Belkinus Necro Hunt is a weekly Actual Play role-playing series using the Dungeons & Dragons system using the website Roll20. It is hosted and DM'd by JoCat on his Twitch (with later uploads to his Youtube account). The series debuted June 23, 2021, and the final episode aired on February 16, 2022, totaling 22 sessions.

The setting is one of the kingdoms of the Lustrous Expanse in the year 215, the kingdom of Belkinus. It is a land that has been ravaged by war eighty years ago but was able to recover. During the recovery, all forms of necrotic magic had been banned from the kingdom. However, there are those who still practice necromancy and even performed terrorism with them within the kingdom; more specifically, by the terrible machinations of the horrifying Spine of Death cult. It stars a group of notable warriors that have been contracted to combat the Spine of Death's advance, as well as capture its leader, all within 14 days.

The main cast consists of:

Tropes:

  • Abusive Parents: Enoch's father, Alter/Thyrmelius Cog, is a twisted and extreme fundamentalist who killed his wife for protecting necromancers and cut off his son's arm of just for lying as a child.
  • Alas, Poor Villain: Magnus' death is rather pitiful. Magnus is an extremist who hated necromancers for killing the lives of his family and friends, so he wanted to take control of the Warforges to attack the necromantic city of Cloveway. Before his death, Luna was desperately trying to convince Magnus that there was another way to honor the death of his love ones. However, before we could see if Luna's last attempt was successful or not, Magnus' body gets hijacked by Alter (an even worse necromancer-hating extremist). Alter proceed to use Magnus' body to help take control of the Warforges, forcing the party to destroy Magnus body (killing him in the process) in order to kill Alter.
  • The Alcoholic: After their first 48 hours of adventuring, when the party reaches Luna's hometown the first thing Enoch does is order a double of the strongest drink available at the tavern. When the first shot turns out to be a Gargle Blaster, he's elated, and still consumes the second.
  • All for Nothing: Kara had spent so much of her life and sacrifice so many necromancers for power in order to gain the ability to cast True Resurrection. Unfortunately for her, she still couldn't succeed and ultimately came to accept that casting True Resurrection is impossible.
  • Amicable Exes: Renee has an ex-girlfriend named Ninette. While the reason the two of them not being together anymore is unknown, the two have shown to still be in good terms.
  • Animal Stampede: On their way to Chester City, the party run into a massive stampede of large insects. Fortunately, the party was able to get through it relatively unscathed.
  • Ancestral Weapon: Absolution, the fancier of Luna's two swords, was previously wielded by her legendary father.
  • An Arm and a Leg:
    • One of Enoch's arms has been replaced by a metallic one. When he details his full past to the others, it's revealed to be the result of an overly-harsh punishment for dishonesty as a child, leading to his current hard stance against liars.
    • It would later happen to two different people during a boss fight in Session 12: A massive Warforge got its arm ripped off by Alter and Alter himself gets both of his wings and one of his arms chopped off by Luna.
  • Archnemesis Dad:
    • Session 6 ends with Renee's father Luc Badeaux showing up, claiming to need their help in dealing with the Black Spine...while dressed in their robes. The start of Session 7 has him claim to be an Internal Reformist, considering the cult a save haven for ostracized spellcasters (including himself) but convinced that the Black-Veined Queen and her loyalists are taking things too far...though his own morals are questioned when he admits he tried to raise Luna's father's corpse as an agent against them.
    • Session 12 reveals that "Alter Enoch", the being that was living within Enoch, is truly Thyrmelius Cog, an archangel of Erathis that Nathaniel deduces is Enoch's father.
    • Averted in Session 13, when Sina's been ordered to prevent anyone from heading to the city where the Black Spine's supposedly headquartered, but wants to let her daughter Luna and her comrades pass, having a sparring match just for show.
  • Ascended Extra:
    • Cyril and Julius, the two goons that Nathaniel and Renee recruited early on show up again in Session 8, having succeeded at their "initiation" and are now employed by their syndication, with portrait art when they had none before.
    • An Earth Genasi that Renee gave a knife to also appears with her own portrait art, but as a bandit robbing deliveries to a potion shop that Renee has to deal with.
    • Session 12 features numerous faces from the past making a reappearance, some with new portrait art, as the Tiefling from Session 1 and Rottak the bard have joined the Protectors to, respectively, avenge their dead friend and help pay for a sick sister. The latter even joins the syndication like Cyril and Julius after Renee recruits her.
    • Session 13 has the return of Grikyak, who the party purchase supplies from, as well as some horses to expedite the next part of their journey. Session 14, similarly, features the return of No-Tail, another travelling merchant the party had encountered before.
  • Asshole Victim: Bloodstride not only just slain by the party, but he also got turned into a undead monster by Chandrelle before being syphoned by her.
  • Atomic F-Bomb: Renee drops one in session 14 when she encounters Francis.
What the ever-loving fuck are you doing?!
  • Back from the Dead: It was revealed that Abbigail seems to have been brought back to life as an undead/failed resurrection subject.
  • Battle Couple: Luna's partner Scorpio, when the party encounters him in the mountains, is a mercenary that's just as capable of fighting against a pack of worgs as the rest of the party. Luna officially proposes to him with a ring in Session 13.
  • Bavarian Fire Drill: When the party encounters their first group of necromancers in an old sewer system, Nathaniel tries to sway things in the party's favor by pulling out the necromancy book he claimed earlier and claim that he's a higher-ranked necromancer there to take command. It helps that he knows Enthralling Performance.
  • The Bet: After meeting Lancel, Renee and Nathaniel make a bet that, if Renee can't figure out Lancel's connection to Nathaniel on her own by the end of the campaign, Renee would lose her job. Renee ends up failing when the Black-Veined Queen brings it up during her blackmail attempt, but in a case of Exact Words, the campaign ends with Nathaniel deciding to leave the Witchtakers and promoting Renee to his position.
  • Big "NO!": The major fight that takes up most of Session 12 concludes with Thyrmelius Cog shouting this as Enoch impales his head with a rapier.
  • Blackmail: In the Grand Finale, in an attempt to convince the party to submit, the Black-Veined Queen threatens to have her minions spread their dark secrets (such as how multiple Witchtaker recruits are former Spine of Death members) and turn Belkinus against them if they resist. The party rationalizes that the risk won't be as high compared to them revealing her own secret, the fact that she's Chandrelle Miharian.
