid as backup during the war against Mayor Dante, with him helping Techno during his adventures in the dungeons.
  • Exact Words: He says the Pigman Sword from Hypixel Skyblock was the deadliest because it killed over 1 million pigs. The other strongest weapons only required one thing to die or paying a load of money, in comparison.
  • Flaw Exploitation: This is most notably seen in his Potato War videos.
    • In the first Potato War video, he discovers that im_a_squid_kid (the then number 1 potato farmer) had placed his minions too close together. Taking advantage of this, Techno uses his alt account and quickly destroys Squid's lead by loading the minions.note
    • During the second Potato War video, Technoblade realizes, after some investigative journalism, that im_a_squid_kid (his opponent), was having exams in college. He then uses this information to his advantage by working as fast as possible and hiring "goons" to help with collecting all the items needed, all while his opponent was busy with exams.
    • In the third Potato War video, Techno manages to also find the order in which rabbit pets boosted potato farming, employing yet another alt account to sabotage Squid when Squid went AFK with his rabbit pet.
  • Flawless Victory: He once got a perfect game in Hypixel Bedwars.note
  • Foregone Conclusion:
    • Skeppy says at the beginning of "skeppy tries to troll me but i troll him first", "You're not allowed to record this and complain about me!" Cue the inter-title that says exactly that.
    • The second Minecraft Ultimate quickly becomes this after acquiring nearly full diamond armour for Techno and full iron armour for Calvin and xNestorio before PVP was even enabled. The only genuine "blip" being when Calvin was slain by the couple-combination of PeteZahHutt and Pwincessly (Brandon and Kara), however he was able to come back to life and proceeded to finish obliterating the game with his teammates.
  • Full-Circle Revolution: Techno makes it clear to the audience that once Mayor Dante is defeated, he would take over Hypixel Skyblock and ban half the playerbase. Forcefully subverted by the admins, who returned everything back to normal and undid all of Dante's damage. Apart from erecting a shrine to the Blood God, Techno obliged and things returned back to normal.
  • Full-Boar Action: He is a Pig Man who was renowned for his PVP skills in the Minecraft community.
  • Genius Bruiser: While he is famous for being one of the best PVPers in the Minecraft community, he also has the brains to back this up, using many strategies to achieve success.
  • The GM Is a Cheating Bastard:
    • Hypixel PVP games have rules in place that are supposed to prevent and punish cheating, such as with cross-teaming, where two or more teams actively work together toward a common goal. Techno would often be the target of cross-teaming, and such instances were never punished. The most infamous of these was in the second Minecraft Ultimate, where Techno Calvin and Nestorio faced off against 21 opponents all gunning for them.note
    • Minecraft Monday was rather infamous for bias against Technoblade. After he won in the first week, he and the 4 other top-placing teams were split up on account that they were teams with extensive experience and knowledge of the game. Minigames were added into Week 3 after more complaints over the exclusive PVP format of the event up to that point, and Techno was specifically paired with people who had little no to experience with Minecraft. By Week 6, the Build Battle minigame was added because Technoblade himself said that building was not something he was particularly good at. In Week 13, though, MrBeast placed a $15000 bounty on Technoblade, meaning that whichever team managed to kill him ended up getting more money than they would have from actually winning the event.note
  • Gratuitous Spanish: During two Bedwars games, he notably asks where the library was in Spanish while killing TommyInnit.
Techno: ¿Ay caramba, dónde está la biblioteca?
  • Hilariously Abusive Childhood: When Techno is given a prompt on Patently Stupid to somehow teach a baby to understand theoretical physics, his solution is threatening the baby with a gun, because according to him, "Fear is the greatest motivator."
  • Ninja Looting: In "hypixel skyblock: the magma boss", Technoblade got the only Ember Rod dropped by the boss by using Ender Pearls to teleport to it.
  • Not So Stoic: In some of his videos, he drops his snarky, baritone attitude when he is genuinely scared or panicked, like in "minecraft but 100 people are trying to kill us (ft. Skeppy)" (at 16:37) where he is genuinely frightened about 4 people teaming to hunt down him and Skeppy, one of the being in full Diamond armour, and they saw the duo, he outright screamed at Skeppy to run and get away from them.
