1. Twin Peaks Residents

  • Loser Son of Loser Dad: The Secret History of Twin Peaks states that the town of Twin Peaks had viewed the Jenningses as losers and troublemakers for a long time, and that Hank was faced with plenty of mistrust already in his youth due to this. Notably, Hank's grandfather, Einer, was "amongst the leading candidates for town drunk" and his father, Emil, had already in his youth complied quite a rap sheet of various petty crimes and would eventually end up dying from passing out drunk in his bathtub and drowning.

2. Ultimate Spider-Woman

  • Loser Son of Loser Dad: Mary Jane gets a fair amount of flack from Ben Reilly's family for being the daughter of Phillip Watson. The Reillys themselves, including Ben's cousin Kitty, get this when Jack O'Lantern is exposed as Steven Mark Levins and the Daily Globe exposes the connection, exposing Kitty as a mutant to the public at large.

4. Fan Works

My Little Pony: Friendship Is Magic

  • Codex Equus: There are countless examples in the Codexverse who later become villains, whether through their own choices, the actions of those around them, or other external circumstances beyond their control.
    • Prince Dissonant Tune himself is another example that ultimately became a positive one. As a result of being constantly judged and mistreated by Ponyland at large for being one of War Rock's children, he became a self-destructive villain with an It's All About Me mindset similar to his father's... and was utterly miserable for it. But after surviving a drug overdose and meeting Luminiferous, Dissonant would end up learning about the story of Moon Ray Vaughof, inspiring him to become a divine punisher of the wicked. It leads to him Ascending to godhood as the Alicorn god of Music, Vice, Corruption, and Revelry.

5. Jibi Eopseo

  • Loser Son of Loser Mom: Growing up, Haejoon was ostracized and bullied for being the son of a woman who was believed to be crazy due to her extreme superstitiousness. Eunyung later hits him where it hurts when he implies that Haejoon must be just as crazy as his mother was.

9. JoJo New Universe: Stars Are Eternal

10. Warrior Cats: The First Battle

11. CONSEQUENCES (Miraculous Ladybug)

  • Loser Son of Loser Dad: Once Gabriel is revealed as Hawk Moth, Adrien's reputation takes a severe hit as well. During his final conversation with his father, he informs him that he's renouncing the Agreste name.

12. Ultra Series O 50

  • Loser Son of Loser Dad: Previously, Fuma lives under the notoriety of his father's failed legacy to climb to the top of O-50's mountain peak. By the time he becomes an Ultraman, he resort to embrace the title of "Champion of the Wind".

13. J to L

14. Warrior Cats: The Darkest Hour

15. Sky High (2005)

  • Loser Son of Loser Dad: Despite being in Hero class, he's ostracized at school due to everyone being worried he'll turn out like his father. He seems to enjoy solitude, though.

16. Warrior Cats

  • Tawnypelt. She's the daughter of the Big Bad, her brother is in another Clan, she loses one of her kits, her mate disagrees with her a lot (especially when it comes to receiving help from ThunderClan), and her Clan ended up following Sol forcing her to leave temporarily. You can see all that has affected her, though her pride as a ShadowClan cat has made it difficult to see.

17. Child by Rape

If the child in question is a Heroic Bastard, then they may fear or angst about the possibility of being tainted by their parents' crimes. Especially if the victim mistreats or refuses to love their child on the basis that That Thing Is Not My Child!. Some such children go on to avenge themselves and their victimized parent upon the perpetrator. Even if the child is able to make peace with their origin, parental mistreatment or abuse might result in the child resenting their parents — or the situation can be flipped: even when the child is loved and assured by their parent, the child might angst about their conception. In other cases, the parent loves and accepts their child and while the child may have difficulty coming to terms with this trope, they are eventually able to do so. If the child's conception is well-known, then society at large might ostracize the victimized parent, their child, or both for being "tainted". If the child is the product not only of rape, but incest, then the child is likely to be depicted as doubly "damaged". See Inbred and Evil.

18. Alchemist Code Story Characters

19. Codex Equus Kerajaan Pantheon

  • Loser Son of Loser Dad: Deconstructed. Like his older half-sister, Winter Opera, he was wrongly judged and mistreated by those quick to accuse him of crimes his birth father, War Rock, committed in life, despite being completely innocent. His striking resemblance to War Rock and the fact that he's a musical prodigy like his father added fuel to the fire. At first, he tried to stay good in the face of undeserved criticism, but later he snapped and followed in War Rock's hoofsteps anyway, convinced that if his parentage made him evil, he might as well be evil. Deep down, he actually felt miserable, and his self-destructive hedonism got him hospitalized following a near-fatal overdose. He went through an existential crisis afterwards, but meeting Luminiferous made him aware of better alternative paths he can take. During his soul-searching, he came across Moon Ray Vaughoof's memorial statue and learned of the latter's struggles with addiction in life. He found Moon Ray to be so inspiring that he became a constructive villain, resolving to test heroes and damn the wicked so everyone can triumph like Moon Ray in the face of vice and corruption. His experiences with this trope made him hate moral hypocrisy and sympathetic towards those who went through similar situations, but he also suffered from a lot of issues that stem from it, such as low self-esteem and distrust towards authority figures.