  • Bookends: The very first session of the campaign started in Belkinus Proper, with the party receiving their mission from Chandrelle to capture her sister Kara, who is suspected as the 'Black-Veined Queen'. The campaign's final session took place in Belkinus Proper, with the party confronting and slaying Chandrelle, the true 'Black-Veined Queen'.
  • Boom, Headshot!: Enoch executed a captured necromancer this way in Session 1.
  • Broken Tears: Two examples occur in Session 12, one from Enoch after killing Thyrmelius, and one from a tiefling (the same one from Session 1) finally learning their friend's fate and Renee giving him back Sawpuller the ogre's armband as a Tragic Keepsake.
  • Bullying a Dragon: Luc Badeaux argues that Bloodstride and the Spine of Death are exploiting this - since all of Belkinus and the surrounding areas hate and fear necromancers, every day more of them flock to only place where they can be accepted. A place that is a terrorist cult antagonistic towards Belkinus. Nathaniel agrees with this reasoning, saying if Necromancy won't get at least partial acceptance, things will inevitably escalate into open war.
  • Butt-Monkey: Poor Enoch. He'd be a No-Respect Guy if the rest of his party wasn't as competent as he was. It's like the adventure exists to break down all his beliefs and put him through the ringer, and his party members barely seem to tolerate him half the time. Despite this, he takes all the crap his party and the world around him puts him through in stride, and is just as likely to bemoan how much the world sucks with them as he is to just laugh it off.
  • Cain and Abel: Kara Miharian, the Black-Veined Queen of the cult of necromancers that has caused devastation in Belkinus, is the sister of Viscount Chandrelle Miharian, the military official that contracts the party to deal with it. By the Grand Finale, the roles are flipped, as it turns out that Kara is benevolent and Chandrelle has sinister ulterior motives.
  • I Call It "Vera": Enoch has named his firearms "Objection" and "The Gavel", while Luna's two swords are "Absolution" and "Retribution".
  • Calming Tea: Craighton discovered his love for tea from when some nobles asked him to make them some tea to calm them down for a speech.
  • Came Back Wrong:
    • Thorne turns out to be an undead, soulless Abbigail Miharian.
    • In the Grand Finale, Chandrelle summons Bloodstride's corpse to her side to protect her from the party, hybridizing his skeleton with a flying beast's, and with black fluid dripping out of his exposed ribcage.
  • Cassandra Truth: Turns out Nathaniel was right on his first initial suspicions that Thorne was Abbigail. The only reason that "Thorne" didn't react to being called Abbigail by Nathaniel is because the former seemed to be an undead.
  • Catchphrase: Nathaniel often says "My face betrays no emotion" to a situation or revelation because Nathaniel usually maintains a stoic poker face.
  • The Cavalry:
    • At the climax of Session 18, the party is ambushed by a legion of Thornes outside Ruggawood, which tracked Kara's presence, and get between them and Luc Badeaux, who wishes to start atoning for his past by using his Spine of Death connection to help them reach the cult's base of operations. Just as one of the Thornes is about to strike down Luc, the party's friends from Ruggawood join the fight; Juliana saves Luc by shooting Thorne with a wheelchair-mounted crossbow, Ketrig presses a button to reveal various turrets he set up to defend the town, and Lancel charges into battle and manages to hold his own (a moment which had art prepared in advance).
    • In the Grand Finale, Renee ordered the fleeing soldiers to call out for help from anyone who can provide aid and prove themselves to Belkinus. And in the final fight's conclusion, as the Black-Veined Queen is reduced to dust but collateral damage almost dooms the party, Ninette and Stinko arrive just in time to prevent the ceiling from collapsing on top of them.
  • Cavalry of the Dead: According to the earliest-dated pages of Kara's journal that the party reads in Session 15, she had actually started work on necromancy during the war, to create one of these and spare mortal lives. However, fear from her superiors led to this plan being refused, which in turn led to Abigail dying in the war and Kara refocusing her work into resurrecting her sister.
  • Central Theme: A overarching theme in the whole campaign is the worth and purpose of a person and their talents.
    • A major reason why many people still flock to necromancy in Belkinus despite the laws against it is because those people feel like they are able to find success or fulfillment as necromancy could help them or other people as well as necromancy being something they are good at. A good example of this is Mirth, who returned to necromancy despite Enoch's attempts to convince him of otherwise.
    • This theme also surfaces with many other others who aren't necromancers. For example, Craighton has shown great potential in magic. However, he grew sick and tired of the magic work and found more enjoyment pursuing tea-making instead.
    • This theme even appears with the party. For Luna, despite being an excellent fighter, starts reconsidering her future as a mercenary when she saw Scorpio wanting to leave the mercenary work. For Enoch, seeing Mirth remain as a necromancer because of how he found fulfillment in it was the catalyst that led Enoch to finally start second-guessing his hatred for necromancers. And for Nathaniel, part of his conflict with people like Kara and even Nathaniel's father stem from how Nathaniel found important use in his Charm magic despite how other people seeing how dangerous it can be.
  • Character Title: Session 21's YouTube title is "Bloodstride", named after a main character in the campmain.
  • Chekhov's Gun:
    • A hilarious example. Remember the Rock with Googgly Eyes that Luna got back at Session 1? She gave it as a gift to Scorpio to take care as a pet (since Scorpio didn't have much luck with a goldfish).
    • Another hilarious example. Remember that Stick of Stickiness that Nathaniel bought back at Session 1? Turns out that it was a dangerous reality-destroying object that's worth at least seven hundred gold.
    • An un-hilarious example is (ironically) Nathaniel's "joke", telling a story about a man that gets away with murder and then, feeling invincible, decides to kill the judge that declared his innocence. In the Grand Finale, he finally tells the "punchline": it's based on something he actually witnessed as a child, and his frustration at his father not letting him use magic to get the murderer to confess led to him enchanting his own father and making him confess to necromancy.
  • Chekhov's Gunman:
    • Among the various characters the party meets in Belkinus Proper at the start of the first session, there's a tiefling with gripes against adventurers who claims to have an ogre friend that could deal with the problem himself if he was around. The first session ends with a fight against necromancers that had already killed said ogre and were preparing to raise his corpse as their minion. The same Tiefling makes another appearance in Session 12, trying to avenge his ogre friend but unfortunately being manipulated into working for the killers.
    • Members of the Protectors, a gang of bandits, first appear causing a ruckus in Sessions 4 and 5 before becoming a major antagonistic force in Chester City and the Factory.
    • The orc necromancer that the party killed all the way back in Session 1 turned out to be Hedrick, a friend to a pair of young necromancers named Blukwit and Dorti.