  • Not Quite Flight:
    • Technoblade uses the Elytra to his advantage in the second Minecraft Ultimate. To clarify: that was the main strategy his team used to kill more than a hundred people: swoop in with the Elytra, switch to the Diamond Chestplate, and Total Party Kill with the Diamond Sword.
    • After finding that the Skyblock admins had patched speed so that players could only reach +40% speed, Techno decides to create flight by employing a grappling hook and double jump. He was able to stay in the air for a long time, but would take massive fall damage when landing, and his flight wasn't permanent.
  • Off the Rails: Technoblade derails Skeppy's video by going out of the map and finding a village.
  • Organ Theft: Discussed for Laughs in Techno's only TikTok video (also reuploaded onto YouTube), where he assumes that someone allegedly impersonating him on the site is trying to trick his viewer-base and steal their organs, which he claims "just isn't right".
Techno: I think we can all agree that people deserve to get their organs stolen by the real Technoblade.
  • Please Subscribe to Our Channel: To the point of being a Running Gag and a meme. Techno often promotes his channel at the most inopportune moments, and he even has a "Sellout Timer" set to go off every thirty minutes so he can remember to promote.
  • The Power of Friendship: Discussed at the end of MCC 11, where Techno reveals to his teammates that HBomb94 (a fellow competitor) once told him that the best way to win Dodgebolt and thus MCC wasn't to funnel all the arrows to the best player on the team, but rather to share the arrows with everyone regardless of skill. Techno then outright mocks the concept. Given that the Fuchsia Frankensteins (Dream, George, Sapnap, and Karl) won Dodgebolt in a complete 3-0 sweep by doing the aforementioned "funnel to the best" strategy (with Dream getting nearly all the arrows unless he was already out), not to mention that the losing team (which included HBomb) did the "sharing is caring" strategy, his comments aren't exactly unjustifiednote .
  • Pyrrhic Victory:
    • According to Techno, his first Potato War video didn't do nearly well enough to justify all the time he had spent (at least, it didn't at first — the video is now one of his most viewed videos ever). Plus, it caused potato books to sharply decrease in price, and as he puts it in his next video, "My plan to get rich had failed both in-game and in real life."
    • The Potato War 3 video ended with Techno acknowledging that Rank 1 wasn't an achievement, but a prison, necessitating the player to sacrifice their life to defend a temporary position.
  • The Reveal:
  • Rivals Team Up:
    • Lampshaded by Technoblade when the Minecraft Championship placed him and Dream on the same team for MCC8.
    • Techno also briefly teams up with Squid to take down Mayor Dante in Skyblock.
  • Rule of Funny: In the second Minecraft Ultimate, Technoblade had almost all the pieces of the diamond armor, while his teammates had full iron armor. His teammates decided on Techno getting full diamond armor because it would be funny.Timestamp
Techno: Honestly, we should probably make a diamond chestplate for one of you instead of diamond pants for me, it's kind of a waste.
Calvin: But it would be funny.
Techno: It would be, that's a good argument.
  • Running Gag: His catchphrase of "It was all part of my master plan" when A) it was not part of any plan and B) he had no plan to begin with.
  • Screw This, I'm Outta Here: In his "beating minecraft hardcore mode with a steering wheel" video, Techno casually snarks that he would be spawning above a pit of lava just before entering the Nether for the first time. The moment he goes through the portal, he spawns above a lava lake and hears the shrieking of a ghast. After seeing he accidentally predicted the future, he immediately goes back through the portal with a Rapid-Fire "No!" while breaking the portal.
Techno: Are you kidding me?! What is this?! What is this garbage– send me back. Send me back. What?! What?! What?! What?! Wha– what– (sees he spawned above a lava lake with nowhere to go) I'm goin' back. I'm goin' back. Screw you guys, I ain't doin' this! Bye! Bye!
  • Serious Business: In the video where he got Pig rank, Technoblade states that video games are "serious business, and deserve to be treated with respect."