20. Parental Issues

21. JoJo New Universe: Golden Wind

  • Loser Son of Loser Dad: Zigzagged; many people automatically distrust him for being DIO's son, and even the Speedwagon Foundation is wary of him, which he completely understands. However, Kakyoin assures that he is a completely different person from DIO despite having inherited some of his father's traits, and while the Speedwagon Foundation may distrust him as a group, there are some individuals like Kakyoin himself who don't. Jotaro Kujo also shared the same fears about him, but according to Polnareff, he apparently changed his mind later on at some point.

22. Monster High Special Introduced

  • Loser Son of Loser Dad: Kala's Dark Secret is that the Kraken, the sea monster all sea monsters fear, is her father. Not only has she been forced to keep her parentage a secret for fear of this trope taking effect, but as the Kraken is confined to his crevasse, he has never seen his daughter dance.

23. Blame Tropes

24-25. Earth's Children - Zelandonii

  • Loser Son of Loser Dad: He’s generally treated this way by most of the cave.
  • Loser Son of Loser Dad: She’s treated this way by many people in the cave, along with the rest of her siblings. They're dismissed as a lost cause and looked upon disdain for being constantly dirty and begging for food, and their lazy, freeloading parents are some of the lowest-ranking and least-popular members of the Ninth Cave. However, Ayla points out that it's hardly their fault that they have such awful parents and that Lanoga is doing her best to look after her younger brothers and sisters. Ayla is able to shame some of the neighbours into helping Lanoga care for her family by informing them that in the Clan no child would be allowed to starve, essentially implying they're worse than the "flatheads" they dismiss as mere animals.

Resident Evil: The Marhawa Desire

  • Loser Son of Loser Dad: It really begs the question just what kind of family setting the brats of Marhawa were raised in to have produced such a universally reviled upper crust that warranted their own zombie outbreak out of blind revenge to slaughter them all. At the start of things, even Ricky was amazed with how every society produces its trash & scum in the beginning when he was dragged aside by the Jerk Jock sect of the sprawl.

1. Arthurian Legend

John the Revelator was totally Merlin the Wizard.

  • How does this gel with Merlin being Satan's son?
  • There's a good explanation for Merlin the Druid being the advisor of Arthur the Christian King: the incomplete Romanization of Britain. In the Lloegyr historical region (whose name resembles that of Logres, Arthur's proper kingdom from which he ruled the whole Britain), Britons had abandoned their old customs and adopted the Roman ones, while outside it the Britons kept their old customs, probably including the religion. After the Roman retreat, an High King coming from the Celtic Britons would find difficult at best to be obeyed by the Romanized Britons, and at the same time there was little way for someone of Roman culture to make himself obeyed by the Celtic Britons... Unless the Romanized ruler has a well-respected Celtic advisor, like Merlin. And in fact, the only kings of sub-Roman Britain with a decent measure of success were Uther Pendragon (Roman son of a Roman emperor) and his son Arthur, who had Merlin as advisor. The kings before Uther had: abandoned Britain to fight a war (Constantine II, Roman emperor as Constantine III); been manipulated by their advisers before being poisoned (Constans, eldest son of Constantine II and aspiring Roman emperor); been deposed by their own son (Vortigern, who was deposed by his son Vortimer after a last fuck-up with the revolt of the Saxon mercenaries); been poisoned by their own family (Vortimer, killed by his Saxon stepmother on Vortigern's behalf); been burned alive in their fortress (Vortigern again, courtesy of Constans little brothers Aurelianus Ambrosius and Uther); been poisoned by political opponents (Aurelianus Ambrosius, assassinated by loyalists of Vortigern's other sons while Uther defeated said sons and collected Merlin as advisor). And after Merlin disappeared, we had: Arthur killed in battle by his own son, who rebelled as soon as he looked the other way to go at war in Gaul (either against Lancelot or the Eastern Roman Empire demanding tribute); Constantine III, of both Celtic and Romanized descent, ruled decently for a while, but either abdicated and became a monk or received divine punishment after killing Mordred's sons in two churches; Aurelius Conanus (Roman) was a murderer, usurper and adulter, and got killed for it; Vortiporius was a Loser Son of Loser Dad who committed unspecified depravities and corrupted his own daughter, and only managed to stay king because he had kicked the Saxons out of the island; the depraved king Malgo, who failed to make his son King of the Britons; and Keredic, who was such an unmitigated disaster that the Britons (that by this time appears to have culturally unified) allies themselves with the returning Anglo-Saxons and the Vandals (called from Spain) to get rid of him.

2.Future Diary: Diary Holders

  • Loser Son of Loser Dad: Only Kurou is far more pathetic and cowardly than Yuki will ever be because while Yuki is a wimp, he's willing to do anything for Yuno and his family, while his own father abandons him to die with Yuno in a building that's breaking down and kills his wife just to avoid taking responsibility for his actions.

3. Star Trek Deep Space Nine S 03 E 14 Heart Of Stone

  • Loser Son of Loser Dad: Nog is scared that he'll become this trope, knowing that Rom's life hasn't turned out so great.