  • Companion Cube: The first thing the party does after getting their mission is to help a Goblin merchant named Grikyak whose wares were wrecked, causing him to drop a rock with googly-eyes in his excitement. Luna "adopts" it and names it Boulder, later gifting it to Scorpio.
  • Cruel Mercy: Nathaniel doesn't kill the criminals he catches, lest their corpses be raised by his enemies...but he does rattle their brains with point-blank magic to knock them out.
  • Dance-Off: In Session 8, Renee visits a bar and tries to sing along with another bard by the name of Rottak, who interprets it as competition and challenges her to a dancing match. However, Renee's charming nature turns it into a duet, and it ends with Rottak flirting with Renee before going back to her performing job.
  • Dark and Troubled Past:
    • Enoch was orphaned at a young age and was raised by Samuel in Belkinus Proper. When he was a child, he lied to Samuel and then got in trouble with some dangerous people. Both Enoch and Samuel neverly lost their lives, however Alter saved them. But Alter punished Enoch by severing off Enoch's arm.
    • When she was a child, Renee had to witness her father Luc trying to bring back the latter's previous wife from the dead. The resurrection failed, creating a terrifying undead known as a Body Horror. This scene traumatized Renee. This would led to Luc having to abandon his current family because necromancy was illegal, and this even strained Luc's relationship with Renee since Renee believed the her father was in love with his previous wife more than his current wife.
    • Nathaniel was a young orphan in the streets until he had been adopted by a high ranking official. His adoptive father raised him and inspired him to pursue law and justice. However, there was a case where a murderer that had been declared innocent decided to kill the judge of his case just because he felt invincible for escaping his crime. Nathaniel wanted to use his charm magic to make the murderer confess, but his father denied him that. Frustrated, Nathaniel got rid of his father by using charm magic to make his father falsely admit to necromancy. Since then, Nathaniel got a good reputation for exposing a "necromancy" and eventually became the Witch Taker.
    • Julius, the former necromancer that Nathaniel recruits alongside Cyril, was also a former member of the Protectors, a band of extortionists. When Nathaniel asks him for information pertaining to his past to aid in the current investigations, he's hesitant to discuss that part of his past.
    • Kara and Chandrelle used to be closed to each other and to their other sister Abbigail. However, during the war, the two sisters lost their sister Abbigail due to the enemy kingdom using necromancy for their forces. This would led the two remaining sisters to drift apart as Kara pursued True Resurrection to resurrect Abbigail and Chandrelle rose through the ranks in Belkinus' politics. Eventually, Kara gave up on True Resurrection after deeming it impossible (retreating to a quiet life in Cloveway) while Chandrelle end up pursuing True Resurrection herself.
  • Dark Is Not Evil: Despite the terrorism caused by the Spine of Death cult, the party ends up repeatedly encountering unaffiliated Necromancers that are genuinely kind people despite their powers, such as the Tortle protecting a child and their undead pet in Session 13 or the entirety of Cloveway in Session 14.
  • Deal with the Devil:
    • While recounting her father's past to the rest of the party, Luna tells of how his sword, Absolution, was granted to him during a battle after making a deal with a mysterious woman, and caused all of the undead he was fighting to drop immediately. The party immediately checks if they're capable of telling whether the sword's nature is divine...or the opposite. A later account from Sina Steelward in Session 8 reveals the woman was The Raven Queen, with further information later on revealing Luna's the Raven Queen's aasimar as a result.
    • Enoch's explanation to the firbolg mayor of why he's a Drunken Master is that his Celestial heritage takes control, with the firbolg unimpressed that it's not his own intellect and calling it "a devil of a different color". Given what it turns into in Session 12, she was incredibly accurate.
  • Decoy Leader: Session 15 starts with another whammy: Kara Miharian, who the party has talked down instead of fought to the death, isn't the Black-Veined Queen, despite intelligence reports saying she is. In fact, she claims to not be directly connected to the Spine of Death cult at all, though the cult may say otherwise because of the influence the Miharian name carries.
  • Desecrating the Dead: Luna's motivation for fighting the Spine of Death is learning that the tomb of her father, a renowned war hero, may have been raided by necromancers so they could use his corpse as their servant. It was later revealed that Luc raised the corpse of Luna's dad in order to protect himself against Thorne, though some details are still questionable at best.
  • Disproportionate Retribution: In his backstory, Enoch was on the receiving end of this, when he ended up losing one of his arms as a result of lying as a child.
  • The Dragon: Bloodstride, the Spine of Death Necromancer that reports directly to the Black-Veined Queen, is more responsible for most of the problems the group encounters than the Queen herself.
  • The Dreaded: Thorne, a renegade hunter of Necromancers, who escaped from prison. The crew is specifically told to avoid Thorne 'at all costs'. It's even able to break out of one of the Mute Crystals that Chandrelle gave the party to deal with Kara, and Kara later states that it should have held any living thing indefinitely. This leads the party to suspect Thorne to be an undead/failed resurrection subject who somehow retained their humanoid form. With Thorne's identity revealed, it seems that Thorne may truly be an undead, since everyone knew that Thorne (or rather Abby) should be dead.
  • Drunken Master: While absolutely plastered by a Gargle Blaster, Enoch requests some paper from Nathaniel...and ends up drafting perfect schematics for a new invention, while implying he's not nearly this clever without alcohol, and telling Nathaniel that nobody will believe him if he tells the others about this. It's elaborated on/subverted in the next session, as he explains that being drunk allows his Celestial side to take control. This is later played with when it was revealed that those schematics 'did' in fact belonged to Enoch, as well as to his mother. Alter had just been stealing them.
  • Dual Wielding: Luna's feats allow her to wield two blades in combat.
  • Dude, Where's My Respect?: In the setting, adventurers are commonly treated as little more than glory-seeking sellswords. In the first session alone, the party is accosted by a tiefling within Belkinus Proper, pelted by rocks in a refugee camp that's formed outside the city's walls, and get yelled at by a woman with a missing husband just because they didn't happen to see said husband while in the city and can't stop to search due to their Timed Mission.
  • Enemy Within: "Alter-Enoch", Enoch's Split Personality, does not have Enoch's best interests at heart, and intentionally sabotages him if he tries to avoid being The Fundamentalist at all times. Session 12 reveals that it was actually a completely separate entity all along: an archangel named Thyrmelius Cog.