  • Shame If Something Happened: During the Potato War, Techno discovers that Squid would sleep with his headphones in so his Discord mods could ping him when his account disconnected during the night. Techno hovers his mouse over the "Call"-button, musing about how Squid went to sleep about 90 minutes ago, should now be entering REM-sleep, and how it would be a shame if someone woke him up... before clarifying he didn't actually do that, mostly because he wasn't sure if intentional sleep deprivation could be legally considered torture.
  • Sitcom Arch-Nemesis:
    • In the Minecraft Championship, Technoblade and Dream fall into this trope. It even led to some tense moments between Dream's and Techno's fans in July's MCC, where Dream felt cheated out of a game that had won the Twitter poll (that he had lobbied to play), and Techno's game was chosen instead, which cost Dream's team the win. Dream and Techno fans jumped between streams, exchanging grievances. After the championship finished, Dream and Techno had a call where they stated they have nothing but respect for each other and consider each other friends and equals.
    • Another example of this is Squid Kid and Techno's Potato War. Techno said at the end of the second and third video that he and Squid were on good terms and this 'war' wasn't anything malicious. Further exemplified in the Skyblock war against Dante, where he helps Technoblade overthrow Mayor Dante.
  • Stalker without a Crush: Techno candidly jokes about having to stalk Squid Kid in order to best him during the Potato Wars. It started off fairly reasonable (scoping out his forum posts and island, keeping tabs on his potato growth), but by the end of it, Techno knew what college Squid went to, what his class and sleep schedules were, infiltrated his Discord, and — if his comments during the "I became Mayor of Skyblock" video are to be believed — found his parents' phone numbers.
Technoblade: I'll DM him on Discord, and if that doesn't work, I'll phone his parents. I'll be like, "Hey, can you get Squid Kid on the line?" (as his team-mates crack up) It's leftover data from the Potato War doc. No need to– I just have a few things in reserve.
  • The Stinger: At the end of his videos, he told the viewers to subscribe and click on the other videos, but if they stick around long enough, he usually said something else to them.
  • Super-Speed: In "the fastest man in skyblock", Technoblade achieves speeds so fast that he can circle around the lobby and his fans… which leads to him crashing into a wall.
  • Surpassed the Teacher: FireBreathMan didn't want to coach Technoblade for the second Minecraft Ultimate Tournament because he, according to Techno, "fears that the apprentice will surpass the master if he gives me any advice". Near the end of the event, Technoblade kills FireBreathMan, even saying "So long, Sensei" as he does so.
  • Suspiciously Specific Denial: In "doing every skywars challenge at the same time", he says this:
Technoblade: (in chat) im not doing challenges be afraid
  • Technician Versus Performer: Between Dream and Technoblade, where Dream is the performer and Techno was the technician. Dream's iconic series, Minecraft Manhunt, has both the hunter and the hunted showcasing creative traps and methods of outmaneuvering and killing the opposition in randomly generated worlds. Dream himself is known for his quick thinking and creativity, coupled with incredible luck. Technoblade was much more methodical, known for dominating structured PVP matches. He also performed complex calculations to determine the best method of victory in tournament challenges, including his Excel spreadsheet for tracking potatoes during his Potato War and his startling come from behind victory in Build Mart, also using a spreadsheet.
However, after the end of Minecraft Championship 7 with Techno's Build Mart strategy, he spoke with Dream in a Discord call talking about how he prepared for the event. As Techno spoke about the 26 possible builds, Dream quickly corrected him by stating there were actually 27, and Techno immediately realized they used the exact same strategy.
  • Worf Had the Flu: Technoblade faced very strong opposition from Dream during the latter's debut in Minecraft Championship 6, with Dream consistently able to outplay Techno throughout the event. Techno himself was unable to properly train for the event because he was busy with the Potato War at the time.

A Bell in Prison

After accidentally summoning DreamXD, a god, while in prison, Technoblade and Dream are granted one wish. However, instead of wishing to escape from the prison, as Dream lampshades, Techno asks for a bell.

How well does it match the trope?