4. Birds of a Feather S5E13: The Beautiful Game

  • Loser Son of Loser Dad: Darryl tells Tracey he always pushed himself so he wouldn't turn out like his dad, Les.

5-6. Astro City Heroes

7. I'm the Evil Lord of an Intergalactic Empire!

8. My Greatest Second Chance

  • One episode of Motive Deconstructions this: An abusive mother learns that her son's girlfriend is pregnant, and latches onto the notion that her grandchild could be this for her. However, the girlfriend refuses, calling out her selfishness: rather than treating her son right, she'd rather start over with a new kid. This leads to the mother becoming the Victim of the Week, murdered by the girlfriend in order to protect her child's adoptive family.

9. The Simpsons - Homer Simpson

  • Loser Son of Loser Dad: As Bart points out, Homer is on both ends of this trope, being the son of the loser Abe, and having a loser son in Bart.

10. Saints Row: The Third

  • The closing ceremony for Genkibowl VII, where the Boss is giving their speech clad in the Sad Panda suit from Sad Panda Skyblazing and their voice digitally scrambled:
Tammy: You know - over the years, you've had your doubters. Some have said you were just riding on the coattails of more accomplished people. Is this vindication for you?
Boss: Absolutely. Not just for me but for all the kids out there watching at home thinking that they'll never make something of themselves. Yeah, I just wanna tell those kids - no matter what, work hard and anything is possible.
Tammy: What a great message to end on! Well Zach, I —
Boss: Because I spent years honing my craft. Murdering, robbing, assaulting, more murdering, light treason, murdering again - all so that when I got my shot - I would be ready.
Tammy: That's, uh, enlightening, but —
Boss: You gotta follow your dreams, kids. Because if you don't, you know what happens? You're gonna become your parents. How fucking depressing would that be? Think about it.

11. Took a Level in Jerkass

Patty and Selma hate Homer, and who could blame them? (Would you want your baby sister married to him?) But they’ve always been fond, even proud, of Lisa. Here they’re basically saying to Marge: you married a fat loser and so will your precious daughter, ha ha. They want Lisa to marry someone like Homer just to teach Marge a lesson or something, and it’s utterly contrary to everything we know about them.
Dead Homer Society on The Simpsons, "Luca$"

12. Orange Is the New Black - Main Characters

  • Loser Son of Loser Dad: Gender-flipped with her and Aleida. Aleida neglected Daya and her siblings growing up. And Daya aspired to become something better than her poverty-stricken life and drug-selling mother. Only to end up in prison herself for the exact same crimes.

13. I Coulda Been a Contender!

  • Rom from Star Trek: Deep Space Nine is an absolute genius when it comes to engineering and could have very easily thrived had he pursued a career in that field, but instead chose to follow Ferengi cultural expectations and become a businessman (for which he has zero talent). This is what motivates his son Nog to join Starfleet, because he knows that he isn't cut out to be a businessman either and doesn't want to make the same mistake. Ultimately subverted for Rom as well, as Nog's example makes him realize he can strive for better too and he steps away from business to start a career in engineering. Just before the series finale he's appointed to be the new Grand Nagus of the Ferengi Alliance, so that he can oversee the transition of Ferengi society into a democracy.

14. The Good Place - The Neighborhood

  • Loser Son of Loser Dad: As it turns out, Jason's father is a dim-witted criminal, and in a more horrifying twist, Jason is the more intelligent of the two.

15. Family Guy - The Griffin Family

  • Loser Son of Loser Dad: Chris is the geeky, unpopular son of his alcoholic, also-obese-and-slow-witted father Peter.

15. Anime & Manga

  • No Game No Life:
    • At the end of the Great War, Tet, the newly ascended God of Play, gives one to the Exceeds who warred against each other and left their world in ruins in a war that no one won.
Tet: You creatures who have fought with violence, blood and death, who built a tower of corpses that rises to the sky, and who still call yourselves wise, tell me this- what makes you different from wild animals?
    • Sora gives one to Steph when she gets angry with him over noticing that her opponent was cheating but not calling the opponent out on it, resulting in Steph losing all her possessions. The last remark hits hard considering that Steph is the granddaughter of the previous king, who has a reputation for being a fool.
Sora: Let Me Get This Straight... you got totally hustled, lost all your worldly possessions, and somehow that's supposed to be our fault? Hah! Whatever, toots.
      Steph: WHAT WAS THAT?!
Sora: Not only that, when you get called on it, you completely flip out and start yapping like a little dog. Pull it together! You're an emotional time bomb; too unstable to think logically and too scared to take any risks. Let me ask you- does crazy run in your family, or are you just a natural loser?
Steph: You take that back... right... now. Say what you want about me, but I will not tolerate such insults against my grandfather! You take that back right this instant!
Sora: Well, I'm right about that explosive temper; a foolish king and a foolish granddaughter.
Steph: I SAID THAT'S ENOUGH! (slaps Sora, who's protected by the Ten Covenants' prohibition against violence)

16. Spider-Man Trilogy: Main Characters

17. Saints Row: The Third