  • Exact Words:
    • When the party found out that Mirth is a necromancer, Enoch spared him in exchange for him abandoning necromancy. However, since Enoch refuses to lie, he told the half-truth of the necromancy 'being properly judged and punished' to Juliana. But when Mirth left everyone behind because he couldn't abandon necromancy, Enoch is forced to tell Juliana the whole truth.
    • During an interrogation on some Protectors, Renee was told by one of them that killing him would only deprive her of any information. Renee replied that she wouldn't kill him. Immediately after that, she knocked that Protector out with the Heat Metal spell.
    • Nathaniel and Renee made a bet where Renee needed to figure out Lancel's identity. If she fails, she would lose her job. When Renee does fail by the end of the campaign, Nathaniel ended up making her the new leader of the Witch Takers in order to take the organization into a better direction.
  • Fighting Spirit: Luna's class, Echo Knight, allows her to summon an apparition resembling her deceased heroic father to assist her in combat, which she nicknames "Echo Dad" and thinks might actually be her father's ghost. At the end of Session 15, with the revelations about her father's spirit peacefully residing in the afterlife, it instead takes on a form more akin to Luna herself.
  • First-Episode Twist: The party intentionally kept information about their classes vague from even each other, so during the first session, the players have some noteworthy reactions to events like Enoch summoning wings or the very serious Nathaniel casting cantrips from the Bardic College of Glamor.
  • Foil
    • Bloodstride serves as this to Nathaniel. Both Bloodstride and Nathaniel are cold and calculative characters who know how to lie or manipulate people. The both of them can use manipulation-themed magic (necromancy and charm magic respectively) that have been frown upon by other people due to how dangerous they can be. However, while Bloodstride is a selfish and cruel person who sees everyone as just pawns and tools, Nathaniel actually have people who he held dear and can act for the benefit of other people or society itself.
    • Alter serves as this to Enoch. Both Alter and Enoch act as The Fundamentalist, willing to take matters on their own hands to administrate their own sense of justice. They have a hatred for necromancy because it is against the law in Belkinus. However, what separates the two from each other is that Enoch actually grew to see that not all necromancers are bad and grew more understanding or accepting towards someone like Nathaniel. On the other hand, Alter was stuck in his ways that led him to become worse.
    • Kara and her sister Chandrelle serve as this too. Both of the sisters lost their third sister Abbigail, and in their grief, turned to siphoning in order to obtain True Resurrection. They sacrificed several necromancers, and they became quite jaded by the time of the campaign. However, Kara gave up on True Resurrection after deeming it impossible due to several failed attempts. This led Kara to leave Belkinus for a quieter life in Cloveway, protecting its denizens while repenting her murders by serving as a priestess to the Raven Queen. In contrast, Chandrelle only grew worse in her pursuit for True Resurrection. She created the Spine of Death to monitor necromancers and use them for siphoning, all the while manipulating Belkinus into hunting down necromancers. Furthermore, Kara took up necromancy long before Abbigail's death because Kara saw interest and value for necromancy, while Chandrelle only took up necromancy after Abbigail died despite despising it even to this day.
  • The Fundamentalist:
    • Enoch is very devout to Erathis, goddess of law and innovation. He also has a close friendship with Samuel Braxton, Belkinus Proper's cleric of Erathis.
    • Alter serves as this too, but as a far more extreme example. He served Enoch's arm off for lying, even though this was when Enoch was still a child. And then, Alter tried to use the Warforges from Chester City in order to massacre the necromancers of Cloveway, despite learning Bloodstride actually wants this to happen and knowing that this would spark a war in Belkinus.
  • Gargle Blaster: Upon reaching Luna's hometown to check out her father's tomb, Enoch goes to the tavern, orders the strongest drink they have from Eris the dragonborn barmaid, and intentionally fails the Constitution check. He ends up literally belching smoke and taking enough internal fire damage to fall off his barstool...and he still orders another.
  • Gender-Equal Ensemble: The party consists of two males (Nathaniel and Enoch) and two females (Luna and Renee).
  • The Ghost: Renee's mother is the only known living family member of the party who didn't make a physical appearance in the campaign. She is only mentioned by Renee, her brother, and her former father.
  • God Was My Copilot: Session 15 gives the party, though a ritual, direct contact with The Raven Queen, who reveals that Luna's father has always been in the afterlife since his passing, and her "Echo Dad" has been a fragment of the Queen herself, as part of the bargain she made with Luna's father to see the world of mortals through his firstborn's eyes.
  • Great Offscreen War: There was a war between Belkinus and another territory eighty years ago that's brought up more than a few times, as Luna's father and the Miharian sisters participated in it.
  • Grey-and-Gray Morality: The party does end up meeting various Necromancers that are genuinely sympathetic, many of which Nathaniel and Renee at least attempt to recruit to their organization instead of letting them run wild or imprisoning them.
  • The Gunslinger: Enoch's weapon of choice is a gun, which he has to create special bullets for.
  • Hair-Trigger Avalanche: While crossing the mountains to access the tomb of Luna's father, the party get into a fight with worgs, and end up causing one of these during the scuffle.
  • Handicapped Badass: Juliana was able to design her wheelchair to be equipped with weapons like a makeshift rapid-fire crossbow.
  • Heroic Lineage: Luna's father fought in a war 80 years ago, and one of her primary motivations is wanting revenge on necromancers for desecrating his grave.
  • Heroic Sacrifice: Thorne/Abigail collapses part of the ceiling in order to injury the Big Bad, at the cost of being crushed into oblivion.
  • Highly-Conspicuous Uniform: When the party has almost reached Cloveway, Nathaniel admits to Invoking this trope with his Impossibly Tacky Clothes; now that he's gained a reputation for wearing them and his enemies are preparing to confront a man in a yellow coat and hat, he simply takes the outfit off and hides it behind a rock in order to infiltrate the town.
  • Hoist by His Own Petard:
    • Session 15 reveals that the Mute Crystals Chandrelle gave to the party to capture Kara with were created using Kara's own research. However, this example is ultimately averted considering the party just talked her down instead.
    • In the Grand Finale, Renee tries to trap Chandrelle herself with those same Mute Crystals; though her initial attempt is blocked by Bloodstride, another toss does end up completely disabling her for a while.
    • Also in the Grand Finale, Renee tried to collapse a stone pillar in order to have its fragments rain down on Chandrelle and her soldiers. When she didn't succeed to completely break the pillar, Chandrelle decided to destroy the pillar herself and use the stone fragments on Renee.
  • Honor Before Reason: At the start of the campaign, Enoch has absolutely no empathy for the necromancers he fights against, to the point that Nathaniel leafing through a necromancy tome to prepare for what they're up against is considered heretical. However, after character development and dealing with his personal demons, he grows out of this mindset and shows more lenience (though he's still a stickler for liars).
  • Impaled with Extreme Prejudice:
    • Enoch stabbed Alter by driving his saber through his skull.
    • Luna killed off Bloodstride by piercing his body with her sword.
  • Impossibly Tacky Clothes: Nathaniel quickly gets nicknamed "Banana Wizard" because his regular outfit includes a conspicuous yellow overcoat and hat. When he's finally made aware of this fact, Nathaniel not only refuses to ditch the outfit, he also thinks he's more comparable to a lemon.
  • I Need a Freaking Drink: In the past, some nobles were so stressed out and tired that they requested Craighton to make them some tea in preparation for a speech. This event led to Craighton discovering his love for tea making.
  • In-Joke: Nathaniel Gainsby is radioactive.
  • Internal Reveal:
    • A significant part of Session 6 is Enoch sharing the extent of his Split Personality situation with the rest of the party.
    • The Grand Finale has the Black-Veined Queen try to blackmail the party into letting her continue her plans by claiming that her remaining underlings will use the party's darkest secrets to turn Belkinus against the party if she falls, including two of Nathaniel's that were secret to the rest of the party: his relation to Lancel and the truth behind how he became the Witch-Taker.
  • Ironic Name: Pierce Bloodstride's current name became this when Luna killed him by piercing his body with her sword.
  • It's Not You, It's My Enemies: The reason that Lancel's father is apprehensive of him wanting to prove himself, as well as revealing that they're related at all, is that his position has attracted numerous enemies and he doesn't want the burden of dealing with them to shift to Lancel.
  • Jerk with a Heart of Gold: Bulwark loves to bully and make fun of other people like Blukwit and Dorti. However, he was willing to risk his life protecting the same people that he bullied when they are being arrested by soldiers.
  • Know When to Fold 'Em: After their very first encounter with a branch of the Spine of Death, Enoch has a one-on-one encounter with its head necromancer Bloodstride. Despite his religious fervor, he immediately recognizes how outmatched he is, and only attempts a shot when the foe is warping away.
  • Laser-Guided Karma:
    • Magnus hated necromancers so much, that he is willing to use the Warforges to massacre the necromancer's city of Cloveway outside the borders of Belkinus, even if that would spark a war as a result. In order to pull it off, he tried to trick and manipulate the party into helping him get access to the Warforges. This would ultimately bit him back hard. In the process of his plans, he gets possessed by a Alter, who is a far worse necromancer-hating extremist and far more manipulative monster, and gets his Warforge plan taken over by the mechanical angel. And because he is currently being possessed by Alter, the party is forced to kill him in the process of trying to kill Alter.
    • Alter punishing Enoch by cutting the latter's arm off for just lying as a child is downright cruel. So it is fitting that Luna, who previously called him out for his Disproportionate Retribution, cuts off Alter's own arm off during a boss fight against him before Enoch finishes him off.
    • Kara suffered this as a side effect from syphoning necromancers. The side effect for trying to absorb the magic of other necromancers is her body slowly deteriorating from every syphon, making the user slowly resemble to an undead corpse themselves. By the time the party meets her, one of her arms is nothing but a skeletal arm.
    • Chandrelle also suffers the same side effect from syphoning necromancers as her sister Kara, but WORSE. Without magic to cast an illusion over her body, one can see that Chandrelle's body resembles an undead even moreso than Kara. It is so bad that Chandrelle is clearly dying from the syphoning's side effects, with Luna questioning if Chandrelle is in fact already dead. It goes From Bad to Worse when, after syphoning Bloodstride's undead corpse, Chandrelle's powers finally goes out of control and she transforms into an undead monster herself.
    • Bloodstride sufferes two of them.
      • He is known for using charisma, deceit, and manipulation to not only recruit and control other necromancers, but also other people into doing what he wants (like with The Protectors with the Warforge factory). He is a darker, more twisted version of who Nathaniel is. So, it is poetic that Nathaniel was the one to ruin Bloodstride's plans in the latter's boss fight by forcibly controlling him using the Dominate spell.
      • He is essentially the Spine of Death's second-in-command. He searched necromancy, syphoning, and True Ressurection. Not only that, he has zero sympathy or remorse for either his undead nor the necromancers he uses. Fittingly, after Bloodstride's death, he ends up resurrected as a Body Horror (a failed True Ressurection subject whose soul is constantly suffering until killed again to have their soul set free) under Chandrelle's control. And, as a bonus, his undead form gets syphoned by Chandrelle during the final boss fight, treated by Chandrelle as a disposible pawn just as Bloodstride treated others as the same thing.
  • Like an Old Married Couple: The relationship between Nathaniel and Renee leans into this at times, such as after the fight that takes up most of Session 12, when they're both arguing over how they'll be alright and the other needs patching up first.
  • Load-Bearing Boss: In the Grand Finale, Chandrelle's One-Winged Angel transformation knocks out most of the room's pillars, and the ceiling nearly collapses on the party at the end of the battle, but they're saved in the nick of time.
  • Lost Pet Grievance: In Session 13, there's a heartbreaking scene where tracking down a Tortle acolyte of The Raven Queen to help Luna leads to the revelation that said acolyte is a Necromancer, trying to protect a child Drow that simply wanted to spend a bit more time with their dying cat before saying goodbye.
  • The Masquerade Will Kill Your Dating Life: Although the nature of their relationship isn't exactly "Dating", Renee has an alcohol-fueled breakdown in Session 4 because she can tell that, despite them otherwise trusting each other completely, her partner Nathaniel is still keeping personal secrets from her.
  • Magitek: Enoch has an interest in finding ways to imbue magic into technology. In Session 4, he finds likeminded people in a village the party passes through, deeming one his apprentice and developing a crush for the other.
  • Masculine–Feminine Gay Couple: Kara is the masculine partner (thanks to her more aggressive and cynical personality) and her wife Jacqueline is the feminine partner (due to how sweet and gentle she is).
  • Maybe Ever After: In the epilogue, Enoch's player intentionally left the outcome of Enoch's relationship with Juliana be ambiguous. But at the very least, their relationship has improved since the reveal of Mirth becoming a necromancer.
  • Meaningful Echo:
    • In Session 12, Enoch spits back Thyrmelius Cog's threat of how one's lies will inevitably catch up to them, as he calls Thyrmelius out for manipulating him and lands the killing blow on the archangel.
    • In the first session, when Chandrelle warned the party that she would dock their pay should they be late in accomplishing their mission, Nathaniel commented on how having your pay docked is a fate worse than death. In the finale, Nathaniel echoed these words after the party killed Chandrelle, the very person who hired them in Session 1 in the first place and caused Nathaniel to make this very remark.
  • Mirror Character: Kara Miharian acts as this for Nathaniel. Both of them are gifted magic users and intelligent individuals who, despite their cynical and jaded personalities, are genuinely nice people. They are both talented in manipulation-themed magic (necromancy and charm magic respectively), which they see use for helping people and thus use them for the betterment of others. And both of them faced distrust and hatred because their respective kind of magic is seen as too dangerous. Ironically, Kara is one of the people who saw Nathaniel's charm magic as something dangerous, despite experiencing discrimination for the same reason.
  • Missing Mom: Session 8 reveals that Luna's mom is Sina Steelward, member of Chester City's Royal Guard, who left Luna and their hometown after the passing of Luna's father.
  • Morality Pet: Mirth became this for Enoch. Mirth is a sweet boy who had to rely in necromancy in order to finally improve in his mechanical inventions and potion-making. Enoch grew attached to Mirth, and the former felt conflicted when he learnt about Mirth's reliance on necromancy. When Enoch failed to convince Mirth to abandon necromancy and accidentally pushed the boy away, it started Enoch's change in perspective on necromancers.
  • My God, What Have I Done?: Enoch was horrified when he realized that the friend Blukwit and Dorti are describing is the same necromancer that he executed at the beginning of the campaign.
  • My Greatest Failure: In Session 14, Nathaniel admits that his was turning in his father, who took care of him despite secretly being a necromancer; the guilt from seeing him vilified afterwards is why he prefers to recruit the criminals the party fights to his organization rather than persecute them for their crimes. However, the Grand Finale indicates that the reason for this regret might not be as clear as they had stated...
  • My Master, Right or Wrong: Played with. Chandrelle's personal guards are willing to fight for their Viscount, even with the knowledge that their leader is a necromancer and that she is responsible for many crimes like the attack on Belkinus Proper. However, they do abandon her when Chandrelle transforms into a dragon and runs rampant inside the building because they were fleeing for their lives.
  • Necromancer: The focal antagonist of the campaign is the Spine of Death, a huge cult of necromancers ravaging the area.
  • Not in This for Your Revolution: Chandrelle was more than aware that Bloodstride had no interest with neither her pursuit for True Resurrection or the necromancer's desire to freely use necromancy. The only thing Bloodstride cared about was being seen as the only hope for necromancers in Belkinus. Unfortunately for Bloodstride, Chandrelle made sure to keep him under her control until the end.
  • Not-So-Well-Intentioned Extremist: Bloodstride may claim to be doing terrible things for the sake of the discriminated necromancers of Belkinus, but the party can easily tell how much of a selfish bastard Bloodstride truly is. Even the Big Bad knew that all Bloodstride cared about was being seen as some sort of savior for necromancers to turn to, and so the Black-Veined Queen kept Bloodstride in a tight lease.
  • Once an Episode: Starting from Session 2, Davvy has provided a "Banana Fact" during every mid-session break.
  • One of Us: Davvy is a massive fan of TV Tropes, and was overjoyed to have discovered the campaign had one, and checks this page semi-frequently. So remember your posture, Davvy.
  • One-Winged Angel: In the Grand Finale, Chandrelle absorbs a Came Back Wrong Bloodstride's power during the final battle to transform into a zombie dragon.
  • Playing Both Sides:
    • Yet another revelation from Session 12 is that Bloodstride has been manipulating the Protectors, the band of extortionists that includes Castilla and Magnus (who hates Necromancers), in order to cause more death that benefits the Black Spine.
    • In the Grand Finale, Chandrelle Miharian, the leader of Belkinus Proper's defense force that's campaigning against necromancers, is revealed to be the true Black-Veined Queen herself, having incited negative opinions on necromancy to convince people to track down her sister and the power Chandrelle wants to take from her.
  • Playing Drunk: In session 3, Yaroshien played a drunk Enoch, despite not being drunk himself.
  • Plot-Triggering Death: Everything from the creation of the Spine of Death to Belkinus' ban against necromancy all stem from the death of Abbigail Miharian, who died in the war as a result of Belkinus refusing to use necromancy in their war because the officials saw it as too dangerous.
  • Pocket Dimension: Once the party reaches Cloveway, they learn from Luc that the Black Spine isn't actually stationed there, as they were informed; while it is indeed occupied by Necromancers (including Kara Miharian herself), the Spine (primarily Bloodstride) prefers to avoid confrontation and quickly warp across Belkinus by creating portals connected to one of these.
  • Pop-Cultural Osmosis Failure: Played for laughs. When the group comes across someone in raven-like clothing, Davvy asks if it's Vax'ildan. JoCat replies he doesn't know, since "I don't watch The Adventure Zone". Cami replies that she is "personally offended" by Jo's remark.
  • Pyrrhic Victory: During the Grand Finale, while the Black-Veined Queen was blackmailing the party, Nathaniel revealed that he had already sent someone to spread information incriminating Chandrelle's involvement with the necromancers. So, even if the party were to be killed, news on the Viscount will still reach the masses and enough people will doubt her in order to prevent her from getting what she wants.
  • Recruiting the Criminal:
    • Although Renee and Nathaniel are tasked with dealing with criminals, they show leniency to a pair of minor goons who had only joined the Spine of Death out of necessity, even offering them a chance to join their syndication...under some strict conditions, such as never associating with necromancers again, of course.
    • In the aftermath of Session 12, Nathaniel and Renee manage to convince some members of the Protectors they defeated to join their syndication as well, including Ketrig and Rottak.
  • Red Baron:
    • In the backstory, Nathaniel already gained the title of "The Witch-taker" for hunting down various magical criminals, starting with his adoptive father.
    • Kara Miharian is known as the Black-Veined Queen, the leader and founder of the necromantic cult known as the Spine of Death. However, it turns out that Kara isn't actually the Black-Veined Queen, much less directly connected to the Spine of Death. The true Black-Veined Queen was actually the Viscount, Chandrelle.
  • Red Right Hand: The Black-Veined Queen is named such because all necromancers in the setting gain visible black veins upon first using their powers, progressing from their arms to the rest of their body the more they dabble in dark arts.
  • The Reveal:
    • Thorne's true identity is a deceased Abbigail Miharian who now seemed to be an undead.
    • The Grand Finale reveals the true identity of the Black-Veined Queen: Chandrelle Miharian, who wants to take Kara's power and continue the research into True Resurrection that Kara considered a failure.
  • Revenge Before Reason: Magnus allowed himself to be used by Bloodstride when the latter manipulated the former into stealing the abandoned Warforges from Chester City to be used into attacking the city of Cloveway. Magnus didn't care why Bloodstride is helping, as he planned to kill the necromancer anyways. But Luna made it clear to Magnus that the Bloodstride is helping Magnus because the necromancer wants Cloveway to be attacked in order to make necromancers more desperate and angry enough to support the Spine of Death.
  • Right for the Wrong Reasons: Enoch's player initially thought that Magnus was a Protector because he misremembered Magnus telling Enoch that fact. While he was corrected by the DM and the players, Enoch's player still turned out to be right in the end about Magnus being part of the Protectors.
  • Running Theme: A major one from the first episode is the idea of the realities of being an adventurer in times of crisis; given their very specific time limit, they will only ever be able to do so much, and adventurers in Belkinus are stereotyped as being glory-seekers given special treatment by the nobles who don't care about the little guy at all.
  • Sealed Inside a Person-Shaped Can: It was revealed that Alter is in fact an extremist archangel named Thyrmelius Cog who was sealed inside Enoch's body by Enoch's mother in an attempt to prevent the twisted archangel from causing mayhem for his cruel crusade against 'evil'.
  • Secret-Keeper:
    • The party were willing to hide Mirth's identity as a necromancer from his hometown if the latter would abandon necromancy. However, when Mirth couldn't stop doing necromancy and ran away with the Spine of Death, Enoch is forced to explain the whole truth to Juliana and Tapwater.
    • When the party learned about Nathaniel's crimes in the past from the Big Bad, the party decided to hide his crimes from the guards who arrived after the mastermind's death. Although, Nathaniel's crimes were still going to be exposed to the public in the end.
  • Secretly Dying: Nathaniel exposes Chandrelle of secretly dying as a result of her siphoning the necromancers and even an undead dragon. Her limited time only serve to drive Chandrelle into going in further with her pursuit for True Resurrection.
  • Secret Test of Character: Grikyak was challenged by a business-savvy merchant into gambling his few remaining coins into seeing whether or not the business world is for him. The goblin merchant lost, but he refuses to give up despite losing all the money he had. The business-savvy merchant then applauded Grikyak for this, as an important trait for being a merchant is to never give up. The merchant then rewarded Grikyak by teaching the goblin on being a merchant and even gave him some wares to start up his business.
  • Seeks Another's Resurrection: Hinted at when revealing Kara's Start of Darkness, but finally confirmed in Session 14 that Kara became a recluse studying Necromancy because she couldn't bring Abigail back with True Resurrection. In the Grand Finale, Chandrelle states that she became the Black-Veined Queen for the exact same reason.
  • Self-Made Orphan: Session 14 starts with this revelation as Nathaniel shares their backstory with the others. He was once an orphan that was taken in by a thief-taker that he later learned was a Necromancer, and chose to report him out of fear that he was adopted for ulterior motives. When other people started praising him as a hero and vilifying his adoptive father despite him never actually harming another, Nathaniel started to regret his action, and strove to actually deserve his new title of "Witch-Taker". However, the events of the Grand Finale add an extra twist to this, as Chandrelle tries to blackmail Nathaniel by claiming he manipulated his adoptive father into practicing Necromancy, and then reported him for self-gain rather than out of fear; a claim that Nathaniel later admits is somewhat accurate, due to frustration with his father failing to convict a murderer.
  • Sexy Discretion Shot: Session 3 ends with Luna and her partner Scorpio about to have an intimate moment in her room at the inn.
  • Sheathe Your Sword: In the epic climax of Session 14, despite the overwhelming power presented by Kara Miharian, the majority of the party are willing to endure the pain without fighting back in order to try and convince them that they're genuinely seeking a peaceful resolution. The party succeeds.
  • Ship Tease:
    • Enoch developed a massive crush on Juliana, a strongheaded and tough wheelchair-bound mechanic. By the epilogue, their relationship is intentionally left ambiguous by Enoch's player.
    • Renee and the dancer Rottak had some intimate moments with each other.
  • Shout-Out:
  • Signature Headgear: Bloodstride is always seen wearing the skull of an infant Tarrasque as headgear.
  • Skeletal Appendage:
    • Kara's left arm is nothing but bone, as the price for a Blood Siphon spell that didn't go as planned.
    • Chandrelle has a similar skeletal right arm, though they usually use Illusion magic to cover it up.
  • Spit Take: Kara makes one early in Session 15, when the party tells her about Pierce Bloodstride, as she knew him by a different, and completely unimpressive, name.
  • Start of Darkness: During the journey, the party gains occasional clues (stories from elves, a diary page in a discarded necromancy tome, etc.) that Kara Miharian parted ways with Chandrelle and devoted herself to dark magic after their other sister, Abigail, was killed in the war eighty years ago.
  • The Stoic: Nathaniel has a habit of intentionally showing no outward emotion. At one point, he convinces himself that he doesn't actually care about an ally's fate when their life is on the line, though it's in order to concentrate on the act that will save them.
  • Story Arc: As deemed by Davvy himself in the preamble of Session 14, the campaign thus far can be separated into at least three "Arcs"; the initial brief adventuring that help establish the main cast's backstories and connections to the world, the events in Chester City that end with fighting Thyrmelius Cog, and the inevitable confrontation with Necromancers at Cloveway that quickly turns into helping Kara redeem her name. Arguably, the third arc ends with the reveal of Thorne's true identity, and a fourth and final "Arc" starts when the party accesses the Spine of Death's real headquarters in Verteheim, which lasts until the final session's conclusion.
  • Team Pet: During the events in Chester City, Enoch uses his inventing talents to create a mechanical Corgi he names Kuro, who can assist with supersonic barks and dispensing healing pills. The rest of the party immediately takes a shine to Kuro when they regroup.
  • Tempting Fate: During the last session, Luna's player joked that the final boss would be something straight out of Dark Souls. Luna's player is understandably freaking out when the final boss does become something like a boss from Dark Souls: an undead dragon with multiple parts that need to be destroyed to completely kill it.
  • Timed Mission: The party is charged with finding Kara Miharian and bringing her back to Belkinus in fourteen days, meaning that they are always on the clock.
  • Then Let Me Be Evil: Luc Badeaux argues this as the reason why so many Necromancers, including recurring antagonist Bloodstride, join the Spine of Death, which is basically a terrorist organization - their whole life, everyone around them treated something that makes them special as a sign of evil, and they had to hide their abilities or be labeled villains. A lot of them decided to stop trying to prove otherwise.
  • Uncertain Doom:
    • Luc Badeaux secretly remained in Verteheim in order to destroy the building, saying that the future for necromancers could not be in a place like this. With the destruction of Verteheim, the portals to escape the place are cut off, stranding Luc inside. While it is never confirmed whether Luc died or not, according to Word of God, that would have been the last time the party would ever see of Luc.
    • At the epilogue, after leaving the Witchtakers in Renee's hands and going on his own journey, Nathaniel was able to open a portal back into Verteheim. However, Nathaniel was unaware that the place was destroyed by Luc. After Nathaniel enters the portal, nobody knew what became of him.
  • Uplifted Animal: Enoch's homunculus/robotic corgi companion, Kuro. Despite Kuro being nothing more than a small companion that Enoch directly controls, Kuro has had moments of some minor sentience and is capable of talking. This apparently stems from Enoch's belief/perception that Kuro is just as much a dog as any other, which may lead to his subconscious commanding Kuro to act as such. In Episode 15 Kara Miharian noted that Kuro's actions/desires should not be possible.
  • Was It All a Lie?: Mirth questioned this when he found out that Bloodstride had been using him and the other necromancers for his own selfish reasons. The party assured Mirth that the other necromancers clearly believed in a world where necromancers could have a place in the world, and it was just a shame that Bloodstride used that for his own purposes.
  • "Well Done, Son" Guy: Lancel, met in Session 4, is a dragonborn that's left the safety of Belkinus Proper in order to help people in a time of need, with the ulterior motive of impressing his father and showing that he's capable of surviving on his own. This is problematic, as his father is Nathaniel.
  • Well-Intentioned Extremist:
    • Enoch is a vigilante who hunts down necromancers because necromancy is outlawed by Belkinus and the existence of the Spine of Death, a terrorist necromancy group. However, when his new friend Mirth cannot abandon necromancy because the boy found purpose and use from it, Enoch started to feel conflicted. He finally changed his aggressive stance against necromancers when he learned that his deceased mother had been helping and protecting discriminated necromancers because she saw it as the right thing to do.
    • Nathaniel has claimed that "the ends justify the means" as an explanation for some of the shadier activities the Witchtakers have done, such as how frequently they engage in Recruiting the Criminal without disclosing it to the public. In the Grand Finale, Chandrelle has a similar mindset, claiming that everything she's done was for the sake of achieving a True Resurrection, which helps Nathaniel realize that he can never be sure what "the ends" will be until they happen and that the Witchtakers need to be more focused on "the means", which is why he makes Renee his successor.
    • Magnus wanted to use the Warforges to attack the city of Cloveway in order to kill countless necromancers because he lost a lot of love ones because of a necromancer. He made it clear to the party that he didn't care if his revenge would start a war and brand him as a warmonger.
    • Kara Miharian not only continued necromancy despite Belkinus outlawing necromancy, but she also siphoned (and consequently killed) many necromancers in order to gain enough power to use True Resurrection in order to bring back her deceased sister Abbigail. After countless failures, Kara ultimately gave up once she became convinced that True Resurrection is impossible. However, her other sister Chandrelle ended up continuing the pursuit of True Resurrection, at the cost of siphoning more necromancers and creating the terrorist necromancer group Spine of Death in order to have a supply of necromancers to siphon.
  • Wham Episode: Session 11 ends on quite a Cliffhanger: Magnus, an acquaintance Enoch made while at the Church of Erathis, who had accompanied the party into a Warforged factory that necromancers have taken control of, reveals he's a Protector that plans to use the Warforged to wage war against the Spine of Death no matter the inevitable high cost of life. Just as the party have cornered him and are trying to convince him there's another way, Enoch's "Alter Enoch" leaps out of his body and possesses Magnus, declaring there's only one way, and sets everything off.
  • Wham Shot: The Reveal of Thorne's identity being an undead Abbigail Miharian.
  • What Happened to the Mouse?: While the main plot is wrapped up in the final episode, there are multiple elements that are left "open to interpretation"; most notably, Kara Miharian parts ways with the party in the penultimate episode and their ultimate fate is left unknown despite their previously major role in the story.
  • What Is This Thing You Call "Love"?: In Session 4, Enoch has what Yaroshien calls an existential crisis after hitting it off with the inventive firbolg mayor of a small town and realizing he's developing a crush on her.
  • Where Are They Now: At the end of the Grand Finale, JoCat states a few lines about how each character was rewarded for their duty, followed by their respective players narrating how they spent the rest of their lives.
  • Why Did It Have to Be Snakes?: Renee has a deep fear for undead monsters known as Body Horrors as a result of witnessing her father accidentally bringing one up while Renee was a child.
  • Would Hurt a Child:
    • The group's first session ends with the party fighting a group of necromancers that had captured a young elf girl to use as a sacrifice, with the second session focusing on returning her home.
    • It was revealed that Alter cut off Enoch's arm for lying, even though the latter was a child at the time.
  • Wrecked Weapon:
    • One of the trade-offs for how strong Enoch's firearms can be. They can end up breaking if Enoch rolls a Natural 1 on an attack with it. He would then need to make a roll to repair it.
    • One of the items that Grikyak was selling and then later gave to the party as thanks for their donations to him was a dead branch. It turned out that it used to be a powerful branch wand, but a necromancer's Blight spell drained out all of its life. Now, it is pretty much useless until a wizard can bring it back to life.
    • In Session 12, when Luna severed off one of Alter's hands, the sword (along with the arm) that the latter was carrying ended up disintegrating into a pile of molten goo.
    • In the Grand Finale, Luna ends up breaking Absolution as she deals the killing blow to Chandrelle, keeping the hilt to later use as the symbol of a guild she founds.
  • You Are Better Than You Think You Are: During the boss fight against Kara Miharian, Renee said this towards the boss while trying to convince her that they aren't here to kill her or her town.
  • You Can't Fight Fate: Enoch is a firm believer in this, especially when it comes to the inevitable costs of lying.
  • You Have Outlived Your Usefulness: In the Grand Finale, after the Came Back Wrong Bloodstride she summoned for protection falls in battle, Chandrelle insults how much he schemed when he lived before siphoning his remaining power to go One-Winged Angel.
